Came here for an early birthday lunch with sister and we made it just before the lunch rush on a Monday around noon with. 10 minute wait for 2. The food was tasty and the banchans/side dishes were pretty fresh. The free combo tofu stew for the table was nice. We each ordered our own $23 galbi lunch set that comes with rice and honestly we could've shared one order and have been comfortably full. The galbi was lightly seasoned today and tender with a bit of chewiness. Overall, really great meal and it ended with a free rice drink which I loved whenever the restaurant provided it.
Came here walk-in on a Friday evening at 6:30 and waited for almost 45 mins for a table for 2. Get the galbijim! It's a steal and It's delicious- so much meat it lasted me 3 meals. The wait for the dish was almost 25 mins but all worth it !The complimentary soup and banchan were huge and alright. The servers know what they were doing but one minor thing about my experience was that the waitress served a really really hot dish at her convenience and I had to move it to the center for sharing. Since they're busy they expect you to finish your meal, pay and go.
Came by Han Il Kwan this past weekend for the first time and fell in love with it very quickly. From the generous portions of banchan (with free refills omg...) to the incredible dishes and speedy service, this is truly a well-oiled machine that I would not hesitate to bring guests to if I wanted to impress them with the SF food scene. price: ~$40/person - Galbi: We ordered this pre-cooked, and it comes with leaves of lettuce some ssamjang. It tastes exactly how you hope it tastes -- well grilled, marinated, and high-quality. - Rice Cake and Mandu Soup: The broth absorbs all of the flavor from the rice cakes and mandu and beef and is unlike any other broth I've had before. This is super delicious, and if you prefer to have more mandu than rice cake, there is an option for that on the menu. - Seafood Pancake: We were so impressed by how fluffy this pancake was. Honestly one of the best seafood pancakes I've had in a while. I was so pleasantly surprised to see that we also got a free steamed egg and sikhye. I don't think there's any way to leave this establishment still hungry, even if you only order one main. Would definitely come back!
Whenever I go to SF and am in the Richmond - this is one of my go-tos. It's a small restaurant, but well-spaced. Parking can be easier than other neighborhoods, since it's street parking. Recently went at 12:30 on a Sunday and were sat immediately. It's not always busy, so usually not much of a wait. The service is not always warm and friendly, but they're efficient. This last time we ordered kalbi, kimchi jjigae, and yukgae jjang. Kimchi jjigae was very tangy and almost tomato-esque in flavor - thoroughly enjoyed. The kalbi was thinly cut and deboned, and felt like it was nice quality. The yukgae jjang was nicely spiced and flavored. It's a little pricier depending on what you order, but the quality and flavors are not lacking. The banchan were all fresh and we really enjoyed all of them. It was really nice to get steamed egg as part of the set! Also really appreciated the sikyhe they give at the end of your meal.
The food was amazing and there was a ton of food for the price. The beef and soup were flavorful and the bancheon had a big variety with dishes I rarely see elsewhere. And we got a bowl of rice and dessert for free (not to mention the bancheon). Service was good with decent speed and nice staff, and the inside is very interesting where it's divided into rooms that can be split off. Traditional decor and lots of space. Restroom is clean.
Came here for dinner on a Friday night around 7:30pm and had to wait almost a half hour to be seated. There is a lot of seating, and they even have a private room that was being used for a birthday celebration when we were there. We ordered the galbi and japchae and both were some of the best I've had and good portion sizes. We also got a soft tofu soup and rice drinks for dessert, free of charge. The prices of the meats were on the higher side, but with all the freebies they give, I felt that the value was good. The only bad thing was the tea they served, but the service was great! Food came out very fast.
The reason why I keep coming back to this restaurant is because their food is great. They have a variety of lunch specials and solid choices of noodles, rice, soup, etc. My fav dishes are the boneless short rib & octopus stir-fry. I also like how you can get a complimentary soup/steamed egg for the table. However, their service is just straight ass. I've been here so many times and there's always this one woman who gives the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Gives the biggest side eye when walking into the restaurant and when she asks me if I'm ready to order and I say "not yet", she walks away and doesn't acknowledge. So rude and don't even know who peeved her off. Run your restaurant right with respect for your paying customers.
I never would have found this restaurant, in a million lifetimes, on my own. A dear friend suggested this restaurant as a place to catch up It's not in a touristy part of town, truly a neighborhood restaurant serving the greater area...not tourists like me. We each ordered Cold noodles which when combined with banchan and steamed egg was more than a satisfying and flavorful dinner. The restaurant itself isn't big but had more guest than I expected at 430pm on a Thursday. The service was fast...serving banchan and hot tea almost immediately. Our mains( the cold noodles) tasted authentic and by every definition very good....part of the reason, I want to review this restaurant is to remember how good the food is here and if I can find it again, you can be sure I'm inside esting
This is the best authentic Korean restaurant in SF! There are tables where you can do actual meat bbq and there are normal tables to enjoy the just entrees. The banchan here is amazing!!! They switch it up and its always so good. They also give you a sweet rice drink at the end which is my favorite. The staff is super nice and the restaurant is very homey. Def try this place if you like real Korean food.
Came to celebrate birthday with a group of 7. Reservations highly recommended. We ordered Set Menu B and chose beef short ribs and pork belly. It was a lot of food for our group. Everything was delicious! One person from our group always orders to-go after work. Home style taste and quick service. This place gets crazy busy so make a reservation if you don't want to wait too long'.
Whenever Im in the city and craving some heartful Korean food, this is the spot to go to. Parking can be hard as it is still in SF but the food tastes so clean and flavorful. The price can be on the little expensive side but it does come with plenty of side dishes and steamed egg. The top dishes Id tried and would recommend are their tteok and mandu guk (rice cake and steamed dumplings soup), japchae (stir fried thick vermicelli), haemul pajeon (seafood pancake). After a night out, this is such a good spot to cure hangovers The service can be improved though. But I think youre definitely paying for the food there than for the service and Im ok with that haha
Tried Han II Kwan for dinner, it was really busy and the wait was around half an hour. They have a good variety of banchan, my favorite was the lotus root, jelly, and radish kimchi. Ordered the steamed egg, kalbi, and ox tail soup. Food came out pretty quick after ordering. -steamed egg: fluffy and yummy, the portion was a lot bigger than I expected for a Side Dish! -kalbi: the meat was flavorful and pieces were thicker cut, I enjoyed pairing this with the bean sprout side dish. I also liked how it was boneless. the beef was a little chewy though. -ox tail soup: the broth tasted very clean, they provide salt for you to add. this also came with green onions, oxtail, and glass noodles. They give you a refreshing sweet rice drink at the end of your meal which was a nice way to end dinner.
VERRYY overdue review. This restaurant is great. It always has a line out the door so please plan accordingly! Street parking only, and this area is rouuuuggghhhhh to find a spot that's long enough to fit your car.. iykyk. Hanil Kwan is my new favorite Korean spot! The lunch specials are killer, and you literally cannot ask for better-tasting food at this price point. It gives me major Sun Nong Dan vibes--even though that's almost 700 miles away in LA. I keep it basic and usually get the Galbi ($24) and the Galbitang ($20). The Galbi is super yummy--it's a sweet, marinated beef with a great crisp to it. It comes out on a sizzling plate with the bone underneath, and the meat is incredibly tender; it pulls apart effortlessly. The Galbitang is just as amazing. It's basically galbi in a rich, comforting soup, loaded with egg drop and clear noodles. The broth is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend! read more
food was good and there was no wait on a sunday afternoon for a table of 6. everything was on point basically except for the service- as soon as we told them we were only ordering three dishes, their demeanor changed entirely lol. that probably plus the fact that we were young/it was our first time here got them extra annoyed, even though we were polite. banchan was all yummy, rice was $2 per extra bowl (3 were included). we chose soft tofu soup over the steamed egg, which we were told was one or the other, per table. we ordered bulgogi, brisket, and a seafood pancake. literally all the dishes were good but we were not checked in on once. we noticed them checking in on other tables, but deliberately skipping ours. we'd have to flag someone down whenever we wanted something, and when we asked for banchan refills they said ok and never got it to us. we just ended up finishing our meal without it. service was rude, inattentive, and overall lacking. would come back again if i didn't care for service! read more
Quality/Quantity - 5 stars for the food. Especially since this is still my wife's favorite Korean Restaurant in SF. This is my wife's favorite SF Korean restaurant, so I am glad that she was able to join me on this trip. Actually, my guest was the one that requested Korean today. LOL. Today, my guest ordered the following: Soft Tofu Soup - Complimentary. Now this has the most flavor of all the dishes. It also came out piping hot, see picture. Seafood Pancake - Overall good, I appreciate the precut slices, thanks. Makes eating and dividing easier. Marinated Chicken - Decent portions, tender, etc. But with minimum flavor. Broiled Fish, Broiled Mackerel - My guest loves fish, but she did not eat too much of this. So more food to bring back to the house for her. Stir-Fried Vermicelli - Good, but you can almost not mess this up. Actually, I make a pretty good Japchae. :) Banchan - 9 options; good variety and with decent to generous portions. Actually, all the dishes came out steaming, piping hot, and fresh. If you do not like spicy food, this is the place for you. Most, if not all, dishes including the banchan are not spicy. Atmosphere - Good size local restaurant. Table or booth seating. Private room in the back available. Hibachi style dining available. 2 clean bathrooms. See picture. Open 5 days a week from 11am to 8pm or 9pm, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Street parking, it was not too bad. I got a space a few blocks away. Service - 3 stars. The owner is typically friendly but did not greet us today?!?! One waitress was extremely more professional than the other. I think the other waitress was in a bad mood?!?! It was not easy asking for stuff, tea refills, water, utensils, more banchan, etc. Price - $120 + tip. Reasonably priced for Korean food, especially because my guest will get another meal out of it from all our leftovers. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since...??? TLDR: Not our favorite Korean experience. Large menu and banchan variety, but we felt there wasn't a super strong flavor in many of the dishes Food: One pro is that there is a huge variety of banchan from kimchi to lotus root (something we usually don't see when we eat Korean). The menu is also large having everything from soups to bbq to noodles/rice. Unfortunately for us nothing really wowed us and had a ton of the flavors we expect for Korean food. I also felt that for $50, the galbi portion was pretty small and thin. Service/Ambiance: There are a good amount of tables with a back room to fit larger parties. Han Il Kwan is consistently great! I really enjoy coming here whenever I'm craving Korean food. I love that they provide nine different types of complimentary banchan and tofu soup, and they're all delicious. I really like the chewy noodles in the spicy cold noodles, and the bulgogi and bibimbap were both good. They also give you a complimentary sweet rice drink at the end. Service was friendly and very fast. You might have to circle around to find parking, but we've always managed to find street parking in the area. read more
Some of the best Korean foods in the bay! There were 7-8 banchans, plus an additional steamed egg that is on the house. Everything was delicious! I was surprised that they didn't ask me about the spice level for the tofu soup but it turned out to be pretty mild spice - which is perfect for me because I can't handle spice that well. Service was good as well! I will definitely come back again! read more
Fast service and generous banchan, but average food. - seolleongtang : lacking in bone broth richness or flavor, the sliced meat in the soup was also very dry and overcooked - galbi : comes boneless, the marinade was not quite on the mark, slightly dry as well and was overpriced - japchae : decent flavor read more

Han II Kwan is located in a quite sleepy neighborhood in the Richmond district but the vibe at the restaurant is anything but sleepy. It's often packed with customers and lines and has a lively atmosphere. Thank goodness we made a reservation! They offer a generous selection of banchan dishes to start and the meat quality is solid. In my opinion, it's one of the better Korean BBQ restaurants in San Francisco. You can elect to cook yourself or have them cook for you. I think it's always more fun to cook ourselves but the decision is yours. Today, we tried the Kalbi, marinated chicken, pork belly, and brisket. We ordered a la carte though there are complete set dinner options available as well. We also ordered the sautéed squid with vegetables which was very delicious with just a little kick. The meat portions were decent size and filling. It comes with a salt and sesame dipping sauce as well as some other condiments including some lettuce wraps. I typically prefer charcoal grill but that is not offered here. Nevertheless, it's still a good Korean restaurant worth checking out. read more
Absolutely loved their beef based soups for lunch, the broth is rich and clear. I got the dumpling soup which was so filling, and soooo much banchan included, plus side of steamed egg!! We had to end up taking the food home because it was so much haha Quick service, I'd come back here and try some more of their soups! read more
I was in the mood for Korean BBQ and Han II Kwan had some good Yelp reviews. I tried the Kalbi for $49. The meat was thinly sliced and I really couldn't taste the marinade. The dish came with a bowl of rice , complimentary soup and many side dishes. The service was speedy. When I arrived there weren't many other guests but by the time I left the restaurant was pretty full. I look forward to trying more Korean restaurants. read more
My friend and I went here for lunch. They have lunch special menu. They give you a lot of side dishes. We ordered spicy pork, ribeye beef, squid and vegetables. They give you an extra dish and today was a soft tofu spicy soup. Service is decent and I think it's a family run business. Ambience is a typical Korean restaurant with grilling stove in the middle of table. I highly recommend for lunch. read more
A spot I've been meaning to try, but I had a chance to go for lunch on a weekday so I was able to try out their lunch specials. Clearly a local spot, and was able to sit down without a wait. A clean and classic Korean style restaurant. FOOD : When you eat in, you get a large spread of excellent banchan. Kimchi is potent and delicious. Each side dish is a great way to start. Gal bi lunch. An easy choice, though for lunch they cook it for you. Good quality meat, with a nice salty and mildly sweet marinade, that's charred decently. Served with rice for an excellent lunch. Spicy pork lunch. Also one of my classic lunch choices. A nice mild spice with a flavorful marinade. No dry pieces as per usual and always good over rice. Definitely an easy lunch go to for me. Naengmyeon. An excellent choice on any day. Noodles aren't too difficult to chew, but it still has that amazing chewiness you look for. Cold, gochujiang based soup which is a bit sour as well which is just so bright and refreshing. Done well here. Galbi tang. A great soup for a cold day. Clean, but deep flavors in the broth. Beef so tender and delicious. Noodles and eggs there to feed your soul. Always a good choice. Overall an excellent place to go for lunch. High value with tons of quality food for lunch. Service always excellent and the steamed egg that comes with this as well is simple and delicious as well. Will definitely be coming back for dinner and actual BBQ. See you there. read more
One of my friends recommended Han Il Kwan to me, and I can definitely see why it's his favorite local, neighborhood Korean spot. It can get busy with long waits with the KBBQ grills, but we just went for the regular food. I was grateful they seated me before my entire party arrived, as my boyfriend was parking the car. I loved the variety and quantity of banchan - 9 dishes! I enjoyed alternating among the seaweed salad, kimchis, bean sprouts, mung bean jelly, and braised lotus root throughout the meal. The mul naengmyeon and kkori-gomtang oxtail soup were more than enough for two people on top of the complimentary steamed egg and banchan. They were all comforting and hit the spot. I will definitely be coming back some time to try the KBBQ! read more
Came for lunch on a Monday so there were a lot of open tables. We ordered from the lunch special, which is available Monday through Friday until 4:00 PM (except holidays). We tried the following: - Gal-bi, marinated beef short ribs ($23 lunch price) - decent portion, comes with a side of rice and liked how there's no bones so it was easy to eat - Tofu Soup with vegetables and beef ($19.50 regular menu) - good size and comes with rice, but didn't taste like your standard tofu soup. There was a lot of vegetables in it which I wasn't used to. Also didn't come with an egg. Highlight was all the banchan they give! There's 9 different side dishes and everything was good. They also give you a choice of soup or steamed egg to share with the table (not per person). They give you hot barley tea and At the end, they also give you a small cup of sweet rice water. Overall, good experience and decent food! Prices are a little high, but that's standard in SF. read more
Absolutely phenomenal experience at Han Il Kwan. It's very busy, and will come with a wait, but it's absolutely worth it. It's best with a big group, as you can get a lot of variety that way. The meats were all absolutely excellent, and the banchan was delicious. We also got the japchae which I loved. The service is also excellent despite them being very busy! Han Il Kwan is easily my favorite restaurant in the entire city, they give you enough food for 2-3 meals when you only order a single entree (for only $25, although with tax and tip of course thats gonna be over $30, but still, $10-$15 per portion is wildly good for SF), they are actually the best ever!!! read more
This is a longstanding neighborhood spot in the Richmond district. I remember their food being good but haven't been in a while so I was glad when a friend suggested this spot for dinner. Since my friend made reservations, our group was seated immediately in one of the back rooms. We shared a ton of food and had plenty of leftovers. Highlights: +Banchan variety: Most Korean restaurants only give you a few items, but we received 9 different kinds. +Dolsot-bibimbap: Solid bibimbap with fluffy rice, egg, meat, and vegetables. I didn't try any of the crispy rice at the bottom, but those who did went back for more. +Galbi: Marinated beef short ribs were tender and the perfect mix of sweet and salty. +Haesanmul-gui: Colorful mix of crisp vegetables and seafood stir-fried together. +Japchae: Noodles were bouncy and chewy with plenty of crisp vegetables and tender beef. Middle of the pack: *Bulgogi: Good seasoning, but the beef was overcooked. *Dak-gui: Chicken was flavorful, but dry. *Gyeran-jjim: Steamed eggs were fluffy, but didn't have a lot of flavor. *Sundubu-jjigae: Tofu was soft and silky, but I thought it was too spicy. Other people enjoyed it though. Lowlights: -Banchan quality: Some of the cucumbers were bitter. -Modeum-jeon: I only tried the shrimp one, and the overcooked shrimp was coated in a bland, soggy egg batter. -Sangsun-gui: The broiled fish was very fishy and bland. It was the least fave of the group as it was barely touched. -The complementary Sikhye (sweet Korean rice drink) was cloyingly sweet. *Verdict: Even though there were some misses, it's still a solid spot for Korean food without smelling like KBBQ after you're done eating. read more
3pm on a sunday afternoon, around 50% of the restaurant was filled, leaving plenty of space and no wait for my party of 5. service great, food great, vibes great. they also give a tofu soup or a steamed egg on the house for you to share with your table. that, in combination with the banchan and your full meal, it's so much food and i couldn't even finish half of my pork belly pork belly korean bbq: 4/5 this came with lettuce for me to make wraps, when it cooled down it got a little chewy tteok mandu guk: 5/5 this was sooo good, the flavor so good and the rice cakes so soft. next time i'll get this sogogi sundubu: 5/5 solid soup definitely would come back when im in the area!! read more

We always have to eat here if we are in the Bay visiting fam & friends. This is hands down the BEST Korean restaurant in SF and we've eaten in lots of Korean restaurants from WA to TX, Fresno, San Jose and Los Angeles. Everything we ordered was delicious. We highly recommend the Galbi, Bulgogi, Mackerel, pot stickers, Ssam etc...They have a complimentary Tofu soup that is excellent along with the Banchan AKA side dishes. read more

Great spot for Korean food & bbq! Came as a party of two and we were on the waitlist for a while on a Sunday evening. You write your name down on the paper waitlist and have to wait in the area for them to call your name. I've seen online that you can make reservations though, so I'd recommend that to avoid a wait! We ordered the boneless beef, spicy marinated pork, seafood pancake, and the oxtail soup. We also got a ton of free banchan and free steamed egg. The banchan was so good! Loved the lotus, cucumbers, and radish especially. The seafood pancake was also so good. The meats were pretty good, and the portions were huge -- we had lots to take home. Service was efficient and friendly, and the staff helped clean up a spill quickly and were super kind about it. read more
Must not be a lot of Korean options in the area, because as a visitor to San Francisco I found this place just ok. The place is very busy and once you enter you are met by a throng of people waiting inside a small waiting area. There is no sign or anyone to explain you have to sign your name on the waiting list (website itself was not friendly to making reservation). We waited quite a bit but understandable for a busy Saturday night. The banchans were a huge portion and variety, which was nice, although some didn't have much flavor. The tofu soup was decent but the cold noodle soup had absolutely no flavor in the broth, nor any traditional mustard sauce or vinegar to at least give it some. Consistently good kbbq. I don't prefer cooking at the table since I cook at home so I often request my food cooked for me, but they do have the option for you to cook it yourself. I came with a large group and we opted for one of their set menus. The menu has a plethora of protein and everyone in our party was happy. Recently went for lunch and was very impressed by their weekday lunch special. Ranging from $19-23 (?) you get a ton of banchan, rice and a free soup. Can't wait to go back. read more
This place gets busy but luckily for a party of three we only waited about 15 min. We ordered the seafood jiggae and japchae and both were spectacular. The soup was boiling hot and so well spiced with plenty of seafood so they definitely did not skimp out there, the japchae was hot and well salted. For the japchae I personally would have put some hot sauce but the flavor its self is wonderful. There was plenty of Banchan served with the meal so you'll definitely go home feeling full. Pretty good experience of you bring lots of friends to try different dishes. They give the most banchan that I've seen in SF, and it all tastes pretty good. We ordered galbi, seafood pancake, tofu stew, and stir fried kimchi. They also provided a free serving of steamed egg which was tasty. Everything tasted fine, you just need to know what to order when you come. I came here before and my experience was much worse than this current one so I'm glad I came again to try other dishes. read more

It depends on how much you order. It was not all you can eat when I went and for a family of 4 we spent $150. I ordered a soup, 2 meats, some side dishes and a sweet soju.
