    Banchan

Came by Han Il Kwan this past weekend for the first time and fell in love with it very quickly. From the generous portions of banchan (with free refills omg...) to the incredible dishes and speedy service, this is truly a well-oiled machine that I would not hesitate to bring guests to if I wanted to impress them with the SF food scene. price: ~$40/person - Galbi: We ordered this pre-cooked, and it comes with leaves of lettuce some ssamjang. It tastes exactly how you hope it tastes -- well grilled, marinated, and high-quality. - Rice Cake and Mandu Soup: The broth absorbs all of the flavor from the rice cakes and mandu and beef and is unlike any other broth I've had before. This is super delicious, and if you prefer to have more mandu than rice cake, there is an option for that on the menu. - Seafood Pancake: We were so impressed by how fluffy this pancake was. Honestly one of the best seafood pancakes I've had in a while. I was so pleasantly surprised to see that we also got a free steamed egg and sikhye. I don't think there's any way to leave this establishment still hungry, even if you only order one main. Would definitely come back!

Whenever I go to SF and am in the Richmond - this is one of my go-tos. It's a small restaurant, but well-spaced. Parking can be easier than other neighborhoods, since it's street parking. Recently went at 12:30 on a Sunday and were sat immediately. It's not always busy, so usually not much of a wait. The service is not always warm and friendly, but they're efficient. This last time we ordered kalbi, kimchi jjigae, and yukgae jjang. Kimchi jjigae was very tangy and almost tomato-esque in flavor - thoroughly enjoyed. The kalbi was thinly cut and deboned, and felt like it was nice quality. The yukgae jjang was nicely spiced and flavored. It's a little pricier depending on what you order, but the quality and flavors are not lacking. The banchan were all fresh and we really enjoyed all of them. It was really nice to get steamed egg as part of the set! Also really appreciated the sikyhe they give at the end of your meal.

The food was amazing and there was a ton of food for the price. The beef and soup were flavorful and the bancheon had a big variety with dishes I rarely see elsewhere. And we got a bowl of rice and dessert for free (not to mention the bancheon). Service was good with decent speed and nice staff, and the inside is very interesting where it's divided into rooms that can be split off. Traditional decor and lots of space. Restroom is clean.

Came here for dinner on a Friday night around 7:30pm and had to wait almost a half hour to be seated. There is a lot of seating, and they even have a private room that was being used for a birthday celebration when we were there. We ordered the galbi and japchae and both were some of the best I've had and good portion sizes. We also got a soft tofu soup and rice drinks for dessert, free of charge. The prices of the meats were on the higher side, but with all the freebies they give, I felt that the value was good. The only bad thing was the tea they served, but the service was great! Food came out very fast.

I never would have found this restaurant, in a million lifetimes, on my own. A dear friend suggested this restaurant as a place to catch up It's not in a touristy part of town, truly a neighborhood restaurant serving the greater area...not tourists like me. We each ordered Cold noodles which when combined with banchan and steamed egg was more than a satisfying and flavorful dinner. The restaurant itself isn't big but had more guest than I expected at 430pm on a Thursday. The service was fast...serving banchan and hot tea almost immediately. Our mains( the cold noodles) tasted authentic and by every definition very good....part of the reason, I want to review this restaurant is to remember how good the food is here and if I can find it again, you can be sure I'm inside esting

This is the best authentic Korean restaurant in SF! There are tables where you can do actual meat bbq and there are normal tables to enjoy the just entrees. The banchan here is amazing!!! They switch it up and its always so good. They also give you a sweet rice drink at the end which is my favorite. The staff is super nice and the restaurant is very homey. Def try this place if you like real Korean food.

Tried Han II Kwan for dinner, it was really busy and the wait was around half an hour. They have a good variety of banchan, my favorite was the lotus root, jelly, and radish kimchi. Ordered the steamed egg, kalbi, and ox tail soup. Food came out pretty quick after ordering. -steamed egg: fluffy and yummy, the portion was a lot bigger than I expected for a Side Dish! -kalbi: the meat was flavorful and pieces were thicker cut, I enjoyed pairing this with the bean sprout side dish. I also liked how it was boneless. the beef was a little chewy though. -ox tail soup: the broth tasted very clean, they provide salt for you to add. this also came with green onions, oxtail, and glass noodles. They give you a refreshing sweet rice drink at the end of your meal which was a nice way to end dinner.

Came with friends. Parking is a little tricky but service and food was very good. Fast, friendly, efficient, clean , traditional, and cozy. Lots of family coming here. Young and mature aged people here.

VERRYY overdue review. This restaurant is great. It always has a line out the door so please plan accordingly! Street parking only, and this area is rouuuuggghhhhh to find a spot that's long enough to fit your car.. iykyk. Service: 5/5 Everyone who works here is quick and efficient although neither friendly nor mean. Ambiance: 4/5 Typical Korean restaurant atmosphere. Spacious, loud, and smells great *_* Food: 5/5 They offer bbq but we've never gotten it. Their lunch deals are a steal!! Serves tofu soup to every table as a complimentary!! Seafood bibimbap- My fav. Lots of seafood (scallops, shrimps, and octopus) and I really like how the rice gets so crispy at the bottom of the stone pot. Not much veggies in here, but as a seafood lover, this was amazing *_* Steamed eggs- I personally thought this was lacking in flavor but we enjoyed how fluffy the eggs are. This was great to pair with the tons of side dishes that are served. Short ribs (lunch deal items)- You guys.... these... had... no... BONES! *_* No veggies either. It was literally a small plate of just MEAT. My fiancé loveeed it. Overall, would recommend this place and would keep coming back.

TLDR: Not our favorite Korean experience. Large menu and banchan variety, but we felt there wasn't a super strong flavor in many of the dishes Food: One pro is that there is a huge variety of banchan from kimchi to lotus root (something we usually don't see when we eat Korean). The menu is also large having everything from soups to bbq to noodles/rice. Unfortunately for us nothing really wowed us and had a ton of the flavors we expect for Korean food. I also felt that for $50, the galbi portion was pretty small and thin. Service/Ambiance: There are a good amount of tables with a back room to fit larger parties. The service was fast and straightforward Price: Most dishes run around 20-25

Han Il Kwan is consistently great! I really enjoy coming here whenever I'm craving Korean food. I love that they provide nine different types of complimentary banchan and tofu soup, and they're all delicious. I really like the chewy noodles in the spicy cold noodles, and the bulgogi and bibimbap were both good. They also give you a complimentary sweet rice drink at the end. Service was friendly and very fast. You might have to circle around to find parking, but we've always managed to find street parking in the area.

Some of the best Korean foods in the bay! There were 7-8 banchans, plus an additional steamed egg that is on the house. Everything was delicious! I was surprised that they didn't ask me about the spice level for the tofu soup but it turned out to be pretty mild spice - which is perfect for me because I can't handle spice that well. Service was good as well! I will definitely come back again!

Fast service and generous banchan, but average food. - seolleongtang : lacking in bone broth richness or flavor, the sliced meat in the soup was also very dry and overcooked - galbi : comes boneless, the marinade was not quite on the mark, slightly dry as well and was overpriced - japchae : decent flavor

I get take out all the time. Not sure about catering though but can always inquire directly.

    Do they take reservations?

Yes they do! We have one for a party of 8 tmrw

    Do they still serve kalguksu?

Is there a bibimbap with a sauce on the side?

    Yep.

Is there still a parklet or outdoor seating? Can a party of 4-6 be seated outdoors? Any photos? Thanks.

    No outdoor seating right now

Is this place all you can eat or no?

no. pay for what/how much you order.

Does take out come with sides?

Yes! Side dishes AND rice and soup!

    Is this ayce?

    NOT ayce

How much is the cost per head?

It depends on how much you order. It was not all you can eat when I went and for a family of 4 we spent $150. I ordered a soup, 2 meats, some side dishes and a sweet soju.

That could be a good or bad thing depending on the vibe you are going for. All the dishes hit their mark for me. We got: Mulhwae: very refreshing white fish sashimi with refreshing greens, citrusy sauce and strawberries. I thought the strawberries added more to the presentation than the taste. However, the dish itself was delicious. Scallops and shrimp: Similar as above, a very refreshing light appetizer. I would get either this of the other because they're kind of the same idea. Potato fritter w/ mentaiko: probably my top 1 or 2 of the night. Think fancy hashbrown with creamy umami pollock row plus more crispy toppings. This is a must-have I would say. Soft tofu soup w/ galbi: I liked the theatrical element of pouring the home-grown soy from Oakland to create the tofu right in front of you. The umami broth and the jang make this dish very rich. Another must have! Pork jowl bossam: this was a delicious take on bossam. Smokey soft jowl. The greens and kimchi accompanied it made this dish taste so healthy while satisfying your craving. If you just love buttery soft tender meat, go for it. However if you like jowl because you like the chew/bounce on every bite, you might be disappointed because this meat is super soft! Drinks: matcha colada was a little too coconuttey for me. It kind of overpowered the taste of any matcha but if you like coconut, this is a perfect visually pleasing and sweet dessert cocktail. The lychee blossom had a pleasant taste of fruit and almost tasted like there was yogurutoo or calpico in it. I much preferred this drink and it was on the sweeter side too. Overall pleasant experience, worth taking some guests or a date. Also we got 4-5 dishes but left super full! We probably would've been fine with 1 or 2 appetizers less.

The portions were on the smaller side so had we ordered an extra dish or two, I think we would've been very full. We ordered about 3 appetizers, 3 mains and 3 desserts and it was just about perfect. Granted we were a bit late for our reservation, we ended up having to wait another 30-40 mins. The place (2nd floor) is small & awkward. We were all cramped waiting on the stairway and the actual seating area is also fairly small for a busy KBBQ place/big parties. The 8 of us squeezed into a booth with 2 chairs on the side. You can also feel whenever the table next to us got up and stomped/yelled/moved in their chairs-- which was really often. The basic AYCE menu is fairly limited-- esp for the side options. The marinated meats were pretty good as was the tteokbokki. Side & meat portions were alright, but the kicker is having to flag down staff to make sure they put in the order & bring it out. We asked for japchae about 5 times before it actually reached our table towards the end of our meal. The server/manager also told us that he had accidentally brought out 2 bottles of soju for us and that he'd COMP 1 bottle. We didnt notice that he had actually charged us for 2 and comped/subtracted a "third" one. So none were really comped at all. I just realized after we paid and that felt really sketchy.
