Jokbal

Easy seating (and parking) for an early dinner on a Monday night. The restaurant was dark, and we noticed an installation on the wall. It turns out people collect their bottle caps in clear capsules. Fun idea. We were very pleased to hear Woodz for most of our dining experience. I love jokbal, and I've never had it served in this style. Usually I've had large platters of sliced meat, but this was a bowl of the boney parts. It was so delicious. It melted right off the bone, and it had a little heat. I want to go back for this alone. Also enjoyed a dish of kimchi fried rice and sotteok sotteok with a happy hour priced soju.

Wow, this place is a 10/10. Authentic, delicious and great service. Everyone was so kind, attentive and enthusiastic. Our server even surprised me with a birthday sweet treat and candle :) so kind. We felt like we were in Korea/Japan being here. Love the fusion of options to choose from, food to drinks! We got the odeng fish cake soup, spicy tuna tower, 1,000 roll, and sashimi salad. Also got enoki fry and lion king not pictured as we devoured too quickly. Everything was 10/10!! Only thing I'd say is that the Lion King was too sweet for me but was still good. Got the glass cold sake which was nice. Kirin and Asahi are classic choices. Would definitely be back here!!

This place was amazing! I'm obsessed and have to come back. They are open late, staff was extremely friendly and the food was soo good. Definitely coming back. The restaurant itself is small and very cute!

I came for dinner (made a reservation) before the symphony (about 1.5 block walk from Herbst theatre). From the restaurant's website, I imagined the restaurant to be much larger. Instead, it was small - probably sits 25 (tightly) without the bar and maybe 20 with the bar. My table was next to the bar - felt cramped sitting in the corner - that's why it is a 4 star rating. Food was served temperature hot with kindness. Flavors, smell and presentation were good. I would recommend the sausage basket, a variety of different sausages, for an appetizer. It's a good segue into your main entrees which are small shared plates. They have a bar challenge - filling up a vase with empty bottle caps. Thought that was fun and an incentive/motivation for returning. The restaurant definitely would be a good bar place to hang out and simply have fun. Service was excellent - orders kept coming out as well as for deliveries. The wait staff always had a smile and kept asking if we are okay or if we need anything else. I thought the restaurant stools were unusual. Since there is no space to put your coat, purse, bags, etc., the stools open up for storage. I thought this was cleaver.

Just had an amazing Korean meal and the service was great. Everything was delicious. The bulldak chicken was a standout - super crispy with a fantastic spice and great texture. The corn cheese is always a classic and definitely one of my favorites. We also tried the deep fried rice cakes and sausages which were very good, especially with the glaze. They were soft on the inside but perfectly crispy on the outside. The budae jjigae (army soup) was also good, with the sausage and spam being perfect for the rainy weather. The musubi roulette which comes with 6 pieces and only one contains wasabi. So interesting and fun! The interior is lively and cool with all the led signages. I plan to come back for happy hour soon! Cheers!

This place was so good and so affordable. Everything on the menu is extremely shareable and great with friends. My friends and I practically ordered the menu but the few standouts were the wings, the wagyu fried rice, and the stairway to heaven. So affordable for so much sushi. And the fish tasted super fresh. Loved all of it.

Nice lil retro cozy pocha spot at civic center that has your usual Korean bar dishes but also a variety of sushi rolls, nigiri's, and omakase style selections! Came on a Fri night and got a bar seat fairly quickly but would def make a reservation as the place looks full. Had our order taken pretty quick and the food came out pretty quick as well. We ordered the budae jjigae and grilled pork belly with kimchi. The jjigae was super thick and flavorful, they didn't skimp on the meat at all! Pork belly was nice and juicy with a good amount of crisp! Saw a lot of more enticing dishes come out to other tables so would def come back to try!

definitely a hidden gem! a korean pocha/ japanese spot that has fun dishes like spam roulette. the staff was attentive and ensured our tteokbokki was cooked well! we got the: - juksuk tteokbokki ($27): huge portion, definitely must share. I have a decent spice tolerance but thought the sauce was quite spicy, be warned - odeng tang ($20): quite comforting and nostalgic - mini jeon ($10): definitely not worth it, really tiny portion and a bit mushy

Food - 5/5 - mmm...mmHmm...I like this place because it was a unique blend of Japanese and Authentic Korean dishes. I'm a big fan of soup-- NAGASAKI CHAMPON--had seafood, noodles and a light white broth (not collagen enriched) but it was still good. Daughter enjoyed her--milk yogurt soda, calamansi Korean soda and veggie bibimbap with bulgogi + tofu extra. Service - 5/5 - I love how the Korean lady was so polite and came back to our table --to ask if everything was okay. Wasn't sure if this was a kid friendly place --as it looked more like a Korean bar --but the owner gave my daughter a bunch of delicious Korean sodas. Ambiance - 5/5 - I like the ambiance and the nightlife--it was a horrible walk on Eddy St. Tenderloin but this food was worth the walk. Nice place to party with co-workers or close friends--on Van Ness Ave.

Cozy Korean spot near Civic Center, serving comfort Korean classics and a variety of tapas! Great service and didn't have to wait on a Thursday night. The Bulgogi nachos are beautiful, and the bulgogi serving is plentiful! The nachos themselves are delightfully roasted. The truffle enoki is a MUST if you're a truffle fan. Reminds me of the Mensho Ramen enoki appetizers! We also got the 49s roll, beautifully arranged with a refreshing bite of lemon on top. The kimchi fried rice is also a classic you can't miss.

Made a reservations for noon on a Tuesday-- just in case. Didn't need it but glad we made it anyways. Service was decent in this clean, small and slightly dark environment. Food was as expected and we were not disappointed.

We came here as a walk in and was not disappointed! This place is a pocha that also serves sushi. I don't always have high hopes for places that serve too many different cultures cuisines, but this place does it well! The fried chicken was perfectly crispy and battered. We ordered a pork bbq dish as well. The star of the show was the huge sushi platter. All of the fish was so fresh and the poke salad had the perfect amount of spice. My friends and I were all impressed by this spot and will be back!

Watermelon soju

Walked over Yasijang from Civic Center BART Station and that was an adventure of its own. Yasijang is so aesthetically pleasing and felt quite homey. Lots of decor, the lights, not so bright, perfect place to have a drink and some great food. I started with one of their specials (written up on a board)- the watermelon soju. So refreshing, especially after that walk. My friend and I shared the following items - Korean Fried Chicken- we got the sweet spicy flavor and it was really good! Not the most crispness wings, but the flavor was definitely there. Hamachi Roll - Mmm yellowtail! So interesting how this place has a mix of Japanese and Korean foods. Yum. We both enjoyed the roll. Corn Cheese - not the best, but still pretty good. Mild-ish on the flavors, but I do love corn and cheese! The sashimi salad- forgot what it was called, but we both weren't really a fan since it was way too saucey and took away from the flavors of the leaves and raw fish. Service was great in the beginning and food came out really quickly! It took a while for our waters to be refilled later on, but all good. It seems their army soup dishes are popular here. If I return, will def try one of those!

We were seated pretty quickly on a Sunday evening, and there were a couple of other parties there. They had a sign advertising a special where you can order two items from a list and it comes with soup, salad, and rice, but we ended up just splitting two house special rolls - the Salmon Mango roll and Rock N Roll roll (tuna, avocado, spicy mayo). Both were delicious. I particularly liked the Salmon Mango roll - it was a perfect mix of sweet and savory. The rolls came with 8 pieces each and each piece was a good size, so it was plenty for two of us. I also got a Sapporo beer (bottle) to sip on. Overall, good experience - quick, efficient service and satisfying meal.

From the moment we sat down, the sushi train immediately caught everyone's attention. Once we submit our order in the iPad, the bullet style train brought the food to our table. It made the whole meal feel interactive and exciting, especially for a family night out. The robot food server was also a huge hit at our table. It added a fun, modern touch and definitely made the experience memorable. It's not every day your food is delivered by a robot and train. It brought a lot of smiles and conversation to the table. On top of the entertainment, the food itself was fresh and delicious. There was a great variety of sushi to choose from, and everything we tried was flavorful and well-prepared. I think the combination of good food, unique service, and a lively atmosphere made this a standout dining experience. If you're looking for a place that's both fun and tasty especially with family, Hikari Sushi & Bar is definitely worth a visit!

Fun, efficient, simple. Nothing to add…read more I've been to a few conveyor belt, boat-sushi type spots in Japantown and I always end up back at Tenroku! Is it the best sushi ever? Not quite. I think expectations are usually low when going to these types of spots but given the quality and price, it's actually pretty surprising. I usually stop by for dinner on weeknights. It can get busy sometimes but I've never waited more than 10-15 minutes. Service is quick and friendly. The goal is to get you seated and taken care of right away. Once you sit down, it's game on. Chefs are busting out all different kinds of dishes for you to try. They also take requests if there's something on the menu you'd like to try. I love not having to commit to a roll and being able to try a ton of different things. Admittedly, I keep coming back for the seared walu. The plate color lets you know the price of what you're getting. Most plates come with 2-4 pieces and run from $3 - $8. I can make this dinner as cheap or expensive as I'd like!

Courteous, polite service. They provided a wet towelette for us to wipe our fingers and instructed us to eat each sushi piece in one bite. The temperature of the fish was not too warm and not too cold. I loved the variety of sashimi offered, especially the charred ones! Out of all the dishes, the smoked trout with the egg yolk and the Hokkaido scallop stood out. Only dish I wasn't too crazy about was the squid and pickled lotus root/eggplant, which was shocking to me since I normally love all those things! The texture of the pickled lotus was starchy.
