So so good! We loved all of the food that we ordered and service was great. Highlights were the galbi mandu, kimchijjigae, and the injeolmisu. The kimchi was really outstanding too. They provided us with a cute card and candle in our dessert for the birthday in our party. The inside of the restaurant was adorable and there was parking in the area that wasn't too hard to find on a Sunday evening! Would definitely return!

Had an amazing night at San Ho Won with the hubby! The restaurant has a Michelin star, and you can tell why, but it doesn't feel over the top at all, just warm, lively, and welcoming. The food is so delicious. Chef Corey Lee really knows how to balance bold Korean flavors with little creative twists. We shared a bunch of dishes, and honestly, every bite was memorable... some were standouts, some were fun to try, but all of it felt thoughtful and well-executed. The service was fantastic too! attentive without being overbearing, friendly, and really made us feel comfortable the whole night. Getting a reservation takes a bit of planning. They release tables 29days in advance and open bookings every morning at 10AM, so if you're aiming for a specific date/time, set a reminder and be ready right when reservations drop. Definitely a place I'll be thinking about for a long time, and I can't wait to come back!

San Ho Won is hands down one of the best Korean BBQ spots I've been to. From the moment you start eating, you can tell the quality is on another level--the meats are incredibly tender and practically melt in your mouth. Every cut feels carefully selected and perfectly prepared. The price point might seem high at first glance, but it's actually pretty reasonable if you go with a larger group and split everything. We ordered à la carte, which felt like the best value since we could pick exactly what we wanted. That said, the tasting menu is a great option if you're not sure where to start. Overall, it's an amazing KBBQ experience that feels both high-end and approachable. I'd definitely come back again in the near future.

We originally planned to go to Bon Nene, but the wait was way too long, so we walked a couple blocks over to San Ho Won and luckily snagged seats at the bar within about 20 minutes as walk-ins. We decided to go with the house menu so we could try a bit of everything, and overall, the food really impressed us. The meats were the standout--super tender, flavorful, and consistently delicious. If you enjoy that slightly sweet soy-marinated Korean BBQ style, you'll definitely like it here. The banchan were solid, and the pajeon was crispy with a good amount of shrimp. As someone who's Korean, I did feel like the kimchi jjigae was a bit underwhelming. It leaned more sweet than spicy, which isn't very traditional, but I still enjoyed it--it felt lighter than what I'm used to at home. The ambiance was really nice--clean, with a good mix of modern design and warm wood elements. That said, sound definitely travels, and it can get pretty noisy once the place fills up. Unexpectedly, the dessert ended up being the star of the meal. The orange and vanilla swirl was so refreshing and perfectly balanced--not too sweet, just a really nice way to end everything. We also had a ton of leftovers, which is always a plus. Service was attentive and genuinely good, which can be hit or miss at trendy, popular spots like this. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in SF.

I've been to San Ho Won twice. Most recently, I was a last-minute substitute when someone couldn't make a reservation. Upon arriving, we realized that we had accidentally reserved the tasting menu instead of à la carte as intended. I think most people prefer à la carte here, but I do like the tasting menu since it gives you a more well-rounded meal instead of the meat meat meat I'd probably be inclined to order otherwise. I think if the original party had been eating dinner, the conversation would've leaned more towards credit card optimization, and things like that but because I was there, it was more about dating (I love gossip). Our waiter advised my friends to check out coffee meets bagel. Near the end of the meal I went to the bathroom (excellent toilet btw), and I noticed that a food TikToker I follow was sitting at the booth next to ours. From watching his TikTok a few weeks later, it seems like we really missed out on a seafood stew (à la carte). Next time!

Friends treated us out to dinner here and she was able to snag a list minute reservation. We opted for the tasting menu and each ingredient was super fresh, but not all of the items were as delicious as we would hope for it to be. If I were to come back, I would just do à la carte since there just a few items they were stupendous. The one thing I was impressed most by was the galbi! The marinate was umami but not too salty and the meat was delectable and tender. This is a must get if you plan on ordering à la cart. Service was quick and friendly and the server shared a few laughs with us. I definitely want to try their other à la carte menu items and hopefully the next experience will be as amazing as their galbi.

San Ho Won was delicious with amazing quality meats and fresh vegetables. The service was just as you might expect, very attentive and friendly throughout the course of the dinner. My favorite foods were the Savory Egg Soufflé, Jebi Churi - Beef Neck Fillet, and House Double-Cut Galbi. The meats were perfectly cooked and all the food was timed in courses. This is a fun place to come with a large party as everything is shareable!

San Ho Won serves up delicious and elevated KBBQ. The price tag matches this, but I think it's worthwhile to try it out for a nicer occasion. I was finally able to try San Ho Won when I went with my friend for her birthday. It is infamously hard to get a res, but not impossible with sufficient lead time. The interior is more casual than expected, but the light wood does give things an air of fanciness. We sat at the counter, which was cozy but not too cramped. Here's what we got: Complimentary Banchan: Yummy assortment of dried fish, tofu, and more! Not exactly sure what everything was, but I enjoyed it all. Dongchimi with Preserved Green Plum ($6.5): This sounded like the fanciest kimchi option, which is why we got it. It was big blocks of fermented radish in ice-cold water. I cannot say this was our favorite... Just something about it being freezing-cold and then not being very unique in flavor. I'd opt for a more normal kimchi unless you know this is up your alley. Sanma Pajeon - Mountain Yam and Green Onion Pancake ($18): This sounded too cool not to get. It's expensive for a small pancake, but it's definitely a unique take on the Korean pancake. Both my friend and I really enjoyed it! It was crispy and flavorful. House Double-Cut Galbi ($72): This is the classic that everyone gets, so we decided to as well. It was good! It's very rich, as you'd expect. There is a lot of straight fat on the edges, which isn't always my personal favorite because it's so much that it can't all crisp up, and it can be a lot of chewing. That said, I still enjoyed it. It was also fun to try it with the different accompanying sauces! Japanese Sweet Potato (not currently on the menu): This was really yummy, and I hope they bring it back. It's simply a grilled Japanese sweet potato, which is amazing. And then it comes with this maple syrup-y flavored sauce and an onion foam-type sauce. Really fun combo! Kimchi and Seafood Gamasot Rice ($36): Yummy rice bowl is really all I can say! I personally think you have to get a stew or rice to pair with the KBBQ, just to keep things balanced, and this is a solid option. Now for dessert. I am quite the restaurant dessert critic because so often, I am let down. And I know it's logistically and financially hard for restaurants to do it, I know. But my sweet tooth is not thinking about the logistics and financials at the end of the meal. All that to say, I did not expect much from San Ho Won for dessert, particularly because they specialize so heavily in meat and savory. So I was very pleasantly surprised by their amazing desserts!!! Soft Serve Ice Cream ($9): I am not one to order ice cream for dessert at a restaurant because it seems so boring. But this sounded too cool, and it was amazing. It's gorgeous, loaded up with black sesame flavor, the black sesame cookie pieces and crumbs were a pleasant textural surprise, and the huckleberries were a gorgeous complement. The soft serve itself was super milky and creamy. The portion was solid. This was awesome!! Injeolmisu ($14): I like this more than regular tiramisu. It is simply such a cool take and executed so well. It's gorgeous, well-balanced, I loved the tea flavor, and then the random chewy rice cakes in there are so fun. The portion was solid as well. Again, this was fantastic!! All in all, we had a great dining experience at San Ho Won. One thing I'll note is that dishes come out kind of fast, and it seemed like the staff was expecting us to eat pretty quickly. We still ate at a normal pace and just would sometimes have a lot of plates on the table at once, but it was fine. Just a note if you're not a super speedy eater, and/or you and your party are chatting.

My friends and I had to get a reservation a month in advance and we got in line a few minutes before the store opened just in time for our reservation. The food was good, but not that outstanding. I wish there was more banchan. The interior is very beautiful and the service was great. I would only go back for special occasions.

I have not one negative or critical thing to say about my experience at San Ho Won. It's been on our list since we moved here in September and while the reservations need to be booked at least a month in advance, it's so worth the wait. The restaurant was super cute and fit the vibe of their concept. The food as, for lack of a better word, amazing. I want to go into detail of every item we ate but as you can see by the pictures we ate a ton of items. We went ala carte because we were just so excited, we wanted to order everything. The stand out for me was the House Double-Cut Galbi. I want to eat it everyday for the rest of my life lol. Honorable mentioned to the Galbi Manda and the Sanma Pajeon which were superb. We ordered all the specialty Banchans and they were delish. As a side note, we found the price very reasonable for the quality and level of food we were served. Lastly, and most importantly. The service was on another level. Every member of the team checked on us. It wasn't too much, like it felt we were being watched, but they were just naturally right there if we needed anything. Every time, and I specifically noticed, someone stopped at the table, they checked the temperature of our tea pot. It was flawless.

Sadly didn't live up to the hype ): Been waiting to try this place ever since they opened and finally put in the effort to snag a reservation for me and some friends on a Sunday early dinner. Check in was easy and service was great! Liked that the booth tables had high walls so it felt pretty private! We opted for al a carte but basically ordered most items on the set menu. The enoki banchan we got was good but the other kimchi-esq banchan was not my favorite. Savory Egg Souffle- probably the best item! The spicy anchovy soup was so good with the fluffy egg!!! Felt like an elevated steamed egg- very flavorful and hearty Beef Tartare with Asian Pear- the seaweed chips were good but maybe a bit overpowering paired with the beef tartare. Didn't really taste much sweetness from the pear- more of a texture element Hwe Muchim- small portion size, nothing special from other hwe I've had before. The slaw that was paired was very acidic so positive or negative depending on what you prefer House Double-Cut Gabli- super fatty and tender, but some pieces were all fat which was unfortunate Beef Neck Fillet- Tender and not a common cut of meat I get but honestly tasted like the brisket in Taiwanese beef noodle soup LOL had little tendon pieces inside the meat Side of Scallion Salad- the waitress highly recommended this with our bbq meat but was nothing special and would definitely skip for $4.5 extra... very acidic Grilled Tteok- inconsistent texture, my friend's skewer was a lot softer than mine which is the one thing you're looking for when you get tteok so don't know how they messed that up, dango sauce, would skip this too Mugunji Kimchi Jjigae- Probably my least favorite item, wayyyy too acidic, not much pork jowl (also pieces were half fat) and did not like that they served it at the very end. Did not end the meal on a good note and felt like it made my stomach feel weird with all of that acidity. Would've been better paired with the meats. Overall food was okay, definitely not unique enough to justify the pricing. Experience and ambiance was nice I guess, but for all the effort to get a reservation also not that worth it in my opinion. I did hear that they switch out items seasonally so maybe I got a bad round. Glad I tried it once though!

This review is long overdue, since it's either the sixth or seventh time I've come here. I absolutely love coming here; the service is fantastic and extremely friendly (this latest time, when one of the items we ordered was out for the night, they gave us some complimentary ssam) and the vibes are pretty casual. I typically spend about $100 per person post fees. Everything I've had on the menu is amazing, but the double cut kalbi is a step above everything else. Beautifully textured meat, smoky, a tiny bit sweet, just amazing. I've never even come close to finding short rib as good as this in the states. I had a truly out of body experience the first time I had it (probably partially induced by being starving, since the first I came was for a 10PM reservation). If you don't get this, you're missing out. It was so good it made me look into buying lychee wood charcoal to try replicating it at home, but it's truly hard to find. A few scattered thoughts: The tasting menu is IMMENSE. You WILL need takeout boxes. A table next to ours checked out after the barbecue and took everything else togo. My friends checked were already almost full by the start of the barbecue. There's rotating seasonal banchan (I wish they brought back the potato!), and definitely ask for more if you really liked it. The latest I came, it was enoki with fish cake, and kimchi. The other kimchis are worth trying as well, I would recommend the baek kimchi and dongchimi when it's available. Perilla leaf kimchi is really strong and really interesting, but not for everyone. Save space for dessert, I've almost always ordered the whole dessert menu. Rotating bingsu, very seasonal, not too sweet. Amongst barbecue, the kalbi is definitely the big winner; the beef bulgogi, when it's available, is also fantastic, super unctuous and beef-forward, not overpowered by the marinade. The pork ribs are also good, but have been a bit more hit or miss - the latest time it really hit, but in past visits, it's been good (but not amazing like the kalbi). Would recommend getting the ssam or scallion salad along with it. Come for a special occasion or not, you won't regret it!

I was excited to snag a 5pm Friday reservation at San Ho Won. This was my second time back and it was just as good as I remembered. It also seemed like there were newer menu options. We ordered à la carte and started with the savory egg soufflé ($18.50) and original kimchi ($6). The soufflé was a great starter, light and flavorful, slightly spicy. The kimchi tasted fresh! I also really enjoyed the fish cake banchan. For meats, we got the house cut galbi ($68) and beef tongue ($46). The galbi was just as good as the first time, tender and full of flavor. It was my first time trying the tongue and it was surprisingly tender. The sauces paired really well with the meats. We used the ssam lettuce wraps for the meats and ended with the kimchi jjigae ($24). It had great flavor, solid end to the meal. Service was super attentive throughout the meal. They replaced our hot tea many times, which was a nice touch. Obvious, but I would definitely go back!

Am I able to get the tasting menu if I reserved the general reservation?

I don't think there's a restriction. You can let the server know what you wish if it is the House Menu or the ala carte.

    Can i do walk in?

Yes, they have counter seating for walk-in dining but it fills up very quickly and the line gets long.

Hours say to 10 PM but there are 10PM reservations. When does it close?

    2.5 hour dining limit

    Is this place gluten free?

I don't think so. I had rice, rice noodle and glass noodle options

4:40 and a 20 minute wait on weekends would be perfect

"Please note that our soy sauce contains gluten, and our dishes cannot be prepared without it." I think they are trying to nicely say No.

Do they seat more than 8 people together?

You need to contact the restaurant for parties larger than 8.

Is there a certain dress code?

I was not aware of any dress codes. When we were there we were dressed casually.

Kid friendly? Can I bring my 18months toddler with me? Do they offer high chair?

It depends on how well your child can sit at an indoor restaurant for 1-2 hour dinner. Mine wouldn't be able to!

    What is the corkage fee?

According to the FAQs on tock, it's $50 per 750 ml bottle. https://www.exploretock.com/sanhowon/faq

    Can you do gluten free?

Their soy sauce contains gluten and their dishes can't be made without it, so I don't think they can.

The barley and butternut squash puree were nice additions and paired really well. The sauce was delicious. The Galbi Steak was a standout. We added on the lettuce wraps and ssamjang, and I highly recommend this. The galbi was tender and juicy. It was good on its own but adding it in a lettuce wrap with the ssamjang took it to another level. Overall, I had a great dinner. I enjoyed all the flavors.

The marinated meats were pretty good as was the tteokbokki. Side & meat portions were alright, but the kicker is having to flag down staff to make sure they put in the order & bring it out. We asked for japchae about 5 times before it actually reached our table towards the end of our meal. The server/manager also told us that he had accidentally brought out 2 bottles of soju for us and that he'd COMP 1 bottle. We didnt notice that he had actually charged us for 2 and comped/subtracted a "third" one. So none were really comped at all. I just realized after we paid and that felt really sketchy. Idk if it's worth coming back here.

San Wang Rest, San Francisco 2026 Feb 9 (4.29 of 5)…read more This restaurant wasn't on our radar, but we're glad we stopped and ate here. The food is excellent to okay, but the service is first rate. Once seated, we were offered a couple of complimentary dishes - kimchi and soup. Their food is decent and their service is great. Every table has white linen, even for lunch hour crowd. The price is awesome - the lunch menu includes a starter, a soup, and a hot pot of tea. (4.75 of 5) Kimchi: This complimentary dish is an excellent start before our lunch order. The delicious taste of tangy, savory, spicy, and sour, together with a complex, pungent, and, crunchy profile is the perfect start before our lunch selection. Its fermented cabbage has a strong, aromatic notes of garlic, ginger, and chili powder, which marries perfectly with our set lunch. (4.5 of 5) Soup: The soup of the day is a mild clear soup with bits of prawns and vegetables. This is lovely when paired with the boisterous kimchi. (4 of 5) Our orders from their Lunch Special: Vegetable Deluxe: A great selection of vegetables, though they're mostly semi-done to near raw. The wontons were really good though. (3 of 5) Broccoli Chicken: The chicken pieces are tender and the broccoli in this dish is cooked well. (4.5 of 5) Braised Tofu: This is my top dish. It's flavour-packed in a savoury, aromatic sauce. The tender, chewy texture acts like a sponge, absorbing the deeply flavourful sauce. Superb! (5 of 5)

San Wang is one of Japantown's oldest and finest restaurants. While some might find it ironic to…read moreeat Chinese food while in Japantown, it's one of the best places you could choose for a meal while visiting the neighborhood. The ambience is warm and family friendly and great for big groups. The staff are incredible and lovely individuals that care very much about the patrons. If you need a break while traversing Japantown, take a seat at San Wang and enjoy the lunch menu if you can. The Sweet and Sour Shrimp is my favorite! If you're a local to the neighborhood like me and craving Chinese food, this is the best option. Try to catch them during lunch time! Everything is tasty and the staff are incredible!
