We ended up getting the smoked brisket, jalapeño cheese sausage, and potato salad. Everything was so delicious. The brisket was extremely tender and melt-in-mouth, jalapeño cheese sausage was an explosion of flavor, and potato salad was perfect creaminess level and seasoned/garnished well with bits of crunchy texture from the red onions and topped with green onions. Not trying to be a hater, but I left feeling pretty disappointed in Fikscue. My aunt is Dutch-Indonesian, and I grew up really enjoying the Indonesian dishes that she cooks and shares with the family. That made me pretty excited for Fikscue and its very unique concept. Unfortunately, I just didn't care for the execution. We visited on a weekday afternoon, aiming for the 4:00 pm opening time. My husband got in line pretty early and had a few people ahead of him, but the line behind him was nuts. As many others have said, these guys run out of things and I guess it happens pretty quickly, but they keep a whiteboard at the front of the register to let people know what they've run out of as the afternoon goes on. Since this isn't somewhere we'd be eating at regularly, we decided to try a number of things on the menu: - Smoked dino beef ribs: My husband loved these and they were, indeed, pretty generously sized. We got 1.7 pounds at $38.00 a pound. - Beef cheek: Fall-apart tender, but tasted like a mouthful of smoke to me. That was the one and only flavor note I could detect. My husband enjoyed this more than I did. The two BBQ sauces made this more palatable, to a degree. We got 0.54 pounds at $38.00 a pound. - Rendang plate: A big miss for me. My aunt's rendang is phenomenal -- I didn't care for this at all. Granted, my aunt did tell me that her rendang is much saucier/broth-heavy than most and certainly is compared to Fikscue's, which was more like a deconstructed stew. I don't know what the flavor was that I really did not like in this dish, but whatever it was killed it entirely for me. This is described as being made of slow cooked smoked brisket dry curry, served with spicy eggs, kale curry, rice, and shrimp chips. - Nasi goreng: Indonesian fried rice. Now *this* was delicious. I cleaned my plate. - Smoked ayam lumpia: Filling was delicious, outside was super crispy, but these were so oily that I didn't want to finish them. All the dressing on top was unnecessary, too. First time in my life I didn't inhale lumpia on a plate in front of me. - Banana pudding: Delicious. Nothing super unique about the version they sell here but a tasty banana pudding is a tasty banana pudding and I'm not going to complain about a good version of one of my all-time favorite desserts. One of my biggest criticisms about Fikscue is the one-note flavor of the meat. *Everything* tasted like smoke and nothing else. I didn't get a nice meaty flavor in either the ribs or the beef cheek. It just tasted like I was standing next to the smoker with my mouth open. It was unbelievably disappointing given how tender the meat was. This place is also incredibly expensive, which made the overall experience even more disappointing given the very high price of the meal in the end. Our grand total came out to $181.69, tax and tip included (also includes two bucks for a bottle of water). There's limited seating here, but if you buy a drink next door at Alameda Brewing, they'll let you sit at one of their tables. Overall, I don't think I'd be interested in returning to Fikscue. There were other Indonesian dishes on the menu we'd be willing to try, but I'm not curious enough to wait in that ungodly line for them. read more

This was my first time ever going to this Alameda Brewery and wow- it it leaves a GREAT impression on me! The setup is very casual and clean. This BBQ spot has halal meat and chicken stuffed egg rolls!!! Which is crazy because I'm allergic to pork! Then the sauces and the presentation for the egg rolls were were beautifully colored and had much texture and depth to them! My Boyfriend didn't want to eat too much, since we just came from lunch, but the server gave him a sample piece of the tri-tip and he said it was Smokey and he loved the flavor! The server was very helpful, since parts of the menu are words in their native tongue, so that was a bit overwhelming for me, but my Boyfriend just asked them what everything was. Hee. I love how they wrapped (or kept their culture) as they made this menu and didn't water it down .... You can get a seat if you're lucky! There are bar stool seats inside, but very limited. Reka, the owner, typically works the register on the weekends and she's a sweetheart! The place is family owned with a new location at Mission Bay in front of Chase! The staff is super friendly and quick! The wait is never long! But if uou have to wait, it's WELL worth it! The beef dino ribs are super tender and flavorful! That huge piece of meat just falls off the bone and is so flavorful! The rendang plate gives you a nice little taste of "Padang" which is an Indonesian region. The kale curry is so off the hook! Greens and BBQ is a perfect fit! This is the Indonesian twist! Had the chance to check out Fikscue before my departure from the Bay. Fikscue combines Texas-style barbecue with Indonesian flavors, with a fully halal meat menu. I ordered the Iga Saos Kacang ($30) and the 3-pc. lumpia ($12). The Iga Saos Kacang came with two ribs served on a banana leaf with sweet rice, pickled vegetables, and bumbu kacang (peanut sauce). I also ordered the soda gembira ($4). The food and drink came out at the same time, at about 5 minutes. The ribs were phenomenal. They were tender, smoky, and paired incredibly well with the peanut sauce. The sauce itself had a really nice sweetness to it, complementing the richness of the beef without overpowering it. One fascinating discovery I've made about Indonesian food is just how prominent sweetness can be. Rather than treating a sweet component like the coconut rice as something to eat on its own, you're often meant to combine everything together, creating a flavor bomb with every bite. That's what makes Fikscue's concept so interesting to me. Texas-style barbecue is already heavily focused on smoke, seasoning, and the quality of the meat, while Indonesian flavors can bring in sweetness, nuttiness, spice, and acidity. The Iga Saos Kacang showed how naturally those two styles can work together. The lumpias were nicely fried and surprisingly filling on their own! I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who explained that the lumpias were a popular addition, with some customers ordering them by the dozens. They're filled with meat and vegetables and have a big, satisfying crunch. Just watch out for the oil! Coming from my own Vietnamese perspective, the soda gembira reminded me of Vietnamese soda sữa, minus the egg. Pandan and coconut flavors are familiar to me, but if you've never had pandan and coconut together, it's a wonderfully fragrant combination that's simultaneously creamy, sweet, and refreshing. The soda gembira was a particularly fun drink to have alongside the smoky, savory barbecue. Service was excellent as well. The staff were really nice and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Before it was my turn to order, I saw the staff engaging in Indonesian banter with the customers in front of me. It gave the restaurant a very warm, lived-in feeling that emulated the hospitality found in Indonesian culture. Fikscue is doing something genuinely unique by bringing together halal Texas-style barbecue and Indonesian cuisine. Add in the friendly service, and the long drive from the South Bay felt justified. 80 dollars for one rib and two sides is crazy... the rib is over cooked. I know people in the Bay dont know anything about bbq but you should be able to see your teeth mark in a clean bite with ribs. The venue itself is tiny, more like a hole in the wall. They have some counter seating inside and there is an area right outside where one can eat. Good news is they are located next to Alameda Brewing, where one can dine in if you grab a beer. Parking can be challenging, so good luck with that. I also overheard the young lassie at the register say Saturdays are crazy and usually much busier than Sundays. Well they do an excellent job on both cuisines and blending it together. Everything is nicely paired and delicious too! Hubby had the Dino ribs which were HUGE, meaty and juicy! I had the Rendang (Indonesian), a side of lumpia and a dumpling special. Everything was an explosion of flavors! We were a significantly impressed and will be back. Our friends warned us that the lines can get really long but we went around 2:30 and it was not bad at all. But the problem with going too late is that they run out of some of the more popular foods. My husband and I arrived to the back of the line on a gorgeous Saturday morning at about 11:45 AM. The line was already quite long, even before doors opened at noon. We had a group of friends meeting there at 1 PM to celebrate my husbands birthday. This was everyone's first time trying Fikscue While in line we grabbed some beers and Micheladas at Alameda Brewing. Around this time, a very sweet kind lady (maybe the owner?) came out and thanked the crowd for patiently waiting. I took the opportunity to ask her how long the wait from where we were would be. She estimated around 45 minutes. It turned out to be more around 1.5 hours. But we knew her answer was just an estimate. We ordered everything except drinks on the menu. And a lot of it. The meat was premium, juicy and tender. The smoky flavor really penetrated to the bone. We really enjoy the banana pudding dessert (not pictured). This location is cleverly located in between two breweries which is great because you can grab your food and a beer at either breweries. This bussiness seemed to cultivate community and an overall great spot to gather. The only negative experience our group had was with a couple in line in front of us. We were large group (8 people and 3 kids) and a friend accidently bumped into the couple in front of us twice. We were trying to take a group picture and bumped into the man. This grown man cursed us out calling us "effing idiots" and many other ridiculous names. Look we are all here trying to enjoy a delicious neighborhood mom and pop. Indonesian Texas style BBQ caught our interest! Definitely a good idea to get here early! Expect to line up like any other BBQ joint. After the line, you order at the counter. Got the food faster than expected. It's right next to a brewery, but there's a shared space with a few tables outside and only a few counter seats inside. We ended up taking it to-go to enjoy at a nearby park. Brisket was great, juicy and tender. Dino rib just fell right off the bone. Burger was tasty but not standout for me, would probably just order more meat next time. All the food we got was perfect for sharing! Street parking with nearby lots. Great barbecue and great, friendly service. I've heard so much about Fikscue, I was looking forward to experiencing the barbecue. I arrived at noon and the line was a dozen customers deep. After about 30 minutes or so, I made it to the counter to order. I had one Dino Rib ($38 per pound)and a Beef Cheek ($19 per half pound) on special. I thought it was a good value as I've seen other places charging more. The lunch came out to around $80. There was about 10 bar top seats inside and a few tables outside. Fikscue Craft BBQ popped up on my social media feed, and the concept of Indonesian cuisine with a BBQ twist immediately caught my attention. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon before 2 PM, fully expecting a long wait after hearing how busy it can get--but to my surprise, it wasn't too bad. One thing to note is that there is very limited seating at Fikscue itself. However, there's a beer spot next door where you're allowed to sit as long as you order from them, which is a nice workaround and makes the experience more relaxed. Unfortunately, they were already sold out of ribs, which was disappointing since ribs are my favorite type of BBQ. That said, the food we did order more than made up for it. We had the rendang plate, brisket, sausage, lumpia, and potato salad, and everything came out delicious. The flavors were bold, well-balanced, and satisfying, with generous portions. I also liked that they offer different sauce options for the rendang and lumpia, which added variety and depth to the meal. The employees were friendly and welcoming, rounding out a great overall experience. While I'm still hoping to catch the ribs on a future visit, I'd definitely go back again if I'm in the area. This place was really interesting. You wait in line outside, and there's a sign that shows how much meat is available for the day. We came around 12 PM on a Saturday and waited about 20 to 30 minutes. We ordered the brisket, Dino beef rib, and jalapeño sausage for our meats. For sides, we got the potato salad, slaw, and fried rice. The potato salad was so good, and the slaw really surprised me with a nice peanut sauce flavor. The fried rice was also packed with flavor. The sides were easily 11/10. The meats were pretty good overall. The staff was also very kind and generous when we asked for more sauces. I'll definitely be back, and next time I'll probably get larges for the sides to make the wait even more worth it! read more

Only came for the Indonesian plates and daaaamn they were good!! Got a plate with grilled chicken and a plate with the brisket rendang. The chicken came easily of the bone and was not dry. The brisket rendang was a deeper drier rendang with more grassy notes that the rendang I've had in the past but was very very good too. Kale curry was a surprise hit -- I kept going back for more bites of this. It's like, a better version of collard greens. The kale was soft and tender without being mushy (like spinach can get) and zero bitterness (like collard greens can get). Everything on the plates were just really well balanced. Other than being too popular and rubbing out of food, Fikacue is pretty perfect for a hole-in-the-wall place. The staff are friendly and patient, as guests have questions about the Indonesian/Texas fusion cuisine. The brisket and dinosaur ribs are BBQ not too be missed, and the Indonesian Bagator and Nasi Goreng are always in our orders. The texture of the dessert Banana Pudding is a great counterpoint to the umami main course. We've done the eat-in and take-out options. It was such a pleasure to try Fikscue! I love that the menu offers classic bbq & Indonesian bbq! I wanted to try something new, so I got the balado plate with brisket. It was so fun, flavorful, and exciting to taste new flavors. I absolutely loved the plate and the sides of curry kale and the shrimp chimps that came with it! The service was awesome, very helpful and thorough at answering my questions. There is a super chill dog friendly outside seating area as well as some indoor bar seating. Definitely an inventive and well executed BBQ spot in Alameda. As connoisseurs of Texas BBQ one of the biggest problems we have in CA is cooks times. Too short Fikscue didn't seem to have this issue. Brisket is the tell all and if it's cooked long enough the fat and meat basically meld together. And such was this We also had the Dino rib and beef cheeks. The rib was amazing, huge, maybe a little salty. And the beef cheek was good - I expected it to be more melt in mouth so prob would go back for that. The slaw and potato salad were both excellent fusion versions. Long line, come early. You can sit outside or in the beer pub next door. Ambiance is more how you frame it for yourself The prices - well with beef like it is - they are HIGH. We decided that going back for a little brisket with a nice roll down the street and some slaw could definitely be an every week occurrence. read more

Now I saw this place on social media as one of the best barbecue in the Bay Area. Well in my visit, let me just say I was disappointed. The food was OK and overpriced. The brisket was a bit dry so was the ribs. The sausage tasted like sawdust and potato salad was flavorless. Service was good lady that helped me was nice and suggested what to get. The place inside is pretty small, but there's plenty of sitting outside and you could sit inside the brewery next-door, which is what we choose.
