When I first visited this place, I remember the food being pretty decent. But on my second visit, it honestly felt like a completely different restaurant. First, the jjamppong was always a bit on the salty side, but at least the broth used to have a deeper, richer flavor that made it stand out from other places. This time, it was just salty, with none of that depth or flavor that made me want to keep eating. The jajangmyeon, on the other hand, has always been pretty bland. Even from my first visit, I couldn't really figure out what flavor they were going for. It just doesn't have much taste. But the biggest disappointment was the Sichuan-style sweet and sour pork. This dish had changed so much that I honestly don't even know where to start. The frying technique, the texture and quality of the meat, the flavor of the sauce--everything was completely different from my first visit. And unfortunately, none of it was good. It simply didn't taste good at all. Lastly, I couldn't really tell whether the server was actually there to provide service or just function as a robot. If the only job is to bring food to the table after we order, without ever checking on us or asking if we need anything, then what's the point? The restaurant wasn't even busy. At that point, I honestly think a robot would do a better job. Overall, it's disappointing because I remember this place being much better. The food quality has gone downhill significantly, and the service didn't make the experience any better.

We came on a Sunday for lunch ~12:30 PM. Only one other party dining here at the time. We were seated pretty immediately and ordered on a tablet. Got the combo jjamppong, jjajjangmyeon, and tangsuyuk for 40 Jjamppong was decent, a lot of seafood and the flavor was good. Jjajangmyeon tasted just salty? But i do like that it had potatoes in it as well! There were also meat chunks but those were dry. Now, the tangsuyuk. Tangsuyuk is the main thing i get every time i go to these places. The batter used on this one was light, crispy at first but got soggy really fast. The SAUCE. Ugh the sauce. It was soooo thick and SLIMEY!! i haaaaated the slimey texture. My partner liked that it wasnt too sweet but i thought it was lacking that bright burst of flavor. The radish was also a packages slice radish that was on the sweeter side. Service is so hard to get. It is just one lady, and she did come by once while we were eating but it was so difficult waving her down to check out and get to go boxes. There is a button on the tablet to request the bill but either it doesnt work or she was too busy. Overall, the food was mid and the service i think could be great but she was just swamped :( Parking plentiful as they share the lot with ohgane. No background music so it could feel very quiet inside when there's no one else as well

A little trick in pouring the left over soup into two bowls so it doesn't get mixed or create a mess

I ordered Noodles in Black Bean Sauce + Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup (Half & Half) Regular, and Sweet & Sour Pork (Small) I got sat down quickly. Ordering was also very simple and came out timely. Utensils and water came right away. Very casual dining experience. Also tables are clean. Black Been Sauce/ Jjajang 4/5 I thought the noodles were nicely cooked with a slight chew to it. Texture was nice. The sauce was good but I had wish there was a little but more protein on it than a few pieces of pork. Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup/ Jjampong 4.5/5 Noodle's texture was also perfect. The soup was absolutely delicious. I don't have a high tolerance but I enjoyed the kick it had to it and the lingering of the spices didn't last long. A good trick is to eat the pickled daikon on the side that came with it. Soup was delicious and flavorful. It was also packed with a bunch of protein and many other veggies, so it made up for the lack of protein on the black bean sauce. Highly recommended dish. Sweet & Sour Pork 3/5 I wish it was a little bit crispier since it was fried pork in cornstarch. The sauce is good but I thought it was a little bit too sweet and not enough tang. My Korean brother in law taught me to enhance it by making a separate side sauce of soy sauce, little vinegar and some chili powder as a second dip combined after dipping it in the sweet sour sauce. It gave it more contrast and tasted much better. Ambience 4/5 Nice and casual dining area. Table was clean. Staff 4/5 Very friendly and made sure I had utensils all available, including water.

The Ultimate Combo Bowl (Jjamjja-myeon / 짬짜면) Jjamppong (Spicy Noodle Soup): mild but rich seafood and pork broth packed with veggies Jajangmyeon (Black Bean Sauce Noodles): comforting, savory, and slightly sweet black bean sauce over perfectly chewy noodles Tangsuyuk (Sweet & Sour Pork) Crispy, deep-fried pork strips coated in a vibrant, glossy sweet and sour sauce.

This place absolutely slaps. The spice is no joke so be caution, i can handle my heat well, and i liked a level 2. The soup tastes great and I honestly can't find any comparison for this place. it's a must-try in the area. you order on a tablet, and the ambiance during lunch is really just a bunch of working professionals. pretty good time! will be returning :).

Szechuan pork and dumplings

Yummy jjajangmyeon and jjamppong! I know the restaurant comes straight from Korea and could see why it's praised. I love that you're able to order half/half since both dishes compliment each other so well. I know they're known for their spice; I didn't order the option this time but will definitely try for next time. For the appetizers we ordered the szechuan pork vs the usual Tangsuyuk. While the sauce was tasty, it wasn't spicy and leaned towards a sweeter taste. Hopefully they serve the white onion next time along with the pickled radish. The service is quick and you order with the ipad on the table with the restaurant kept in clean conditions. Ambiance is a bit bare I think due to the new opening.

Would be a 3.5 stars. Services is lacking but the food is good. Stumbled into this new noodle spots Dishes are simple with seafood noodles, black bean noodles, fried pork, and dumplings, you can select the level of spiciness and we chose the miles level. Soup is creamy and tasty with loaded seafood. Texture of the noodles are al dente. The sweet and spicy pork is ok, the meat is tender but the sauce was too saucy. Maybe next time will escalate the heat.

Jajangmyeon, jjamppong & jajangmyeon, & tangsuyuk

Really delicious jjamppong spot that just opened up in Oakland. I came as a party of 3 on a Saturday for dinner, and we waited approximately 25 minutes to be seated. I ordered the jajangmyeon and a tangsuyuk to split, my boyfriend and friend ordered the half and half jajangmyeon and jjamppong. The jajangmyeon was saucy and came loaded with pork and veggies! The noodles are so bouncy and chewy, they absorb the sauce perfectly. The tangsuyuk was also yummy and crisp- it came with pineapples too! I liked everything about our dinner. They advertise this on the tablets inside but not outside- you can also park in the Ohgane parking lot next door! We found street parking relatively easy, but this might be better for future patrons and their peace of mind.

Food is good! On Broadway so deal with it however way. Thin sliced raddish is . Ordered the Spicy seafood noodle @ 80% spicy...ding, ding! Broth is awesome. You can easily eat a bowl of rice with it. Sweet & spicy shrimp is delicious!

Went with a large party & we all had a great time! Food is flavorful & the servings are large. The jjamppong was so addicting & my favorite out of the three dishes. The rice cakes weren't too spicy, so I wouldn't be too concerned if you have a low spice tolerance. Service was super friendly & attentive! Would love to come back.

The Jjam-Jja-Myeon and Kongguksu at Jjamppong Jizon were absolutely delicious! The sweet and crispy glutinous rice tangsuyuk was amazing as well. Everything tasted so authentic that, for a moment, I felt like I was back in Korea. Highly recommended!

We came on a Monday for dinner and queued in a short line to place our order. The ordering process is pretty straightforward! You order at the outdoor window before getting seated (indoor/outdoor available), and the food is brought out to you. Here's what we got: + Kamo Yaki ($18) (5/5): Definitely my fav item that we ordered!! The duck had such a nice smoky flavor, and the onion sauce added the perfect amount of umami without overpowering it. I especially loved the duck meatball paired with the egg yolk. It was sooo rich and savory, and easily my fav thing that we ordered :) + Nishin Soba ($25) (4/5): This was light, comforting, and delicious! I thought the herring was cooked perfectly, and I liked how the dish was flavorful without feeling too heavy. + Ten Seiro ($25) (4.5/5): Between the two soba dishes, I definitely preferred this one! The cold dipping sauce was super refreshing, and I loved the contrast between the chilled soba and crispy tempura. The tempura was also a nice addition that made the dish feel a bit more substantial. + Mango & Passionfruit Mochi ($14) (3/5): We finished off our meal with the mochi, which I thought was just okay. While it was a nice way to end the meal, I didn't find anything particularly memorable about it. It was also pretty pricey for what it was, so I'd probably skip this one next time. Overall, we had a great experience at Soba Ichi! Service was great, our food came out quickly, and everything felt pretty seamless from ordering to dining.
