Came here on Saturday evening around 7pm ish, party of 6. It was walking distance from an escape room near 19th street so we stumbled upon it from convenience. We all split all the specialty cocktails and I got the Khao Pad Kang Kiew (rice with eggplant and chicken topped with a fried egg). Dishes are $20-23 ish each. We were seated at the 6 person table in the back of the restaurant near the bathroom. My favorite drinks were their take on a hard thai iced tea, the lavender mojito, a take on an espresso martini. There was also this spicy drink that had thai chilis in it that is VERY spicy lol. Pros: - the rice dish was DELICIOUS and also huge haha. Came with cucumbers to cut the peppery flavor if needed. - All the cocktails were pretty different and it was fun to try all of them. They were all beautiful to look at and tasty (lots of coconut and Thai inspiration). - Service was pretty good - Has "typical" thai dishes like pad thai and pad see ew, and also more rare ones that are hard to find - Close to many bars and other establishments, so perfect if you want to eat here as a first, second, or third location of your outing haha Cons: - The air flow in the back wasn't amazing so I did feel like it got stuffy/hot - Parking can be tough in this area so I recommend BARTing Another reason to love Oakland! read more

I walked here after walking to the nearby post office because I craved some basil eggplant with chicken. I called ahead and ordered and asked if to be the least spicy possible. Unfortunately it was too spicy for my liking and some of the white rice was burnt from the being at the bottom of the pot. There was only 8 eggplant pieces in the entire dish and surprisingly a lot more chicken. So depending on your preference this may be a good thing! I was really craving the sweet, earthy flavor of eggplant so while lots of protein was greatly appreciated I did wish there was more eggplant in the dish. Either way it was a good portion of food so they don't skimp here for sure! The service was friendly and super attentive the moment you walk in. "Good Thai in downtown Oakland" Came here on a Thursday night with a party of five. This is an unassuming little restaurant in the downtown area. When you walk in, it looks like they only have 3 tables and a counter, but they have another dining room off to the side that is larger. We were seated quickly despite our size, and given menus and special lists, as well as a pitcher of water. I was a little sad that SO many of their specials had pork (I think all but 2), but the main menu had a lot of non-pork options, so we opted for those. I ordered the Kang Kiew Wan Gai, which has Sliced chicken, eggplant, basil, bell pepper, finger root, and kaffir lime leaves in a green curry sauce. My son got the Massamun Nuer-- Slow cooker beef, potatoes, onions, carrots, crushed peanuts in Mussamun paste & tamarind curry sauce. Another person in our party got the pad mee chom pu rice noodle dish with shrimp and tofu. And we had the Satay Makuer eggplant on skewer appetizer. The appetizer came out in less than 10 minutes. It was very tasty-- the eggplant was soft and juicy and the peanut sauce was scrumptious. The main dishes came out maybe another 8 or so minutes later, so still relatively quickly. I was nervous my dish would be too spicy (green curry!), but it was what I'd call a medium heat, so perfect for me. I really liked the flavor, and the basil and peppers complemented the dish nicely. My dining partner who got the pad mee chom pu rice noodle was happy that was a very mild dish, and the shrimp in it was excellent (though still had tails). Although it looked very different, it tasted a fair bit like pad thai. My son loved his massamun nuer-- the beef was super moist and tender/ soft, and the flavor was excellent. I also got a Thai milk made from coconut milk (I was nervous my dish may be too hot), and I enjoyed it even if I didn't need it to cool down. The server checked on us several times, which was really nice. And the price was reasonable-- most entrees were just below or just above $20 before tax and tip, which is not bad for downtown. I appreciated that the server made a point of noting to me that the gratuity was already added when I paid, too. I did stop briefly in the restroom, and it was clean and well-stocked. And no MSG in their food. Overall, I don't see any way it could have realistically all been better, so I'm happy to heartily recommend. I'd happily come back. read more

I hadn't been to Pintoh Thai in years, so when I saw that they were offering a pre-fixe for Oakland restaurant week I knew I had to check them out again! I ended up going with their crispy papaya salad for my appetizer, the lamb shank curry, and ice cream for dessert. The crispy papaya salad was interesting since I had never had the dish prepared in that manner. It came with an excellent dipping sauce that provided some salt and acid to balance things out. The lamb curry was awesome! Hearty, meaty, with a flavorful and creamy base. The roti was also a great side which provided a nice buttery and fluffy touch to my main. My meal also came with coconut ice cream, but I passed that to my friends to avoid the dairy. I had a great time at Pintoh. Our servers were nice, the ambience and vibes were colorful and on point. ORW26' brought me here and I had a pleasant 3 course dinner with my mom at Pintoh Thai. The ambiance here is colorful, vibrant and each corner is beautifully decorated with South East Asia kitchenary items. Staffs were friendly and efficient during my visit, quick service and took good care of my table. It was happy hour, so we also tried their Lycheetini and O-leng Martini, both were really well-made. For appetizers, we picked Hoi-Jor (Fried Pork Dumpling with Crab) & Somtum Tod (Fried Papaya Salad), we both love the Hoi-Jor - the portion was generous and the sauce underneath was delicious. I usually enjoy the regular fresh Somtum so this fried version did took me by surprised, the shrimp served with it was fresh and juicy, a fun dish to try. We picked Kanom Jeen Nam Ya Pu (Rice Noodle with Crab Curry & Lobster Tail) and Khao Pad Neua Yang (Char-Grilled Sirloin Steak with Fried Rice) for Entree. The Khao Pad Neua Yang was really good, I love the marinated egg yolk with soy sauce that was serve together with it, steak was tender and the rice was so flavorful, totally recommended this dish. On the other hand, the Kanom Jeen Nam Ya Pu did not wow me, the presentation was beautiful but it quite lack of flavors. The lobster tail was surely fresh but not worth 9$ extra on top of the $45/person prix fixe tasting imo. For dessert, I-Tim Boran is the only pick, this is a Thai-style ice cream with purple sticky rice and various toppings likes jello and fruits, all serve together on top of a sweet bun. Tbh, I personally feel this one is very mid, in compare with all the items on the menu that was carefully crafted with a vision, this one just not up to it. Maybe it was the store bought vanilla ice cream taste or maybe it was the variety of toppings that not compliment each others well... But instead of such a complicated desserts with complex texture and flavor, I guess I would rather end my meal with a simple scoop (or two) of a type of ice cream that would represent Thai's flavor and cuisine likes Thai Tea or Coconut. Overall, beside the dessert, it was a good experience at Pintoh Thai for me. Went for ORW26' and was throughly satisfied with my three course meal. The highlight was their spin on a papaya salad. It reminded me of a deconstructed salad where the papaya was fried crispy & the string beans were fresh. The salad was topped with two well cooked shrimp and the generous portion of sauce, which came on the side was flavorful. This salad alone has motivated me to come back. I also got a sirloin steak paired with garlic rice which came with an egg and a soy sauce mixture which I poured over the rice - Absolutely delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly, and although I don't typically enjoy eating raw eggs, it paired perfectly with the rice. The dessert was OK - ice cream on top of a would seemed like a Hawaiian roll with purple sticky rice on the side and also a few pieces of mango. Overall 10 out of 10 experience. I went to Pintoh Thai with a group of friends on a Friday night around 8pm. The host asked if we had a reservation, and since we didn't, I was fully prepared for a long wait. Luckily, we only ended up waiting about 15 minutes. I'd recommend making a reservation if you can, but if not, you might get lucky like we did. We ordered the Moo Ping and the Khao Pad Pu. Both dishes were delicious and flavorful, though they needed just a little more salt for our taste. Thankfully, the sauces that came with the dishes added that extra punch and balanced everything out really well. I also ordered the lavender mojito. I had a craving for pad seew so decided to venture DT Oakland to check out this place base on Yelp suggestion. Sadly they ran out of wide noodles and offered to make it with thin rice noodles instead. There goes my main reason for Thai food craving was shot. I suppose the universe said no Pad Seew for you. So far I've had this curry and a few of their wide noodle dishes and the dishes have been flavorful, tasty and made with fresh ingredients. We ordered a mix of cocktails and food that came out in a timely manner: the Lycheetini, Lavender Mojito, Peek Gai Tod, Pad See Ew with pork, and Khao Soi Gai. Both the cocktails were our top choices and did not disappoint. While the Lavender Mojito had a stronger alcoholic and floral taste, the Lycheetini was light, fruity, and refreshing. The Peek Gai Tod (crispy wings) were perfectly fried, juicy, and crunchy! Love this spot! Been going here for a couple years now - it's one of my favorite Thai spot in the Bay. The foods are cooked so well here and packed with flavors. It's not a big restaurant but there are plenty of seating for in dining. Love the vibrant tablecloths and decor. I bought my friends here for a late bday dinner and they all enjoyed the meal. One of my favorite items are the moo ping (grilled pork skewers with sticky rice), laos sausage, hoi jor, and any of the stir fry noodles. The moo ping comes with a dipping sauce that's so good! Goes well with sticky rice and the grilled pork is juicy, not dry. The stir fry noodles are always delicious - has a great wok hei taste and abundant in flavors. The khao soy is a popular item here that comes in a comforting and flavorful curry broth. Also loved one of their special desserts that is kind of like a fluffy mochi with coconut pudding (forgot the name). Their cocktails are also a must get! Tastes so good and looks fancy. Unfortunately, it took me 20 minutes to find parking because of all the construction around the area. When we arrived, we were seated in the corner. Our server quickly took our drink order and said he'd return to complete the rest of our order. I guess it was a busy night because for the next 15 minutes, we watched parties that came after us get served their food :( Perhaps it's because we were in the corner but the server and host made eye contact with us numerous times before finally taking our food order... As for the food itself, the khao soi was alright. The noodles are clumped together, a sign of it being overcooked. The curry sauce lacks a bit of depth and spice which can be fixed with some chili oil. The fried rice was decent. Nothing really memorable. The green Thai tea was very sweet, even after asking to add more milk. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the service and food. There was a large group that seemed was still waiting on their dishes when we placed our order so I was expecting a long wait for us but that was not the case. We ordered the chicken curry with an extra side of rice, Pad See Ew, an iced Thai tea and mango sticky rice for dessert. Curry - 5/5, super flavorful. Pad See Ew - 4/5, good. Stopped by Pintoh Thai in Oakland for lunch and had a great experience! The space is bright and stylish but still feels casual and welcoming. This visit was already starting off well when my friend and I were lucky to snag a parking spot right in front of the restaurant! I finally strayed from getting my usual orders and tried something new: the boat noodle soup. It was perfect for a rainy day. There was plenty of meat and just the right amount of noodles. Some of the best Thai food that I've had in a hot minute. We got the khao soi and the kang dang moo (red curry w/ slow cooked pork). I was initially worried that they would taste the same but they were so different. Khao soi was creamier + fresh flavor from the raw onion, cilantro, and lime. The kang dang moo was richer with that pork flavor that melted into the red curry. I preferred the kang dang moo more while my friend preferred the khao soi - both 10/10 overall though! I really want to come back and try more of their dishes. You can really tell they put a lot of love into catering a delicious experience here. The service was kind and food came out so quick.
