As soon as we walked in, the staff greeted us with such a warm welcome. The restaurant has plenty of seating, and the cozy atmosphere made it feel like we were dining in someone's home. We ordered family-style and got the roti, crab fried rice, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, yellow curry, and mango sticky rice. Every single dish was delicious as we cleaned every plate! After getting my haircut nearby, I decided to stop by for lunch. Their menu is quite robust with most of the popular Thai dishes you'd expect to see.and some lesser known ones like crab fried rice. It all looked promising, but I was here for one item at the end of the menu, the $18.95 Khao Mun Ghai (Photo 8). Their version consisted of slices of a steamed chicken breast over garlic ginger rice. Along with their housemade sauce and a cup with chicken broth. It looked promising, but the meat was unfortunately dry as if it was left in the steamer too long. To offset this hazard, I prefer either a dark meat option or a mix of both white and dark. There was no dark meat on my plate. I thought the rice and broth were closer to my expectation with the sauce fairly middling in flavor. I'd still come back here for the other Thai dishes, but I'll probably skip this dish. My wife goes here all the time. I've been to Thailand so I feel I can attest to this - this place is absolutely legit. I flew back from Bangkok, and the next day I was still missing Thai food. This is my first experience dining in and I was pleased with the comfortable atmosphere. They even have a lovely patio area with heaters. Every dish feels freshly made, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared, and the service was warm and welcoming. Avocado Rolls: 6/10 The avocado rolls are fresh, bright, and beautifully wrapped. The creamy avocado pairs perfectly with the crisp vegetables, and the two dipping sauce brings everything together with each sauce making an entirely different dish. Light, refreshing, and the perfect way to start a meal. Chicken Pad Se-Ew: 9.9/10 (somewhere there is a perfect version, but this is close) The chicken pad se-ew is outstanding -- perfectly chewy noodles, tender chicken, and that slightly sweet, smoky wok flavor that only a good Thai kitchen can achieve. And I absolutely love that you can add extra noodles for just $2.50. It's such a simple option, but it makes the dish even more shareable. My parents and I shared the following: Egg rolls = piping hot, but really good and tasty. It wasn't oily! Moo ping with coconut rice = my parents ended up sharing this and they loved it! The beef was tender and well seasoned. The coconut rice was legit delicious! I had the thai fried rice with beef and that too was delicious and seasoned correctly. Thai Taste Kitchen is an excellent hidden gym located on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. If you were just walking by on the street you might miss this establishment given the relatively small entrance. As you walk in, you are greeted by the friendly staff who offer you a seat inside or on their lovely patio (my preferred eating spot). Thai Taste has a variety of Thai dishes, but if I'm being honest... I'm always here for the Kao Soy. They do it really well so I see no need to change my order haha. Each bowl is full of a flavorful coconut milk-based broth and tasty noodles. The Kao Soy also comes with a generous portion of perfectly crisp and tasty chicken. I'd highly recommend this dish if you visit! I also recently tried their avocado rolls which comes with both peanut and hoisin sauce. The food here is excellent and the service is on point. Do yourselves a favor, if you like Thai food, you will surely find the food here delicious. Parking can be tricky, so one of us sometimes disembarks while the other looks for a spot anywhere & then arrives when a text says "pick me up"! This is our go-to Restaurant, this year for Thanksgiving & Christmas both. Friends who joined us were impressed with the food & were very interested to know the name & location of this restaurant. Now my In-Laws like to order Take Out more often, and they always want to order Thai food! It used to be they wanted Indian food, which we love but truly had not found satisfactory in the past. I'm so glad because Thai Taste Kitchen doesn't disappoint! They have been impeccable about marking the containers & even packaging meat vs vegetarian items in separate bags, and they allow specifics like "no shrimp paste" or whatever, more of "this" or none of "that". White Rice included free with entrees thst are not noodle or rice based, and if you prefer individual instead of family style, you can add an appetizer to each entree individually for about $5-$6, which is about the same as splitting an appetizer order in half, but sometimes people prefer a different appetizer. I like to avoid fried foods, for example, but others love egg rolls or fried chicken (was that an appetizer or an entree?) Thai Iced Tea comes in one size only, and it's small, but consider the calories. This is probably best in small size & I was thoroughly satisfied, I had not indulged for many, many years and it was so delicious. If possible, get it with no ice so it doesn't melt on the way to your destination, you can add your own ice once you get there. Tbh, I started drinking it immediately & finished it in about 10 min, since my husband was driving. Treat yourselves & I think you'll be really glad you found this place. One caveat, they are short staffed so keep that in mind if you eat in the restaurant, I believe only one person is serving tables and may also handle the register, so it may require patience. Was in the neighborhood and wanted something simple soupy and curry. My go to dish lately at Thai restaurant has been Kai Soi, northern Thai curry noodle soup dish. They offer a few variation with different protein. I went with their standard dish that included chicken and beef. It was delivered fairly quickly in a large bowl on a large plate. Toss in the pickled greens, onions and beans sprouts with freshly squeezed lime makes the curry broth do much flavorful. It's sweet, tangy and slightly spicy to break a sweat. However the place is actually really big (you wouldn't really suspect it from the outside and narrow door entrance). I feel like you really can't go wrong with any food options within Piedmont because every single one has been amazing. Our old Thai spot close and we have been in search of a new Thai place for some time. We came across this location and decided to give it a shot and it's just been magical. This is a really tiny place but they do have dine in and there's typically always a line, either for people taking out or waiting to get seated. I usually order takeout because I'm typically on the go and just need something quick to take home. Now onto the food. I have never had the chicken larb before but I decided to go out on the limb and try it because why not? When I talk about flavor sensation, this dish is it. It's so delicious and just made so well. We have such great Thai food all around but I would have to say that this was probably the best flavor profile I've had in a while. The crab fried rice is also delicious and I love how they really load it with fresh crab. The garlic noodles are always a win, you can't go wrong with the roti and egg rolls are just delicious. The sauce is the icing on the cake. The pad se ew was chalked full of deliciousness, and literally I feel like everything here is just delicious and cooked to perfection. They do offer a spice level with the dishes, and I find that the Thai hot isn't super spicy however if you're used to spicy foods, this may not hit as super spicy. If you're not used to spicy food and happen to get something that's a little hot, it may just be a little hot but it's not gonna be overwhelmingly hot And it's still tolerable, in my opinion. Service for delivery is typically pretty fast and prompt. I can order something and have it be ready within 15 to 20 minutes, but I feel like it's pretty good. And everyone here is so nice. Customer service for the win! Just keep in mind that this is Piedmont, and parking is at a premium. It's not impossible, but just keep that in mind. But definitely worth it because you know you're gonna get great service and the food is gonna be flavorful and delicious. Thai Taste is my fave thai spot in the Oakland area, for their romantic back patio (dog-friendly) and delicious flavorful foods and large portions. Came by for a weeknight treat-ourself night with my friend, and we were happy to enjoy Piedmont on the weekday without the hustle and bustle of the weekend. There were plenty of spots on the street for parking, and we easily walked in without having to wait to be seated. Our servers were SO kind and attentive, shout out to the wonderful ladies holding it down and the beautiful chefs making our delicious foods in the open kitchen concept you can see right when you walk in from the front door. We started with their yellow curry and roti appetizer which was honestly our most favorite dish. I am picky with my roti and Thai Taste's is SO flaky, perfect with their initial crunch, but buttery soft goodness. Holy moly, that yellow curry I could just drizzle all over my body, yum. Their pad thai looked so tasty, my friend loved it. And I enjoyed my pad kee mao. I'm a sucker for rice noods and Thai Taste really had us raving about the flavors. I walked out so stuffed and my belly so warm and happy, it felt like a spiritual experience. My spouse and I came around 7:30 pm on a Friday and were told to sit wherever. We found a two-person table, but I found it a little jarring because the restaurant's layout made it hard to see what seats were available without going through each area. Fortunately, we didn't have to walk too far to find a table. After we sat down, we ordered a BBQ Chicken with Papaya Salad (they asked how spicy and I said not spicy) and Baa Mee Moo Dang Poo (dry style or soup style, and we ordered dry style). It took a while for our dishes to come. For the BBQ Chicken with Papaya Salad, the papaya salad had a good crunch, though it was a bit too sour. The sticky rice was wrapped in plastic and then covered in foil, and I wondered a) why they wouldn't have removed these wrappings to make it easier for the customer and b) whether all of the wrappings were necessary (it could be necessary if customers generally don't order a lot of sticky rice so that creating a large batch would waste food). The chicken was a little fried, unlike the menu picture, and I was bummed because I wanted to avoid fried food. That being said, the meat was moist and had a good crisp, though It didn't have much flavor. This made me wonder if this chicken was healthier than what you typically get at restaurants. When the Baa Mee Moo Dang Poo came, there was a set of disposable chopsticks, and I told them we didn't need that, so they took it away. I preferred to use the fork because it was reusable instead of the chopsticks, which were disposable. The server accidentally spilled a little of the soup on the side and gave my spouse an extra napkin to clean it up. The noodle had a decent texture, though the meat was very dry. The dish overall was just okay. The table next to us was loud, which I believe was related to not only their volume but also internal acoustics. We had sat at the two-person table next to the four-person table in the alcove between the two larger seating areas. All in all, while I love that this place uses so many reusables, it wasn't pleasant for me to physically dine in, and the food was just all right. I hope that I just had bad luck that night. First time trying this spot and must say it did not disappoint. Got 3 different dishes to share with my wife and it was PLENTY of food for two. Portion sizes are good, even for takeout. My favorite was the Pad Ki Mao with beef. This was well executed for takeout and maintained heat well in their lunch containers. Good mixture of noodles veggies and meat. My wife enjoyed her yellow curry over rice. It was filling and not overly sweet like some other Thai spots. Found a new Thai spot in Oakland, Yes!!! Food is different than any Thai food I have every eaten. They incorporate ingredients that's not the traditional way like crispy garlic in the garlic chicken dish I ordered. My friend got Thai basil said it was delious diffrent flavors then other places. It was all cooked yo protection with love, and came out in a timely manner. The best Samosas you've ever tasted have some curry and I can't tell you the rest just try it. Melts in your mouth and 2 is just enough but could eat the whole thing. Service was efficient laid back and friendly. Not rushed at all! Located at the bottom of housing?? It's like a underground garage with a restaurant and patio. It's cute and homely, there's plenty of setting both inside and patio area the walls are old random doors, so cool! I stopped by Thai Taste Kitchen around 7:00 p.m. on a Monday evening and the place was completely empty inside. My party of five were seated immediately in the back of the restaurant. As it was a really cold day outside, the restaurant had space heaters in the restaurant running to keep patrons warm. My party ordered samosas and roti to share. Of the two appetizers, the roti with curry was far superior. Both items were fried, but the samosas tasted really dense compared to the light, fluffy roti. The curry had a really nice sweetness to it as well. For my main, I ordered pad Thai while my wife went with their fried pork and rice. My tofu pad Thai was a tad on the sour side, but otherwise it was a pretty standard preparation of the dish. The fried pork dish is crispy, but because of how small some of the pieces of pork are chopped up, you end up with the protein being overcooked, resulting in the pork tasting a little bit like jerky. I hear from my friends that Thai Taste Kitchen has a great outdoor seating area. I'll have to check that out next time when I stop by during the day when it's not pouring rain outside. read more
