Nothing special but also not a hole in the wall. Seems like the kind of place that's great for families. FOOD I gave it a 3 stars because I just didn't like the food all that much. It was very mid, not a fan of the sauces and the ingredients were sufficient but not the fresh locally sourced kind of taste I've gotten from other local Thai spots. It felt like everything was sweet even when it didn't need to be. It's as if they tailor their food to customers who add sugar to literary everything and can't appreciate dynamic flavors or other cultural cuisines -- it was off putting to me. Broccoli beef had a sweet after taste, crunchy noodles, hot and sour soup , even the peanut sauce tasted bad and that's hard to mess up -- it was just too much sweetness and bland flavors , and I was a bit disappointed honestly I couldn't finish the meal after realizing every dish I got was going to be filled with sugar regardless. Stepping into 2026 trying a family owned Thai restaurant that's been around for 40 years ! There is convient parking and access to the restaurant in the rear of the building. Upon entry, feel free to grab a table of your choice. Overall vibe was of the restaurant was pretty chill and laid back. The menu was pretty extensive offering a variety of appetizers, salads, main and curry dishes served family style. We chose the egg plant, fried fish w/ chili sauce, pumpkin curry w/ shrimp and 2 sides of coconut rice. Each dish was executed well, portion sizes just right and you felt like you were eating food served from someone's home. Will need to visit again soon to try some other dishes for sure ! read more

I ordered pad see ew and pad thai to go. It was ready in less than 10 minutes, super quick! When I went in near closing for lunch, there weren't any customers so it was quiet and calm inside but there was a big space. The pad see ew was a little too sweet for me. I know it's generally a sweet dish but this tasted more than usual. The pad thai was delicious and perfectly sour with the added lime! read more

Not sure how this place has a 4.2 because the food is not good. It is very poor quality and did not have any depth of flavor. Just sugary sauces poured on top over overcooked, dry everything. Should have known when it only had 3 tablespoons on a Friday night at 7pm and only two DoorDash orders went out the whole time we were there. The bathroom was dirty to the point someone in our party refused to use it. Very off-putting in an eating establishment. They told us soda and water were our only drink options, then served the table next to us beers. We asked for chili oil and had to wait to another table left Because they apparently only had two for the whole restaurant. The staff was really nice, but other than that, steer clear. There are so many better Thai restaurant options. They have got to be paying for reviews or something, because this place was the exact opposite of good. read more

I've been coming here for a few years. Nothing has really changed since except maybe prices going up with inflation. But the food is excellent and I think the portions are great. I also like that the meat is typically the main event of the dish. I think other places can sometimes cheap out on the meat. I usually get the yellow curry, but have also tried the pad see ew and the pad thai. I've also tried the Thai tea and Thai coffee. All were great. I'm not sure if he's the owner but there is an older gentleman who is so kind and welcoming. there's so many thai places in berkeley/oakland, but i choose saysetha time and time again. the restaurant feels so homey, and the customer service here is top notch. the workers are all so kind, and i have a good time every time im here. i often get the gaeng masamun which is like a peanutty curry which is sooo good with super tender beef. sometimes ill get it with the coconut rice, which is a super fun flavor combo that one of the workers recommended! ive also tried the lard nar noodle, pad see ew, and pad thai - and you really cant go wrong with any of these options. read more

We usually order delivery but tonight we decided to dine in. Parking was easy as there was a big green sign pointing to Saysetha's designated area. No street parking necessary! The mood of the space was inviting with bright colors, warm lighting, and intentional decor. They don't play loud music, which gives space for easy conversation. The man serving us was so nice and had good humor. On top of the ambiance, the food was delicious and arrived fast. Sayesetha is one of my favorite no frills Thai spots in Oakland. I love grabbing takeout from here, but also appreciate getting a table with friends every now and then. The service is excellent and the owner is super friendly. I went recently and ended up getting some pad See Ew and beef curry. Both dishes were super tasty. The curry had a rich flavor and was very filling. The owner even brought out some soup for us on the house! Ambiance: We had the food as take-out but it would have been alright to eat at the restaurant. There's a lot of space, even for waiting. The waiting area benches are hand carved and intricate, and the decorations in the restaurant are typical Thai, and not overly full. Just enough to remind you this this a specialty restaurant. The food was amazing, I had their green curry, fried tofu, chicken satay, chicken coconut soup and garlic noodles. It was all very flavorful and a lot of the portion. You didnt just get a small bowl of curry/soup you get a very large bowl. The service was great, you got the waiters attention very easily and the food came super fast, they answered our questions, and gave us everything we needed. This is our neighborhood Thai spot. I am thrilled they have survived for so long. I have been eating takeout from here for about 24 years now. They have lasted through neighborhood hold-ups (grrr), the pandemic, and so much more. It's great food and really lovely people too. The fish curry is fantastic, as is the Tom Kai Gai. The fresh rolls are a meal on their own, if you want to eat light, and they have mango in them. If you want noodles, I think the Pad Kee Mao is a little better than the Pad Thai, but you can also get a side of either type of noodle and add them to the Tom Kai Gai -- which might be my favorite noodle option. I crave the Tom Kai Gai on the regular. It is so bright and well balanced. If you want fried rolls, prefer the veggie spring rolls over the meat ones. They have glass noodles in them and come with sugar/vinegar dipping sauce w/ chopped peanuts. The peanut sauce is great as well. Most Thai places let me down in some area, but not Saysetha. I feel lucky to have them so close. Try everything. :) I hope you love it as much as we do, and I hope they continue to stay in business. It's a gem! I'm the one that makes adjustments like , no fish sauce, no oyster sauce, and this restaurant still delivers flavor that matches the flavors of my childhood when I did eat these sauces! Consistently a great spot! I've now tried many noodles, rices, and curries, and they're really good. My favorites are pad see ew and pumpkin curry. There's an older gentleman I normally see (maybe he's the owner?) and he is so friendly. Their takeout is also very fast, usually ready in 10-15 min. Highly recommend! read more

Appetizers were okay, but entrees were drenched in sugary salty mess of a sauce with NO spice. We came in for dinner really hungry after a long day visiting in Berkley and sat down to order 4 dishes two entrees and two apps: summer spring rolls were pretty nice and light, the sauce was somewhat over powering the papaya salad was also ok but a little heavy on the sweet sauce, but both the curry and beef- broccoli dishes tasted like you were eating globs full of salty canned soup stock with a bunch of sugar added...we left with most of it uneaten and a $75 bill for two people. This establishment has been around for decades and for good reasons. The service is super friendly. This is definitely a place for friends and families. It is also clean and spacious. This place was super cute on the inside; the tables and the decor. It's not a small "hole in the wall" type place. It's spacious! I was greeted as soon as I came in. Everything was great except, the pad se ew was a little more sweeter than what I'm used to. And it was a little soupy... like the flavor didn't mix well into the noodles. This place deserves a lot more love and attention. I came here on Valentine's Day because I was struggling to find a place without a long wait when I stumbled across Saysetha on Yelp. We called to see if there was a wait when we were informed that there was none. I came in here around 8pm to find out that it was completely empty. The original restaurant I was trying to go to had over 2 hour wait. After eating here, it makes me sad to see small businesses struggle, especially after the pandemic (I know it's still going..) The service here is exceptional, you can tell the Thai uncle was grateful for our business. Food came out quick despite numerous take out/ delivery orders. And lastly, the food... the food was solid. We got the pad sew eww and fried tofu. The pad se eww was flavorful and large in quantity. The fried tofu was moist and not over fried or dry. I ordered food online, made a mistake by hitting take out, and called the restaurant immediately, and the gentleman who answered the phone said yes, I just received your order. I explained that I made a mistake and would like to do delivery he said ok you'll have to call grubhub to switch it to delivery." So I called grubhub and explained the story they in turn, call the restaurant. Grubhub gets back on the phone with me to say that the restaurant isn't doing delivery and I'll have to come pick up the order. I can't come and pick up the order and they should have just said that when I called. I asked for a refund they restaurant told grubhub No. I said you either have to give the customer credit or a refund . I just placed this order less than minutes ago. The outside doesn't look like much, especially when it is next door to A+ Burger which has outdoor seating but the food here is amazing. Beef salad 9/10: flavor was amazing (seriously, try it) but just slightly too salty. The lettuce was an awkward size. Too large to mix into a salad but too small to make a lettuce wrap. Saysetha Crispy Noodles 8/10: I grew up on these noodles, I just wish I ordered 2 they noodles covered in sauce get soggy quickly so eat quickly. I love the bamboo Basil fried rice 8.5/10: large portions, good flavor. I wish it was a little spicier Pad Thai 8/10: Can't go wrong with pad thai, this was just a little sweeter than I like Ask for hot sauce/chili or extra spicy if you have a moderate spicy level because everything tastes better when you're chugging water and crying :) read more

The owner was serving us. Found out he has had the restaurant for the last 35 years. I had the Tom Kha ( the coconut soup) - just amazing. Tasted just like the one (plus better) in Thailand. My date got one of the hot pots with shrimp (the baked prawns with crystal noodle dish ) soooooo goood. I am declaring this spot as my new and official fave Thai restaurant in Oakland. Best Thai food I've had in a looooong time. The yellow curry was deep rich and complex, hearty with potatoes and pumpkin and lots of protein (most other places fill it with loads of onion and carrot). The papaya salad was crisp, fresh, perfectly balanced, and loved the fresh iceberg on the side, rather than wilted underneath. The chicken wing appetizers were delicious- so flavorful and generous portions compared to other places. The pad see ew was also excellent- lots of broccoli, protein and balanced sweet and salty seasoning (some places add black pepper, which is off putting). We chose tofu for the curry and noodles, and it was perfectly cooked, it was stir fried with seasoning, not deep fried and bland and greasy like other places. We'll definitely be returning. This was an amazing meal! We came with a party of 6 so were able to try multiple entrees and all were outstanding. We had the combo appetizer plate, panang beef, pineapple fried rice, yellow curry, pad thai, garlic noodles and coconut chicken soup!
