Loooooove this place! Why have I only now discovered it? Cute and quaint and colorful only a short…read morewalk from the Fox, so a perfect spot for a pre-show meal. Better make a reservation though, because it fills up quickly. My friend and I were both not super hungry, so we shared an appetizer and an entree and it was more than enough for us. Appetizer were fried fish cakes and the main was eggplant and tofu with streamed rice. Everything was full of flavor with just the right level of spiciness and the right amount for two not-so-hungry ladies. The cocktails were amazing, I had a lycheetini and my friend had something that contained thai ice tea. So good! But the very best part of it all was the wonderful service with friendly smiles and a little jokey attitude. Very pleasant. Will be back and bring the fam!

Love the vibrant, colorful ambiance. Came in during lunch on a weekday and it wasn't too busy. Took…read morea little while to order though, but the food came out fairly quickly. My friend ordered the yellow curry (kang pak $16.5) with chicken (+$3). I thought the price is a little outrageous but it was really tasty and packed with ingredients. I ordered the pad kemao, medium spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all. The thin slices of beef were a little tough. Flavor was decent, but I found the young peppercorns annoying to eat around. Not worth getting, in my opinion.

Chai Thai Noodles is an amazing Thai restaurant near Lake Merritt in Oakland. My friends told me…read moreabout this place many years ago, we were lucky to find out about it. They serve many authentic Thai and Lao dishes with lots of depth and rich flavors. My favorite dish here is Prig King, a green bean dish served with your protein of choice in a spicy sauce. It pairs well with any rice dish, and fun to share when you're ordering a few entrees. Their rolls, curries and papaya salads are also great choices! The customer service is good, they constantly check in on you and refill your water without interruption. The decor is nice, with a fair amount of seating during lunch hours. They have locations in Berkeley and Hayward as well. Chai Thai is a great spot to have Thai food if you're near the 880. Be prepared to explore their menu, and you'll be happy if you love spice! You'll find out why they keep the locals happy!

Came by Chai Thai Noodles in Oakland for a late dinner and it hit the spot…read more I ordered the Chan Pad Poo, which is basically Pad Thai with crab meat. Asked for it extra saucy and it came out just right--definitely one of the better Pad Thais I've had in a while. The crab gave it a nice richness and I'd happily get it again. Also tried the Tom Yum Noodle Soup with flat noodles. Noodles were cooked well, but the broth didn't have that deep tangy/spicy punch I usually look for in Tom Yum. Not bad, just a little lighter than what I'm used to. Menu marked both dishes as spicy, but they weren't too hot. For me, that was fine since I like a good kick (my spice tolerance is about eating Thai red chilis straight), but most people would probably find the heat level pretty comfortable. Service was quick and friendly, and the place had a relaxed vibe. Not too busy for dinner, with some nice artwork and Thai décor around the room. Overall, I enjoyed it--especially that Chan Pad Poo--and would definitely come back again.

Golden Lotus is hands down my favorite vegan restaurant in Oakland. If I could eat here every day…read moreit would make being vegan easy. I've done takeout as well as dine in and the quality of food is the same regardless! The only reason I came in was because I'd DoorDashed from them several times and my coworker asked if I knew any good vegan spots. The food isn't bad, but I feel like the price to portion ratio is way off, and now I have an idea of where that extra cost is going to. It's weird that the only reviews that mention this are 10 plus years old and treat it like fun window dressing. I feel like that's the type of info you need to front load into a review.
