    Sticky rice with mango

Family owned restaurant. This place has always been delicious each time we've been. Food is always fresh. We've eaten here about 3 times now and each time has not disappointed. Will return again!

    58. Pad See Eew - no spice
    Jenn D.

Great hole in the wall spot. I've been coming here for years, but today they really surprised me. I called in my order for larb with pork and pad see eew with beef. They didn't ask for spice level on anything I ordered so I assumed it was going to be made as listed on the website. The pad see eew was covered in red chili sauce (see photo) which made it SPICY. I've never had pad see eew served this way either here or at another Thai restaurant and was shocked to receive this in my to-go order. On the website it is listed as "#58. Pad See Eew. White rice noodle pan fried with Chinese broccoli, eggs, black soy sauce." There is no mention of red chili sauce and the person who was going to eat it can't take spicy food. I called the restaurant once I received the order and they said that's how they normally prepare it. The chili sauce is standard. I explained to them that it was not listed on the website and no one asked me spice level when I called in my order, so I expected it not to be spicy. They offered to make another without spice (see other photo) for me at no cost. While it was not what I expected initially, I appreciate that they rectified the situation swiftly. They remade the pad see eew for immediate pickup even though the kitchen was closing. I appreciate their service and their food is always good with good portions for the price. Highly recommend. Just make sure if you don't want your pad see eew spicy, you tell them up front.

I think this is my favorite Thai spot in Oakland. The fresh spring rolls were great, fresh light, delicious. I enjoyed both sauces they came with. They had a little bit of mint in them and it was fantastic. Chicken pad Thai extra spicy had a good bit of a kick too it. It was not overly sweet. Leaned a bit more into the sour. Only down side wasn't it didn't have a good wok smokey flavor. The tofu in it was awesome. Service was excellent. Will be back, and will bring friends. Thank you for a great meal.

Unassuming but charming place. Generally very quiet with Thai-themed designs. Food is solid. My Pad Kee Mao (with shrimp) was excellent. I asked for "relatively mild" and it was still quite spicy. I loved it but will ask for even less spicy next time.

    Mango sticky rice

Went to chao thai today with my son for an early lunch we sat outside since it was a nice day .I got the beef pad Thai and the mango sticky rice and my son got the fried rice and added chicken for Extra cost the service was good when we got there it was only us . The pad Thai was good I'll get it again next time my son seems to enjoy it more than his fried rice the water the nice lady gave us tasted off like soap and lemons other then that everything was okay:

We ordered tom yummy soup, crab fried rice, fresh spring rolls, and mango sticky rice. Everything was ok. My thai tea was more milk and sugar than tea and it was extremely sweet. The crab fried rice was delicious but a little too heavy on the garlic, every bite felt like it was overpowering the crab fried rice taste. We took one bite of the mango sticky rice and it was overly sweet, but good. The service was good, it's a small place so the waitress is able to see or hear you if you need anything. The ambiance is nice and because it's so small you can hear everyone's conversation even with everyone talking low. They should probably turn some music on to help.

The restaurant is just lovely, and in a great location. The service was excellent, everyone is very friendly. I've been to this spot before and usually enjoy the food, but this time it was just okay. The Satay Chicken was good, the Thai Iced Tea was great but the Pad Thai was lacking in flavor. I didn't enjoy it at all. I'm not opposed to returning, like I said I went here years ago and loved it. Maybe next time will be better.

This is the best Thai restaurant ever! Amazing food and great service. I love the presentation of the food and everything that I ordered was super tasty! Overall, this restaurant has exceeded my expectations and the food came out quickly. I absolutely love their thai iced tea and angel wings! Would definitely come back again!

Pad Thai lunch special combo and a Singha
    Marco C.

Chao Thai offers a fairly standard, if extensive, Thai menu, with a good supply of indoor seating and outdoor seating that is far enough removed from Grand & Lake streets that only the occasional crazy wanders in. Good lunch specials, although they are perhaps overly restrictive about changes on the lunch combos- I asked for a #3 (chicken pad Thai) with tofu instead of chicken and my request was denied, she said I could only order that ala carte. So I had the chicken of Thai. Maybe not the best Thai food in the area, I give it 3 1/2 stars, rounding up for good service and the outdoor seating option.

Can say this was a good stop. Walked in and it had that small family style feel to it. Quiet and initiate. Crab fried rice, spicy eggplant, green curry... all delicious. Finished it off with the mango sticky rice. Left no room for more. The waitress was super sweet too. -- I could always eat

Had a nice mid day meal at Chao Thai. It was a wonderful experience! We had the ginger salad, cashew chicken and special basil fried rice with chicken. All of it was yummy. The flavors were very distinctive and fresh. Service was friendly and attentive. Tons of veggie options!

The space is a little narrow in certain sections, but the decor gives it an authentic feel that sets it apart from those overly polished, generic spots. It feels like a place that actually respects the culture it's representing. We started with the Pad Brussels Sprouts, and honestly, that secret sauce and fried garlic combo is elite. Usually, sprouts are hit or miss, but these were savory, crisp, and gone in minutes. For the main, I locked in on the Khao Soi Short Rib over noodles. The meat was incredibly tender--no effort required--and the broth had that rich, deep flavor profile that you only get when a kitchen actually takes its time. The whole experience was smooth, and the food was top-tier without being pretentious. It's a solid, laid-back environment with authentic flavors that justify the visit every time. Definitely a five-star run.

I ended up going with their crispy papaya salad for my appetizer, the lamb shank curry, and ice cream for dessert. The crispy papaya salad was interesting since I had never had the dish prepared in that manner. It came with an excellent dipping sauce that provided some salt and acid to balance things out. The lamb curry was awesome! Hearty, meaty, with a flavorful and creamy base. The roti was also a great side which provided a nice buttery and fluffy touch to my main. My meal also came with coconut ice cream, but I passed that to my friends to avoid the dairy. I had a great time at Pintoh. Our servers were nice, the ambience and vibes were colorful and on point. Check them out if you're looking for some Thai food with a twist.

Years ago, I was turned off by this place's policies during the cooties insanity. I won't go into that in this review except to say that this was unfortunately one of many businesses that was duped into adopting very misguided policies by the powers that shouldn't be, and now that it's common knowledge just how erroneous those policies were, I hope those mistakes will not be repeated in the future. Nevertheless, when the hysteria finally subsided, I decided to give this place another shot. The restaurant is attractive and very colorful throughout. There is an outdoor patio reminiscent of a tiki place, and the interior is very nice as well. Thumping, upbeat, clubby music, which I love! Other places, please take note: more unce-unce like this, less downer pop. The menu is a little on the pricey side. Happy to see there are vegetarian and vegan options. On our last visit we went with the fresh vegan rolls - very good - and a vegetarian pad Thai. They accommodated our request for no egg and no tofu in the pad Thai, just veggies. Service was fine, could have been a bit friendlier. Will probably return again, I enjoyed the plant-based options and the upbeat music.

This is our go-to Restaurant, this year for Thanksgiving & Christmas both. Friends who joined us were impressed with the food & were very interested to know the name & location of this restaurant. Now my In-Laws like to order Take Out more often, and they always want to order Thai food! It used to be they wanted Indian food, which we love but truly had not found satisfactory in the past. I'm so glad because Thai Taste Kitchen doesn't disappoint! They have been impeccable about marking the containers & even packaging meat vs vegetarian items in separate bags, and they allow specifics like "no shrimp paste" or whatever, more of "this" or none of "that". White Rice included free with entrees thst are not noodle or rice based, and if you prefer individual instead of family style, you can add an appetizer to each entree individually for about $5-$6, which is about the same as splitting an appetizer order in half, but sometimes people prefer a different appetizer. I like to avoid fried foods, for example, but others love egg rolls or fried chicken (was that an appetizer or an entree?) Thai Iced Tea comes in one size only, and it's small, but consider the calories. This is probably best in small size & I was thoroughly satisfied, I had not indulged for many, many years and it was so delicious. If possible, get it with no ice so it doesn't melt on the way to your destination, you can add your own ice once you get there. Tbh, I started drinking it immediately & finished it in about 10 min, since my husband was driving. Treat yourselves & I think you'll be really glad you found this place. One caveat, they are short staffed so keep that in mind if you eat in the restaurant, I believe only one person is serving tables and may also handle the register, so it may require patience. The beauty of Take Out is we can set out a buffet, everyone grabs a plate & chooses ehat they like, and we can reheat warm items in the microwave in about a minute, and it tastes it's best hot.
