    Crispy Shrimp Rolls

Sheesh, I love Nua Thai so much. From the aesthetics, service, food, there's just much to love about this restaurant! Their spiciest hot sauce they make in house as well but caution, it is prettyyy spicy. The bone-in short rib Khao Soi is absolutely AMAZING, I can't get enough of it. The flavor is out of this world with such a bold & rich taste to it. The portions also are insanely generous! The crispy shrimp roll, duck larb & karaage chicken appetizers are a must try for your first time there!

If you're looking for the best Thai spot in Piedmont, then you have to stop by Nua Thai Kitchen. Out of the three Thai restaurants in the area, this one is hands down the cutest and most welcoming. The atmosphere is warm. The staff are the nicest and most attentive waitstaff, I've experienced in a long time. They offered thoughtful, spot-on recommendations. The server took the time to explain the cultural background behind the Crispy Rice Ball Salad (Nam Khao), which made the experience feel both personal and educational. You can tell they're proud of the cuisine and excited to share it. Most of the dishes highlight Southern Thai flavors, which is such a refreshing change. My only exposure to Thai food has been the typical Bangkok-style menu. If you've traveled to Bangkok, then this place will open your eyes to a whole new side of Thai cuisine. It's also a safe spot for anyone wanting to try new Thai dishes without feeling intimidated. The menu is approachable, well-balanced, and easy on the stomach. Five stars all the way. I

Duck larb, curry puff, Thai tea ( vegan milk) and sticky rice)
    Binh T.

We walked in at 6pm on a Sunday night, and got seated right away. We got the papaya salad, duck larb and curry puff. Our favorite was the duck larb, curry puff , then papaya salad. My friend loves the duck so much, that he ate most of it. I also got Thai ice tea with vegan milk. That's nice surprise, since I'm lactose intolerant. The services was great, and they kept checking on us every few minutes. We accidentally found this place by accident, because the original restaurant we wanted had a long wait time. But so glad we found this gem, because the whole experience here was wonderful. Would definitely recommend this spot.

This restaurant was a great find on Piedmont Ave. They feature both northern and southern Thai food, many dishes that you don't find at other Thai restaurants. Our favorite item we've had so far on the menu is the Sakoo appetizer. It is these mochi-like dumplings with a filling of peanuts and mushrooms. It is served with a lettuce wrap in individual leaf dishes for the perfect photo before you eat. The most recent time we visited they had a pork spare rib special that we loved as well. The dish was essentially a full rack of ribs that truly was fall-off-the-bone tender and was served with sticky rice and a sweet tamarind sauce. They offer wine and beer, including a Chinese craft jasmine tea lager. We loved the friendly staff and the lamps hanging from the ceiling are really neat with their wooden fish 'shade'. Good for couples or groups of 4, the dining room is not large so I'd recommend making a reservation or checking the Yelp waitlist before going on the weekend.

Thai samosas were tasty, fresh. I also tried their Thai ice tea and cashew tofu salad - both superb. Staff were friendly, swift as well. We were there for lunch, was straightforward to get seated right away. Finding parking around might take you time, so good to give yourself space for that. Food, comfortable ambiance, and fast service - all reasons to go back. Glad they are in the area.

Thai restaurant with good variety of Thai dishes and drinks. Food is a bit Americanized / fusion with OK portions. Service is friendly and quick. Atmosphere is good for groups, kids, seniors and meetups. Nice clean inside with beautiful decorations. Indoor seating only. Wide tables for kids and flat entry for accessibility. Paid street and parking lot available.

I visited to this location a while ago when it used to be pla daek - now it's still Thai, but more northern Thai ish? The duck larb was a bit more acidic than I was expecting, but went well with the sweet khao soi. I'm not as into the flavor profile overall, but I think they execute it well.

excellent... just excellent.. The vibes here are perfect! It's so cute and clean inside of the establishment and the people that work here are so attentive, kind, and helpful when it comes to ordering! It was a little bit of a wait for our food to come out, but we did end up ordering a bunch from the menu! The food came out piping hot and there was a good wait between appetizers and entrees. I would recommend getting the pad see ew, garlic noodles, tapioca dumplings, roti and curry appetizers. I really enjoyed the short rib soup dish they have. The meat fell right off the bone and it was so tender and paired well with a side of yellow curry and rice. I can't wait to come back!

    Summer Rolls
    David Y.

Great Thai food with large portions. I tried and recommend the summer rolls and the pad see ew, which I ordered with beef. The rolls are taste really fresh and come with two excellent sauces: a creamy peanut dip and a chili-lime mix that has just a bit of bite to it. Pro tip from my waitress: spoon a little of both onto each roll. The pad see ew comes with a fairly large portion of wide rice noodles, which are satisfyingly chewy and well-toasted. They add carrots, which I haven't seen before, and unceremoniously cram some salad on the edge of the plate, but it's otherwise a fantastic dish. Each table also gets a tray of three hot sauces to add. It's a nice place for a casual meal any day of the week.

This is a Thai style with Thai flavors tiramisu and it was absolutely delicious with that sauce on it

Time for dinner. It was nice to bring my wife and a friend of ours over for dinner. After seeing how much thought they put into the recipes the ingredients the preparation I couldn't resist coming back. They ate through everything with so much happiness. The colors are bright. the ingredients are fresh. There are authentic flavors from different parts of Thailand that make it unique to other restaurants like this. But the portions Are really generous. The staff I have to say that works there were wonderful and it was so nice to take a moment to chat and thank each employee there because they really love what they do. I will absolutely return again with my family and go over the menu and have something new every time I returned here. Beautiful experience.

Overpriced teriyaki mall type chicken LOL
    Jack R.

Newer isn't always better, and sometimes change isn't a good thing. I really liked Pla Daek the old restaurant that used to be here. In fact, I haven't been so sad in a restaurant closing for a long time. I felt like I was in mourning. Speaking of mourning, I was so dissapointed and heartbroken with this new place. The new menu and higher prices must be going to their remodel. Awful, and I do mean awful duck larb salad. Weird chewy yet bone filled duck that I couldn't eat. It just sat on my plate while I ate their sour tasting salad and thought about the japanese place across the street. I didn't even bother with the mango sticky rice because I felt it would be a disappointment, and a hit to my wallet. Like multiple punches from Tyson. My friend's teriyaki chicken thing tasted like the one you get at the mall. You know the one where they chase you down and try to give you a small sample of chicken on a toothpick? Yeah, that's the one that serve here as Thai food at triple the price with some fried rice and sauce. I'm sure they're laughing at us in the back with the crazy mark up. I can't vouch for this place. The food is meh and expensive and not at all memorable for the right reasons.

We all split all the specialty cocktails and I got the Khao Pad Kang Kiew (rice with eggplant and chicken topped with a fried egg). Dishes are $20-23 ish each. We were seated at the 6 person table in the back of the restaurant near the bathroom. My favorite drinks were their take on a hard thai iced tea, the lavender mojito, a take on an espresso martini. There was also this spicy drink that had thai chilis in it that is VERY spicy lol. Pros: - the rice dish was DELICIOUS and also huge haha. Came with cucumbers to cut the peppery flavor if needed. - All the cocktails were pretty different and it was fun to try all of them. They were all beautiful to look at and tasty (lots of coconut and Thai inspiration). - Service was pretty good - Has "typical" thai dishes like pad thai and pad see ew, and also more rare ones that are hard to find - Close to many bars and other establishments, so perfect if you want to eat here as a first, second, or third location of your outing haha Cons: - The air flow in the back wasn't amazing so I did feel like it got stuffy/hot - Parking can be tough in this area so I recommend BARTing Another reason to love Oakland!

Unfortunately it was too spicy for my liking and some of the white rice was burnt from the being at the bottom of the pot. I was really craving the sweet, earthy flavor of eggplant so while lots of protein was greatly appreciated I did wish there was more eggplant in the dish. But it was not full throughout the time we were at the restaurants. Experience: Food came out pretty fast and it was hot(!). Overall, service was good and they checked in on us a few times to make sure all is good. Food: - Nam Khao was fantastic. Crispy rice, the mixed minced vegetables, and the cooked sausage. Together with the lime that you can squeeze to preference, it was delicious! Haven't had Nam Khao this delicious in a while! - Pad See Ew with pork was alright. It was cooked well and a little on the sweeter side rather than savory, but missing the smoky flavor "wok hei" that would take this to the next level that I love. - Fried Sweet Fish was alright too. Fish is fried with a very thin batter but it had black pepper which my kids doesn't want as they're sensitive to anything spicy. The fish had a light fishy taste to it (fresh water fish) which would be better if they even use a little ginger to cut the fishy taste for a better taste. - Guay Tiew is very similar to Pad See Ew with the exception that it had a fried egg on the top and had seafood (shrimp and squid). - Vientiane Crispy Roll is different from regular egg rolls. Made with rice paper roll so it was crispy but also chewy, which is different and may not be what everyone is used to. Will return to try out other dishes.

Do you like the funk?…read more Our server explained to us the Lao version is more funky and fermented, while the Thai version is more mellow. We went with the Lao version. The Thai iced coffee was delicious and strong! As it should be. It did give me the jitters though because I'm a weak sauce. We were a party of ten and I was able to make rezzies via phone for a Friday evening at 6:30pm no problem about a week beforehand. The kiddos ordered à la carte, and five of us adults had the following: - BMV ultimate papaya platter with Lao sausage, angel wings and crispy pork. Crispy pork was legit, papaya salad definitely had that extra funk. The angel wings were crispy and meaty and my friends loved the Lao sausage. One even said "it's like tom yum soup in a sausage". It was very lemongrass forward which is not my thing, but that's my problem. I feel we could have ordered à la carte and that would have been a better deal than $75 for the platter. Some of it was fluff like the cabbage, rice and pork rinds. - Khao soy soup: Fiancé thought it would be creamy and coconut-y like the Thai version but it wasn't. I did enjoy the flat noodles but they were all stuck together. - Pia pla ka pow (fish with basil): Good one. The fish was moist and flavorful. The veggies were al dente and delicious too. - Sakoo: Unique! I enjoyed the chewy mochi exterior and the savory ground pork filling. It needed a sauce. I just used the chili sauce that was on the party platter. - Laab Gai: This fell flat for me. I'm not a huge fan of organs though. - Nam khao fried rice: One of our favorites! The crispy pieces really made this dish. Would definitely order this again. - Mango sticky rice: Served warm. Very sweet mango! - Purple rice with egg custard: Also served warm. This was ok. - Side of rice: HUGE serving! Unfortunately it was clumpy and hard, which means old. Street parking only. Get the nam khao and mango sticky rice!

Tbh, I started drinking it immediately & finished it in about 10 min, since my husband was driving. Treat yourselves & I think you'll be really glad you found this place. One caveat, they are short staffed so keep that in mind if you eat in the restaurant, I believe only one person is serving tables and may also handle the register, so it may require patience. The beauty of Take Out is we can set out a buffet, everyone grabs a plate & chooses ehat they like, and we can reheat warm items in the microwave in about a minute, and it tastes it's best hot.

My friend told me great things about this place and it definitely lived up to the hype. The inside…read moreis pretty small and cozy. Despite being quite packed, the servers were attentive for ordering and the food came very quickly. We ordered so many dishes for a great price and everything was packed with flavor. The spicy fish was one of my favorites, and the tom kha was incredibly rich and flavorful. The pork was also super tender. The sampler was probably the standout of the meal; I loved the crispy rice and the cooked sausage in particular. We also tried the angel wings, which were unique. I'd definitely come back to try even more of the menu!

My friends and I stopped by on a Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. looking for a table for four and the…read morewait was around 45 minutes. Between the four of us, we shared a variety of dishes, including their Champa Wings, Nam Kaow, Lao Sausages, Yum Nom Tok, Champa's Fried Rice and Pad Thai. Of these dishes, my favorite was easily the Nam Kaow. This dish had so many layers of flavors and textures. I could honestly eat a whole plate of this myself and be satisfied. Every grain of crispy rice was fried to perfection and there was a wonderful sour and spicy tang throughout each bite. The other dish I really enjoyed was the Lao sausages. These sausages are packed with so many different herbs and spices. The lemongrass flavor was especially prominent. Like the Nam Kaow, this dish also went really well with the fresh mint and lettuce that's provided on the table. There's a good reason why this unassuming Thai and Lao neighborhood restaurant has a line out the door: the food is absolutely delicious. Definitely one of my favorite meals I've had in 2026 -- I can't wait to stop by again.
