I ordered the beef banh mi sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious! The meat was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor, and they didn't skimp on the portion. Be aware--the sandwich comes with a lot of jalapeños, which was pretty spicy for me. I paired it with coconut water, which was super refreshing and ice-cold. The atmosphere is nice, and I love the new location. They even have a robot that brings your food, which is a fun touch. The staff was amazing, with great customer service. Definitely a spot I'd return to!

Happy to have gotten the opportunity to try Monster Pho for the first time! We ordered to go since it was new years! (Called to make sure they were open). We ordered the monster vermicelli combo (bun dac biet) and chicken pho. Everything was delicious! I really enjoyed the soup base for the chicken pho and the shrimp for the combo. Price is a bit more than typical, but I expected it!

Was looking for a good bowl of soup and had been to Monster Pho in the past. Decided to give it a try and found that they had relocated to 40th Street. Food options range from pho soups, rice/vermicelli plates, salads with drink choices ranging from craft draft beers to coffee/teas/juices and a few dessert options. We chose the regular sized chicken pho soup and the rice plate with chicken and settled for just water to drink. Both dishes were good and hit the spot. Overall service was also great.

Super festive holiday themed decor and a wonderful toy drive for the community. Always good pho here and the weekend angus beef special was superb. Huge hunk of beef cooked so well the meat fell off the bone. The noodles and broth were also delicious. Nice beer and wine options. There's a hazy monster IPA beer collab that you can pick up in a 4 pack also. Cute toy and candy vending machines for the kiddos to play with as an incentive to behave and eat their meals. The pandan waffle was super fresh, fluffy yet dense, and delicious with the whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Tee, the owner, is so gracious and down to earth. Doing a lot for the community and giving back. Felt good to support a local small business that is doing big things to help others in times of need. And it was a filling meal and both my kids ate all their food which is always a win win!

I've lived in Oakland my whole life and I've never been here for whatever reason. It's hard to find parking cuz it's only street parking and there's a lot of people picking up to go that's double parking around. The inside when you first walk in reminds me of an arcade cuz there's a few "gumball" machines and a Photo Booth with a lot of different lights and colors catching your attention. Put your name and number of people down on a sign in board and wait to be seated. T introduced himself to me right away, super nice guy. As soon as we got our table, we got water and you order from the QR code that's on the table. Since it was my first time here, I got the Monster Pho Combo and it was delicious. It was a rainy night so the soup dish hit the spot. You can tell the broth has been cooking all day, it was flavorful and the meat was tender. I personally like to add hoisin and sirarcha sauce to my pho but after I get a sip of the broth as is. My friend ordered their beef vermicelli and it looked so good. My friend said their grilled beef is one of her favorite things there so she will usually get something will grilled beef on it and I believe it. Coming back to try the rest of their menu. The banh mi sandwiches look good.

Monster Pho is a reliable place to get some traditional Vietnamese eats. They used to be located a couple blocks over on Broadway between 39th and 40th. The quality of their food has been consistently good. They've also started the Monter Pho Foundation where they've been doing community/charitable work/charitable giving, which I think is just as important as their food. - During COVID they partnered with World Culture Kitchen, and offered free meals to whomever asked for it, no questions asked. - They're doing the same thing currently as people are feeling unsecure with their SNAP and health care benefits. I've had equally good experiences with both their takeout and dine-in experiences, their team provides good service. Their current restaurant space is larger than the last one and has fun decorations, also robots that bring trays to tables. There are a lot of great Vietnamese places in Oakland, Monster Pho is in my top 2 or 3. I support local businesses that support the local community, so please support Monster Pho!

Sometimes you just want to dine somewhere dependable and good, and Monster Pho is just that. When we came here on a Sunday afternoon, we sat outside, as it was pretty busy inside. The tables were clean, service was quick (QR code menu, order and pay on your phone; few minutes later, the server brings your food, piping hot!) It was such an easy, pleasant dining experience. I usually like their beef pho, but everything here is decent. Great place for a quick casual lunch.

I always enjoy coming here. Inside it's decorated, fun, and colorful. There's a skittles machine and a Pokemon card machine right near the entrance lol among other things. Constantly tempted to buy a Pokémon card and live out my childhood dreams lol. I love the nostalgic vending machine vibes! I like the pho here - beef and chicken are both quite good! The employees/service is always very friendly and quick. I also know they give back to the community - I've been to other events here where they provide free pho, no questions asked! Amazing. The owner is sweet, and it's authentic food I think using his mom's recipes (from Vietnam!). I love the Monster logo and generally the merch lol it always tempts me when I come here! I've also come here when they had like Thursday nights live music, it's always a good vibe! Recently I came on a Sunday afternoon with a friend. They were actually busy inside - they have limited seating! We were starving so we settled for outdoor seating, the patio is a great option too! We could order and pay on our phones via QR code so it was super convenient especially to do separate tabs. Overall I love coming here for my pho fix, come through and support these good people!

I was wandering around with some friends looking for the closest Pho spot we could find, and stumbled onto this spot. Decent street parking along the block, you shouldn't have to walk more than 10 minutes to it. You sit yourself, and are greeted with friendly service. I was surprised to see that this location has a robot server that brings you your order and even waters. It's a fun thing to watch if it's new to you; however, the servers tend to tables as well, so it's not guaranteed that you get the robot server. Let's get to the soup now; I was served a beautiful bowl of pho, with a perfect amount of thinly sliced onions, plenty of good quality meat, and strong broth. A pet peeve of mine is when you can tell the meat has been frozen for a while beforehand (making it tough and chewy), and I am happy to report that I did not have to experience that here! If I were to make one critique, it would be about the number of green onions. It was just enough to get me by, and it is truly not a big deal. I am just a green onion lover and can never get enough. Overall, great solid bowl of pho!

The staff is extremely friendly and will regularly check in on you. It felt very homey and welcoming in terms of service. I ordered the beef banh mi and would come back to order it again - I thought the portions were generous, it felt like I received 2 banh mi's! There's plenty of seating as well and you can find their logo on mainly everything around the restaurant, which I got a good kick out of.

Craved viet food so we DoorDash it this time! We shared beef banh mi and monster vermicelli combo! Banh mi bread was soft, crunchy and sandwiched itself was flavorful. Monster vermicelli had a good amount of toppings.

Found this place on yelp and decided to try it. There's street parking all over. I walked in it's a unique little restaurant they had a lot of cool things. I placed 2 bahmi sandwiches to go . I thought it was a little pricey my order took 10 minutes. When I got the sandwich I understood the price. It's literally like 2 sandwiches and all the veggies were fresh. The chicken was well cooked and very well seasoned. The bread was soft. It was a very good bahmi sandwich I would definitely return.

We've known about Monster Pho for a while and wanted to check out the new location, which I love. The branded atmosphere and decorations of this place are what make it so unique. You order online through a QR code, then the food is brought to you...by a robot! Relatively quickly too. The Vegetable Bowl was very flavorful. I particularly loved the noodles and broth, and the rest of the toppings are very fresh. Very big portions too. Only downside was that prices are pretty steep for Vietnamese though. I will be back regardless!

Fresh Spring Rolls, this one has chicken. Shrimp is our favorite.

With my luck, my car would smell like hello kitty for weeks. Anyhow, I found Mẹ Và Con on yelp, a mother-daughter owned resto that opened in 2024. They serve bánh khọt and have outdoor seating so we headed over. Thankfully, we arrived before the Sunday dinner rush (~5:45 pm) and before the parking lot was filled. Rezzies are accepted (via phone). M E N U Viet Cuisine with some elevated, modern twists (no specific regional specialty). Smaller menu than your typical hole-in-the-wall with 25-30 items including AZN fusion items like shrimp ceviche, kimchi pasta and tom yum pasta. Beer, wine, and soju cocktails available. F O O D * Bò Tái Chanh: Beef Carpaccio w/ Thai basil, fried shallot, house tangerine sauce ($18): https://tinyurl.com/nhcn9kxw - Served at dinner only Fresh, tender slices of beef carpaccio with a sweetness from the tangerine sauce and white onions. I appreciate their twist (tangerine sauce instead of nước chấm) but it was too one note for me...IMO, it needed acid and herbs. Plus, I miss the texture of peanuts. * Bánh Khọt: Viet Mini Pancakes w/ shrimp, coconut milk batter, herbs, pickles ($24): https://tinyurl.com/34nx7sat - Served at dinner only Fav dish of the night, the savory bánh khọt was delicately crispy and slightly custardy in the center with a snappy shrimp drizzled with fragrant scallion oil. It came with romaine, mint, and perilla leaves neatly layered for easy wrapping. The lettuce was a bit soft and soggy tho, and I think they forgot the pickled veggies. Served with a tiny portion of tangy sweet nước chấm. * Bò Lúc Lắc: Shaking Beef w/ soy, garlic, onion, cherry tomato, arugula ($26): https://tinyurl.com/3rkpukct Meltingly tender cubes of filet mignon but light on the seasoning and aromatics so it was bland. Also, was hoping for more smoky wok hei flavor. * Thịt Kho Tàu: Braised Pork Belly w/ hard boiled eggs, rice ($21): https://tinyurl.com/mr2evryw - Includes bowl of rice A traditional dish served during Lunar New Year, it symbolizes prosperity, warmth, and stability. Chunks of pork belly are caramelized in sugar and braised in coconut soda and fish sauce - rich, savory with a good ratio of lean meat to fat (4 pieces). Wish they used more braising liquid when warming up, as some pieces were a bit dry. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly hospitality. Food does take awhile tho...our first dish took about 30 minutes to arrive. A M B I A N C E Casual, no-frills indoor area with about 10-12 tables. Then occasionally, sip the soup to wash everything down. 2. Beef Stew Ho Fun - My boyfriend's must have. Flavorful, soft meat, delicious. 3. Fish Cakes - Personally, I don't care for fish cakes, but my boyfriend and his family order it all the time, so of course I'll still eat it. It's still good. This is one of those restaurants where you go and eat what they're known for, not wander off too far away from the menu because the other stuff is just legit filler items. I loved the savory take on each, and since they're rarer finds, I was glad that Tay Ho had them on the menu. Also notable is that even though we came early, there were already a substantial amount of diners and the place was busy, which is a good sign this place delivers the goods. As a local, I've grown up walking 5 minutes to this spot my whole life for over 25 years. I can say…read morethat it is the best authentic vietnamese banh mi in the east bay as I've tried many other spots that haven't particularly matched or exceeded their level of quality. I usually order a #2, #7, and #13. It's very affordable, especially if you're on a strict budget for lunch. $7 sandwiches? I mean it's a pretty good deal. #2 Banh Mi Dac Biet/Special Combo Ham Sandwich - If you're looking for a cold italian sandwich but want to explore new options this is a vietnamese version that also has pate butter taking it to the next level. #7 Banh Mi Xiu Mai/Meat Ball & Egg Sandwich - An elevated version of the #3 with an added egg. This was my absolute favorite as a child and still is now. Nice balance of sweet and salty. The meat is tender and with the added egg yolk that pops when you take a bite takes it the next level. I think this is also slept on since I don't see many people ordering it. #13 Banh Mi Xa Xiu/BBQ Pork Sandwich - This is their secret weapon. My god the sweetness from the bbq pork with the pate butter is incredible. I always look forward to eating the bottom end of the sandwich because that's where most of the flavor and butter are hiding. The pickled veggies help give it the acidity it needs for a well balanced bite. By far my favorite. They also have many other options besides banh mi that make and sell on the day of like Banh Cuon, Che, Egg rolls, etc. Definitely give those a try especially the Mochi Ham sandwich aka Banh Day they got there too. I always have a hard time choosing between the #7 & # 13 so I always end up getting both. Service is straight forward, you line up, order, and wait for them to call you up for your order. Simple. You don't have to ask me twice if I want to grab some banh mi here. But do be aware that at certain hours of the day it can get very busy and crowded. Either to super early when opening or closer to closing about an hour before. For new comers, I highly recommend starting off with #7 or #13 for your introduction to their banh mi for a better first time experience.

I'm Shocked at the quality of their ban mi. As of…read more6/10/2026, it costs $8.50 each. That's not the issue; everything is up now! The sandwich was really skimpy. The ratio of bread to meat to pickled vegetables was not great. The pate, which I usually love, was also off and had an unusually strong unpleasant smell. The only thing that made the sandwich edible was the bread itself. It was fresh light and airy as I remember it to be. I hope they will focus and maintain quality in the future. I regretted spending $65 there for food I was afraid to feed my family.
