Beef and mushroom porridge with a Mayer lemon and honey spritzer
    Alexa W.

Yay, I made it! :-D And 3 Bottled Fish delivered! I drove by today at around 1:30 and saw it was open, so I turned around as fast as possible. Now I also know the opening hours (Wed through Sat 11 to 2) and I am sure I will make it many more times, even though I'm a late luncher. The menu today featured a pork belly and jelly banh mi as well as a savory porridge with beef and mushrooms among other things. I chose the latter plus a Meyer lemon and honey spritzer. Since I had to skedaddle, I took everything to go. But I really wanted to stay, the ambience was so cute and friendly. There was a tiny karaoke party going on and a nice lady in the corner told me about her food choices. The chef was friendly and reasonably fast, the price was ok, the food phenomenal. This is what a neighborhood joint is all about, folks. I don't want to sound tooooo gluttonous, but if there are banh mi AND porridge on the menu next time, I'll just get both! The porridge was So.Good. Layered flavors, some chili, nice textures, little slices of ginger. Man, I want more now, just thinking about it. Yes, I will be back.

3 Bottled Fish has been a Viet pop up vendor for years. This is the 3rd time for me and it was a "charm". Opened where Orbit coffee was. Menu changes slightly every week. Disappointed i missed Bun Rieu, Bun Bo Hue. 2ish tables inside for dining. Flatscreen showing drama. Minimal decor. Ordered at counter, pay, food came out in 5ish minutes. Offerings: banh mi, Eastside noodles, sunset spritzer. Eats: Eastside noodle aka Bun Tit Nuong (14) -sliced house made sausage, slightly chewy, with carrots, greens, bean sprouts, sliced cucumbers, peanuts atop rice vermicelli noodles. -Poured the sweet tasting nuoc cham over the dish, mixed it up, tasted deliz & authentic.. Drink: ca phe sua da (Vietnamese coffee, 7) -tasted like the usual cold Viet coffee, nothing special. Did taste smoother than usual. 4.5 stars. Would repeat to try shaking beef, the buns. 1st time for bun tit nuong, impressed. *entrees are made in limited qualities. Can sell out...

I normally get a coffee and a sandwich, and this week, the pork belly sandwich sounds delicious. However, I saw shaking beef on the menu and I dropped everything this morning to go get one. I don't usually write more than 2 reviews (1 initially and 1 update) per place I go to, but this is an exception because the shaking beef was so good. I also had to share a photo of it. The beef is perfectly seasoned and seared, not too salty and not bland at all. Eat it right away while it's hot and fresh off the grill, the beef melts in your mouth. The use of broken rice and a perfect crispy on the outside while runny on the inside over medium cooked egg gave it a real authentic Vietnamese feel. Please come and get some. The portion size is just right for lunch.

I'm glad that I discovered this place for lunch before work. Paulette is a one-person show. It is amazing to watch how she handles a full house during a busy lunchtime. She put passion into her cooking with traditional Vietnamese receipts passed down from her grandmother and mother. She sold out on her BBH on this particular day.

Cute owner operated neighborhood cafe serving up Vietnamese dishes and coffee. Can tell food is made with love - packed with flavor, yet clean and balanced. Don't miss out on the at the beach noodles - definitely will come back for this. Loved the addition of coconut milk in this dish - making an amazing partnership between savory and sweet. I asked them to throw in some jalapeños because i love a little kick! Vietnamese coffee is how I like it - strong espresso and not overly sweet. Great lunch spot if you're in the neighborhood! I will be back to try the rest of their menu.

What a wonderful little place for a daughter and dad date! We had a great time and enjoyed a small book that was in the library that explained what your color was in relationship to your birthdate. There's only one person in this luncheonette, so be patient because that individual has to wear a lot of hats.

Do yourself a favor and Get This FOOD! I've had beef noodle soup (Bun Bo Hue) and Big Market Banh Mi and they were both so tasty and succulent. And the Viet Iced Coffee is BOMB. I drive out from Pleasant Hill just for that! The staff makes everything with care, and it's worth it!

I love the food! Been following 3 Bottled Fish since their start at the farmer's market. They take their time with the food, well worth the wait. My favorite is the Big Market Banh Mi, and At the Beach noodles.

With my luck, my car would smell like hello kitty for weeks. Anyhow, I found Mẹ Và Con on yelp, a mother-daughter owned resto that opened in 2024. They serve bánh khọt and have outdoor seating so we headed over. Thankfully, we arrived before the Sunday dinner rush (~5:45 pm) and before the parking lot was filled. Rezzies are accepted (via phone). M E N U Viet Cuisine with some elevated, modern twists (no specific regional specialty). Smaller menu than your typical hole-in-the-wall with 25-30 items including AZN fusion items like shrimp ceviche, kimchi pasta and tom yum pasta. Beer, wine, and soju cocktails available. F O O D * Bò Tái Chanh: Beef Carpaccio w/ Thai basil, fried shallot, house tangerine sauce ($18): https://tinyurl.com/nhcn9kxw - Served at dinner only Fresh, tender slices of beef carpaccio with a sweetness from the tangerine sauce and white onions. I appreciate their twist (tangerine sauce instead of nước chấm) but it was too one note for me...IMO, it needed acid and herbs. Plus, I miss the texture of peanuts. * Bánh Khọt: Viet Mini Pancakes w/ shrimp, coconut milk batter, herbs, pickles ($24): https://tinyurl.com/34nx7sat - Served at dinner only Fav dish of the night, the savory bánh khọt was delicately crispy and slightly custardy in the center with a snappy shrimp drizzled with fragrant scallion oil. It came with romaine, mint, and perilla leaves neatly layered for easy wrapping. The lettuce was a bit soft and soggy tho, and I think they forgot the pickled veggies. Served with a tiny portion of tangy sweet nước chấm. * Bò Lúc Lắc: Shaking Beef w/ soy, garlic, onion, cherry tomato, arugula ($26): https://tinyurl.com/3rkpukct Meltingly tender cubes of filet mignon but light on the seasoning and aromatics so it was bland. Also, was hoping for more smoky wok hei flavor. * Thịt Kho Tàu: Braised Pork Belly w/ hard boiled eggs, rice ($21): https://tinyurl.com/mr2evryw - Includes bowl of rice A traditional dish served during Lunar New Year, it symbolizes prosperity, warmth, and stability. Chunks of pork belly are caramelized in sugar and braised in coconut soda and fish sauce - rich, savory with a good ratio of lean meat to fat (4 pieces). Wish they used more braising liquid when warming up, as some pieces were a bit dry. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly hospitality. Food does take awhile tho...our first dish took about 30 minutes to arrive. A M B I A N C E Casual, no-frills indoor area with about 10-12 tables. Cute covered patio in the parking lot with 5 tables and fairy lights. Overall, Mẹ Và Con is a great place to introduce people that are new to Viet cuisine and/or you're looking for Viet dishes with different twist.

We ordered the tofu bahn mi, tofu, veggies and mushroom vermicelli and Vietnamese pancake with shrimp. They were all amazing. The tofu in the banh mi was stirred fried w/ mushrooms not fried like how I'm used to. So it was a little different but very tasty. My fiancé had the vermicelli bowl which he said was pretty good with all the stirred fried tofu, veggies and mushrooms. What was surprising the most was the Vietnamese pancake. It was so good that I would come back for just this appetizer. It has a crunchy texture on the outside, but the inside was so creamy. Wrap that with a lettuce and dip in the fish sauce and wow! My mouth was happy. Service here is top notch! The server was super attentive and he knew just when we needed more napkins and more water. Would definitely recommend and will be back soon for those pancake!

This is a fast place, table sharing, no room having place. If you're looking for a western style dining, it can become overwhelming. But, just embrace the speed and efficiency of this restaurant. Because once you are seated, you're served immediately to get you on the way. With service, don't expect tier 1 experience, but you'll get your water/tea. Savor it, don't assume they'll come back while you're still eating. Just saying! There's a few things on the menu that are must have.. 1. Chow Jew Ho Fun with soup on the side - the obvious that everyone orders. I like to get soup on the side, and then put about two tablespoons soup back into my noodle and add all the sauces! Then occasionally, sip the soup to wash everything down. 2. Beef Stew Ho Fun - My boyfriend's must have. Flavorful, soft meat, delicious. 3. Fish Cakes - Personally, I don't care for fish cakes, but my boyfriend and his family order it all the time, so of course I'll still eat it. It's still good. I'm just a person who feels I can buy it from the banh mi shops and it taste the same. Lol I don't eat anything else here. This is one of those restaurants where you go and eat what they're known for, not wander off too far away from the menu because the other stuff is just legit filler items. The only problem I have is, it's so expensive now for a small bowl. So it makes me not want to come back, but at the same time, flavors are really good. You just would think with the amount of customers, the business thriving, you could at least keep the portion size the same as before..

I loved the savory take on each, and since they're rarer finds, I was glad that Tay Ho had them on the menu. Also notable is that even though we came early, there were already a substantial amount of diners and the place was busy, which is a good sign this place delivers the goods. I usually order a #2, #7, and #13. It's very affordable, especially if you're on a strict budget for lunch. $7 sandwiches? I mean it's a pretty good deal. #2 Banh Mi Dac Biet/Special Combo Ham Sandwich - If you're looking for a cold italian sandwich but want to explore new options this is a vietnamese version that also has pate butter taking it to the next level. #7 Banh Mi Xiu Mai/Meat Ball & Egg Sandwich - An elevated version of the #3 with an added egg. This was my absolute favorite as a child and still is now. Nice balance of sweet and salty. The meat is tender and with the added egg yolk that pops when you take a bite takes it the next level. I think this is also slept on since I don't see many people ordering it. #13 Banh Mi Xa Xiu/BBQ Pork Sandwich - This is their secret weapon. My god the sweetness from the bbq pork with the pate butter is incredible. I always look forward to eating the bottom end of the sandwich because that's where most of the flavor and butter are hiding.
