Was very excited to try this spot after seeing it in the SF Chronicle. We came around 1pm as a party of 5 and we were only able to get 1 of each item on the menu as that's all that was left. We ordered 3 drinks: viet iced coffee, viet coffee with a cream top, and the lotus tea. For $6-$7, this was extremely overpriced. We got a small plastic cup of coffee with mostly ice. The coffee itself was fine, but the cream top was over salted and the lotus tea was just a big miss. This is a 1 person run spot, but we did get our food relatively quickly. The pho had good flavor and tender meat, but the noodles were very overcooked and kept breaking. The pork banh mi was good, quite small, but flavorful with crunchy bread. The salmon belly rice was fine, very fatty salmon but tasted just as you would expect. We ordered the Cajun shrimp banh mi as well, which I've never had a combo like this before, but it was fine, nothing crazy. We didn't feel too welcomed here as we didn't feel any friendliness, but just felt like we were ordering too much food. Wasn't worth it for us so we likely won't be back. read more

Saw someone recommend this place on Reddit- such a cute hole in the wall place. Street parking on a busy street- could park like a block away in the residential streets for ease~ Service - super friendly and was a 1 person show, they did great! The menu seems to change so it makes sense I couldn't find a menu online - so I'd be excited to see what other items they have~ I got the beef congee- it was such a refreshing take with the lemon! The beef was very flavorful and the cohesiveness was on point for me. My partner got the steak and eggs banh mi. The bread was crunchy but soft on the inside. Yay, I made it! :-D And 3 Bottled Fish delivered! I drove by today at around 1:30 and saw it was open, so I turned around as fast as possible. Now I also know the opening hours (Wed through Sat 11 to 2) and I am sure I will make it many more times, even though I'm a late luncher. The menu today featured a pork belly and jelly banh mi as well as a savory porridge with beef and mushrooms among other things. I chose the latter plus a Meyer lemon and honey spritzer. Since I had to skedaddle, I took everything to go. But I really wanted to stay, the ambience was so cute and friendly. There was a tiny karaoke party going on and a nice lady in the corner told me about her food choices. The chef was friendly and reasonably fast, the price was ok, the food phenomenal. This is what a neighborhood joint is all about, folks. I don't want to sound tooooo gluttonous, but if there are banh mi AND porridge on the menu next time, I'll just get both! I normally get a coffee and a sandwich, and this week, the pork belly sandwich sounds delicious. However, I saw shaking beef on the menu and I dropped everything this morning to go get one. I don't usually write more than 2 reviews (1 initially and 1 update) per place I go to, but this is an exception because the shaking beef was so good. I also had to share a photo of it. The beef is perfectly seasoned and seared, not too salty and not bland at all. Eat it right away while it's hot and fresh off the grill, the beef melts in your mouth. The use of broken rice and a perfect crispy on the outside while runny on the inside over medium cooked egg gave it a real authentic Vietnamese feel. Please come and get some. Ordered a $16.00 pate chicken banh mi. Very average and the sandwich was skinny . Not worth at all. I could've gotten 2 banh mis at another spot for the price they charge here. We walked in and immediately felt the blanket of fish sauce smell in the place. My kid really didn't like it and he wanted fresh air. He stood by the door and held it open but the owner said the flies would come in so we closed it. The seats and tables were all full. It is pretty small inside - like 2 spots for a total of 2-6 people to sit and eat. There is a chair on the other side but more like for drinking coffee and looking out the window. We didnt end up staying and ordering because the menu rotates and they werent serving anything my kid wanted. So we just left! I'm glad that I discovered this place for lunch before work. Paulette is a one-person show. It is amazing to watch how she handles a full house during a busy lunchtime. Cute owner operated neighborhood cafe serving up Vietnamese dishes and coffee. Can tell food is made with love - packed with flavor, yet clean and balanced. Don't miss out on the at the beach noodles - definitely will come back for this. Loved the addition of coconut milk in this dish - making an amazing partnership between savory and sweet. What a wonderful little place for a daughter and dad date! We had a great time and enjoyed a small book that was in the library that explained what your color was in relationship to your birthdate. Went here for lunch. Nice place on the inside with good seating. What blew me away was the food. Had the vermicelli bowl with homemade pork sausage. I lived in San Jose and worked in East San Jose and this was the best vermicelli bowl I've had in the bay. Whatever they did to make that homemade sausage as good as it was I dunno, but I plan on eating here on a regular basis. The Vietnamese coffee is also better than anything you'll find in the town. To top it off the chef is super nice and delivers great service. If you're nervous coming here in Fruitvale don't be. It's a nice little street with plenty of parking. I've been going to 3 Bottled Fish's stand at Stonestown for almost 7 years, so I had to check out their first-ever brick-and-mortar in Oakland. Paulette immediately recognized me as soon as I walked through the door and thanked me for crossing the bridge to visit her place. It's a tiny storefront in a mostly residential neighborhood with a tire place on the corner. It's a really cute and welcoming space with embroidered sampler artwork on the walls. I purchased three banh mis, three shaking beef rice plates, and three viet iced coffees for me, my daughter, and her roommate. All of it was [chef's kiss]. As a Viet who lives in SF, I'm always on the lookout for Viet cuisine that doesn't require a drive to San Jose (which is where most of the Viet diaspora lives).
