This restaurant was the first Thai place I had gone to since coming back from Thailand in February and I'm so happy it lived up to expectations. It's located in a large building and very spacious outside in terms of parking as well as on the inside. I made a reservation since I was coming from the Hayward area and was worried about seating but the waiter was able to sit me right away about 15 minutes earlier since it was a Monday evening as the restaurant was at 50% capacity. My friend and I got the specials - the Nam Khao Tod and the Lobster Tail Pad Thai. My friend took hers home and really liked it while I completely devoured my pad thai whole. The lobster meat was a little tougher than I liked it to be but the flavor was there and so so delicious! It was a perfect blend of soy & fish sauces that I missed. Next time I get this I'll definitely ask for it to be spicier since that's the only element it missed. After having delicious Thai food from the source, I was worried eating out anywhere in the Bay as no place could compare but I'm so glad Bangkok by the Bay was as delicious & authentic as it was. My daughter made a reservation for 10. Upon arrival, our table was set for our party. The restaurant is tucked away from the chaos and is nice and cozy. The tables and chairs are comfortable. Parking was easy this evening. (I heard lunch time can get crazy looking for parking), We ordered a few different entrees - satay chicken, dumplings, tom kha, pad thai, short rib masamun , braised pork and of course the mango sticky rice. Simply Quality! Whenever I see Organic Tofu that's my dish as it's clean and tastes perfect. Of course it also has to be cooked right which the Chef did for sure. I had the green curry with the kombucha pumpkin, two different types of cauliflower, and zucchini that actually had flavor. The food here is absolutely delicious in every way. It is plated so artistically and the presentation is so beautiful. We had heard a lot about this place and it definitely lives up to the glowing descriptions. We had several dishes and each one was something to marvel at. They tasted as good as they looked. My favorite was the roti appetizer with curry dip. I had never had it before but it was recommended to me and I can't say enough good things about it! Had a lovely dinner at this beautifully decorated and nicely spacious restaurant. We made use of their happy hour specials (M-F from 5-6pm), including the pau pia (crispy rolls), curry puffs, moo-ping (pork skewers), and roti + yellow curry potato dip, accompanied by our refreshing Bang Mods (aperol + prosecco). The specials were enjoyable, although nothing really stood out. We plan to return to try more of their mains--we only had the duck curry, which was the best thing we had; just the right amount of medium spice, duck meat, and veggies, all in proportion. Came for lunch on a weekday since I work close by. I got the pad see ew with shrimp, and my colleague got the pad thai. The food came out in about 5 minutes. I really enjoyed my dish, although it started getting a little too salty at the end. But we liked our meals. The only gripe I have is the prices for the dishes are a bit pricey than you would have at other places. There are plenty of parking spots on front of the restaurant, and on the curbside as well. Bangkok by the Bay was an excellent experience with wonderful service, delicious Thai cuisine, and the atmosphere was warm and decorated nicely. The restaurant is hidden from any main street and in a building that's across from a preschool or elementary school. There was plenty of parking and we were the first customers there. We were meeting friends and I would recommend this place whether you want a nice conversation with friends or if it's date night. They have a happy hour and we ordered everything on the happy hour menu. I had a glass of their Sauvignon Blanc which was ordinary and everyone else had the aperol spritzer. My friend and I got the chicken skewer appetizer, egg plant with tofu dish, pad see ew with chicken, and a bowl of brown rice. The presentation was great. Every dish was pretty. Just a superior level of cooking - the impressive execution on these dishes had me texting Berkeley friends during lunch about this new spot. The moo ping skewers had good chair and the marinade kept the pork tender, and the accompanying sauce ensured the balance of sweet and acidic in the classic Thai flavor profile. The nam khao tod here is one of the best versions I have ever had, and this is a dish that I order almost every time I see it on a menu. Rice was crispy and not clumped, with chili, herbs, fermented sausage and crunchy roasted peanuts. I do prefer to roll it in lettuce and herbs, so I brought most of it home to do so and dip in nuoc cham, but next time I could just ask for more lettuce there. The pad see ew features perfectly crisp Chinese broccoli and tender wide rice noodles coated in just the right amount of sauce that wasn't overly sweet, and it came with a bright acidic, spicy orange sauce on the side as a nice counterpoint. The chicken breast in the noodles was a bit on the dry side, but that was most likely due to my arriving at the end of the lunch rush and that I tend to prefer chicken thigh. Excited to have found this restaurant as it is rare to find a Thai place at this level! Service is great and the industrial, airy space is beautiful. There's also plenty of outdoor seating and accommodation for canine friends - I saw a dog bed at the host stand. Dined here for Valentine's day dinner with a reservation. I was greeted warmly by the host and was impressed with the interior design and overall comfortable and intimate ambiance of the restaurant. The host was fine with my partner and I sitting at one of tables against a bench seat rather than another table she had initially picked out. I loved the floral centerpieces on the table which also included a glittery heart suitable for the occasion. There was a special Valentine's Day menu available, but opted for the Bamee Ped Toon on the regular dinner menu. I appreciate the menu indicating which dishes are spicy. I also ordered the Bang Na cocktail. The cocktail prices on the table menu holder are different than the full Drinks menu. I was disappointed to hear from the waiter that the lower price on the table signage would not be honored. It was a little strange to see the waiter donning a Bass Pro Shop hat and bright blue nitrile gloves reminding me of the hospital. However, service was prompt and he always kept our water cups filled. The food came out relatively quickly, was plated nicely, and tasted good. I used the bathroom here (gender-neutral single stall) which was clean and adequately stocked. They dropped off the bill at the table without checking to see if we wanted dessert, so we just paid for it and left. This is my third time coming here, but my first time eating. I usually come to Berkeley on Saturdays. The first time, I thought the restaurant was closed between lunch and dinner. The second time, I came around noon and it was closed again, so I looked it up and found out that it is open for dinner only on Saturdays. This time, I managed to come on Friday night. This was our second time here. There are many very good Thai restaurants in the area, but I think this one is the best. Sometimes one goes back to a restaurant one really liked, and it just isn't as good the second time. That is not true of Bangkok by the Bay. They have what so many lack: consistency. As several people mention, the food is beautifully presented as well as being delicious. The last time we were underwhelmed by the Tom Kha soup, finding it was overly subtle. But we loved the Japanese eggplant, which we had again and it was just as delicious. We tried the Kabocha green curry. It is a more subtle version than in most Thai restaurants, but the different vegetables and the seasonings were terrific. A good kind of subtle. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the sticky mango rice. It was good, but I can't help comparing it to what we had in Thailand, which is probably not fair. The next time, I'm going to try one of their tempting cocktails. The service is friendly, attentive, and professional, the atmosphere elegant. This is a restaurant I'd like to come to regularly. There are so many dishes to try. It's not cheap but pretty standard for a moderately priced Bay Area restaurant and it's very good value for the money.
