    Empanadas

The best empanadas I've ever had -- and I don't say that lightly. I've eaten my way through plenty of empanadas in my life, but these are on another level. The dough is perfectly golden, with just the right amount of crisp on the outside and a soft, pillowy pull as you bite through. It's clear someone here actually cares about the craft. The filling is where things get serious. Generous, well-seasoned, and balanced -- every bite has a little of everything. No dry pockets, no bland centers, no corners cut. The flavors are layered in a way that feels homemade in the best possible sense, like a recipe that was earned over time, not just thrown together. The portions are honest, the value is real, and the quality is consistent. I brought friends on my second visit and watched all of them go quiet after the first bite -- which, if you know my friends, is saying something. If you're even remotely curious, just order them. You'll be back.

Man what can I say about Barrio chino this place is the best. The mix of Asian and the jerk chicken is so freaking good. I found this place on a random night and I've been going ever since, you can tell the food is made with love. Highly recommended!

If you're looking for something unique in the Bay Area food scene, Tito's Barrio Chino inside Adeline Food Hall is definitely worth checking out. The concept alone caught my attention -- a creative blend of Chinese and Latin flavors -- but the execution is what really made the experience memorable. One of the standout dishes we tried was the Jerk Chicken Fried Rice, and it was seriously one of the most interesting fried rice dishes I've had. The rice was perfectly cooked with great texture, packed with flavor, and the jerk seasoning added just the right amount of spice and smokiness. It wasn't overpowering at all -- just a really balanced flavor that kept you going back for another bite. Even the cabbage mixed in had a little kick that complemented the dish really well. What really made the visit special though was Tito himself. He took the time to talk with us about the inspiration behind his food and how he blends flavors from his background and his travels. You can tell he genuinely cares about honoring the cultures behind the dishes while still putting his own creative twist on them. My husband loved the jerk fried rice so much he almost finished the whole container himself -- and that says a lot because we ordered it to share! If you're in Berkeley at Adeline Food Hall and want something different from the usual takeout, Tito's Barrio Chino is a great spot to try. Flavorful food, thoughtful dishes, and a chef who truly cares about his craft. Definitely coming back to try more from the menu.

    chopped cheese empanadas with maduros

I don't usually leave reviews but this place absolutely deserves it. I tried the chopped cheese empanadas with maduros and WOW... easily one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. The empanadas were perfectly crispy on the outside and packed with juicy, flavorful chopped cheese on the inside, seasoned just right and not greasy at all. Every bite was fireeee. And the maduros? Sweet, soft, and caramelized to perfection. They balanced the savory empanadas so well it was honestly the perfect combo. On top of that, the service was amazing. The staff was super friendly, attentive, and made sure everything came out fresh and quickly. They really went out of their way to make the experience even better. You can tell everything was made fresh and with care. Great flavor, great portions, and just overall a 10/10 experience. I'll definitely be coming back and bringing people with me! Highly recommend if you're looking for something unique and seriously delicious.

Where do I begin! Barrio Chino gave me a fusion cuisine experience that truly brought joy to my belly. The food is a delightful blend of Nicaraguan flavors with a wonderful touch of Asian cuisine, creating something unique and absolutely delicious. On top of that, everything is very reasonably priced and the customer service is extremely warm and welcoming. Definitely a must-try!

I usually come with my family, and we order damn near everything on the menu. The aunties serving dishes actually laugh when they see how much food they're dropping off at the table. My favorites are the chili oil wontons, hot and dry noodles, bok choy, and General Tso's chicken. The wontons have just the right amount of heat, the noodles are thicccc and chewy, and every dish somehow manages to disappear before we can even think about leftovers. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything you order. One of my favorite parts is watching them make the noodles by hand. Half the restaurant is dedicated to the noodle-making station, while the other half is for seating. It's not a huge dining room, but they do offer the Yelp Waitlist, so you can check the live wait before heading over. The vibe is very, get your food and head out so they can keep up with table space for incoming guests. Always a hit, never a miss.

When we first walked in, no other diners were there which made me a little suspicious. We were promptly seated and offered hot tea though so we were locked in. My partner got kung pao chicken. while we waited for our food, a handful of people came in to pick up their to go orders, which made me feel better. Another party eventually dined in as well. Fyi the interior isn't much to write home about but comfortable. Then the food came. My soup was freaking delicious! Loads of chicken meat (just chopped up with the bones so be careful for shards), plenty of dumplings, and the broth was sooo good! I couldn't finish and took some left overs home; the next day, my soup coagulated (full of collagen)!! Partner enjoyed their kung Pao chicken but said they'd order something else next time. This was my experience with pretty much every dish I ordered on a recent trip to Yu Yu Za Zang. I'll admit this is one of those places I've walked or driven past for years and have always meant to try but just never got around to it. But I finally had an opportunity to drag my cousin/regular dining buddy with me. We ordered Yang Jang Pi (also known as Double Skin in some places), regular jajang (spelled zazang here) myun, and tang sue yuk (beef - which is the traditional Korean meat for this dish). My cousin and I are huuuuuge fans of the Double Skin at Great China in Berkeley, so the Double Skin here had a pretty high bar to reach. We were pleasantly surprised to find it more than held its own. The portions of everything were very generous, and the mustard dressing was nice and spicy. Perhaps the veggies were not quite as crunchy as Great China's, so not as much of a variety of textures, but this Yang Jang Pi was still delicious, and I still think about it days after our visit. The jajang (zazang) myun was also very generously portioned and pretty tasty. I haven't had any in Oakland in a while, so hard to say how it compares, but I would definitely eat it again. The beef tang sue yuk was incredible. Again, large portion, perfectly crispy outside, tender beef inside, and one of the best sweet and sour sauces I've ever had with this dish. The vibe is simple and clean; nothing fancy, but I went for the food, so I was fine with that. The service was also friendly and fast. There were barely any people there on a Saturday evening, which made me sad, because the food really is good. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. They also have soju and beer. Although Hanshin Pocha next door is popular, I could see Yu Yu Za Zang being a decent spot for delicious, very reasonably priced food that one can share with friends while having a couple of rounds of drinks. And in this economy, aren't we all looking for a good deal?
