Was having a beach day at Crowne Beach, and decided to order lunch from Fowl+Fare. Found them on DoorDash but unfortunately was temporarily closed for the app so we had to pickup in person. Discovered that there's really no dine in option there(unless you want to sit on picnic tables outside) so we took it to go. We had the charred lemon garlic fried chicken sandwich, black garlic fried, the classic and citric hot, plus 2 orders of seasoned fries. The fried chicken sandwiches were enjoyable. I really liked my citric hot, with the right amount of kick from the spices, and the crunch of the fried chicken filet. The seasoned fries were also good. However, for almost $20, I really expect the size of the chicken sandwiches to be a bit larger, so it was not satisfying for me. I liked the variety of chicken sandwiches here, but the value proposition fell a bit short.
Sandwiches were so well cooked and the flavors were incredibly balanced. We got a charred lemon garlic and citric hot combo and I was worried the hot sandwich would be too spice forward, but it was incredibly balanced with the slaw. The fries were also flavored so well and were seasoned to our liking, with a hint of sweetness. We came on a Sunday an hour+ before closing and heard him turn away people after us because he ran out of food. Looking forward to coming back and trying the kiwi habanero next!
New Friday night tradition for The Teen and I and finding new restaurants to go to, and then go look at the water before we head home.. Since I was driving, she scrolled upon Fowl + Fare so we decided to give it a go. Rolled up and found parking on the right hand side, slid in and pay two dollars on the tilted meter. Had my taste buds revved up for the nuggets and fries, but they were only serving sandwiches and fries. Me: The Fowl Fries She: The classic sandwich with the toppings on the side. The teen enjoyed her sandwich and ate every bit of it. Me: The Fowl Fries which I found to be ok, probably because I had my taste buds yearning for something else. Service was good as we were greeted upon our walk to the counter, not having to wait too long for our meal which was brought to us with a smile, and they extra fries that they gave to The Teen. Ambiance was chill as there was a lot of people watching to do and the weather was nice. Whilst I probably won't go back, because I will be in mission of trying other restaurants, The Teen said she would. Giving this place 3 yumms up and a thanks for the side of fries!

I thought I was walking into an indoor seating situation but there are just two picnic tables outside, at least during my visit. The woman at the front was incredibly friendly and took care of my order quickly, which was the charred lemon pepper sandwich, fries and a soda. She let me know it would be about a 20 min wait and she was exactly right. Food was brought out and it was hot and fresh. Unfortunately, the lemon pepper flavor was barely noticeable, if not overtaken by the pear slaw. The composition of the sandwich was good but I wished for more flavor. Seasoned fries are one of my favorite types and there's were delicious. Enough to share, I took about half back home. I'd try another sandwich to see if I just picked wrong but I won't be running back.

This place makes a pretty consistent, tasty fried chicken sandwich with both a classic and unique styles. I usually go for their regular fried chicken sandwich and it's always very crispy, the bun is perfectly toasted and buttery, and they do a unique pear slaw that is not too acidic! I'm not a huge pickles fan, but I find that their pickles aren't too pickled so I like it with the sandwich. They have a special sauce that very well with the other flavors of the sandwich. The only thing about this place that doesn't compare to its counterparts is that the spicy chicken sandwiches aren't super spicy, compared to some of the other places in Oakland. So if you're looking for a super spicy hot chicken sandwich, this might not be the best option in my opinion. Regardless, I am a huge fan place and find myself coming back often. Unfortunately, the store is located on a side street in Alameda so it's all street parking with not very many options. They also only take online orders through the website and not phone orders. There's not too much seating, a couple of benches around. Seems like it's a one-man show!

We got lucky and placed an online order while driving out to alameda, and thank goodness we did because as people were coming in after us their wait time was anywhere between 45min-1hr. The brisket was well cooked, as with the fried chicken. All the flavors were well blended together. And the portion sizing were definitely not skimped on either! 1 could easily feed 2, maybe even 3 depending on the group. Was glad we were able to make a trip out to try it. Outdoor seating is limited, and there is no bathroom available for the customers either.

Small and simple chicken stand, with a few tables outside for seating. There is one person taking orders and one person cooking, and a fridge for a selection of beverages to purchase. Casual music played overhead. I was hoping to try the black garlic chicken sandwich but unfortunately they did not have this in stock for the day. I opted for the original chicken sandwich instead, and it was very light and crispy! The sauce pairs well with the sandwich and we also got fries which were nice and crispy. I appreciated and was very surprised that I wasn't hit with an overwhelming sense of sleepiness after eating this chicken sandwich (which I oftentimes do with something this heavy). Great spot to have a quick midday bite!
I don't know that I would have ever found this place without a friend's referral but so glad I went and now I want to go again! Counter service with limited outdoor seating near the side walk by the road so it isn't intimate but it isn't noisy either. When I went there was a gentleman that was a one man show (perhaps owner) was taking orders, cooking, and still checked in with us (by name!) to see how things were. Talk about incredible service! The black garlic sandwich was delicious! Tender, juicy, with nicely seasoned fries to accompany. They have some really interesting chicken sandwiches so I want to go back and try the others!

Excellent food - a definite must try! We were in the area and my daughter highly recommended this place. I ordered the Charred Lemon Garlic Fried Chicken Sandwich. It includes a Fried Chicken Thigh, Charred Lemon Pepper Sauce, House Pickles, Pear Slaw & Black Garlic Sauce on soft Brioche bun - very flavorful sandwich. I savored every bite! Hubby got a Black Garlic Fried Chicken Sandwich with Fried Chicken Thigh, Black Garlic Sauce, House Pickles & Pear Slaw on toasted brioche bun. He enjoyed it but it wasn't filling enough for him. So note, if you're 220 lbs or so, or if you have a bigger appetite, you might want to order a second sandwich or get the Fowl Fry Combo instead. Sandwiches run about $17 - totally worth it though. Savor every bite, and you won't be sorry! read more
A great chicken sandwich awaits you at Fowl + Fare in Alameda! I finally had a chance to try this place! Fowl + Fare operates from a small storefront right next to the Shanvi Indian Grocery store on Santa Clara Ave (near Broadway). This place is either takeout or eat outside on picnic tables. I took my food to-go. I had the Citric Hot Chicken Sandwich w/ Seasoned Fries. I liked the Citric Hot Chicken Sandwich. It was spicy, but not numbing hot. The slaw sort of smoothed out the spicy heat. It's made from thigh meat, so it's moist and easy to eat. I didn't like the seasoned fries. They cut the potatoes into thin fries that don't travel well as takeout. Probably okay if you ate them right there, fresh from the kitchen. If I go back, I'm just getting a sandwich.....no fries. read more

After seeing the spot on IG thanks to one of my foodie bosses, we finally put in an order. I had the Charred Lemon Pepper Fries and he had the Charred Lemon Pepper sandwich. Both were excellent. There was plenty of chicken, sauce and fries in my order. Pick up was super easy and the owner was nice. I spoke with another patron who was picking up her order and she recommended the citric hot sandwich. I definitely will be trying that or the black garlic chicken sandwich. The pineapple also sounds amazing. Ordering ahead is definitely the way to go as the owner is a one person show right now. It'll definitely be worth the wait if you don't though. read more

On the day of the transaction, we contacted the business by phone. At that time, no refund was offered -- only a discount on a future visit. Because no refund had been issued, we filed a dispute with our bank. As shown in the attached transaction screenshot, the dispute was initiated before any refund was reflected on our account. The owner later contacted us directly using the personal phone number provided for the pickup order. In that message (see screenshot), we were accused of being dishonest and told the order had already been refunded. We are sharing this update so other consumers are aware of our experience and the fact that contact information provided for an order was later used to send an accusatory message following a dispute. read more

Everything is made in house even the brioche buns (warmed my sandwich up the next day it was not soggy) the restaurant is one I can definitely l pass by if u your not paying attention.. it's located 2 doors down from lemon drop. It's a few tables with outdoor seating.If y are looking for flavor this is your place.. every flavor is unique and something u won't imagine. The chef knows what he's doing.. everything you're looking for in a chicken sandwich is here.. crispy fresh flavorful.. the sandwich comes with a pear slaw chef's kiss.. it was sooo good.. fries came nice and hot the chef let me try every sauce .. the Jamaican jerk was my favorite.. it didn't take long to get the order.. definitely would have waited if I had to read more

After posting this review, the owner contacted us directly on a personal phone number used for the order and accused us of dishonesty while falsely stating that a refund had already been issued. The refund was only initiated after a bank dispute. We believe customers should be aware of this conduct. The chicken was like rubber and it looks raw. It's like they just slapped sauces on it and called it food. Also the vegetables like the pickles and coleslaw taste expired and bitter. I'm sure it is expired. I had high hopes for this place because of the reviews. Now I'm convinced the ratings are fake. I never even review places but this was just so bad. read more

Fowl + Fare is perched @Flavor Island after roosting at The Lodge for a time. 2 tables inside & 2 tables outside for dining . Soul music in background. Order at counter. Pay. Eats cooked to order. Ready in 5ish minutes. Offerings: Chicken sandwiches, fries, soft drinks. Bites: Jamaican Jerk Fried Chicken Sandwich (17) -large piece of thigh meat fried perfecto with thin, light crunchy crust. Brioche bun pillowy melt in mouth quality. Meat semi-moist, semi juicy. Not dry. -seasoned with house made jerk sauce, mayo, balanced with pear slaw, cabbage, & charred scallion aioli. -each bite had a complex nuanced layering of flavas. Jerk flava not overpowering. yum! Deliz! 5 stars Worthy! May repeat with other sandwiches. read more

So this place was very what can I say interesting. Truth me told it's so in the cut with not much signage that we drove right past it. Then we parked and ended up walking right past it. Sad to say the food was not top notch. The fries tasted old like they fried them earlier in the day and then refried them once we ordered them. We sat outside because it was scorching inside. They didn't have what I wanted which was the box so I settled for the chicken sandwich which was meh. Didn't taste as seasoned as I expected it would. They also had no drink options. If you don't drink Coke or you expect a variety don't even think about it. Plus they brought our food outside and just set it in the table. My fries were falling out onto the nasty outside table where we had to lay down napkins to keep them from being wasted. They need to use trays or baskets or something. I feel bad giving them such a hard time but in all truth I am just hoping they make the necessary changes because if not I don't see this place lasting much longer. Ordered online on Saturday night and picked up before closing and the sandwich was still nice and hot. Service was friendly! We ordered the Citric hot sandwich, sauce and coleslaw on the side (just in case the sandwich gets soggy). For someone who doesn't love chicken sandwiches, this is the best one I have tried so far. (Husband loves fried chicken sandwiches so we have tried a lot) my husband also said he enjoyed this sandwich and agrees it's one of the better ones he has had. The sandwich wasn't greasy and the spice hits your taste buds at the end. The coleslaw isn't super wet and compliments the sandwich well. Will definitely try the other sandwiches next time! The sauce is also not heavy and pairs well with the chicken. read more

I've had the privilege of following Will and Fowl + Fare's journey from all the way back in 2020 when he was selling sandwiches out of his home. Every bite is incredible. Every ingredient is thoughtfully curated. Portion sizes are incredibly generous and prices are very reasonable. I've brought several people to try this amazing spot and have told many, many more about it. An absolute can't miss every time I'm in the area! read more

I always get the Fowl Fries with classic chicken, and I have to say, I love how consistent it is--it never disappoints. I've also tried one of their wraps, and it was solid too, definitely a good option. The service is always on point; the guys there are super nice. They've got outdoor seating available too. Overall, I'd recommend it if you're craving some fried chicken vibes. read more

Hands down the BEST chicken sammich on the island that rivals Bakesale Betty's in Oakland. The chicken was moist, tender, and wonderfully seasoned. The slaw dressing paired well with the chicken and the bun was nice & soft. Fries were perfectly seasoned as well. Definitely going back again. Don't know why it took me so long to visit this establishment that's walking distance from my place. Outdoor seating only. read more
Wow! Really good fried chicken sandwiches. Chicken came out crispy and juicy and the flavor combinations were great. The Jamaican jerk had a subtle heat to it (not that spicy) and the jerk sauce was really flavorful but eats a little too salty for me. The charred scallion aioli also added a nice smokiness to it. Would like some acidity to balance out the saltiness like pickles or something. Citric hot is SPICY, nice heat and good flavor throughout. The pickles in this helped provide some acidity which was nice. Fries are great too. Very small shop, so dine in is limited. Come support this business!! read more

We decided to try this spot after seeing it on Instagram. We ordered the birria sandwich and fries and the garlic sandwich. They were really good and the flavors worked well together. I gave it three stars because the service was not the best. The person taking out order seemed a bit annoyed and the prices are extremely extremely expensive. It was about $80 for two sandwiches and fries. Kinda crazy for the amount of food and sucky service :(( read more
Small unassuming shop with one person taking orders and one person preparing the food. There's a water station and a fridge if you're interesting in purchasing drinks. Two small tables inside, so not the best for large groups. When we sat inside to eat, we did notice small bugs on the floor...might be because the doors opened and they do have an indoor planter by the wall. Citric hot - 4.5/5 good amount of heat which is nice since I usually find things to not be spicy enough. I didn't love the lemon flavor, wish there was an option to not have that but my bf enjoyed it. The chicken was not dry at all which I really appreciate. They use dark meat which was a nice touch. I would prob order this one again when I come back Black Garlic - 4/5 good crispy sandwich, not enough garlic though. I personally didn't taste much garlic when I tried it. Fries - 3/5 I asked for this to be extra crispy and the person at the counter said they already do their fries extra crispy. It was not extra crispy...came out soft and I didn't really care for them. They're sweet and comes with an aioli for dipping. Costed $6 which is a lil hefty price tag for fries. read more
