I've lived in alameda my whole life and these two ladies have been sweet and kind the few times I've gone here. My recent experience was nothing but unpleasant for my father. We come and my dad is trying to communicate what he wanted on his sandwich, and everyone is particular about everything so before you quick jump to "it's just a sandwich" we pay for good service and we tip good and i'm writing this in hopes this doesn't happen to anyone else in the board. My dad wanted everything on his sandwich as well as lite mustard and etc and the lady who makes the sandwiches wasn't listening and kept trying to say she got it and she's working on it. I've worked in food service for years and it is important to hear what a customer is asking for because after all, it's their food. We got home, no tomatoes, sandwich was missing stuff, my boyfriend's sandwich was missing stuff. It was disappointing. My father was very upset. I think they could be more friendly as well as being more adapting to certain people who are just communicating a specific need or want in their purchase. Sandwich Board has been around forever so it must be good, right? Have to admit I dont come here often, but felt like a turkey (sando) today. Have to street park on Webb or Park. Its tucked a little ways down Webb St so you kinda have to know its there. Not gonna just walk by it. Take out only - didnt see any place to sit down and eat. Ladies are super nice and fast. I changed my order 3 times. Oh you have specials - can I change to that? Oh you have roast beef - I'll have one of those too. "Sure, no problem". I ended up with the turkey salad special - yum yum with chunks of turkey. Mac salad was just OK, but I came for the sando. I think they would really well in the old Dimitra's location on Park St. by J-in-the-B with a parking lot, bus stop and lots of foot traffic. We ordered two turkey and one hot pastrami sandwich. The turkey in both sandwiches was dry, and the pastrami was rubbery. The bread was average, like a roll you'd get from the pre-packaged bread section (not the bakery) of the grocery store. But I can't do that because last Friday I ordered a Meatloaf on Sourdough Roll (with everything) sandwich. And it wasn't the best sandwich I ever ate. The Sourdough Roll was too much bread. Perhaps if there were two meatloaf slices if would of been okay. Also, not very much lettuce or dressings. So, I went back on a Saturday morning and asked them what's the best sandwich on the menu board. Answer: the "Susan's Special." What kind of bread should it go on? Answer: "Sourdough sliced." So I ordered the Susan's Special, all dark meat, with everything. The sandwich has fresh turkey, cranberry sauce, bacon, and cheese. Then it's loaded with everything else. It's a big, thick turkey sandwich and it's really good. The service is really friendly and quick. Conclusion: Order a turkey sandwich! $11.95 for a Susan's Special, and it's worth it. read more
