Banilla Cheesecake mini and watermelon agua fresca
    Adrian L.

I heard about Crazy Block from Instagram. I love barbecue and had to check them out. I ordered the Beef Rib plate that comes with two bones and two sides. I selected collard greens and corn bread. The ribs had a nice smoky flavor but wasn't fall off the bone tender. The sides were really good. I enjoyed a mini Banilla cheesecake and watermelon agua fresca. I look forward to trying more barbecue spots in Oakland.

The Ambiance is amazing, the service is amazing, the food was just ok. It wasn't bad, but not my go to for good BBQ. I ordered a 2 way, Beef Rib and Brisket, my sides were, collard greens and candy yams. I was set to order the Mac & Cheese, but when I saw it come out I changed my mind. The brisket was cook to perfect, but I had to add BBQ sauce to enjoy it . Though I am a heavy sauce guy, I like the meat banging without it. The beef rib, cooked to perfect, but was a bit tough for my liking, and since I cook beef ribs, I know the procedures to get rid of that toughness. I must add that the 2 way should come with cornbread or at least a slice of bread. ‍ And toothpicks should be available ‍‍ Now shame on me for coming to Crazy Block Cheesecake and not get a cheesecake ‍. I will visit again to try the chicken and the lamb, because I like the owners IG presence and vibe.

Found this place through social media and it immediately went on my must try list. Parking in the area is pretty easy, I snagged street parking right across the street without any trouble. The service was quick and super friendly and I even got to meet the owner who was genuinely warm and welcoming. Always a good sign when the owner is present and engaged. I ordered the combo plate with brisket, ribs, coleslaw and mac and cheese and everything was outstanding. The mac and cheese is an absolute must, incredibly creamy and the kind of side dish that steals the show. The brisket and ribs were exactly what you want from a BBQ spot. What really surprised me though was the longanisa. I've had longanisa plenty of times but never prepared with a BBQ flair like this. It was a really fun and delicious twist that I wasn't expecting. Also grabbed the latke and that was a great call too. This place is doing something really special and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Definitely coming back soon!

An absolute Oakland gem! You simply can't beat this spot in the area. If you're in town, this place is a must stop for incredible food. This time I went with the Dino Ribs, and they were unbelievably tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Every bite was worth it! The quality, portions, and overall experience keep me coming back. If you're looking for amazing barbecue and a place that delivers every time, do yourself a favor and stop by.

This place is always on my mind whenever I'm feeling hungry, even when I'm not in the mood for bbq which is crazy right!? Service is always on point & I LOVE the aesthetics of the restaurant. The Dino rib, dear lawd the Dino rib is priced to sell which is why it was sold out the first time I came here. But the second time! I grabbed two pounds & it was well worth it. The meat is so dang tender & the flavor is not typical bbq flavor which is why I'm so obsessed! It's so good! The Mac & cheese is soooo creamy! A different take on the popular side dish has me in an eternal chokehold as a Mac n cheese connoisseur. Show up hungry & leave with extra! Portions will leave you walking out with a smile believe it. *Edit* there's Dragon Ball playing on the tv, they're goated!

"Boozie sent us" Lol We found this place on TikTok from BoozieBrunch. We came for the Dino Ribs but they only sell them on certain days (Friday, Saturday and Sundays?) My husband enjoyed everything on his tray: Beef ribs, coleslaw, baked beans with brisket. He said everything tasted sooo good. Thumbs up on adding vinegar on the BBQ. He also ordered the links on the side. My food was ok: BBQ chicken, mac & cheese, collard greens. There were four pieces of chicken but not very meaty portions. I wouldn't order the mac and cheese again. The collard greens were good. We got the the brisket, candied yams and cornbread to go for our kids. They said the brisket was really tender and flavorful. They didn't want to share. No one really liked the candied yams. The star of the meal was the Henny Praline Cheesecake. OMG! I should've got the bigger serving. Not too sweet, loved the praline topping. We'll be coming back. Hubby really wants to try the Dino Ribs.

Ben goes above and beyond to serve the community with bomb food & the best cheesecakes! Happy one year to him and his business! Still my fav brisket! I've recently fallen in love with the passion fruit mini cheesecakes. To die for!

I remember when Crazy Block Cheesecake used to be based in Alameda and I think at the time they only had cheesecakes, but now they have all kinds of BBQ and even latkes! The owner has absolutely perfected the craft of a good cheesecake. The first time I had a cheesecake from here was when they were still in Alameda and I bought a TooGoodToGo surprise bag from them. I got lucky and ended up with a medium cheesecake and a mini one. I talked about the cheesecakes regularly but hadn't gone back. This past weekend, they celebrated their one year anniversary at their storefront in Oakland. The owner has created such a vibe with vibrant paintings in and around the restaurant and they even had karaoke all day long for their anniversary. They should honestly have it every weekend. I could totally see myself going regularly with friends to just have bbq + cheesecake and vibe out with some karaoke. I ordered the Ube Buko Pandan Cheesecake and the Gulab Jamun Cheesecake, mini for each of them. I was worried that the Gulab Jamun would be super sweet and overly saturated with the rose flavor, but it was actually perfectly balanced. Every bite had the perfect amount of cheesecake to gulab jamun flavor. The ube buko pandan tasted like it had real ube in it, but maybe I was fooled. Either way, I hope it stays on the menu! For the BBQ, we ordered pulled lamb and brisket with mac and cheese + coleslaw. I was personally really enjoying the lamb even without any sauce. It had a nice seasoning blend on it. The natural lamb flavor was also pretty subdued, but in a good way. We also got some of their habanero sauce, which kinda reminded me of filipino vinegar. I really enjoyed it.

We're always on the hunt for great barbecue around Lake Merritt, and this place did not disappoint. We actually stumbled upon Crazy Block Cheesecakes by chance, and before we even made it inside, the owner was standing outside holding a tray with a lamb burger and fries. That alone had our attention. One look at that tray and we knew we had to check it out. Inside, the place has a fun vibe and an incredible display case packed with cheesecakes in just about every flavor you can imagine. It's hard not to stare at it for a minute before ordering. For lunch, my husband ordered the tri-tip burger with fries, and I went with the lamb burger with mac and cheese on the side. I also ordered one latke, which came with sour cream and applesauce, and that turned out to be a great call. Everything we tried was flavorful and satisfying. The barbecue was well seasoned and cooked just right. The lamb burger had great flavor, and the mac and cheese made the perfect comfort-food side. That latke was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and paired perfectly with the sour cream and applesauce. And then there's the cheesecake situation. The display case is stacked with options and honestly feels like a mini cheesecake museum. Even if you came just for barbecue, it would be hard to leave without taking a cheesecake home. The food was tasty, the portions were generous, and the whole experience felt welcoming and relaxed. It's always fun finding a spot that feels a little unexpected but delivers big on flavor. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu. Well done, Block. Well done indeed. Pro tip: Come hungry and save room for cheesecake. The display case alone is worth a visit.

Such a cute place. I was lured in by the owners IG marketing campaign. Finding a parking space was rough on a Saturday night. I placed my order online only to find that they were out of lamb upon my arrival. I had to pay and upgrade charge to get Salmon instead. Things I ordered Brisket: tender and delicious Salmon: Good flavor Links: dry - wont order again Yams - super sweet but delicious Mac n cheese - not 'traditional' but garlicky and tasty Baked beans (vegetarian and meat) tasty but for different reasons. The star of this review the Latke! I only got one because I wasn't sure. But the thickness, the oninion, the salt. It came with applesauce and sour cream. Im in love and will return.

Came here on a Sunday and it wasn't busy. We ordered a pound of lean brisket, a lamb sandwich, and a mini chocolate cheesecake. Everything was so tasty! I asked for lean brisket and it was so juicy and tender even though it was lean. The lamb was also super tender as well. The bun wasn't my favorite personally as it was a bit bland so I only had a bite of it. The bbq sauce was delicious! It wasn't too thick and it was on the sweeter side. We also tried the garlic aioli but it wasn't my favorite as it was a bit bland as well and just tasted like a plain sauce with not a lot of flavor. The chocolate cheesecake was amazing! It wasn't too thick and heavy and it wasn't overly sweet either. The graham cracker crust was yummy as well as I believe it's homemade. Would love to try another flavor cheesecake next time!

Updating for new breakfast item I believe available on weekends. The new breakfast sandwich is excellent. It really tastes like it's made with care. Homemade sausage with a mild spice. The sausage was incredibly juicy. Cheesy, Runny egg, buttery challah bread. Pair it with a latke or two. Makes a great on the go breakfast option on Lakeshore from CBC. Sounds like they will be adding more breakfast items. I'll be back for more.

So many flavors to try!!! Of cheesecakes!!

Food: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Value: 7/10 Wait time: 0 minutes Second time coming to try the cheesecake! This time I tried the mango and pandan with ube cheesecakes. I really liked the mango cheesecake! It was just the right amount of sweet mango and cheesy cheesecake! It was a little refreshing with the mango taste too! The pandan ube was good too but got a little too sweet at the end. I also tasted more pandan than ube. The first time I went I tried matcha and banilla and those were both delicious! If I had to pick one though I would pick fhe matcha! The bitter taste of the matcha tea offsets the rich cheesy cheesecake. But I would honestly get both of those flavor again! The only thing is I feel like the price point os a little high for the mini cheesecakes that are 3 inches in diameter. I bought 2 each time is it was $14.93 with tax! So definitely more of a special treat type of a dessert!

I placed my order at 7:15 p.m. and didn't receive my food until 8:30 p.m. The only reason I finally got it then was because a gentleman who had been working in the back came up front to help and pushed my order along. Waiting over an hour for food when the restaurant wasn't even packed is unacceptable. It was obvious they were severely understaffed. The employee with the red braids who was taking food orders at the bar told me it was only her second day, and there was no manager on duty. From what I could see, there were only two people working in the kitchen, plus the employee who eventually came from the back to help in the front. While they were handling a steady flow of walk-in customers and DoorDash orders, the staffing situation clearly wasn't adequate. What made the experience even more frustrating was that I was dining with a group, and several people who placed their orders after I did received their food well before mine. After waiting for a long time, I was finally told the delay was because I had ordered macaroni and cheese as my side, and there was a 45-minute wait for it. Had someone informed me of that when they realized the delay, I would have gladly chosen a different side. Ironically, they did come back to tell me they had run out of pulled pork and asked me to choose another meat, so they clearly had opportunities to communicate. It makes no sense that they failed to mention the issue with the macaroni and cheese at that same time. Unfortunately, the food itself didn't make up for the wait. It was bland overall. The long awaited Mac and Cheese unfortunately was just okay. The collard greens greens had far too much vinegar, my bbq chicken thighs were dry and my son couldn't even eat his ribs because the meat wasn't cooked long enough--it was so tough that it wouldn't come off the bone. I understand that restaurants have difficult days, but the lack of communication, poor organization, extended wait time, and disappointing food made for a very frustrating first experience. I hope management addresses the staffing and communication issues because no customer should have this kind of experience.

First of all, my order was TO-GO. And let me tell you... when I got home and opened that bag, I was honestly blown away. My food was packaged with so much care, precision, and pride--it was neat, organized, and handled like it actually mattered. That alone told me everything about the level of service in that building. Candalen--YOU DID THAT. The attention to detail on my plate did not go unnoticed. You treated my food like it was being served in-house, and that speaks volumes about your work ethic and pride in what you do. Aaron--listen... that peach lemon drop??? BABY. That was my first time trying one and it was EVERYTHING. Smooth, flavorful, perfectly balanced--you made that drink an experience all by itself. I will be back JUST for that. The first thing I noticed when our food came out was that the barbecue sauce wasn't as thick as I remembered, it was very runny, it's didn't stick to the mean. I also saw a lot of fat on the ribs, but thought maybe the taste would be good, so we prayed and ate. Unfortunately, the ribs were fatty and tough to find good meat. I also tried the brisket, which was a little fatty but VERY good. I ordered mac and cheese and greens as sides, but didn't like either. The mac and cheese had a bit of charred cheese on top (which I love), but I wasn't impressed afterward. My friend's hot link had zero flavor, just texture, which was strange. I was embarrassed because I had bragged about how hot the links were! Sike! Everyone at the table enjoyed the sweet cornbread. We also loved the mango lemonade. The desserts were outstanding: caramel cake, key lime pie, and pecan sweet potato pie. I highly recommend those! I'd visit again but skip the ribs and links. FALSE ADVERTISING!! They say that they have NO SPECIAL deal with Mr. Kruger! I didn't know that it was NOT an actual restaurant setting/sitting. Not a fan. The food had to be microwaved.... Not a fan. The food was good but everything was weighed; not a fan. INCLUDING the Bar-B-Que sauce??? The only ribs were Baby back, not particular. The chicken was the best. Then the brisket, but you are out of sauce by then. Their famous white sauce was just not bar-b-que sauce. You could eat the baby backs WITHOUT sauce; but, I like sauce on bar-b-que. Sides ... the greens have all of the right ingredients but the need to be cooked, much much longer. They were pig in a pickle ... didn't like their pickle s. Service was ok. It was like going to a food truck INDOORS!! Ambience. It was like going to a food truck. The positive from this 'Muppet's adventure' ... I am going to start my own 'sports blog'.

My party ordered the Supreme Combo which came with 4 types of meat with cuts of pork and beef. The banchan was also great, I love when spots give some sort of onion mixture to cut the greasiness of the meat. I also love the fact that you were able to order half orders of the cold noodles. I saw that they have gopchang on the menu which I'm excited to try next time, I know it's hard to find in the area! Our server was great, I didn't catch his name but he was extremely friendly and was on top of refilling our waters. The restaurant was quiet when we came, but was in very clean conditions.

We've gotten the monster short rib, pork collar and butt, and daechang (large beef intestine), which I've always wanted to try. Servers cook the meat for you (though they're also cool with you taking the tongs to cook on your own) and it's a really nice experience. Nice array of tasty banchan, too. We'll probably be back again soon!!
