Don't get the hype. I think their coffees are watered down. Some of the other reviews mention it too. Idk if it's a Yemeni coffee thing? I've tried other cafes and felt the same. While on my drive back home from Berkeley, I needed to stop by a nearby cafe to take a call. Upon searching for local spots, I decided to stop by this Yemeni cafe. I've had great experiences at other Yemeni cafes with their ample seating and selection of drinks & pastries, and I decided to give this place a shot. Overall, I'm very happy I did! I was warmly greeted upon entering the shop and there was plenty of seating inside along with 3 big benches outside that were covered. Wifi was also free and the password was easily presented on the central pillar of the cafe. I ordered the an Iced Adeni Chai and Khaliat Alnahl (honey comb bread). I was a little worried about holding a bench down outside before receiving my order, but they have a sliding window outside too! This made it perfect so I didn't have to worry about going back inside and leaving my stuff behind. The iced chai hit the spot, with the spices elevating the chai. The honeycomb bread was unique for me, but also tasty. The sweetness of the honey cut through the slight sharpness of the cheese, which made for a tasty snack. The wifi signal was strong enough to reach outside and allowed me to take my Zoom call with no issues. There can be some people who try to approach you outside. However I popped in my headphones after a person came up, and I wasn't bothered for the rest of the afternoon. The only parking around is street parking. I came on a late Wednesday afternoon, and fortunately street parking was quite easy to find then. read more

Mohka House is on MacArthur Blvd in the Dimond District of Oakland. They have a very large space as coffee shops go with great decorations. I've had their Yemeni Coffees/Lattes with the different spices, e.g. Cardamon, etc. The staff turn those drinks around quickly even when it's busy and if you ask for "for here" they will put it in some nice cups. They have a bakery section with a wide range of baklava and other pastries. I've had their hazelnut and walnut baklava, as well as their Malawa Cookies which were all really good. No offense to those who like Starbucks, but these days I prefer these less generic and comfortable coffee experience.. Mohka House provides that. read more

Cute little tea shop tucked away in Oakland. We stopped by and tried their spicy chicken fatayar and sesame pastry w/honey along with the Qishr (non-caffeinated, coffee husk spiced tea). The spicy chicken fatayar packs quite a punch and was a little more spicy than we'd expected, but flavorful nonetheless. The sesame pastry was nice and flaky - a light treat to go along with the Qishr. The Qishr is a mildly coffee and spice flavored drink. I liked it since I wanted a break from caffeine that day. Finding this spot was a bit tricky. It was blocked by one of those make shift outdoor dining structures made during COVID haha. The place had a good amount of people it. I found the interior a bit dark. Not a place I'd like to hang out at and chat with a friend. My kid saw they had a tiramisu latte. We decided to get it... dang social media haha. The drink itself looked good. But unfortunately didn't meet our coffee needs. It tasted a bit watered down and the coffee itself wasn't really strong. Will say that it does get pretty loud in here with the background music and many people having full blown conversations. I ordered a baklava and Adeni chai tea. The baklava was okay. If I was purely reviewing the kind and wonderful staff and possibly coffee and tea, then 5 stars. But I ate a selection of pastries and chai, so I have to grade on that. I loved the ambiance, it felt we was in another country. The place was packed I have no idea where everyone parked haha. Very hard to find parking. The Adeni Chai I had was wonderful and I would get again. The lemon pastries I had were good & I would possibly get again. Both cheese pastries & meat pocket I didnt care for so much. I undetstand they are an acquired taste but me being Middle Eastern we have our own versions and I think that's why I didn't like as much. I would definitely go back and try more sweet pastries. They had a large selection I couldn't try them all haha. I would love to try more tea and coffee options as well. Go and try out several different pastries and discover what you like. It's cheaper than buying an airplane ticket to try another countries culture and delights. They also have outside seating which is especially nice on a beautiful day. Hella good! It's been months, but the service is always great, plenty of spots to sit at, and so-far many people on their laptops - which means...good wifi!! I got a mocha house latte with maple syrup which was small but delicious, as well as two great Yemeni pastries. Since there are so many pictures of the food, here are two of the gender-neutral rest room, which is clean, not bad aesthetically, and mercifully does not require a key or code to enter. Stopped by Mohka House in Oakland and honestly really liked it. The spot is owned and run by two brothers, which gives it a chill, personal vibe. We went mainly for drinks and tried a latte, tiramisu latte, and a Spanish latte. The tiramisu latte and Spanish latte were both really good and definitely my favorites. Smooth, flavorful, and not overly sweet. You can tell the coffee quality is solid. We also tried the matcha drinks in vanilla and strawberry. I liked the strawberry matcha more. It comes unsweetened, so I asked for it to be sweetened and it was great after that. The vanilla matcha was fine too, just not my top pick. They're also dropping a new Ramadan drink soon, a date latte, which sounds really good and I'll probably come back just to try that. Overall, great drinks and a nice place to hang out. read more

This cute neighborhood Yemeni coffee shop is really a gem here in Oakland. I came here to grab some coffee and pastries for friends and it was definitely a treat dropping by. Their Mohka House Latte was a fragrant blend of cardamon and cinnamon. They offer non-dairy options such as oat milk which was perfect for me. The latte was made very well and I don't think coffee very often, and even I was able to really enjoy the drink. I loved seeing so many vegan friendly options as well. Their chocolate chip cookie was divine with sea salt and sesame, and easily sharable too. They had a very other vegan friendly options that were also clearly marked. I'd love to drop by again to really enjoy the space. It is gorgeous inside and one I think they should be very proud of for doing. read more

Mohka House is a cute spacious cafe that offers Yemeni goods located in Oakland. Street parking is the only option so parking is a bit more sparse since it is surrounded by multiple businesses. There are lots of seating and tables available inside, however I would say that the cafe is definitely more on the quiet side. It may not the most appropriate setting to catch up with a friend as there are many people working or studying. There was only one gentleman working who was very welcoming and kind. When I saw adeni chai on the menu prior, I knew I had to stop by. In simplest terms, I would describe it as a milk tea with spices. There is pot service which I thought was super cool, as it is served over a candle to keep warm. I got the 26oz pot and wish I would've gotten the 34oz. It was sweet and flavorful. I tried a couple of the baked goods but my favorite was the honeycomb bread. It was sweet and savory. I also enjoyed the leek and parm pastry which was just savory. The mini baklava was unfortunately insanely sweet-- and this is coming from someone that enjoys sweets. It was difficult to eat due to how sweet it was. I would return in the future for the adeni chai but skip on the baked goods as the adeni chai is a good enough sweet tooth fix. read more

Wonderful spot! It has comfortable seating in a gorgeous room, excellent coffee and tea served in individual cups or urns to sip and enjoy with friends at leisure, and very tasty nibbles like honey bread and various pastries. My friend had her baby with her, and the owner (who is a dad to 6 kids, I think he said) was awesome when the baby was fussing (it is a sophisticated cafe that feels welcoming to everyone, including families, if that makes sense - weirdly, there was an off duty clown in full makeup when we arrived, but I assume that isn't a usual feature of the cafe). The owner also commissioned a local female artist to do a mural along one full wall, and the decor and music are also excellent - you can tell he thinks about every detail and really cares about the experience as well as the food and drinks. I will definitely come back whenever I am in the area and leave extra time to enjoy the genuine hospitality and tasteful, mellow vibes. read more

This cafe has everything: delicious food and drinks, fast service, sweet and kind employees, and atmosphere for *days.* I brought my foodie partner, who has lived for long periods of time in the Middle East, to this cafe and he was equally impressed. A friend of mine invited me to try out this place and I'm glad I did. I first walked in and was taken aback by the breathtakingly exquisite decor. I just had to stand and look around for a moment. The music was very soothing, just a beautiful vibe. I talked with the owner Hamza who has a great personality. I ordered the Qishr, which is a non-caffeinated beverage. It was slightly bitter, but a lovely flavor. I enjoyed it on its own and when I added honey. My friend ordered a croissant and Chai, she enjoyed both. I honestly had an incredible experience. The service was excellent, the pastries looked delicious. This is a cafe I could see myself bringing in a book or laptop, but enjoying with friends is fun too. I can't wait to return. What a beautiful space this is and so welcoming! Stopped in Tuesday morning 9am-ish and was in awe of all the flavor choices for both coffee and food. There is tea and many, many options, but I didn't have any on this visit. The flavors are all right up my alley, so it was a no-brainer for me to get the Pot Service of Mofawar - cardamom and cream. Convinced hubby to share the 18oz pot with me. It was absolutely perfect...it stays warm in it's glass serving pot, and one can add sugar to their cup or not. While hubby enjoyed it, he's not as passionate about cardamom as I am, so I drank 3 cups to his 1 cup. Don't get me wrong - he liked it very much, but he would choose a different flavor profile next time. So just for reference, the 18oz pot handily serves 2 and you could possibly squeeze a 3rd person into sharing it...but you won't find ME doing that lol. Additionally we each ordered a slice of Khaliat Alnahl (Honeycomb Bread), with additional honey drizzled on top. Also amazing. The sizes were really big and we thought we'd be taking some home....but nope. We each had no problem finishing our own. The whole space is beautiful with quiet music playing in the background...we sat in the window facing in towards the restaurant and just enjoyed the calming decor, music, and amazing food and drink. As we were leaving both of the young men working in the front were sure to say goodbye and thank us for coming. There are so many great options here that I will absolutely be making this my regular place when I want to treat myself to coffee outside my home. read more

My partner and I popped by for a drink before running errands. Curious to try another Yemeni coffee shop as they seem to be growing in popularity in Berkeley/Oakland. This place is a hidden little gem! It used to be another cafe called Hive, but recently changed over. I was on Yelp (of course!) looking for a coffee shop and stumbled across this place. I was with a coworker and know the area so thought why not. I first went into the restaurant with the same name a couple doors down lol but finally found the right place. It's decorated so cute with both couches and chairs at a table and I love that there are options! I'm a fan of the small menu and they also had some tasty treat options. Looked for a chill eveningspot and this spot is a GEM. You don't go here just for a drink--you absolutely need to get a sweet. The drinks don't have sugar in it (you can add your own) and I love that. I had a chai with walnut baklava and it was perfection. My date got a mocha with a chocolate covered carmelo concoction that was absolutely delightful. We had some extra time and saw a bunch of regulars get tea so we shared a pot of Yemeni tea-- wow.
