I guess I lucked this was the closest coffee to walk to - it was a lovely walk and the shop was just neat! The staff was truly excellent, there was a good sized line and they handled the orders quickly and got drinks out with little wait. It would seem it's already a neighborhood favorite with how many people there. I had a simple cold brew with hazelnut syrup and it was pretty perfect. I appreciate the one size only so there is no debate on size and no excess left over. I'd definitely return if ever in the area again!
Move over Blue Bottle Coffee. There's another head B in C and it goes by Bicycle Coffee. Ever since the departure of BBC (alright, I'll stop with the word/abbreviation play) I noticed the majority of clientele has been absorbed by Bicycle because they do it well. Two years ago, they expanded their roaster operation and decided to reinvest their profits into the business by getting a larger place for their operations. What this means is that they're maintaining their amazing products - everything espresso, kombucha, and tea, and adding additional goodies such as custom merchandise and season offerings. While other coffee chains increased their prices by $2-3, the cost for bicycle is pretty inflation-proof, costs only going up marginally to pay their workers a livable wage. Bicycle also has great perks for their customers, like rotating baked goods as well as free substitute for milk options. Patrons who come here can see Bicycles thoughtful minimalist furniture, amazing coffee production, and work in tranquility as people here are respectful of space. Folks that have pets or want to chat are respectful and generally take it outside. This has become my go-to place whenever I need a morning boost or some post-lunch energy.
We visited Bicycle Coffee on a Saturday morning and found it super busy! The interior had an industrial vibe and you could see the coffee being roasted in-house. I ordered a Dirty Chai Latte, which was solid. My partner asked for a drip coffee and they had at least 4 different options available. The guy at the counter was friendly and helpful with his recommendations. Service was reasonably fast considering how busy they were and I liked that they had a jar of dog biscuits. Overall, Bicycle Coffee is a great spot for coffee-connoisseurs interested in trying different beans, maybe less so for a craft beverage-lover like me. Would still return though!
I got an espresso. It's a medium/dark blend with smooth texture and a good layer of crema. I tasted dark chocolate notes but not much else. 3/5. More flavor clarity or body would have made it better.
A cafe in Jack London Square that sells a variety of drinks ranging from coffee to matcha to even boba. Inside is pretty neat as they roast their own beans and sell various roasts along with other merch. Menu prices are reasonable and service is quick. Got the mocha and it was decent - wasn't overly sweet, and was able to taste the espresso and the chocolate. Nothing crazy as they use Torani syrups/sauce.
Large open area with some seating/tables, but it does seem more like a grab and go place. You can see Service was friendly and fast. Ended up getting a cold brew and regular latte. The cold brew was free with a purchase of a bag of coffee (You can get a free drip coffee or cold brew). Both the latte and the cold brew were great. Bicycle Coffee is always a solid coffee choice in the area. Definitely coming back whenever I'm visiting Jack London. Looks like they're dog friendly? Can't verify but they did have dog biscuits available near the coffee pickup area Tip: Wifi password and bathroom codes are on the menu board in the corner
Next to the produce mart, the store is the only game in town for the morning at JLS. No cash accepted. Pleasant service, fair prices, and a very chill vibe.
I'd heard good things about Bicycle Coffee and came in for an iced matcha latte with oat milk. I LOVED that they didn't charge extra for plant based milk, huge points, meant a lot, but that was my main pro. Perhaps coffee is the way to go here. My drink wasn't notable. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good. I wouldn't come back for a matcha. No issues with service. They were friendly. There wasn't a long wait and service was quick. The interior fits nicely into the Jack London Square area.
So my friend and I decide to grab some coffees and go for a walk along the Embarcadero. I'm super excited cause I've always wanted to try this places coffee. I had an Iced Dirty Chai Latte and yes it was really good. And I also had an Everything but the bagel Croissant with cream cheese. That was really food! The vibe in here is cool. We ended up sitting at the high top table outside. The walk came later. I recommend.
The chai is delightful, the baked goods delish, and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The service staff are cheerful and kind. I love this place. Also the dogs coming in and out are quite cheerful

Was waiting for the train going inland, and know of the location in Japan, so I decided to walk over from the Jack London train station. This is the HQ location, with a roastery on site, and quick food options, so I got a warmed curry chicken breakfast burrito with an oat milk matcha latte. Highlight: Not the chill ambiance, not the knowledgeable staff, not the Asian influenced selection of pastries, no. A local patron walked in with the cutest Staffie mix. She was adorable, and so regal. I hope to come back here, and visit the Japanese location too! read more
Fantastic coffee shop with a warm, friendly vibe in a cool neighborhood in Oakland. The staff here couldn't be nicer. The person at the register helped me decide between different items, and the baristas were so fast and friendly. And they make a great latte! The champiñones empanada was the most fun, inventive coffee shop grab and go item in recent memory! What an inspired and delicious upgrade from egg bites or a grilled cheese! They even have a fun Boba menu and a menu from their Tokyo store with Matcha and other cool options like OJ+ espresso!! Stop by if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Used to think this place was top tier, but the last few visits have been mediocre. Empanadas are still good, but the coffee has slipped. My last cappuccino was oversized, too milky, and the presentation was disappointing no latte art and very little attention to detail. Service is still polite. read more

Came across this amazing coffee shop when I was making a bit stop at world market a few days ago. There was plenty of street parking, the location was incredibly clean, and the staff were very nice. They greeted me as I walked in and also made small talk with me while my drink was being made. I did come around a time that it was a little slower so the conservation was quite pleasant. I'll be coming back here on my next stop to Oakland. Thank you to the wonderful staff for making my stop and drink amazing! read more

the atmosphere and people were very nice and helpful. the chorizo empanada was delicious - i just wish there was a salsa or a hot sauce to go with it. the strawberry matcha latte was ok. we also got a vanilla latte w mac nut milk, and that was great. a big plus is that milk substitutions are no extra charge read more

One of the first things I noticed--and appreciated--is how reasonably priced everything is. No extra charge for alternative milks or added sweeteners? That alone earns major points in my book. I stopped by this morning and, yes, the line was long--but the team moved fast and kept things flowing. I ordered the white mocha latte with hazelnut and it was so good--smooth, sweet, and just the right balance. Bonus points for having their own onsite roastery. You can really taste the difference. Also, small detail but appreciated: the restrooms are for customers only. Considering they're in downtown Oakland (Jack London Square), I think that policy helps keep the space a bit cleaner and more secure. They also carry Javi's empanadas--which are legit delicious. I'll definitely be back. They're doing the Lord's work out here because while I begrudgingly pay $7+ for coffee elsewhere, I'd really rather not. All wins. No notes. read more

Overall very clean and nice space. Ordered matcha boba with vanilla and oat milk. Since it's not a boba spot it's not the sugary boba but I with the drink it was good and great option for the location I was in, the closest coffee spot to me at the moment. Quick service. Nice people. read more
Picked up a nutella cardamom kouign amann to snack on for breakfast. I thought the addition of the nutella was quite unique since I usually only see plain ones. The pastry was fluffy and soft to the bite, with a scoop of nutella on top. I would have preferred the nutella throughout for even distribution but I'm not sure if that's feasible with this pastry. The cardomom could be tasted in every bite but was not overpowering. It was super tasty but I would have also liked a more caramelized crust. I really liked that they offer other baked goods from local places like Third Culture. Really nice to have just a walk away from me. read more
I've been in Oakland for years and it's the first time I've visited this coffee shop. Oh my gosh what an amazing place. The coffee is outstanding and the pastries are the best I've ever had. They have these mochi donuts. Whoever thought of such a wonderful thing? The service could not have been better. Custom-made mocha drink for my friend came out in 60 seconds. My coffee was perfect temperature and they have non-fat milk, none of that 2% crap. Dining room is immaculately clean and very coffee roaster looking. Found convenient parking on the street, but would not recommend leaving your car for any length of time. And definitely don't leave anything visible, your windows will be smashed. One of my favorite things here, diagrams for every beverage product. Clear descriptions with images describing exactly what goes into every one of their fufuy coffee drinks. I generally get plain coffee with milk, but it's so helpful for someone who is relatively new to the fufu coffee world to pick a beverage when they have no idea what goes into it. If this place tried they could easily beat Starbucks hands down. read more

We passed by this coffee shop because there was like a pop-up sale nearby. I needed a good cold cup of coffee and this was a really good fix. They had some interesting options. We got their two of their Bicycle Coffee in Tokyo drinks which was the Matcha Lemonade and Espresso Ramune. They were both $5.25 just very reasonable. Staff was super nice and gave me a good recommendations and even mentioned that if I didn't like the drink, they could do something and help me figure out what would work best. I'm is really cool. The coffee shop itself is really presentable. With plenty of seating area and you can also work there since they had sockets where you can charge your laptop, phone, etc. I love the vibe of this place overall in the music that they were playing was cool as well. I just wish they had more locations in the bay. read more

Bicycle coffee has cycled to a new site just across from it's old one. Metered street parking only. Not many. Seating inside and out, just a few. Single barista on duty post noon. Offerings posted on back wall behind counter. Not easy to read. Another copy near entrance would make ordering easier. Offerings: lots of latte variants, a few coffee standards, cold brew, kombucha, empanada, mochi muffins, boba drinks.. Service quick upon reaching counter. Basically order, pour & go. Drink: dark roast drink coffee (3.75) -initially slightly harsh. When cooled, it was smooth... -not as nuanced as some brews, still preferable to most. 4.5 stars not a stellar experience due to parking issues & lack of prior knowledge of offerings. A great coffee ship near the center of Jack London Square, yet a bit off the beaten trail. Seeking out a place for a morning coffee, and knowing that the Blue Bottle location nearby had closed permanently, I located this on Google maps. When I arrived, the place looked closed and shut tight. A sign to the side instructed me to 'turn around and look across the street to the new location'. Bingo! Relieved to find the place, it looked fresh, upbeat, hip, and tastefully designed. They have a huge array of coffee choices, and I just chose a regular 16oz brew. They had a variety of milk mix choices, half/half, whole, oat, and more, that you add it yourself from containers on the counter. I also ordered a morning bun as they had an array of pastry selections. Service was prompt, efficient, and friendly. I got my coffee right away. They do not take cash! There's lots of choices to sit and linger. Patrons kept coming and going, so the place is very active. I also liked that they have doggie treats on the counter for visiting canines, and I saw one enjoy a couple. The coffee was excellent, and the bun was good. All in all, it's a good choice for coffee. read more

I will say the menu showing the amount of coffee and milk in the drink was helpful. I tried to not let all the options overwhelm me but ultimately the customization helped. Now, the drink I created was inspired by cafe in Berkeley. What helped my drink satisfy that craving was it not being overly sweet. read more
