Very nice pastries, friendly staff, and excellent Eritrean-inspired coffee. Also, good WiFi! I may come back here to work sometime.

They have a policy where each person can only try three flavors, in the interest of keeping the line moving. The inside is a bit cramped with some seating inside and a refrigerated cabinet with ice cream based treats, as well as a cute spot for "dog parking" by the door. I really like their giant ice cream figurine outside. The first time I visited, I tried their dark chocolate sorbet and mascarpone gelato. This combination was absolutely HEAVENLY. The chocolate was rich and not too sweet, and the mascarpone tasted exactly like a tiramisu. I am always amazed by how they can get chocolate sorbet to taste just as good as chocolate gelato, as there isn't any milk. The second time, I tried their matcha blackberry ice cream and strawberry sorbet. The matcha was smooth and strong, and paired beautifully with the two summer flavors. The strawberry sorbet is limited to only a few weeks and it's so, so good, like summer in a cup!! This is one of my fave spots in the city for classic flavors with perfect execution. I can't wait to try their coffee and pistachio flavors!

I ordered chocolate because it's my favorite flavor. It was delivered in a tray-like container, which makes it look like more than a pint. Gelato isn't frozen like ice cream, it's semi-solid form makes it easy to eat. The chocolate flavor is distinct and close to perfection. The smooth texture and clean taste, creates a great frozen dessert. It's like someone took ice cream, and made it better. I'll have to try other flavors soon.

Unfortunately, I've tried ordering the Sachertorte twice now; the first time they called back 15 mins to let me know that the choice was out, and if an alternative choice was okay--- and that was absolutely fine as we got the vegan raspberry gelato. The vegan raspberry gelato was incredibly delicious. A deep red/purple color, it has raspberry seeds and is not overly sugary, and holds a sweet tartness. As there is no dairy used, the texture is as expected; not creamy, but similar to sorbet. 10/10. However, the second time I tried ordering Sachertorte, they sent me Cremino al Caffe instead of Sachertorte. A little sad because I'm not a fan of coffee and that I've been looking forward to trying Sachertorte for a while now. I might just need to go to the Oakland Food hall and wait in line to attempt one last time! Friends enjoyed the Cremino al Caffe. As I used Grubhub to order, and the gelato themselves were wonderful, I'll be giving them 4/5 for the unfortunate mishaps. Would try again.

And, you can't tell me it's not because honestly, I can taste it. I kind of felt my face go numb after I had my first sample. Gelato just can't be this good... it just can't! The last time that I had a foodgasm from gelato was a couple years back when I had it in St. Augustine. Now that there's one so close to home, I feel like I might start having seizures from eating it. Have I ever had gelato this creamy? I honestly can't even think right now. My brain is too busy replaying the love affair that I had with their banana coconut and Trepalle di panna earlier today. The flavors, oh the flavors! So many good ones and such a nice variety on deck. They usually have about 10 different flavors available and they rotate a few of them out about once to twice per week. The texture is unbelievable. It's like someone has been churning this creaminess all day and night long. That might be quite possible given the fact that this gelato is produced by a father and son team and made from scratch. Yep, it takes two to create this delicious phenomenon and only one Shayla to eat and enjoy the hell out of it. $4 will get you a hefty scoop of some of the most delicious gelato that you may very well have ever had in your life. I wish I could suggest a few delicious flavors to try, but practically every flavor here is amazing. Plus, they rotate them quite often, so there are always new flavors to try. It's like Christmas but these gifts of flavors are here all year around! Trepalle, I'm looking forward to your permanent stay!

And yes, the cheesecake is great - probably the best rendition of basque cheesecake I've had. I love that it's not too cream-cheese-y in flavor, and the texture is smooth and creamy. I've been lucky enough to try four of their flavors, and each one showcases their signature silky texture and deep flavor. All are not too sweet! My personal favorite is the Kyoto Matcha - the matcha is high-quality, with a vivid green color and rich flavor that balances beautifully with the creamy cheesecake base. The Original is a classic for a reason with deeply caramelized top and creamy interior. I also tried the Iribancha, a roasted green tea flavor. It's intense, smoky, and unique..maybe not one I could finish in one sitting, but definitely memorable and recommend for those who want that earthy/smoky taste. The truffle was also a standout, adding just enough umami to round out the sweetness. Preorders drop via Instagram (@basukucheesecakes) and sell out lightning-fast. Otherwise, plan to line up for slices! Wishing Basuku all the best on their next chapter. Fingers crossed for a return to the Bay someday! Until then, don't miss your chance to try what might be the best cheesecake you've ever had.

It's a good place for a laid-back atmosphere. The restaurant is fast casual. When you enter, you can look at the menu and place your order. It's pretty much self-serve aside from them bringing your food. With that said, the limited interactions we had were pretty mediocre. What's fun is that it's a build-your-own spot. You choose your own pasta and sauce. They also have items such as sandwiches and salads. My best friend and I got the same thing--Rigatoni with Bolognese. I opted for no cheese on top. The pasta was al dente, but I definitely wish there had been a bit more sauce on the meat. The portion was decent for the price, but I do feel like I could make this at home. So if I come back, I'd opt for something else. The Italian Homemade Company has a few locations throughout the Bay Area. This one-off College Ave. is great for a quick pasta pick-me-up. You can find street parking in the area.
