I'm staying in the area for two weeks and this is my second time at highwire. I firmly believe this is the best coffee spot in the area, after trying out a few different spots. It's very small inside with no seating options but they do have some counter space by the windows to stand. The espresso in the latte is perfect, they've definitely mastered their craft.
I've always been a big fan of this coffee brand and usually look for it everywhere I go. Unfortunately, I must say that my experience at the Montclair branch was very disappointing. While the staff members are friendly and the service has potential, it's shocking that a corporation of this size allows employees to openly express political opinions in the workplace. The atmosphere felt unwelcoming and, at times, antisemitic staff wearing political symbols and treating customers differently because of Jewish jewelry is completely unacceptable. Politics should never interfere with customer service. A coffee shop should be a neutral, welcoming place for everyone. I cannot recommend this branch as long as the company continues to allow political statements in the workplace. Business should be about great coffee and equal treatment for all nothing else
Fantastic coffee, scrumptious pastries, lovely whole bean roasted coffee beans. Great spot to stop by before/after the Montclair Village Farmer's Market on Sundays (just down the street). I recently tried the seasonal strawberry latte (iced with oat milk) and while the seasonal flavor was initially very subtle, it actually was SO delicious- it was not too sweet and almost tasted like cereal milk. So, very nostalgic. Their ice is fun!! LARGE CUBES. The space is pretty small inside and the line can get long, but they keep things moving fast! I picked up a bag of beans that I'm excited to try at home. They were roasted just two days prior to the Sunday that I picked them up-- caramel coffee notes to be enjoyed soon...!
Friendly and accommodating staff here. My friend had a good mocha and I asked for coffee with room and they did just that. Parking is a it difficult, but the coffee was good and the staff was cool. A great addition to this area.
I have never made as many acquaintances in a coffee shop as I have in this Highwire. And they serve great coffee too. Their seasonal lattes such as all-spice, cinnamocha and mint mocha are truly amazing! It's a cozy little coffee shop so you can't really sit anywhere other than on the bench outside but it's a great place to grab coffee and walk on the railroad trail or stroll through the farmers' market if you're in Montclair on Sunday morning.
Visited this company a couple times but first time to this location in Montclair. It's a great spot for a casual coffee meet up with a friend or jf you want to have a latte while you answer a quick email. There aren't chairs to sit so be mindful when you visit, they do have a standing window high shelf to place your drink on while you view the bustling streets of Montclair Village. The staff were very kind and patiently waited for us to finish drinks as they were wrapping up for the day. We appreciated not being rushed out by the staff on a slow rainy afternoon in the Oakland hills. Coffee: Matcha Latte (4/5): you definitely know there's matcha in this beverage but they do a good job of balancing it out with some sweetener to make it much more palatable. Comes a little frothy but not like a Starbucks beverage. Wasn't my favorite but they do a good job of executing it. Decaf Oatmeal Latte (4.5/5) Thought they executed well here. Looks very delicious when you get it served, a nice reward for the decision to come here on foot. Oatmeal is not overpowering and the decaf has a good taste. Snacks: Snicker Doodle and chocolate chip cookies (5/5) Full transparency they don't actually make these in house (FIREBRAND) but I do applaud a coffee shop for choosing to sell fresh pastries from quality bakeries and bread shops. Make sure to pick one of these up.
A great local coffee shop! I went here on a recent weekday morning around 9 AM and there was no line. I got a coffee and a sticky bun-both were delicious. Although the sticky bun was overpriced ($5.75), the coffee was a fair price ($3.25) and had robust flavor.
Stopped by here while strolling through Montclair on a lovely Sunday afternoon. Line was short and quick. They made me a fabulous oat milk latte. I always order my lattes with no foam; they accidentally made it with foam, realized on their own and re-made it without me saying a word. Awesome customer service with a smile. My friend had an almond milk latte and the other had a cappuccino. They both enjoyed their drinks as well. Noticed some tasty looking, locally made pastries for sale near the register. Will definitely be back to try these next time!
Quick pick-me up in the area! Let's be honest, if you can support local shops, skip the Starbucks and Peet's next door and come here instead. Great quality coffee, great customer service, and house-made syrups with a seasonal menu tailored and changed to make things fun for the community. They also provide and support local bakeries in the area which I'm a big fan of! To be honest my cookie tasted a bit old, but I'm still happy about my visit and would come here ANY day over the corporate coffee next door!
After about a year of going I decided to bring in my small dog with me to buy coffee. I was turned away immediately with someone yelling at me "we don't allow animals". I've seen other bring in small dogs before but the fact that I was turned away so rudely made me to get upset. I will be taking my business to the three other cafes within walking distance from this establishment that allow my dog to be inside with me.

Highwire Coffee is a new favorite especially as it is minutes away from my besties' house! I ordered the seasonal iced Candied Orange Latte with oat milk which was delightful. The bestie ordered an Almond Milk Latte and enjoyed her drink as well. The staff was super friendly and produced the drinks quickly. Cannot wait to make a pit stop here at this small shop when I'm back in the area. In fact, I'd love to see more season menus and syrups to choose from like the Candied Orange! Cheers! read more

Good service, beautiful presentation, convenient location. Decent mint matcha - the mint is very subtle. No seats inside but 2 nice wood benches outside. Nice branch of a good local chain. Limited pastry selection. Parking isn't easy on the weekend. read more
Best iced chai latte I've ever had in a coffeeshop!!! Most places use a store-bought mix like Tazo which tastes bleh. I can get powdered mixes from Indian groceries for better, objectively. And while I don't expect every establishment to hand-steam their own milk with black tea and chai spices, I do have a snobbier-than-most perspective on chai just since I've had a lot of really good cups of chai in my life! I did see the barista use a chai base that looked like it was reusable jug rather than a standard manufactured carton - so maybe I've found the one?! Furthermore, it actually TASTED better, creamy but still a little spicy, even with almond milk. I loooove. I believe this is a relatively new location. I'd heard of Highwire before but the original locations are a bit out of my way so I'm glad there's now one in Montclair now. The menu is quite streamlined which I like; it gives off a clean, efficient, but still high-quality feel. The service is really friendly and during COVID, they hand you a cup lid with tweezers. So cute lol. The space itself is super small (it replaced the old Starbucks) without any seating. There is a seatless bar counter where you can put your stuff down while you're waiting, but if it's crowded you may be better off waiting in line/for your drink outside. While they do not have substantial food/meal options, they have a small pastry case at the counter and notably... Third Culture mochi muffins! If you haven't tried them before, omg they are heaven! So chewy and sweet and scrumptious. No biggie about the lack of food either; not like there's a shortage of other establishments in the immediate area (House of Bagels, Noah's, etc... and my favorite breakfast sandwiches of all time from Yellow Door). I tried their iced matcha too which was decent. Strong matcha flavor but a little... bland? The chai is where it's at. I'm going to try it hot next time. They have some seasonal drinks like warmed apple cider around Christmastime, so I'll be checking often! read more
This location used to be a Starbucks but they moved to a new space down the street. It had been vacant for a while but I'm glad there's a new space. I tried their Flash, their iced coffee and thought it was pretty strong for iced coffee. We also tried their almond croissant and original mochi muffin which seemed pretty good. Highwire has different locations in the Bay, this is my first time trying them, and since I live closeby I appreciate there being some variety and competition. read more
I'm a new coffee drinker and I appreciate the frills. Highwire is a no frills kind of place. There aren't size options and not much by way of sweetener (simple syrup or vanilla). I appreciate how quick my drink came up and I also get how serious coffee drinkers find this place appealing. The coffee tasted great. I got an ice coffee with oatmilk (score!) and vanilla. I had to add more of both but I will say the coffee has lasted me all day. I wouldn't stop here everyday but when I need a serious pick me up they'll definitely be my go-to read more

My go-to coffee shop in Montclair Village! Unique shop with swift service. Not a place to sit & sip coffee, more a place to get takeout.People who work there are friendly & make fresh strong coffee. The coffee shop also sells freshly made baked goods, some cool coffee beans & accessories. If you are driving, expect to park a block or so away. read more
Quaint shop with quality coffee and fresh baked goods for the day. Came in for the first time and ordered a chai latte with soy milk and it was delicious! I wanted to order a dessert but remembered I was in the area to grocery shop haha. They have an array of roasted bean selections to take home as well as oat milk and drinks on the side fridge. Perfect for a pick me up in the middle of the day or in the morning. read more

Passed by for a latte on my walk. Picked up the wrong order, even though I said it wasn't necessary to remake my original order they still did, since the one in picked up was decaf. Guess they knew I needed the Caffeine. Haha read more

Wow I am SO excited to have this new location of Highwire Coffee in Montclair Village! Highwire is by far my most favorite coffee and we've been going over by market hall until now. I have always been a Peets lover but I do feel Highwire is even better and makes a more consistent cup. I also like that they carry some items from Starter bakery and they say eventually those will be offered in this new location too! The interior was modernized for Highwire in this cute location - Great Wall art and clean modern design. Will be a regular! read more
