Staff here were knowledgeable on the different coffees they offer. The space has indoor tables and outdoor seats. Restroom is a bit outdated. There are a variety of pastries for sale. I bought a tote and a bag of PERFILES CO-OP / PERU that has notes of nougat, fruit leather, brazil nut.

I got an espresso. It was smooth and layered. Mild acidity complimented dark chocolate. Not too bitter or burnt. Would have been even better with more nuanced flavors or sweetness. A solid 3/5 The barista shared that they rotate their roasts so I'd visit again if in the area.

Quickly becoming my favorite coffee around. This Fremont business roasts their own beans locally and makes truly amazing cappuccinos and mochas. Situated in the iconic Niles district, you can grab a cup, walk the antique shops, check out a classic car and even enjoy a tasty brunch at skillet'z across the street before or after enjoying your dose of caffeinated bliss. They're still quite popular these days and take their time making that perfect cup for you, so be prepared to see a line out the door. I need to check out their Renegade shop concept where they also serve food that's more than just pastries. I truly hope Devout sees continued growth so I can get my fix when I'm away from my home turf.

What a nice quiet part of the Bay Area with some character. I enjoyed it. Cappuccino was a little pricey, but still 5-star good. Plenty of parking about 3 min walk away. The worker said "thank you" which makes it above average in the Bay Area. So I like it!

Mocha, Latte, Gibraltar

This was a very cute coffee shop, a the perfect place to chat with friends. It also looks like a nice study spot, but I just didn't see outlets! The coffees were also tasty. We ordered a mocha, latte, and Gibraltar. The mocha tasted similar is Mexican chocolate, which was a pleasant surprise. I have never heard of a Gibraltar, but ordered it since the cashier said it was similar to a flat white. However, I think it's closer in resemblance to a cortado since it is pretty small.

My local coffee shop experts! My first time visit and I'll be back! They actually had a good cold brew at 10ish am in the morning ready to go. :-) My coffee was terrific. The way a cold brew coffee should be for my tastes. I liked; especially surprisingly how available and on-the-go ready it was. The coffee barista was kind and helpful even when he had a line; I believe Tom was his name. I really dig the cozy indoor atmosphere of this spot and only wished I lived closer but this place is certainly worth more visits. I think there was an outdoor area too but I didn't have time to enjoy. There seemed to be a lot of locals like me haha. A shout out to the designer of this shop because the little details really shined and appreciated by patrons like me.

Devout Coffee in Niles is my go-to spot. I'm here at least once a week, often more, and it never gets old. It fits the charm of the neighborhood so well and always feels welcoming. The outdoor area is my favorite part -- perfect for hanging out, lingering with a coffee, or just enjoying the day. The coffee is consistently great, and the staff are genuinely friendly, which makes it easy to keep coming back. It's not just a quick stop for caffeine, it's a place I actually like spending time in. My favorite order: cappuccino & chocolate chip cookie

Peppermint Mocha and an Autumn Spice..oh and some fresh Halo beans
Pete A.

In here on a Saturday ordered an Autumn spice and my wife got a peppermint mocha. Both were very good. Also ordered a bag of fresh roasted halo beans from Ethiopia. Roasted only two days ago so super fresh. Now we're off to the Niles farmers market. Love this area.

Good coffee! Their iced brown sugar latte is delicious. I wish they offered coconut milk but regardless it's good. They have yummy pastries too.

Great coffee shop located in a cute little town. We grabbed a latte and a mocha and both were very delicious. Pastry case had some unique flavored pasties, but come early for the selection. Apparently this town was used to film silent movies back in the days. There is a very nice museum nearby attributed to the silent movie industry. We took a walk with our coffees and chatted with the local store owners along the way. All were so very nice to share their stories. This coffee shop was a great little stop before we drove out of town. Street parking. Casual. Good service. Inside seating. Please come and create your own adventure.

Impromptu walk in. Very happening place. My friends had cappuccinos. I sat and admired the view outside the window. It was a satisfying visit. Will revisit to taste their fare.

Iced Matcha
Shivali S.

This review is for the matcha at Devout Coffee specifically! If you want a no frills, not overly sweet, straight to the point quality matcha, this is the place for you. First off, Devout's location is fantastic and lively. I would recommend to park across and a little down the street in the free public parking lot and take a little stroll over here. I appreciated the modern vibe inside and the indoor seating was quite spacious, it's a nice place to get some work done or catch up with friends. Ordering was made simple and quick with the kiosk at the entrance, and service was quick despite it being busy. I like that when ordering you are asked "for here" or "to go" so that when ordering a hot drink there is less waste being created. My only complaints are that there's no shade provided for a majority of their outdoor seating, they upcharge for alternative milk, although it is about half of what other coffee shops in Fremont usually charge, and there is only one size option for your beverage.

How is it possible that a 4.5oz drink like the Gibraltar gets served in a 4oz paper cup? It's a bit puzzling but I like their coffee though.

Is outdoor seating available?

Yes! There is a cute outdoor space next to the cafe!

How is Covid affecting this business and surrounding business? I'm curious if they are affected with closure, or if it's relatively dead, on a Saturday, in Winter?

In my opinion, they are doing pretty well with making sure they stick to covid guidelines and regulations. They do get busy certain times of the day but the line moves very quickly. Other business from what I saw were doing the same.

Are you open on Christmas Day?

They are closed on Christmas.

Do they serve any beverages besides coffee? Like tea?

yes!! they have teas and hot cocoa :)

Outdoor seating? I'd like to bring my dog.

Yes, they have a cute lil patio. With patio furniture. Also a very nice park across the street and a little bit down.

Does this shop have WiFi?

Yeah Devout has WiFi.

Every single time I'm there, they always are out of their baked goods. How early do I have to be to be able to get some (donuts, cronuts, etc)?

Your best bet is anytime before 12pm.

I was told they only have medium and dark, but the medium tastes pretty light. I asked if the beans were washed or natural, and she couldn't tell me, and wasn't even sure what that was. I should have taken that as a warning that these beans were not the same level as Devout Coffee roasters beans, which is what I usually get. However, since Airborne was cheaper than the beans I usually get from Devout Coffee, I went ahead and bought a pound of Morning Buzz. This morning, I brewed a comparison between the Airborne Roasting Morning Buzz, and my last remaining light roast beans from Devout Coffee, which at that point was several months old, whereas the Airborne beans where freshly roasted. Well, even so, the Devout light roast beans were far superior in taste than the Airborne beans. The Airborne tasted too burnt, and lacked those subtle flavors that make coffee so enjoyable. It was just a one-note band with loud speakers. My recommendation is, if you like a light roast, and sophisticated flavors in your coffee, get something else. I understand a lot of people do enjoy the burnt flavor (Starbucks, anyone?), but I wish they wouldn't have told me the medium roast tasted like a light roast: it doesn't. Note: in the end, with lots of sugar, lots of milk, and some heavy whipping cream, I was able to have a nice cup of coffee-flavored sweetness.

Long story short, our plans changed and found Airborne Roasting on Yelp. We connected with Roland (owner), which turned out to be one happy detour to our new go-to coffee roastery. Jet Fuel' roast has a bold and intense profile that will keep black coffee lovers like my husband coming back for more. On the other hand, 'Morning Buzz' and 'Barnstormer' are for coffee fans looking for more caffeine or milder and sweeter flavors. The best part is we are so very happy to be supporting a family-owned, local business that provides wonderful products and excellent customer service. Also, if you reside in Union City coffee delivery is free!

Didn't really think about it until we've left - Cappuccino was $4.25, meaning that the Cookie Butter Latte was a $10 drink. Apologies but personally, it didn't taste like a $10 drink. Probably won't go all the way there again.

Every time I walk in, the baristas take the time to ask questions about what I enjoy, how I like my coffee, and what flavors I'm looking for. They don't simply take an order they guide you through the process and genuinely seem passionate about helping customers discover something they'll love. It's clear they care deeply about coffee and creating an experience rather than just serving another cup. On my most recent visit, I came in looking for espresso beans. I was originally interested in their Gamut espresso blend but was also searching for something on the darker side. The cashier recommended their original espresso blend over the darker roast options. While it wasn't exactly what I had in mind, I trusted the recommendation because everyone I've interacted with here has been incredibly knowledgeable. A few minutes later, while I was waiting for my order, a gentleman approached me and asked, "Would you like to try something a little darker?" Of course, I said yes. He proceeded to pull a fresh espresso shot of their Opus roast and walked me through the flavor profile. It was exactly what I had been looking for. What impressed me most wasn't just the coffee it was the hospitality. He went completely out of his way to make sure I found the right coffee for my taste. He explained that they didn't have full bags of Opus available yet because they were still in the roasting process, but then generously offered me half a bag so I could pull a few shots at home for myself and my family. I've worked in hospitality for over 10 years, and this is the kind of service that truly stands out. It's the definition of going above and beyond to make a guest feel welcome and cared for. What really stuck with me was that after I tried the espresso, he came back and asked, "How was the finish on that shot for you?" It wasn't a casual question he genuinely wanted feedback and wanted to know if the coffee delivered what I was looking for. When I told him it was exactly right, he seemed just as excited as I was. Coffee can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when you're trying to learn more about different roasts, origins, and flavor profiles. Chromatic does an incredible job of making that experience approachable, personal, and enjoyable. They aren't just serving coffee they're creating meaningful experiences and tailoring them to each individual customer. This level of hospitality is rare, and it's why I'll continue coming back. Highly recommended.

To top it off, nobody asked whether we wanted our food for here or to go, yet everything arrived packed in to-go containers. When we opened one of the boxes, it looked like our food had lost a fight with a tumble dryer. The presentation was so rough that we genuinely laughed because we couldn't believe it was being served that way. Good coffee and food can be forgiven for an occasional mistake, but poor customer service is much harder to overlook. Hopefully this was just an off day, because a little friendliness and a lot less attitude would go a long way.
