As usual, all of their baristas are so knowledgeable, kind, they make good coffee :) I got my usual cappuccino with oatmilk today. We tried Chromatic Coffee and I got the Bonus Cup mostly because I didn't know what it was, but it sounded interesting. The staff described it as cold brew with milk and sweetener, which was helpful, but it ended up being way too sweet for me. That might just be how it's supposed to be though, and probably my fault for not choosing something that better reflects their coffee. The space itself is pretty large, with a good amount of seating inside and a few tables outside. There's also a decent amount of parking, and it's in a shared building with a brewery and other businesses. It has a bit of an unfinished warehouse vibe, which honestly makes sense for a coffee roaster. Only real inconvenience was that the restroom is locked, which feels a little odd for such a large coffee shop. Overall I'd still come back, but next time I'll definitely try an espresso based drink instead. read more

He proceeded to pull a fresh espresso shot of their Opus roast and walked me through the flavor profile. It was exactly what I had been looking for. What impressed me most wasn't just the coffee it was the hospitality. He went completely out of his way to make sure I found the right coffee for my taste. He explained that they didn't have full bags of Opus available yet because they were still in the roasting process, but then generously offered me half a bag so I could pull a few shots at home for myself and my family. I've worked in hospitality for over 10 years, and this is the kind of service that truly stands out. It's the definition of going above and beyond to make a guest feel welcome and cared for. What really stuck with me was that after I tried the espresso, he came back and asked, "How was the finish on that shot for you?" It wasn't a casual question he genuinely wanted feedback and wanted to know if the coffee delivered what I was looking for. When I told him it was exactly right, he seemed just as excited as I was. Coffee can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when you're trying to learn more about different roasts, origins, and flavor profiles. Chromatic does an incredible job of making that experience approachable, personal, and enjoyable. They aren't just serving coffee they're creating meaningful experiences and tailoring them to each individual customer. This level of hospitality is rare, and it's why I'll continue coming back. Today I had the most amazing banana latte ever at Chromatic Coffee. It truly has no comparison to any others that I've tried before. Absolutely delicious and so darn good. From the first sip, I wanted to guzzle it down but slowed myself so I can enjoy my drink. I ordered the banana matcha for my daughter and brought it home to surprise her. She was impressed and loved it. The building inside is fun, my hubby and I decided to take a picture with the sunflower, strawberry cut out. There's plenty of tables and chairs for people to sit. We've had this bookmarked for a while and wanted to check out the hype. We ordered a flat white and a matcha latte. Flat white : 3/5, he described it as decent. Compared to other establishments, it lacked espresso notes and was too milky. Matcha latte: 2/5, disappointing, the matcha is premade in a container. Probably to save on time. Based on past reviews, people complained it was watered down. It was ordered with no ice and a splash of milk (I wanted to be able to taste the matcha.) However, it was still filled it up with milk. They also have small lunch/snack-ish bites like chicken pot pie -- savory and sweet options! I recommend taking the pot pie home and heating it up though; this easily elevated the pie by a thousand points. Espresso was delicious. Service: Kind and helpful staff! Ambiance: Spacious set-up of chairs/tables and excellent lighting. A couple of outlets. Bathroom in the building. Lots of local events/pamphlets for resources posted at this establishment! I have been getting my beans there for quite a few years, their Gamut is exactly what I like. However, I noticed, since the new cafe is open, they do no longer put prices on their baked goods. I remember them being quite expensive, even for San Jose. So, not listing the price is somewhat disingenuous, you have to ask or find out how expensive the goods are when you pay. I really dislike that approach. When I asked the cashier, he was obviously aware of the situation but it seems like that is part of the plan. Again, disingenuous and not transparent. I really dig the vibe of Chromatic. It's in a big industrial warehouse-type space, and has a lot of space for seating and just enjoying your coffee and food. The space also has some cool merch, nice music, and various coffee table books on offer for you to read while you relax. The staff were quite friendly, and the coffee and food was delicious. I used to absolutely love Chromatic Coffee. Unfortunately, as they've grown, the experience has really declined--especially in service. The baristas seem poorly trained, and they don't have a solid process anymore. They've expanded their space, but that just makes the wait and confusion worse. I recently was in their new space and ordered two simple cold brews--no modifications. Where they used to pour it straight from the tap, now they treat it like a latte--and everything takes forever. If you want to linger in their aesthetic (albeit chilly) space, maybe that's fine. But if you just want takeaway coffee, be prepared to invest 20-30 minutes. Looks like it's part of a warehouse with a bunch of other stores, and there's a lot of parking around the perimeter. We got two pies, the bacon, onion & cheddar and then raspberry & mango. Both were really good, our favorite was the bacon, onion, & cheddar. My boyfriend got a hot dulce de leche latte, and I had an iced banana latte. The dulce de leche was sweet and had a very smooth foam top. The banana latte was very banana-y, and not that sweet. Definitely a different take than other places. I agree with the Julia S. review of Chromatic that it is not at all the experience that it was when it started out; I used to come here for an authentic coffee experience, but that experience is no longer there. I am sure the roasters are still dedicated to their beans, but the delivery of that quality on site as a consumer is mostly gone. Unfortunately, the same thing is starting to happen at Voyager as they grow and expand. Milyar still has the authenticity when you get their specialty coffees, which I highly recommend for those looking to still experience coffee with an authenticity that matches the quality of the beans. read more

The coffee shop is inside what looks to be a former construction warehouse and it has zero insulation and zero heating. Super chilly!! Props to the commited dude who was studying in a puffer jacket. Anyway, I got an iced dark coconut mocha with almond milk. Smoooooth. Very easy to down and it's also pretty strong lol. The coconut taste isn't as aggressive like in an Almond Joy, but there's enough of it to give the mocha some slight extra flair. Also snagged the China - Gui Ben Honey coffee beans, ground in-shop for Aeropress. Really spot on with the flavor notes, especially the apricot and caramel!! Seems like there's a high turnover of coffee bean bags here since while I was shivering me timbers waiting for my order I saw a staff member re-stock the bean bag shelf and another staff member assist a customer on choosing a bag. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're a coffee bean bag fiend. Really friendly staff! The cold brew was great. I saw people in line buy beans to be freshly ground and they got a free cup of coffee along with it.
