Really lovely little coffee shop that leans into that industrial warehouse vibe in the best way. The coffee was great--I ended up trying both on-tap cold brews on the day we went because I didn't realize that buying a bag of whole bean coffee came with a free coffee drink. With some coffees a second cup will give me a stomach ache (especially since I drink my cold brews black and bitter like my soul), but I had no problems with their cold brews! I also got the vegan stonefruit scone (baked by Sweet Dragon) and while a little on the dry side (common with scones), paired extremely well with the coffee and had good flavor. Husband got a cappuccino and a strawberry mini pie and was extremely pleased with his order. The service is friendly, but some things may have been new on the day we went. They almost forgot my cold brew until we asked at the counter, as well as stating that they didn't have anything to heat up my husband's strawberry pie (which seems odd, since a little toaster oven seems like a simple fix for that), but apparently it was fantastic at room temperature anyway. Seating was absolutely full when we got there and we were lucky to snag a table as another couple left, so it seems like a popular Saturday morning spot. Several folks were working on laptops, and it seems like a kid-friendly place. The decor is a clean and modern/trendy industrial style, which works well for the space, and the windows provide nice daylight. Overall, a good coffee shop and I am really happy to see vegan pastry options! I decided to try a dulce de leche coffee. While I was expecting a strong caramel profile of dulce de leche, the flavor turned out to be fairly subtle rather than prominent. It added a significant sweetness, but without knowing the order beforehand, identifying the exact flavor would have been tough. We tried Chromatic Coffee and I got the Bonus Cup mostly because I didn't know what it was, but it sounded interesting. The staff described it as cold brew with milk and sweetener, which was helpful, but it ended up being way too sweet for me. That might just be how it's supposed to be though, and probably my fault for not choosing something that better reflects their coffee. The space itself is pretty large, with a good amount of seating inside and a few tables outside. There's also a decent amount of parking, and it's in a shared building with a brewery and other businesses. It has a bit of an unfinished warehouse vibe, which honestly makes sense for a coffee roaster. Only real inconvenience was that the restroom is locked, which feels a little odd for such a large coffee shop. Arrived Thursday morning, they had a breakfast food tent in front, i had it before and it was yummy! They seemed to have renovated and the interior is now well-lit, bumping with music, has lots of seating, books, puzzles, and coloring pages. Very fun vibe which is the antithesis of what it was before. I ordered the banana oatmilk latte $9 but i didnt see the menu with it on it. It is set sweetness. It took maybe 10-15mins, almost every table was taken so pretty busy for Thurs morning. It's been a while to visit chromatic! Came to grab a coffee and we ended up getting some sweets too :) I loved their new setting and interior! They have plenty chairs and tables. They decorated well with their merchandise and beans. Loved that they explained the coffee bean processing types so that people can see and learn. Today I had the most amazing banana latte ever at Chromatic Coffee. It truly has no comparison to any others that I've tried before. Absolutely delicious and so darn good. From the first sip, I wanted to guzzle it down but slowed myself so I can enjoy my drink. I ordered the banana matcha for my daughter and brought it home to surprise her. She was impressed and loved it. The building inside is fun, my hubby and I decided to take a picture with the sunflower, strawberry cut out. There's plenty of tables and chairs for people to sit. AN ABSOLUTE MUST every time I'm visiting Campbell. I'm a simple man, so the iced vanilla latte with oatmilk is usually my go to. This last time I got extra espresso and learned each drink is normally served as a double, so to go extra would be a quad. What I didn't expect was that the latte would still be made to taste!! I picked up my coffee, it was much darker obviously, I took a sip and it still tasted like my usual sweet vanilla! Amazing. Compared to other establishments, it lacked espresso notes and was too milky. Matcha latte: 2/5, disappointing, the matcha is premade in a container. Probably to save on time. Based on past reviews, people complained it was watered down. It was ordered with no ice and a splash of milk (I wanted to be able to taste the matcha.) However, it was still filled it up with milk. A few minutes later, while I was waiting for my order, a gentleman approached me and asked, "Would you like to try something a little darker?" Of course, I said yes. He proceeded to pull a fresh espresso shot of their Opus roast and walked me through the flavor profile. It was exactly what I had been looking for. What impressed me most wasn't just the coffee it was the hospitality. He went completely out of his way to make sure I found the right coffee for my taste. He explained that they didn't have full bags of Opus available yet because they were still in the roasting process, but then generously offered me half a bag so I could pull a few shots at home for myself and my family. I've worked in hospitality for over 10 years, and this is the kind of service that truly stands out. It's the definition of going above and beyond to make a guest feel welcome and cared for. What really stuck with me was that after I tried the espresso, he came back and asked, "How was the finish on that shot for you?" It wasn't a casual question he genuinely wanted feedback and wanted to know if the coffee delivered what I was looking for. When I told him it was exactly right, he seemed just as excited as I was. Chromatic, you guys need to get the oven situation figured out. I know there was a remodel but hasn't it been like years since you've been able to heat up food at this point? It's a huge dis-service to the Dragon Pies too bc they're great when they're hot - they're not cheap either. Sometimes it really is just unacceptably slow as well. You just built out a brand new custom space, it'd be nice if you'd have improved in a way to help efficiency and speed. I know quality takes time! but please consider working on it, or increasing front staff, bc it's the biggest issue w going to Chromatic as a customer, is that it just takes forever sometimes to get a basic drink. I would go there more often but can't really, for this main reason. I'll still give you 5 stars bc I like the beans at home, and the coffee tastes really good to me. I love that it's not a space that seems to be super conducive to professional workers parking w their laptops. I'm so tired of South Bay coffee shops being filled to the brim with laptop heads, and I've rarely seen people taking calls and hogging tables at Chromatic. Found my new study cafe in San Jose Food: Excellent variety of diverse pastries (e.g. black sesame loaf) that are also gluten free and/or vegan. They also have small lunch/snack-ish bites like chicken pot pie -- savory and sweet options! I recommend taking the pot pie home and heating it up though; this easily elevated the pie by a thousand points. Espresso was delicious. Service: Kind and helpful staff! Ambiance: Spacious set-up of chairs/tables and excellent lighting. A couple of outlets. Bathroom in the building. Lots of local events/pamphlets for resources posted at this establishment! Looks like it's part of a warehouse with a bunch of other stores, and there's a lot of parking around the perimeter. We got two pies, the bacon, onion & cheddar and then raspberry & mango. Both were really good, our favorite was the bacon, onion, & cheddar. My boyfriend got a hot dulce de leche latte, and I had an iced banana latte. The dulce de leche was sweet and had a very smooth foam top. The banana latte was very banana-y, and not that sweet. Definitely a different take than other places. If you want to linger in their aesthetic (albeit chilly) space, maybe that's fine. But if you just want takeaway coffee, be prepared to invest 20-30 minutes. Anyway, I got an iced dark coconut mocha with almond milk. Smoooooth. Very easy to down and it's also pretty strong lol. The coconut taste isn't as aggressive like in an Almond Joy, but there's enough of it to give the mocha some slight extra flair. Also snagged the China - Gui Ben Honey coffee beans, ground in-shop for Aeropress. Really spot on with the flavor notes, especially the apricot and caramel!! Seems like there's a high turnover of coffee bean bags here since while I was shivering me timbers waiting for my order I saw a staff member re-stock the bean bag shelf and another staff member assist a customer on choosing a bag. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're a coffee bean bag fiend. Really friendly staff! Nice re- build makes the place much more comfortable vs the bare industrial look the place used to embody. I have been getting my beans there for quite a few years, their Gamut is exactly what I like. However, I noticed, since the new cafe is open, they do no longer put prices on their baked goods. I remember them being quite expensive, even for San Jose. So, not listing the price is somewhat disingenuous, you have to ask or find out how expensive the goods are when you pay. I really dislike that approach. When I asked the cashier, he was obviously aware of the situation but it seems like that is part of the plan. Again, disingenuous and not transparent. I agree with the Julia S. review of Chromatic that it is not at all the experience that it was when it started out; I used to come here for an authentic coffee experience, but that experience is no longer there. I am sure the roasters are still dedicated to their beans, but the delivery of that quality on site as a consumer is mostly gone. Unfortunately, the same thing is starting to happen at Voyager as they grow and expand. Milyar still has the authenticity when you get their specialty coffees, which I highly recommend for those looking to still experience coffee with an authenticity that matches the quality of the beans. read more
