Quick stop for a coffee fix while we were apartment viewing and saw this was the closest spot to us. Parking is readily available on the street and close the Franklin square. Upon entry, everything was super clean! It wasn't busy and most patrons were quietly studying or working on the side like any casual coffee spot here in the Bay Area. We ordered a raspberry matcha and their ube latte. The matcha didn't really have a raspberry taste and tasted bitter from the matcha. The ube latte was a lot more tasty with a slight ube taste. We first discovered What Coffee at a Lunar New Year event and were impressed enough to visit the café before heading back to LA. We're so glad we did. Parking can be a bit tough since it's mostly street parking, but if you're lucky, you might find a spot right by the café. It's worth the small hassle. The atmosphere is great. It's the kind of place where you can comfortably hang out, study, catch up with friends, or just stop in for a quick bite and coffee. The space feels welcoming and relaxed without being too loud. We ordered a hot matcha latte and the matcha mousse cake. The cake was light and not too sweet, which we really appreciated. It had a smooth texture and paired perfectly with the drink. As for the matcha latte, you can definitely taste the matcha, which I love. It wasn't overly milky or watered down. It had that rich, earthy flavor that true matcha fans look for. What a cute little coffee shop! They have a really awesome mural on the back wall I wanted to take a pic of but there was always someone sitting in front of it and I didn't want to bother anyone. There is only street parking, but I was able to find a spot at the end of the street, or there's a parking lot across the street where the other shops are. The ube lattes only come as iced. It was really good, but the ube flavor is very light. Barely noticed it. Coffee flavor was good though. The pistachio pastry was perfectly crumbly and flavorful. They have 2 restrooms. One has an employee only sign that I didn't notice when I used it. Ooops. Both restrooms are nice and clean. Staff was friendly. I loved seeing a decent flow of customers, some to hang out with friends, some just sitting to read or do work. Overall, it has a nice chill vibe. When I'm in the area, I'd go back. read more

Headed over to WhatCoffee based on the yelp reviews and I'm very happy I did! Jawn helped me at the register. Soft spoken and knowledgeable. They were slow at the moment and he took time to tell me about the pastries and the pistachio croissant (which is what they're most know for). He also explained a new drink they just started offering which is a vanilla, honey, cinnamon latte. I of course tried it! Very balanced and not too sweet, definitely recommend. He also mentioned they do everything in house and roast their own beans. Ambiance was quiet for a coffee shop with one other guest working on his laptop. Everything was very clean. Apparently this coffee shop has been here for a year, but I only recently found out because I was looking to get coffee in the area. I don't think they have their own private parking but there were some street parking available. The inside was pretty nice and seemed like a good place to get work done. I wanted to try the grape shaken cold brew but they ran out, so I got a tiramisu latte instead and a pistachio croissant. The service for the coffee was a bit slower than I thought it would be. When I got my coffee, the worker realized she forgot to put espresso in my drink and quickly fixed it for me. Discovered this coffee shop and bakery at a recent event I attended (Hayward Night Market) where I tried a yummy savory treat from their food stand. This past Sunday, just a week later, I visited the Santa Clara cafe and had a positive experience once again. Loved the bright and modern space with unique light fixtures hanging from the ceiling and a variety of comfy seating options for guests (both indoor and outdoor tables available). Service at the front counter was friendly and efficient. There were no labels in the display case so I had to ask about some of the items, and the employee was patient and professional in answering my questions. I ended up ordering an iced mocha, ham and cheese croissant, and banana walnut muffin. The iced mocha was sweet and smooth, the croissant was flaky and served at room temp directly from the display case, and the banana nut muffin was moist and full of flavor. What's more, I appreciated the free wifi and easy parking right outside the entrance, adding to the convenience of paying a visit. read more

Nice, cute coffee shop in Downtown San Jose. Stopped by before work and couldn't tell if they were open around 7am-- didn't see anyone inside and all the lights were off. I came here to do some light studying, and I loved it! It was spacious with great natural lighting, and it usually doesn't get too crowded in the mornings. The coffee was a solid 3/5! Went to What Coffee in Santa Clara and had such a great experience! I ordered a vanilla latte with an extra shot, a caramel latte for my husband, and a pistachio cream donut. The coffee was excellent -- my vanilla latte was smooth, bold, and perfectly balanced, while the caramel latte had just the right touch of sweetness. The pistachio cream donut was the star: fluffy, airy, and light without being overly sweet. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, a lovely spot to sit and relax. I tried their pop up booth at the SF Chinatown lunar new year festival today I bought a chocolate strawberry roll and strawberry donut. The pastries look very aesthetically pleasing and I wish I could have tried more things! It was on the pricier side as the two items ended up costing $17. The donut tasted soft and very creamy inside. The chocolate strawberry roll was also pretty soft and creamy and not too sweet. The staff were friendly and informative. I experienced what coffee at the rose garden farmers market. Fruit tart was flaky and delicious. The custard was so creamy. The blueberry mini cheesecake blew us away .we fought over finishing it and saving some for my husband. Wow. Absolutely perfection - perfect creamy texture and just the right sweetness. I saw someone say this place sells pistachio croissants and I knew I had to bust a mission to check this out myself. The pistachio croissant was so flaky and airy, filled with delicious pistachio cream and a pistachio crust. 10/10. They have a lot of options in their bakery case, you're bound to find something you like. My croissant did cost $8 after tax but it was a treat myself type of day. I picked up some pastries from their stall at the farmer's market - a pistachio croissant and a personal sized mango cheesecake (about the size of my palm). There was a huge line so I was excited. Who could've guessed two pastries would've come out to $20? There were no prices listed either at the stall and sure I could've asked, but there was a line and I didn't want to hold it up. I thought to myself, these better be good for $20! I was really pleased with the pistachio croissant. It was flaky and the pistachio filling was delicious and not too sweet. The mango cheesecake on the other hand... it was inedible. I'm not sure if I'm just not a fan of whatever they use for the base, but the base was black and appeared to be burnt. I tried to avoid eating the base, but I could taste it even about halfway up. It was straight up bitter and bad. Overall, I was disappointed. The latte is decently strng and a pretty standard medium-dark roast. There are some interesting coffee and matcha offerings but they are way more expensive. The tables are very large, which makes it super helpful for studying. There's also 4-hour parking outside, although I don't think it's strictly enforced. The neighborhood and the cafe are both fairly calm. The cafe was so calm when I entered that I waited a couple of minutes for a barista to come out from the back to take my order. The bakery items were pretty popular from other patrons, but they are a bit expensive. read more

i've gone in a couple times and the coffee is different every single time, as well as the sandwich toppings. There's absolutely zero consistency. Sometimes the salad is arugula, sometimes the salad is just rough chopped romaine, and the dressing is different literally every single time. The "coffee" is so incredibly disappointing. I don't even order coffee here anymore, but my boyfriend ordered a chai latte and it was literally just milk with a single pump of chai syrup, not even mixed. We ordered the grape shaken cold brew and it was plenty for the two of us. It costs about $7 total and barely watered down. The seating area is separated and spacious which gives it a great spot for studying and being productive. They also have outdoor seating. Their chairs are the comfiest chairs I've seen at any coffee shop. They also have a parking garage but plenty of free street parking as well. The staff is courteous and does a good job at cleaning the tables. We didn't try any of their pastries but their tarts and croissants look delicious so definitely coming back for that. read more

Another odd experience, but with WhatCoffee this morning. We walked in, as 2 employees were outside discussing the exterior, the yellow chairs were out. Finally, one of them says they don't open until 8 am. It was 7:40 am. My hub was perturbed because they didn't say or acknowledge us when we initially walked in. Totally forgot to review this bright and spacious spot. I went back in November for lunch. There's designated parking right behind the shop. I was looking for new cafes and WhatCoffee popped up. So many options for food, drinks, and sweets! Drinks: Iced Coconut Matcha Blushing Mojito *strawberry based, I think Pastries: Pistachio Croissant Chocolate Cream Donut Matcha White Chocolate Cookie Food: Beef Sandwiches I had the coconut matcha rather than trying the raspberry matcha, thinking raspberry would be too sweet. The coconut version seems to be just matcha mixed with coconut water, sweetener optional. Blushing mojito was non-caffeinated and wasn't too sweet, very refreshing and sparkling. The pistachio croissant was flaky, soft n buttery with a chopped pistachio paste filling. They added rose petal fragments for color and aroma. I would get this again! The chocolate donut reminded me of a Boston cream pie donut with the chocolate top. Kind of pricey at $6. Matcha cookie wasn't great, a bit dry. Beef sandwiches were delicious! Excellent lunch option on toasted ciabatta. Cheese, greens, and pickled onions tied everything together. Now, I'm totally craving this. They may be pretty known for their pastries, but I was discouraged and decided not to order one. I asked someone in the service staff what some of the pastries were because there were no labels, and all they said was, "I have no idea." And didn't even try to ask their coworker.. a little rude to me. We ordered their Grape Cold Brew solely because there are no reviews about it so far! I give it a 3.5/5- you have to really like grape flavors to enjoy this coffee. It tastes a bit like wine! Lesson here in what not to do. So one afternoon I pass by a WhatCoffee stand during a Main St Cupertino street festival and figure it's a great opportunity to try their croissants and bring back home to share with family. I look at the goods and overhear the guy saying to someone else that the prices are $6-$7 per croissant. Then I come back later and order an almond croissant and a pistachio one and the price is $18.53. What!!?? As I'm doing mental math later, I'm thinking that there's no way that the final amount makes sense. Then I replay the sequence in my mind. Before the guy hands me the card scan device he's taking an oddly long time to type all sorts of keystrokes in, and then when he hands the device to me, there's just a final amount with NO itemization. I figure he inputted a fat tip to himself *without* asking me. Gotta be street smart next time. Granted it's just a few bucks but it's shady nonetheless. The croissants themselves were good and came in a very cute orange box. So credit to the bakers and designers here. I thought about going back and asking the guy for an extra pastry for free (since they had plenty of inventory) but I was too busy and had to get to my next destination. A nice cafe! I visited WhatCoffee on a Friday (late) morning and found it pretty busy. The interior was very white, with some plants and a pretty mural on the back wall. They had a good amount of indoor seating (which was mostly all occupied) and a display case of beautiful-looking pastries. For my drink, I ordered a Coconut Iced Latte. Most of the lunch/brunch items were unavailable but the nice employee at the counter recommended The San Francisco sandwich, so I went for it. I also got a Chocolate Banana Croissant to-go. The Coconut Iced Latte was awesome. It was creamy but still caffeinated enough, and I liked the little coconut shavings on top. The San Francisco was also good. I don't usually go for a beef sandwich at a cafe, but this one was tasty. The portion size didn't look very large, but it was super filling, and I liked that it came with a little side salad. I also couldn't resist trying the Chocolate Banana Croissant as soon as I got home - delicious! It wasn't the best croissant texture I'd ever had, but the filling was so tasty and the flavor combination was awesome. Would return to try more! read more

They forgot my husband's sandwich order so they offered a complimentary pastry of my choice while we waited for his sandwich to be fired. WhatCoffee has become one of my favorite cafés in South Bay. I've enjoyed all of the drinks I've ordered so far, like the mocha, pumpkin spice latte, and coconut iced latte. The espresso, sweetness, & flavors are on-point. For food, I've loved the sweet pastries, especially the chocolate banana croissant! However I've not tried the savory options, mainly due to dietary restrictions. (More vegetarian options might be nice.) WhatCoffee does well in other aspects, too. I appreciate the bright, airy ambiance; combined with free Wi-Fi, I've had several productive "remote work" sessions. The service has so far been friendly and welcoming. Although they've only opened a few months ago, WhatCoffee has already established itself in the Santa Clara and South Bay café scenes. I look forward to their continued success. read more

Really confused why the pastries are getting such high praise here. I had the mango croissant and it was quite possibly the most bland croissant I've ever had. It doesn't taste like they are using real butter or quality ingredients. I gave 2 stars for the latte I ordered, which was fine. If you love pastry, I would skip this place.
