If you enjoy lattes that are more milky/creamy, this may not be the spot for you. Hubs enjoyed his coffee and it definitely kept the both of us wired throughout the day. However, the vanilla syrup and oat milk ratio didn't do it for me. The drink consisted more of coffee than oat milk... and to add to it, the vanilla syrup didn't taste good. I had to go back and request more oat milk and syrup to fix the drink. It felt as if I was insulting the barista, oops! The egg sandwich, on the other hand, was delightful although it was on the pricier side. The coffee shop was packed with folks working so we didn't find any seating indoors. Wanted to try a new coffee shop today. Moonwake came up first on the ol Yelpy search. The are located in the same parking lot as the Country Inn right off of Saratoga Ave. When wifey and arrived there was plenty of parking. The inside of Moonwake is rather large for a coffee shop with plenty of seats and space, the outside has about 4-5 small "2 seat" tables. If you walk straight in "and keep walking" you will see their roasting room, that looks like a mad scientist lab with computers and beacons. It was pretty cool watching them proofing the coffee. I ordered a decaf iced Mocha with 1/2 & 1/2 and a Berry pistachio croissant, wifey ordered a regular coffee with room. Wifey's coffee had a delicate earthy flavor. "For regular coffee it was quite good" 4 stars My Mocha even with the 1/2 & 1/2 was good but did not have the body I like. 2.5 stars. "For said items $21.45" The Croissant was absolutely amazing, decadent, buttery, crispy, and chewy. Honestly it's the best one I've had short of Arsicault Bakery in San Francisco. Yeah man these are nearly that good! 5 stars for sure! The service was good and the employees were nice and helpful. Overall rating in my opinion, this place is solidly in the 4 star area. My friend recommended Moonwake Coffee Roasters to me and I'm glad I finally got to try! The area felt spacious when I entered and there were a few customers sitting at tables doing their own work. I liked that the space looked more modern with lots of natural light. Seemed like there is ample seating if you wanted to come and do your work or just sit and enjoy your drink. Stopped by right before closing on a weekday and they had a happy hour with 50% off pastries. They also sell other merchandise and clothing right next to the front door. I got a vanilla iced latte which my friend recommended and it was great! The coffee flavor wasn't too overpowering but still strong enough to give that flavor and it didn't taste watered down. It's a pretty tight space with some small tables/chairs and counter space/stools throughout - definitely a little cramped for doing work in my opinion, though that didn't stop the many people on laptops. I got the orange cardamom latte ($7.50). It was strongly cardamom scented, with a faint orange fragrance which worked well with the coffee though I would've preferred a little less cardamom and more orange to balance the drink. I did try the strawberry basil latte which was surprisingly good - light and refreshing despite being a latte with a cold cream top. Came here with a friend in the late afternoon to catch up 2 hours before closing. The store was PACKED. There was a mix of people studying, working, and chatting with friends; it's a very lively community spot. Despite how chaotic it was, the space was generally clean and the service was great. The cashier made sure to get our names and address us by them. The decor is beautiful, feeling intentionally designed. I thought it was really cool that they have a slow coffee bar area specifically for pour overs (I think) where tech isn't allowed, so people are just supposed to sit and enjoy their coffee. I've never seen that before in a coffee shop. The menu is extensive. Since it was later in the day, the baked goods were half off, which was a nice surprise. I got a blueberry latte and an Asian fusion focaccia bread. Blueberry latte - I liked this! The blueberry flavor was subtle and not overly sweet or artificial tasting. It added a light fruity note to the coffee without overpowering it. Fusion focaccia bread - This was tasty, but I felt the original price was steep ($12). My piece was around 6" x 3". The shiitake mushroom flavor was strong and I loved the addition of scallions and Chinese sausage sprinkled throughout the bread. Overall, this is such a cool addition to coffee culture in the South Bay. It feels like shop from a big city like SF, NYC, or Chicago instead of little ol' SJ. My daughter treated me to coffee and snacks here this morning and it was great! I am normally a "burnt offerings" kind of coffee guy (think, Peet's dark roast) but I have to admit there is merit to being able to taste subtlety in your drink and that is what this place is all about. We had pour overs (speedy), a banana toast with black sesame spread under the bananas, and a Japanese croissant-like pastry called a "shioko-pan". Pastries were great! They have a large selection. We thought both of our choices were excellent. The selection of pour overs changes all the time. It is like wine tasting - they give you a lot of descriptions and there is a pre-purchase decision tasting station that has small paper cups and small pitchers of sample coffee to help you figure out what you want. In addition, they have more normally priced espresso drinks, including Americano, that span the gamut of froth, milk, no-milk, etc. Real barista stuff, including artwork. I am lactose intolerant, so we went with the pour overs The pour over selections were complex in flavor. They are more lightly roasted and carefully brewed than I am used to. Lots of fruity notes and other things happening. I would write more about my selection, but since they turn them over all the time, you will just need to evaluate what is happening that day. They have complete information on sourcing, tasting notes, etc. All really top shelf as an experience. In fact, if you are out just looking for a caffeine and bounce, this is not the place for that. It's really a nice place to just chat and sip. They have some noise treatments on the walls and ceiling to keep it from being crazy noisy. It's not the library, but you can carry on a conversation, which is a nice change. So, our outing probably cost as much as lunch somewhere but it was really fun. The barista who did the pour over was super precise and answered by questions about what he was doing. You should see the ritual - it's all got purpose. There is careful temperature control, modulated sprinkling of the hot water over the grounds, etc. It felt sort of of "Japanese teahouse" in a way. This is one review I've been hesitant to write for a very selfish reason. I've finally gotten over my greedy desire to gatekeep this place. Everyone already knows Moonwake is a great coffee shop, the lines in the morning, especially on the weekends, are clear evidence of this. Even some regulars affectionally call it "Moon Wait" because of the queues. But this place and, more importantly, the people who work here, deserved to be recognized. Moonwake is a bright spot for some great dark coffee! There, I said it. The place is welcoming and has a great vibe. Sometimes you just know when a place feels right. Whether it's the plants all over the shop, the friendly staff dedicated to their craft, the comfortable interior, the amazing pastries (I highly recommend the shoi pan, or salt roll, and the mushroom tart), the bright airy atmosphere, the attentive and inviting pour-over bar, or the great playlists, this place is something special. What a beautiful cafe in an unassuming strip mall, behind a fabric shop. The cafe is bright and airy with live plants everywhere and a beautiful tree taking center stage. Moonwake is my favorite cafe in south bay! From the fragrant teas to the ever-evolving menu, every experience i've had here has been a treat. The service is very fast, even if the line is long. I ordered a plain latte and I really enjoyed the fragrance and flavor: not too bitter and well balanced by the milk. Although the line was long the baristas were super speedy we got our drinks so fast and the cashier was also great at providing recommendations and telling us the details of the items we asked about. We ordered for a group the cryo-cortado, espresso tonic, marzipan latte with oat milk, vanilla with oat milk, and cardamom orange latte. I took a sip of each hehe. My favorite was the espresso tonic as it was very refreshing and I got slightly fruity vibes which I really enjoy. The cryo-cortado was very interesting it was extremely creamy and coated the tongue was a little salty. The lattes were good and nothing super crazy imo my least favorite was the marzipan one I think I'm just not an almond syrup fan. For a snack we got the black sesame banana toast heated up and it was phenomenal, I'd highly recommend trying it. The drinks quickly arrived after ordering, which was impressive given the line. The baristas clearly knew what they were doing, and the latte art was stunning. I tried the cardamom orange latte, and both the cardamom and orange flavors were extremely faint. It was a solid latte but nothing exceptional (minus the pretty latte art). My friend tried a pour-over coffee that he really enjoyed, which was supposed to have notes of honeysuckle and kumquat? I didn't particularly enjoy it nor did I taste the honeysuckle/kumquat, but I'm also not a coffee enthusiast. I was excited to try the miso browned butter pumpkin bread. And let me tell you, it was love at first sight, we knew we had to make this our parent meetup spot for the academic year. The ambiance felt very cozy and welcoming, there's even a raised seating tree well with small trees, which is something I've not seen in a coffee shop before. There's lots of tables of various sizes, and in the back there's also a long bar-stool height table that easily houses 15+ people. I tend to come a little earlier at opening to try and grab a third or half of the table before our crowd comes. The menu has quite the assortment, many of them asian inspired. They have both delicious food (the egg salad sando with fish roe on top is A+) along with the drinks. I try something new every time, and nothing has disappointed yet. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. They were so patient as I ask questions or let me decide what to choose for the day. The clientele have also all been quite pleasant and accommodating, and sometimes we have a polite and friendly chat to pass the time. Overall, we've been so happy with our choice of locale to host our group regularly - parents often tell me how delicious and tasty it is, and we have built a much stronger community, with Moonwake as our foundation. I was meeting a friend for coffee and she is a bit of a tiktok matcha connoisseur. I wouldn't have known about this place otherwise. The line never stopped but the service is quick. It is a bustling space inside in an otherwise quiet strip of other businesses. Parking is free on the street & lot but when we left at 10:30 am, it was packed. If you arrive after 9:30, be prepared to sit outside. I had the mocha with oat milk and my friend had the iced matcha and egg sando with caviar. At over $7 per drink, I wasn't super impressed. The twice-baked berry pistachio croissant could have used more tartness to balance out the sweetness, and the fruit and pistachio flavors weren't as pronounced as I expected. The miso brown butter pumpkin bread was probably our favorite. We really enjoyed the subtle saltiness, which helped enhance the sweetness, though with slightly less sugar, it would have been perfect. The cardamom bun, on the other hand, was very cardamom-forward and a bit overpowering for me (and not as good as La Cabra's). That said, if you're a big cardamom fan, you'd probably enjoy it. For drinks, they offer some cool pour-over options and even let you smell the coffee grounds before brewing, which was a nice touch. I ordered the hot matcha with extra matcha and half sweetness. It was good, but not worth waiting in a long line if matcha is all you're there for. We went on a Saturday around noon and waited about 15 minutes. There's always a line every time I come to this spot. Fortunately the line moves at a good pace. I really enjoy their drink and bake goods offerings. Seemed like there's a rotation on their menu. E.g the corn cream coffee I had last time is no longer on the menu. For such popular/decent size cafe I wish they have more than one bathroom. Definitely enjoy coming here if wasn't for the constant crowd this place has and how busy it is. read more

I loved this place as a coffee shop. It's ideal to get some work done or catch up with a friend. The lighting is great to keep me productive and noise wise people may be chattering but isn't overly distracting. The person taking my order was also super patient when I couldn't decide what I wanted and gave me suggestions on what I may like. The place is clean and also has a parking lot in the plaza. The coffee felt like good quality. I got the Milo mocha which was flavorful and gave me more of a caffeine boost than mochas from other places. I'm also Cantonese so loved mix of bringing the Asian nostalgia into a coffee. You can taste the quality of their coffee beans too. The only thing is that it's a bit more on the pricer side for coffee but I would still go there for meet ups and to get work done since the quality was good and is a great space to do work. read more
