Tico Coffee Roasters have become my go-to place for whole beans coffee. I've experienced a few of their roasts and the Black Tiger is my favorite. About 6 months ago I made a switch from the convenience of my Keurig to buying quality beans, grinding them myself and make proper Americanos instead of popping in a pod and pushing a button. I've done a lot of experiments with beans and so far I haven't found better beans than the beans I pick up from Tico Coffee Roasters. I really appreciate to have roasters of this quality in my neighborhood! Coffee is like wine, the better the quality is, the less you need. I used to go through 4-5 Keurig pods every day, but I'm plenty fulfilled by 1-2 cups of coffee made from Tico's beans. So even though it seems like I'm paying more for coffee with Tico, I'm not. This is one of the best coffee stands that I have been to in a while. When I first arrived, I thought it was just a brewing company that didn't serve the public, so I was glad that they operated a stand. I order a cappuccino and tried their coffee of the day: Sanger de Toro. To begin, the drip, tasted very smooth with a slight acidity, but not too much. The cappuccino with a base of Rialto had the bold, dark chocolate, and rich taste that was advertised, and the foam was fine to perfection. It's in an industrial area with car repair shops, so if you're in the area for that, it is definitely worth checking out; it is also worth a special trip for. The service was fast and friendly. I loved this little coffee truck! It was pretty hidden and tucked away behind all of these warehouse looking buildings, but once you found it, it was perfect! No huge crowds, it was pretty quiet and easy to grab my coffee. I ordered an iced mocha. It was delicious! The coffee quality seemed pretty good to me - smooth, strong and tasty. The girl working was very kind too. She mentioned that there are special monthly drinks! The drinks are a reasonable price considering the quality of the drink ($6). I was finally able to try their coffee fresh. I had received a bag of cafe de olla as a gift. I noticed that they are located in Campbell, which is only a 15 drive. Since they aren't open on the weekends, I went today (Tuesday). It's more of a warehouse, where they roast and bag the different blends. Not really a coffee shop.There's a small mobile coffee stand in front where I was able to purchase a latte. I was also able to pick up a bag of beans from the warehouse. read more

Seen them at the garden at the flea and wanted to try their hot chocolate. Was hoping they had other speciality type of drinks but not so much just a peppermint one. Tried the hot chocolate and it was okay not much to it just your regular hot chocolate drink. This place is more for those into coffee since they have your normal variety of them! The definition of a hole in the wall. If you don't know where it is, you'll probably miss it. My best suggestion is to turn where the flags say coffee, and then just keep going down that small lane past the random garages. Here they sell whole beans as well, so if you like grinding your own coffee it might be a nice place to check out new blends and flavors. I had a black Americano and it was just what I needed to get through the rest of the day. I think I would definitely come here more if I was a coffee connoisseur, instead of being like me who just drinks coffee for caffeine. One cool thing I heard is that a local school came to this shop to learn about coffee production. So if you are in education, that may be an easy field trip to look into. read more

Awesome light roast coffee in an industrial setting! Recently discovered this place after working in the area for over a year.

Google Maps came up with Tico Coffee Roasters as a non- Starbucks option, so we went to check it out. When we arrived, we drove down an alley with industrial shops and I thought, dang, it's just the warehouse where they roast coffee. You don't notice at first, but they have a little coffee trailer where they serve coffee, latte's tea, etc. The latte was a smooth, great tasting cup of coffee. Was nice to try a non-chain for once and the gal was very nice serving us. read more

I visited the shop 3 times in the last 2 weeks, their business hours are 9ish to 4ish. First visit 9:30 am, not open. 2nd visit 10 am, not open, 3rd visit 9:15 am, not open, call number, someone answers, I ask, "Are you open today?", answer "Yes, we are", I respond " I am at your front door and no one is here", answer "oh, we won't be there for another hour". Trying to support local business and a fellow Tico, but not worth my time anymore. Tried to stop by before going to work, and even attempted going later in the morning to hope and catch them open but with "whenever I feel like business hours" does not say much for the rest of services. Was looking for quality coffee, not that typical commercial branded stuff and happened to hear about Tico Coffee Roasters. I stopped in to see what they offered, and was really satisfied with their selection. I was helped by Marianna, who is the business owner. She gave me wonderful recommendations, out of everything, I went with the Yirgacheffe Kochere (from Ethiopia), and the Confite Black Honey. It was ground on site for me and I tried one right when I got home after work. The Ethiopian one was fantastic! Really bold flavor and I could taste the slight hints of peach/apricot, and early grey as the description described. Will have to try the Confite black honey another time. Whats great is that they hold classes both in house and at different locations, each time delving on another topic, which is great if you're looking to learn more about your coffee. I definitely recommend paying Tico Coffee roasters a visit if you're seeking high quality coffee beans! read more

Love the quality and attention to detail from this little shop. The coffee is great. The fact that they know who is growing their beans. Really. Know the growers, as in walk the hills and have a relationship with the people growing the beans lets them pick the absolute best. Lots of love here and it shows in the product. I just happened to come across this Roaster because I had a really bad cup of coffee at a Peet's nearby. So I typed in Roaster near me on my phone and Tico's was one of the shops that came up. I did stop by another roaster that served coffee, so I had a much better cup to satisfy me for a while, but I was in the area and thought I'd check them out. Their shop is located in the back of a little industrial building, so it was kind of weird. At first I had reservations about coming in, then I thought a lot of beer brewers are in the same atmosphere and I do that a lot, so why not? I was on my coffee journey. I'm so glad I did went in! I didn't get the name of the gentleman who greeted me, but he was very welcoming. He was just starting a batch to roast and invited me to take a look at the selection he currently had and was helpful with information and available for questions. We had a nice little chat and I bought 3 bags of coffee. My daughter was a roaster and I was excited to share these with her. She tried the Andradas sul de Minas the next morning and LOVED it. I didn't get a chance to make my cup as I was running late, but made my cup this morning. It was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! What a great way to start the day. My husband and son said the same. We'll go through this bag pretty quickly and can't wait to try the other 2 (La Esmeralda and Cajamarca). If you stop by, don't feel put off that it's not a coffee shop or store front. I felt very comfortable and it was interesting to see "behind the scenes" of a roaster. I'll be coming back with my daughter to if anything by a couple more bags of the Andradas. I have been having Tico Coffee for over a year now and I just became a reviewer on yelp so that I could tell people about my experience with their coffee. I can tell you that if you are looking for quality coffee from people who know what they are doing, you go here. The owners Marianna and Thomas are very friendly and helpful,as they need to be to help you sort through all the selections of coffee that you can choose from. I normally like to have the Costa Rica La Minita blend of coffee, but I also like the Magnolia decaf and the Ethiopian blends as well. Though I must confess I have not tried all of the blends but I am kinda like a creature of habit. The thing I love about their coffee is that they are smooth with complex flavors and have a non-bitter finish to the pallet. These are the types of coffee that make me feel bad to add cream sometimes because I feel it diminishes the aroma and flavor of the coffee. Simply put, their stuff beats the tar out of the Starbucks or Peets blend of coffee that you get in a pinch when you need a fix. If you are a person who likes coffee or just wants to introduce someone to coffee there is no better choice. Go and try it. read more

Although I had liked the coffees I had tried, I was even more fortunate to meet Marianna and Thomas as they were showing off their coffees one day at a food fare. I enjoyed learning about the coffees they sell, the process of how coffee is farmed/prepared, their backgrounds, and their commitment to their products. I subsequently visited their shop in Campbell, received a quick tour, and had a good chat about their successes getting the coffee into stores and workplaces. Marianna reco'd their Los Lobos coffee based on my particular tastes, and its a winner! With all the brands and varieties available, finding the one that is really "you" is pretty hard.
