We sat in the back and it was really cozy. There were upholstered chairs around small tables, more like a club than a coffee shop; I loved it! The front area is brighter and sleeker than the back; more like what I'm used to in a coffee shop. The pastries in the display case looked wonderful, but since we were going to lunch, none of us ordered anything other than coffee. I had a small cappuchino and I think others got cappuchinos as well, another small and two mediums. The small was $5 and the mediums were $6. Meh. I've been here twice and I have to say, it's just an average overpriced spot. That does seem to be the trend nowadays with coffee shops, but still... First time, staff was friendly and my cappuccino was good. Not great, but good. The Place was crowded, but not terrible. However, most people were on their laptops "working". Second time, place is packed and almost everyone is on their laptop "working". Feels like a wework cafe. Staff? Seemingly bored and not thrilled about my order. I asked for an espresso with a significant amount of steamed milk and foam. What I got? A dribble barley filling the bottom of the cup (which was to go, and I ordered to stay). Upon arriving, the cafe had such a cold and unwelcoming feeling. Pastries were displayed poorly.. 1 of each pastry displayed with the box of pastries visibly sitting on the counter as the employees were actively cleaning 2 hours before closing. Seeing the box of pastries, likely sourced from somewhere else was kind of a turn-off for me. Walking in here took me back to what it felt like when you walk into a tattoo & piercing shop on haight street lol. After receiving what felt like annoyed glares, we took a moment to look at the menu, and noticed they had juices and decided to try that out. However, I didn't realize they don't juice your drink on the spot. Instead it comes from a giant container where they've already juiced it. For some reason that was bummer for me since I spent $7 on this but I also acknowledge the juicing is a lot of work, so I understand why this is done in advance. What a fun spot to meet for coffee in Walnut Creek. Love experiencing new spots in the East Bay to connect to WiFi, have meetings, and cozy up on the laptop to get work done. I ordered a Tuscan Avo Toast ($12) that came with sliced tomatoes and a drizzle of balsamic fig reduction, lemon ricotta, avocado, and micro greens. Yum! The use of the lemon ricotta was chef's kiss. Back to Tellus for the five-star coffee and to try more food! But before we get into it, we came back because we met the owner's Mom yesterday in Benicia. Odd? Yes! Awesome? Double yes! Mom told us that Tellus just opened a new location in Danville--which we look forward to trying since my brother lives there. It's about time Danville got a great, non-chain coffee shop! And Mom also told us that her daughter makes all the pastries for Tellus. (I wonder if they sell to Philz? As per my first review of Tellus, the pastries look the same!) So, after visit with Mom, we had to come back to the WC store today. And I FINALLY got the waffles! Hubby had a wild blueberry muffin, and we both had almond milk lavender lattes--half the normal syrup. My waffle is/was a delicious as it looks! Slightly crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside. Topped with fresh and sweet strawberries and blueberries, and what tasted like real maple syrup. W's muffin was "better than the average muffin" and he was very satisfied. He didn't give me a bite. In fact, I looked up after splitting the waffle in half, buttering my half, and pouring some syrup on my half, and that muffin was GONE! lol! Out of all the independent owned-and-operated coffee shops in the Walnut Creek (and Contra Costa County) area, I would have to tip my hat to "Tellus Coffee" as they are arguably one of my personal favorites on my list. Located in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek on N. Main Ave and adjacent to Cypress St., this very popular coffee shop has been serving delicious hot & iced beverages dating back to early-2021. And since I had other shopping to do at nearby Broadway Plaza (only a 5-minute walk from here), what better way than to get fueled up on delicious coffee and a bite to eat to start my day. I came here with my lady during the morning of Friday 7/4/2025 at around 9:25am. Since it was a holiday, all street parking did not require payment as we were able to park right across the street. Even though it was a holiday, the business was thriving with customers. The hours are accommodating but don't come too early as they open daily at 8am (9am on Sunday) while closing for the day at 4pm. Before I talk about what's on the inside, the exterior of the building showcases a traditional brick wall design complete with the business name in a very classic green oval trim. As for the interior layout, this place exemplifies what a coffee shop should look like; bright, open, airy, inviting, and quite dazzling with a ton of greenery displayed along the rear wall. The green trim continues along the walls surrounding the coffee bar area while at least a dozen green lights hang from the ceiling. Finally, they offer ample seating complete with leather chairs, loveseats, and booths to truly maximize your coffee tasting experience. Much of the coffee is grown and sourced from around the world; places such as Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, and Indonesia. Here, they specialize in a ton of custom-made lattes (with a nice assortment of syrups), espresso drinks (in hot or iced form), pour overs, loose-leaf teas, juices, and smoothies. And as for the food selection, they have a great variety of pastries, bagels, baked goods and croissants as well as more filling items such as empanadas, waffles, overnight oats, breakfast sandwiches, and avocado toasts. And if you decide on coming later in the day, they also offer traditional sandwiches as well as a nice assortment of beer and wine. After looking at the menu (prior to coming here), I ended up ordering an iced "Brown Sugar Date Latte" complete with their "Avocado Toast". The toast itself uses whole grain Levain bread with a mashed avocado, Harissa red chile paste, chickpeas, sprouts, and pickled onions complete with a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette. Total cost after tax + tip came to around $25. My drink arrives in just a couple minutes and had the perfect consistency of bitter and sweet. Meanwhile, the avocado toast was made to perfection as every place I've eaten at has their own unique twist on it. Tellus Coffee is no exception as this was above average. My lady even loved her drink/food as she ordered a hot "Cafe Vanilla Latte" and a "Kouign Amann" pastry; think of it as a croissant with strawberry glaze and cream cheese. Overall, this is a legit coffee shop that I highly encourage anyone to try out. Their menu is modern, eclectic, and progressive as many of their food items are exclusively made with ingredients that you don't normally find at your basic coffee house. With exceptional customer service, great tasting coffee & bites, an aesthetically pleasing yet cozy interior, and a perfect location in the heart of Walnut Creek, I am giving "Tellus Coffee" a perfect five star rating. read more

The music is very loud, usually making it hard to talk to people or to focus. I first came here a little over a year ago. Since then, they have changed their menu, and I have to say I miss the old menu. My favorite food item was taken off the menu, and my favorite syrup and mocha latte have been removed. That first day was the best cup of coffee I had had. Since then, the quality has continued to decrease. The Chai latte I got today was good, but it was lukewarm when served and lacking in flavor. Overall, I wish they would bring back the mochas, orange syrup, and salmon avocado toast. It has always been pricy, but now that I am repeatedly not enjoying what I order, it is more frustrating. Tellus coffee transports you to a tropical plant retreat when you step in. I was not expecting that! I just happened to hesitantly walk while exploring Walnut Creek. The back half of the shop has a plant wall covered in what looked like tropical greenery. An almost mysterious plant paradise. The front half is sunny and warm with a big window. Very interesting. Don't sit among the fun plants in front, the area is full of flies. It looked like such a cool area, right near the window so you can people watch. We were shooed away by the flies, they just kept landing on us. Maybe during different times of years it's better. They have fans over there food so I think the flies are an ongoing issue. They have a great selection of pastries. We didn't try any, but they had a huge selection, all laid out behind glass. It says they have empanadas. That perked my interest. We came in here for an iced green tea. We asked if they had it and we were told they had a mango passion tea, then the one gal asked her coworker and was told all of their hot teas could be iced. They made us a hot tea and put ice in it. The ice melted instantly. We asked for an additional cup of ice and poured it over the cup of ice. It wasn't as strong as we anticipated. We've had better. It was still light and refreshing. They have a clean well stocked bathroom. Parking is street parking and that is tough to come by. This is a great place to stop by if your'e in the area. I don't think I would seek it out on its own due to the parking situation. There were several people there on their laptops by themselves. There was a family there too. And two other couples and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit. Due to it's October 20th they are ready for Halloween. I don't leave negative reviews because I understand how much they can impact a small business, but this experience really disappointed me to the point that I took an hour out of my time to sign up on Yelp and write this review. I discovered Tellus about 4-5 months ago and have been coming almost every weekend for an açaí later smoothie and a breakfast sandwich. I genuinely enjoyed the place and even told friends and family about it. I also learned about their "buy 10 drinks, get one free" card and was happy to participate about three months ago. When I went in to purchase my 10th drink, I was told that as of January 1st they no longer honor the punch cards. While I understand policies can change, I asked if they could honor it since I was already on my 10th purchase and had been incentivized to continue buying with the promise of a free drink. I assumed the manager would understand, but unfortunately, he refused and said I still would need to buy my 10 cup to get a free one and we no longer are honoring it. What bothered me most is the principle. Over the last couple of months alone, I've spent roughly $25-$30 per visit sometimes more when bringing my wife and kids easily over $300 the past 10 visits. Refusing to honor a $6 drink to keep a loyal customer happy felt unnecessary and dismissive. It's not about the money, but about trust and goodwill. The incentive encouraged continued business, and not honoring it left me feeling taken advantage of.
