Iced Matcha Latte (supposedly)

The service was fine, we came to get my daughter an iced matcha latte before her long day at school. I waited in the car while my daughter went to order her drink. She came back with what looked like milk so I asked her what she got and she said a matcha latte. I had to check the bottom of the cup...saw a small amount of settled matcha at the bottom. Since we were in a rush to get to school on time, we left. I did take a sip and it tasted exactly the way it looked. It was basically sweetened milk.

I'd like to give Panache 5 stars because the drinks were delicious and beautifully presented, but the scones were a disappointment. We paid for two and they were tiny and thrown on a plate. Maybe they should've just put them on the side of the cup? Otherwise, convenient place to get coffee if you're in Lafayette, plenty of seating. Didn't try the Wi-Fi but others seemed to be working

Came here with my good friend because we were craving Milk Tea and she lives in Orinda, so this was the closest spot we could find! It's a quaint mom & pop shop right on the outskirts of downtown Lafayette. They have mostly drinks with some assorted pastries, and I do wish they had more food items on their menu. The space is quiet and peaceful! I thought the decor was comforting, and no overly loud music or chatter. I would definitely come in to do some work the next time I'm in the area! Parking is mainly street metered parking, and there is a plaza nearby where I am sure you could park as well if street parking was limited.

Stopped in to get a coffee. Not much flavor and super weak and the temperature was warm and not hot. Disappointed.

Came by on a Saturday morning and there was a small line outside this tiny shop (only a few people…read morefit inside at once). The pastry case is small, but everything looked fresh and well-made. Limited selection, but solid classics: kouign-amann, croissants, morning buns, bear claws, and quiche. I tried the ham & cheese croissant, and it was right up there with many of the top pastry spots in the Bay. Really well done. What surprised me most was the coffee. They don't serve drip, so I ordered a $3 large Americano--and it ended up being the highlight. Smooth, rich, hot, and just a touch of half-and-half made it perfect. It has a nice neighborhood feel, and most of the people inside seemed like regulars. A simple, friendly spot worth stopping by if you're nearby.

I'm convinced it's impossible to order anything "bad" at La Chataigne. My favorite is the bear…read moreclaw. Less like a donut shop bear claw and more like an almond croissant; with almond paste inside, a touch of cardamom, and caramelized, crispy "claw" edges. Second fav...any of the quiche. I usually get one of the 4 vegi options but the ham and gruyere is no less delicious. Minus one star because the line on the weekends moves very slowly - but it's a very small shop with room inside for just 3-4 people at a time. Work on the street is that they are moving across the street soon, next door to Sideboard, and will have much more room then. I can't vouch for the coffee because I don't like coffee but I hear it rivals any of the other coffee options in Lafayette. Wish I had pics to share but they are in my belly. Bon appetit!

The latte was okay, but the food definitely took center stage. The staff were very friendly and well-intentioned, but the communication was lacking. Our entire group found the ordering process to be quite confusing. It wasn't immediately clear where to go or how the flow worked, which took away a bit from the otherwise great vibe. Overall, a great spot for a meal.

Didn't know there was a Sideboard in Lafayette! Had to try it. Same menu, same pastries and baked…read moregoods, same food plating, and same ambience as Danville. What I didn't like is that no one comes out to check any outdoor tables that need to be cleared. I went in and asked a young man behind the counter if someone could buss a couple tables we were hoping to sit at. He didn't smile. He said he'd do it for us. Well, he never came out. I found another older gentleman if he could clear out some tables. He happily obliged. With a smile! And said, "I will do that right now." While we were eating, it was this same man who cleared tables. He's the best! Friendly and always smiling. Meanwhile, the first young man I asked originally, walked past dirty tables. He walked by a dirty table twice. Anyway... we ordered: Flat Iron Steak Sandwich - flavorful and delicious Avocado Toast - I love that the avocado is seasoned. I wish the bread was a little more toasted and that the arugula was seasoned or drizzled with olive oil. SB Cheddar Burger - I love that their patty was well-seasoned bursting with flavor! Delicious!! The fries were also great! Enjoyed the ketchup with its smoky flavor.

Will we get good or mediocre drinks today? Will our drinks be accurate or would we need to spend some more time to get our drinks fixed? Always a gamble, but hey, I do love to gamble (usually in a different setting lol). Sometimes the drinks are really good. The ones I've had the most consistencies are their house milk tea and their tropical fruit tea. Recommendation is to order everything as-is since if things (such as sugar level) are adjusted, it's most likely watered down. Luckily the drinks aren't way too sweet, but still a bit sweeter than I'd like, and I'd prefer a bit more tea flavor. My daughter has been big on their Thai tea, but after some inconsistencies with flavor, she's switched to their matcha horchata drink. Pretty good, and they have other kinds of drinks like that too. My son likes the house milk tea with lychee jelly, and the husband enjoys the Oreo drinks here, but they don't taste right in my opinion. I like their house milk tea, jasmine milk tea, tropical fruit tea, and once a while, their ube taro drink. On the safe side, I normally stick with tropical tea and house milk tea at this location. Props to Lilikoi for having some "unique" drinks such as mango almighty (mango smoothie with tajin and chamoy), various horchata drinks, and more. They seem to specialize more in the tropical fruit teas, so highly recommend for those.

Since I went close to when they first opened, I thought they would get the kinks worked out so I wanted to try again before I judged. I came today (2/4/2025) after a doctor's appointment. I noticed they have ube coffee on the menu. Unfortunately, the employees told me they were out of ube. I ordered the Thai milk tea with no ice at 50% sweet. Given the heavy rain and cold weather, I asked if they could make the drink hot and they said they don't do hot drinks. Really? Every boba spot I've been to in the 4.5 years I've lived in Contra Costa County - including Sharetea, Mr. Green Bubble, Teaspoon, and Yi Fang - offer hot drinks. Everywhere EXCEPT Lilikoi. As for the drink itself, I could taste the Thai tea flavor somewhat but it seemed a bit watered down. I've had better Thai milk tea elsewhere. The drink cost $5, which is less compared to other boba spots. But I'd rather pay a bit more for drinks that don't tasted watered down. I don't think I'll return, even if in the area.
