Headlands Lafayette has become one of our favorite spots to enjoy a beer, or two. We really appreciate the low ABV beer choices that have flavor, especially the Pt. Bonita pilsner. Also, Cargo Shorts is an all-time fave when on the tap list. The food is awesome! The smashburger is a must! And how can you go wrong with loaded nachos or an all-beef hotdog? You can order both food and beverages from the QR code at the table, or order at the window. We prefer the QR code, and always have a nice chat with our servers. We appreciate that there doesn't seem to be much turnover on the service side which means the business side must be pretty good! There are several choices for seating. First time to any Headlands location and the experience was positive. A combination of good service, easy downtown location and killer smash burgers seems like a winner. Seating, mostly outside, was sparse on a warm February Saturday, but we managed to find a table facing the street . Out of the flight of 6 beers, all 6 were good for the style, but none stood out as something I would take cans home. The beer is solid, if more on the average side, but the setup and food would bring me back to Headlands if in the area. Another + for big TVs... if there is a game on, I can totally see Headlands get very lively. The only downside is that most of the seating is outside, so check the forecast before heading out. read more

We have been wanting to check this place out for a while. Visited on a Sunday it was a bit cold but the fire pits are very nice. I enjoyed the outdoor fire pits makes a huge difference. Walked in and was ordering and the guy working the cashier wasn't too friendly. I ordered the hot cider and he mentioned they were out so I just said I would take a regular cider and in a rude tone said, I said I was out of the hot cider which I didn't order he just maybe wasn't listening but it felt pretty rude. We sat outside and enjoyed our drink and decided to visit the Walnut Creek location since it was right down the street and I'm glad we did. Overall this location is nice and cozy, good selection of drinks and food but because of our experience with the customer service and having more options for food and drinks at the location we will just visit there. read more

Came here after my son's first varsity baseball game thinking it would be the perfect spot to celebrate. Their website talks about a relaxed neighborhood vibe, but that wasn't our experience. Strike one: parking. I circled for a while and ended up in a small lot that looks tied to the business. Within 5 minutes I had a ticket. Not city parking, a private company. We saw at least four cars get ticketed while we were there, and one person told me they were towed. It also seemed like enforcement was constantly walking the lot. Maybe that's not the case, but it definitely felt that way. Not a great way to start. Strike two: atmosphere. Before we even got settled, staff had already said something to our 2-year-old for walking around the outdoor area. We go to plenty of breweries and wineries and have never had an issue. It felt pretty uptight for a place that's supposed to be casual. According to their website, dogs are welcome, but it didn't feel like kids were. We seriously considered leaving right then. Strike three: food and seating. I ordered a smash burger with a Beyond patty. What came out was basically a frozen puck thrown on the grill until it hit temp and then served. No smash, no effort, just the minimum. Chips on the side were minimal. We were also sitting on a bench with no table, which made eating awkward. Maybe there are better setups elsewhere, but that was our experience. "Always room at the table" only works for those fortunate enough to have a table. Only positive: the beer. The beer was good. I had the Second Bloom and enjoyed it. We came to celebrate a big moment and instead dealt with tickets, getting corrected by staff, and a pretty underwhelming meal. This is my first time to this location having been to the Walnut Creek location many times and this too is also fantastic. Stopped by on a Friday afternoon and enjoyed the beautiful Fall weather on their patio! Lots of fun seating options and a great crowd! Enjoyed their Hazy IPA with nachos and pretzel! I've been here a few times with my boyfriend and friends. It's a good spot to hangout with spots indoors and outdoors (though it looks like there's more outdoor than indoor seating). I like the layout of the space, it's inviting and the outdoor area in particular is great for kids to roam around. The smashburgers here hit the spot. I most recently tried the black bean burger out of curiosity and really liked it. Good beer, good food and good times! The one drawback I'll say is parking. I really wanted to like this place, but from the start we should have packed up and left... 1) Parking is an absolute nightmare. Even if you park in the parking lot designated for patrons of the businesses, you'll get ticketed (like within minutes!). They have poorly marked "reserved" spots, with zero clarity on who they are reserved for (if you even notice the painted "reserved" on the asphalt.) You're left to guess if it's for patrons of the businesses or for who?! 2) While waiting in line to order, my 2 year old was being 2 playing around us and she was told to stop "running" by an employee. We usually love breweries for their family friendly atmosphere, but this isn't that kind of spot. 3) We ordered 3 subpar burgers which came with a small handful of basic potato chips, 3 kids meals and 2 beers.... Nearly $150! 4) their only saving grace was the beer was good. If you're an adult only party just looking for good beer, then you'll be happy with this place. Just beware.... The outdoor seating is comfortable with heaters to keep you warm, and I believe they also have live music at times, which is really nice! Food-wise, I got the smash burger, which was just okay - kind of small for the price and took about 20 minutes to come out. Not sure I'd order it again. On the other hand, I really enjoyed my 13 oz Solar Black Currant Sour, though at $9, it felt a bit pricey. My friend, my partner, and I popped into Headlands Brewing for a bite and a beer. From the moment we walked in, service was friendly and welcoming. The gentleman was happy to let us sample different beers, but it didn't take us long to zero in on ones that we each liked - and we all have very different tastes. My friend ordered the smash burger and a sour beer. My partner and I split a vegetarian black bean burger; he ordered a dark beer (no porters here, but he found something similar he enjoyed), and I had the 'Party Wave' lager. There was some kind of snafu where our food order got lost in the shuffle. When the staff realized it, they bought us a round on the house, which was super nice. Everything was good. The beers complemented the food nicely. I enjoyed the black bean burger, and my partner did as well, although he's typically very much a meat-atarian. Nice seating outside. We sat on the patio overlooking Mt. Diablo Blvd, which was lovely and allowed us to enjoy the outdoors while remaining under full shade, which I was grateful for. The cuisine was mediocre, but the service was commendable. My sister lives nearby and recommended that we stop at this place on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It was soooooo hot outside but we braved the heat and decided to go. The business has an air conditioned indoor area, covered outdoor areas, and the turf area with umbrellas. It was so accommodating. We sat with 4 adults and 2 kids outside at one of the fire pits on the turf (fire pit not lit bc HELLA HOT). You can order from QR codes outside, at a window on the outside or inside the taproom. The staff was so friendly and the food was delicious. They have different types of burgers, hot dogs, nachos and other goodies. The beet on tap is delicious, especially the IPAs! Wow, would definitely come back here and try their brews and more food! I went to Headlands for a small event and we all sat outdoors. There wasn't many shade opportunities tho. They have indoor seating as well. There was a spot outside to order your food and drinks and the process was easy. Water outside too, which was soooo appreciated since it was a hot day. They do burgers, various sausages (including vegan ones), and a bit more. I got their cheeseburger and it was a smashburger and was excellent. Came with a side of chips as well. The husband tried their sausage plate with the hot link and a polish (?) sausage and he enjoyed it. He isn't really social, but I was glad to hear him say he'd try more stuff here, which is a great sign! The kids got their plain burgers and they ate it all up. Good stuff. Re drinks, my husband got the frozen pink lemonade. It was gorgeous. I tried their CBD sparkling water, blackberry flavor. It looked pretty neat- all cloudy milky white, and it tasted pretty good. What left a bad taste was the attitude of the person working the counter. She didn't greet us and acted as if we were bothering her. It looked like she was multitasking so it wasn't clear that she heard our order. We ordered the frose' and the sausage plate. She poured two glasses of a white wine and we said, that we ordered the frose' and she mumbled that she wasn't done. Being our first time ordering this we understood as she dispensed some frozen rose colored goodness into the glass. Okay! Despite our shocking lack of customer experience, we had a nice time on the spacious outdoor patio. Our plate arrived promptly and satisfied our cravings. Very nice space, solid beer, pretty good food. The space is big with lots of outdoor and some indoor seating, very welcoming, kid and dog friendly. The beer is mostly great! The hefeweizen is one of the best in the Bay Area and the Oktoberfest beer was quite good. I was a bit disappointed in the Christmas spiced beer (it just didn't have much flavor), but I've liked other beers of theirs I've had at other places. The food menu isn't huge but what we got was quite good. The smashburger was a bit small but very tasty. The all beef frank with sauerkraut and mustard was simple but good. Great, friendly service on a Saturday afternoon where we enjoyed tasty smash burgers (cooked on a flattop grill right by the outside ordering window and served with chips and pickle) and delicious beers! Also scarfed down their sausage plate with hot links that were notable for their flavor and decent level of heat. We just came here for the first time and we loved it! We brought our infant son and sat in the shade out on the patio. There were so many great beer choices, as well as a frosé and a special frozen drink called the Orchard Frost, which was basically a frozen hard cider. Awesome! Sweet and refreshing, perfect for a nursing mom or someone who isn't really into beer. The staff were SO kind and helpful. We loved all their recommendations. We tried both the chicken carnachos and the double smash burger.... AMAZING. We would come back here just for the smash burger! We came right after church, when they opened, on a Sunday afternoon. It was easy to find seating, but I imagine it gets busy quickly during the late afternoon. But when a brewery has great food, happy staff, and good company, of course it's busy!! We stopped in for a beer after lunch next door. It was around 1pm on a Saturday and it was VERY crowded. We each ordered a beer and got some to go. I was a bit surprised at the number of kids. While I like kids (I am a parent) it was a lot more than I expected in a beer garden. One star off for that. We sat in the edge of a deck and enjoyed our drinks. The beers were good. My husband thought some of the food he saw being brought out looked pretty good. When we got home and I looked at the receipt I saw we were charged for 3 beers, when we ordered 2. Another star off. This is why I always ask for a receipt. Not sure why you have to ask these days. Not sure we'll be back to this location. I heard there is one near BART in Pleasant Hill we may see how that one is. read more

This is Headlands OG location and you can tell the staff enjoys working here. I met Traci, the GM, and she's one of those old school hospitality vets who really knows how to build community because she knew pretty much every customer's name, including the dogs! I also love their outdoor smash burger station where you can see, hear and smell the patties sizzling on their flattop grill. Headlands seems to know how to create a backyard vibe that's welcoming for all sorts of demographics...well done! For beer, I recommend their Pt. Bonita Pilsner and whatever West Coast IPA they're rotating in. Headlands makes the clear, filtered IPAs and pale ales that I tend to enjoy most. read more

Got called out to gather at Headlands Brewery in Lafayette. First off parking is a nightmare. So I'm a little unnerved after finding one and walking a block to the place . Upon entering you have seats inside but my group choose to be on the patio which is a nice open space surrounded by fire pits and umbrellas . Chairs aplenty so no worries there. Checking food menu appears basic bar food . I did order smash burger off the grill 8/10 and the pretzel 6/10 basic. Really there for the IPA's to try a few new ones . I ended up sticking with a Hazy IPA which was cold and excellent to taste 10/10 Service was a little slow but place was packed so we had to travel back inside to order more drinks and food. They gave you a # tho so u could they would bring it out to you which was great . Music playing , good vibes as we were able to chat and catch up . Heard they do have live bands on occasion. Check the weather it got cold pretty fast once sun went down . Will be back for the Smash burgers and to try a hot link out . And of course for the beer. read more

I still say Northern California can compete with anywhere in the US for great breweries. We finally got the chance to come here - we're not in Lafayette that much but we did like the place a lot. Beer was good and being able to bring your dogs is wonderful. Would give five stars if it wasn't for the stampede of kids running freely all over. Screaming and doing as they please without any supervision - that's what would keep us away. But outside that we liked the place a lot. I hope they do something about the playground atmosphere of the place and realize it's for adults - this is a nice place. read more
