Spring berry spritz

Love that this place takes a homage to my Filipino roots with their pulled pork silogs and Ube pancakes. We loved the spicy maple syrup that accompanied the fried chicken and waffles. The chicken was also moist and well seasoned. Steak salad was average and pretty much on par with any other restaurants. Drinks need room for improvement. The old fashioned was the worst we've ever ordered.

I had been to the restaurant that was previously at this location a few years ago and had been wanting to try The Hideout Kitchen. I came here this morning with some friends and we really enjoyed our meal! First, I LOVE that they take reservations online via Open Table. We have been to other restaurants for brunch that don't take reservations and had to wait 45-60 mins to get seated. I arrived a few mins early and was immediately seated after checking in. My friends were running late so I appreciated that they didn't make me wait until the rest of the party arrived. The entrees we got were the ube pancakes, tomato soup and grilled cheese, chorizo tacos, and a Benedict. The ube pancakes were a generous portion and the ube sauce wasn't overly sweet. I tried a piece of the grilled cheese one of my friends ordered, which was perfectly cheesy. Though I didn't partake as a non-meat eater, my friends seemed to enjoy the chorizo tacos. Friends had mimosas and a lychee martini. Next time I'll have to take uber or Lyft there so I can enjoy them without being too drunk to drive! Waiter was friendly and we didn't have to wait long for the food or check. We had a great table outside. Although we were near a lot of car and foot traffic, we could still talk and hear each other at a normal volume. I'd love to try the grilled cheese with tomato soup on a chilly day, which are probably far and few now that it's spring. Maybe next time I'll try the brioche French toast or the breakfast burrito.

Fried chicken - one of my favorites!

We love The Hideout! Been coming here for a long time, maybe 10 years ago when it was near the Soccer Post. Everything I've had there is fabulous! The owner JB is a great human! He helped many local businesses during the pandemic!

This is a good place to come after spending time at the Lafayette Reservoir! They have lovely outside seating and a casual atmosphere, but feels slightly upscale too. We were seated immediately, but it took about 10 minutes for a server to come to our table. However, he took our drink and food order quickly and took good care of during our visit. We went for brunch/lunch on a weekday. They have a great variety of options for food, something for everyone! We started with coffee, which tasted good and I liked the mugs and little pitcher of cream alongside. There was a little bit of the grounds in the coffee, but not so much to make it unpleasant. To eat, I had the steak frites. It's not your traditional steak frites, which was nice to see! The chimmichuri sauce was the perfect topping for the steak. The fries were cooked to my liking (not too crispy) and the steak was seasoned well. If I were to order it again, I'd ask for medium rare as opposed to medium to make it an even better eating experience. However, it was delicious! The other people in my party had the smoked brisket panini and the honey fried chicken. Both of these dishes were delicious as well. The chicken is one of their best selling dishes. If you're looking for a good spot to eat and have drinks after hiking around the reservoir, check out The Hideout Kitchen!

Continues to be go to brunch place but this time I would rate it 3.5 stars We ordered curry chicken wrap - though flavorful it could do with more seasoning, less burning and moisture or curry. Frittata has always been our favorite but it was also dry, I liked it when they served it in the baking dish itself. Drinks were good. Chocolate martini and bubbly both were good. Being Easter Sunday their kitchen was backed up. So it took them solid 30 minutes to bring the food. But after that they did get us the spicy aioli and were quick to serve whatever we wanted. We liked the previous location a bit better but atleast this is more open. All the parking spots are paid and only coin or credit card are accepted. Three hr limit on the parking.

Great menu. Nice ambiance. Tasty food. Nice service. Ample parking. Reasonable prices. What more can anyone want? Highly recommended, and we come here often from Danville.

I dined at Hideout with a group of colleagues after a long training day. Great experience. We enjoyed both indoor and outdoor space. We landed at a table in the bar for happy hour - this is where my only critique comes in. The chairs at the high tops in the bar are "half stools" - not enough seat to rest comfortably on. Each member of my party commented on them as they sat down and groaned when they stood up later. We then had dinner on the patio and it was delightful. We shared a few appetizers - the mascarpone toast was the surprise favorite! Then a range of entrees - each one of them delicious. Hideout achieves that perfect blend of homey and chef-driven. True comfort food without feeling heavy. Our server took great care of us. I'd highly recommend this spot. Just choose your chair carefully.

Meatballs and polenta appetizer (Feb 2026)

Came in for a pre-movie dinner on a busy Friday night, and other than a few minor issues, we had an overall excellent experience. We got seated in the back room which was cozy and not as loud, which was great. Our server was friendly and put in our order quickly after we let him know that we had to try to make a movie time in nearby Walnut Creek. Because the restaurant was pretty busy, it was understandable that the kitchen was also handling a lot of orders, and all things considered, the food came out pretty quickly overall. The wedge salad was an excellent portion and had a different type of dressing than your usual blue cheese, and even though it was lighter than a typical blue cheese dressing, it was very flavorful, and the salad was packed with tomatoes and crispy bacon, along with crisp iceberg lettuce. The French onion soup was bubbling hot and rich, and the meatball and polenta appetizer included tender, nicely seasoned meatball over creamy polenta and a rich gravy. The polenta was chunkier than we prefer but went well with the gravy and meatballs. The boneless honey fried chicken was outstanding, with crispy skin, tender meat, and drizzled with tasty truffle honey. The potato fennel mash was smooth and salted nicely, and the sauteed kale with dried cranberries had good texture and flavors. Both sides complemented the fried chicken well. We were in a rush at the end to leave to get to the movie on time, and getting the check paid took a little longer than expected, but that was pretty minor. There are plenty of other menu options that we would like to try again in the near future and look forward to coming back soon.

Nice restaurant tucked in & away from any riff-raff. The food was catered so I can't really say much about that. The place was clean, well lit & organized but I did feel welcomed for the area that it's in for the most part. The service was ok, I've experienced worse.

Double Cut Pork Chop (did not come with a steak-knife, took me 5-mins to flag someone down to get one; in the meantime it got cold).
Thomas S.

It was a lovely evening to sit outside but the service was atrocious. They have a service level problem which is a shame bc the food is actually good. There was confusion between two server for our entire section of 6 tables, which led to delays in getting water, taking orders, receiving food (our chicken wings came our slow and was cold), (did not get a steakknife for my double porkchop, so the food got cold, I eventually flagged down the hostess who got me the correct knife vs a butter knife), and checking in the taste of the food (did not happen). I ordered an expensive dinner and it came out cold. Not great. I'd say I am 0-2 at The Hideout now. It's just not worth the service difficulties - every table in our section had delays and difficulties. It is so off-putting that you'll want to leave. Btw they add "+3% service fee to all transactions" which you'd think would equate to the commensurate level of higher service. Hope they can improve bc the hostess was great, the food was very good, and the ambiance is solid. Despite that I'm not sure I'd ever come back. Yes, that's how badly the service staff is run there. Poor experience, good (cold) meal.

Food and Drinks were very tasty and of high quality. We ordered the cheeseburger, the Sesame Seared Ahi, one of the beers from their rotational tab and a cocktail (Manhattan). For desert we had Marianne's Mid Pie. We sat on the patio with our dog and the service was very friendly and efficient. The patio is very inviting and tastefully decorated. We will be back!

I love the hideout kitchen. On a nice day, sitting on the patio, I'm swept away to somewhere else. I feel like I'm on vacation and everything on the menu is a delicious getaway. Every time we go, there is a different menu. Brunch is one, happy hour (mid day offerings) and then there was dinner. I'm sure those rotate items as well. The food is great, lots of savory options that are on the healthier side. The meatballs and polenta, mussels, brussels and salads were delicious. This place is dog friendly, they have a nice patio for your well behaved best friends. Service was friendly and the whole place is just nice. Highly recommend.

It was near closing time when we got there, but we didn't feel rushed to order or eat our dinner so that they could clean up and close the restaurant and head on home. We started with an appetizer and garlic bread (see picture). We had about six pieces of bread and as you can see in the picture, it was on the burnt side. I cannot believe that for the price you pay for a bread, they would serve this. I also ordered a black coffee, but it tasted like it had been sitting there since the morning and tasted really nasty. I asked to have a hot tea instead. Food was good. We ordered spaghetti, carbonara, some chicken dish, and a grilled salmon. All the food tasted delicious and we cleaned out the carbonara and spaghetti. After we ate our dinner, they gave my son-in-law a slice of tiramisu with a lighted candle. Overall, it was a pleasant evening and we enjoyed our food (except for the garlic bread). I'd like to see them do me good and give me a nice garlic bread the next time I eat here.

The beers were the best thing, then the shishitos. Our cheese plate was completely INEDIBLE. You could tell that it had been sitting out for a very long time because the cheese was sweaty and some pieces were MOLDY - like the edge piece of a hard cheese after it's been in your fridge for a while that you cut off and throw away. The grapes were shriveled as well. Not sure how this is acceptable to serve. Supposedly it was made earlier for room service. All they did was take it off the bill and barely apologized - we were in a hurry since it took about 20/25 minutes for everything to even come out and could not wait for them to remake it. Idk, it was appalling and I was hoping for more restitution. Will not be recommending.

Wood Tavern met the criteria for a relatively nice American restaurant in North Oakland. We visited for lunch and wanted to make this special for our mom, so we were perhaps a bit overdressed in business casual, but this is Oakland after all. On an ordinary Thursday, there were multiple groups waiting outside for the restaurant to open at 11:30 AM. That in itself should tell you how popular this place is. My wife and I dined at sister restaurant Southie next door a few years ago and really enjoyed it (I also rated it five stars on Yelp), so I was confident Wood Tavern would not disappoint. I initially booked our reservation using OpenTable to link it to my account and get 100 points. Since the max party size for Wood Tavern on OpenTable is four, I had to call to get it changed to eight. Due to the large party size, the restaurant also required me to give them my credit card info and be subject to a $25 per person no-show fee. Upon arrival, our tables were ready for us in the back corner near the open kitchen. The restaurant is true to its name with a shared bar and dining room space that evoke the feel of a wood tavern. As for what to order, I recommend all of the dishes we got. It really just depends on what you like and/or what you're in the mood for. Everyone loved the food. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, the pastrami was one of the best I've had anywhere, my mom raved about the seafood stew, my brother-in-law gobbled up all of the casarecce, and the burger was outstanding. Service was polite and speedy. Our server Sophia C was awesome. Happy Mothers Day to all the mommies ! This is my first time coming here and it's Mother's Day so…read morelet's get into it ! First it's a nice sunny day ! We have tried to come here before but it was super packed no parking and it was night time . This was months ago . This morning my man surprised me by bringing me here again for Mother's Day breakfast/brunch . We got there right when opening and the inside was already full ( people made reservations for Mother's Day but they had outdoor seating which is covered from the sun and has heaters ) They had a special menu for Mother's Day today so a lot of what you might see on the regular menu may have not been on today's menu . Our waiter let alone the rest of the staff were very nice and polite and kept wishing happy Mother's Day to everyone . It was very nice . Now food ! Ofcourse you know I got oysters . They had 5 different kinds to choose from but I got the dozen with all of them ! All fresh ! Some were more sweet some more Briney some more creamy . All of them were good and the shallot vinaigrette was the cherry on top ! He got the tortilla soup and we shared the cheesy crabby bread . He dipped it in the soup ( boys lol ) and sad it was good . My personal opinion I love the bread they used ! And nice flavor with out taking away from the nice amount of crab they put on it ! The steak Cobb salad was a very nice portion and the steak was cooked medium rare just how I like it . I was expecting it to be cut up pieces but no they gave you a whole filet which is nice if you want something light and filling I'd definitely recommend this salad . The clams were amazing ! The sauce was so savory just added a dash of lemon and I was in heaven . Plus the cheesy toasted bread they give you to slurp all that excellence lol top tier . Crab omelette was made with egg whites only no yolk , and had ample amount of LUMP crab meat no skimpy at all ! Potatoes were seasoned nice . And the waffles ( which comes by itself heads up that's why we ordered sausage and bacon as a side 8$ each kinda pricey. But we're very thick and good ) the waffles comes with a berry butter spread fresh fruit . Fluffy but still crisp. The limoncello mimosa flavor wise loved the limon but lacked the mosa part . Overall I'd highly recommend and want to come back to try more options . It was nice seeing all the happy families and the cutesy babies all around . Today was a beautiful day thankyou Wences !
