Quick fact before I do my review: Before officially being in a relationship, The Hideout Kitchen is where we had our very first date. And it was at the former location. So what better place to dine in to celebrate out 2nd Year Wedding Anniversary at The Hideout Kitchen :) We went for dinner. Our server was KEVIN. Simply...HE IS JUST AWESOME. He knows the menu, he knows the history, and has amazing stories to share with everyone. Great guy. A lot of people there that night seemed to be celebrating something. The noise was a bit loud that I felt I had to almost yell to have a conversation with my husband. But the vibe was great. I enjoyed looking around at the decor. We ordered: - TRUFFLE FRIES for appetizers - I loved everything about it. haha. Tastey! - linguine & clams - I ordered this. It was good. However, I felt it was way oily. And after every bite I took, I had to wipe my mouth. And I accidentally spilled oil on my shirt. - PASTA ALLA CARBONE with steak - My husband enjoyed it and started to get full towards clearing out his bowl haha. - SCALLOPED POTATOES - I ordered a side of this. Definitely was not expecting to look the way it did, but I thought the presentation was beautiful. It was good; however, I was not a fan at how crunchy and hard the top first layer was. In a few areas, it was almost burnt. But I thought it was pretty good without the need for a type of sauce on the side. - For drinks, I had to Summer sangria and my husband had the Rumble in the Jungle. We enjoyed it. Definitely hit the spot. No complaints at all about these drinks. - And Kevin surprised us with a dessert to celebrate : Cranberry Bread Pudding. This was delicious. Very flavorful. I am not really into Cranberry, but this is definitely an exception. Loved the fruits on the side as well. The Hideout Kitchen will always have a place in our hearts. We will definitely come back. 3.75 stars. The Hideout Kitchen's front patio on a warm morning, as well as their sophisticated interiors, make this eatery a good choice if atmosphere is as important as the food itself. I noticed a couple Filipino-inspired dishes on the brunch menu -- Pulled Pork Silog, & the one we tried, Ube Hotcakes. Fluffy & coated in a deep purple sauce, but they didn't posses the distinct taste of ube. My Breakfast Burrito was very well put together, & so hearty, I could only get through half. Every bite saw a dip into the tasty hot sauce. And like the five-year old that I am, I loved that tater tots were a side option. I wouldn't make the drive from my neck of the woods specifically for the Hideout Kitchen, but should I find myself in Lafayette again, I wouldn't say no to an invite here. read more

Very cool spot to chill out and have a nice dinner or just a couple drinks We went during a concert night and we couldn't have been happier. Good music, good service, good food, good night! I've been here numerous times for breakfast but not lunch. Today we ate here for lunch and wow it was fantastic! We sat on the patio that was very relaxing. We ordered a curry chicken wrap that was so flavorful! Pure deliciousness!!!! It consisted of curry chicken with red and green peppers, apricots, raisins and quinoa. Omg!!! The spice yogurt to accompany it was fantastic! It came with a side of crispy sweet potatoe fries! So addictive! Service was excellent! Slowly making our way through Bay Area brunch spots. Came here with some friends to change it up from our usual spot. We met up a little after 12 PM. There was some parking but the lot was full and you had to pay to park. We didn't have a reservation, but they had tables open for those without them. I ordered the Pulled Pork Silog, the garlic rice and the fried egg on top were really good, the pickled onions a nice touch, the pulled pork didn't have much flavor and I probably wouldn't order this dish again. I also ordered the Pomelo Spritz, I was disappointed in this. The glass was half full and it was mostly ice. Wouldn't order a drink again. To note they do not have bottomless mimosas at the moment. Came here with some friends for the first time and overall did enjoy it. This area has an assortment of great brunch/lunch spots and there is paid parking. This location does take reservations, but we did show up without one and were able to be seated at the barstool tables. Staff was very friendly and attentive and the menu had a number of amazing things listed. We all ordered something different, but I got the Morning Glory - which is a breakfast sandwich with a side salad (the salad was amazing). The sandwich was very filling and delicious. Why not 5 stars? The drinks. 3/4 ordered the same cocktail for about $18 each. The glasses were half full if even and mostly ice. I do not mind paying for a drink, but for $18 I expect to get a full glass. Bottom line, I would come back for the food, but would pass on the cocktails. read more

Lafayette is such a gem of a place. While in the area, we stopped at this local spot on a beautiful (and hot) day. We opted to not sit outside, rather inside right by the exterior seating to still get the vibes but also some AC. I love places like Lafayette where all the businesses support each other and help each other grow. Their brews on tap are mostly all local, and we grabbed some Pilsners sourced from Lafayette's new brewery, Western Flyer. So fresh and crisp. Can't wait to also check that spot out. Food-wise, we came in mid-afternoon and grabbed a Kale Pancetta salad (they pre-split the salad for us on two plates which was so nice), and for the mains, we both grabbed the Tuna Melt with fries. The salad was delicious. I'm def a tuna melt girly, and I loved the addition of the ciabatta (?) as the bread option, so fresh as well. This tuna melt comes with grapes fyi, and a few other elements mixed in. I absolutely loved it, just sharing though as I know how some tuna stans like their tuna :) This spot is clean, spacious, and perfectly situated in walking distance downtown. Would love to come back for brunch with a group of friends, or even again during the upcoming Lafayette Art & Wine Fest. Food is good, service is quick and friendly, and vibes are right. We stopped by The Hideout Kitchen in Lafayette for a quick lunch while we were in the area and grabbed a table on the patio. The vibe inside is luxe, the food has great presentation, and the menu had a lot of tempting options. Since we were there for a light lunch, we ordered the chicken cobb salad and the grilled cheese with tomato soup, but a few things tasted a bit off from what we expected. - Chicken Cobb Salad: light and refreshing, packed with fresh greens. But it needed more flavor overall - the dressing was super mild, the chicken was dry, and the blue cheese was so light it honestly tasted like feta - Grilled Cheese + Tomato Soup: comforting, but I wished the bread was thicker and fluffier, like a milk bread or brioche. The soup was nice and creamy but too salty to enjoy by itself Overall a pleasant spot with a lot of potential - I think there are just small tweaks that could have been made. We started here for dinner before heading out to a concert. Dinner was perfection and so were the drinks. I never know of this little gem of a place in Lafayette until my friend raved about it. I'm happy she suggested it before we headed out to our concert in Oakland. My friend had the boneless Mary's chicken, yukon & russet mash, braised kale, truffle honey and I, blackened salmon spanish spices, brown rice & quinoa pilaf, roasted vegetables, pesto. Solid experience once again. We came for Father's Day brunch. Friendly staff and got seating right it away. As expected but linger for food but still reasonable knowing every table of this large restaurant is filled with other patrons. Shrimp and grits. The shrimp large juicy and had natural sweetness. I love sauce but this was a bit over sauced for me. My son love his steak eggs and fruit. Pork Silog was ok. Garlic rice was great, pork was a bit one note. I had been to the restaurant that was previously at this location a few years ago and had been wanting to try The Hideout Kitchen. I came here this morning with some friends and we really enjoyed our meal! First, I LOVE that they take reservations online via Open Table. We have been to other restaurants for brunch that don't take reservations and had to wait 45-60 mins to get seated. I arrived a few mins early and was immediately seated after checking in. My friends were running late so I appreciated that they didn't make me wait until the rest of the party arrived. The entrees we got were the ube pancakes, tomato soup and grilled cheese, chorizo tacos, and a Benedict. The ube pancakes were a generous portion and the ube sauce wasn't overly sweet. I tried a piece of the grilled cheese one of my friends ordered, which was perfectly cheesy. Though I didn't partake as a non-meat eater, my friends seemed to enjoy the chorizo tacos. Friends had mimosas and a lychee martini. Next time I'll have to take uber or Lyft there so I can enjoy them without being too drunk to drive! Waiter was friendly and we didn't have to wait long for the food or check. We had a great table outside. Although we were near a lot of car and foot traffic, we could still talk and hear each other at a normal volume. I'd love to try the grilled cheese with tomato soup on a chilly day, which are probably far and few now that it's spring. Found this place on yelp because I was in the area, looking for food where my dog could come with. First off the service was fast and I love how attentive the workers are, we were trying to be in and out quick before traffic so that was a huge plus. I was worried since it was lunch time but again it was fast and worked out. We ordered the Pulled pork silog and Pasta puttanesca for main orders and a side of tomato bisque. Our favorite was definitely the soup, it was a bigger bowl which was perfect to share. I'm very picky about tomato soup and this is one of my favorites, the flavor is so good and not just only tomato. The puttanesca was also my favorite of the two, I love that they put sooo much olives (if you're not a fan I'd ask to take it out or put less), and the pulled pork was just okay. This is a good place to come after spending time at the Lafayette Reservoir! They have lovely outside seating and a casual atmosphere, but feels slightly upscale too. We were seated immediately, but it took about 10 minutes for a server to come to our table. However, he took our drink and food order quickly and took good care of during our visit. We went for brunch/lunch on a weekday. They have a great variety of options for food, something for everyone! We started with coffee, which tasted good and I liked the mugs and little pitcher of cream alongside. There was a little bit of the grounds in the coffee, but not so much to make it unpleasant. To eat, I had the steak frites. It's not your traditional steak frites, which was nice to see! The chimmichuri sauce was the perfect topping for the steak. The fries were cooked to my liking (not too crispy) and the steak was seasoned well. If I were to order it again, I'd ask for medium rare as opposed to medium to make it an even better eating experience. However, it was delicious! The other people in my party had the smoked brisket panini and the honey fried chicken. Both of these dishes were delicious as well. The chicken is one of their best selling dishes. Continues to be go to brunch place but this time I would rate it 3.5 stars We ordered curry chicken wrap - though flavorful it could do with more seasoning, less burning and moisture or curry. Frittata has always been our favorite but it was also dry, I liked it when they served it in the baking dish itself. Drinks were good. Chocolate martini and bubbly both were good. Being Easter Sunday their kitchen was backed up. So it took them solid 30 minutes to bring the food. But after that they did get us the spicy aioli and were quick to serve whatever we wanted. I went to the Hideout with a plan. If I made it in time for Happy Hour, I was having the mussels. If not, I would eat something dinnery. Alas, traffic was heavy. Happy Hour slipped by. No worries. I was hungry today anyway. First thing to note, parking is easy. There are small paid lots on either side and the big lot across the street. There is ample outfit seating, if you are so inclined. The bar and dining room are both a good size, too. I sat at the bar, proper. I got greeted and waited on immediately. My food came out in about 5 minutes. I had the burger. It was generously sized and cooked medium rare as requested. The egg was perfect and the burger had great flavor. The only quibble I had was how messy it was. I could handle the egg yolk and juice from the burger. What got me was the onion. It was dut so thick, I had trouble biting through it. I ended up pulling it out and eating it separately. I probably should have cut it, but so don't believe burgers are knife and fork food. They are meant to be held. Needless to say I made a mess. Bur it was a delicious mess. The fries were thin and crispy. They came with two sauces, ketchup and one that was thousand Islandesqe. Yum! I washed it down with my favorite NA beer if the moment, Day Money from Filedwork. My server was really nice and the whole experience was good. I'm interested in having those mussels some time. Or, I might try their Golden Hour dinner (3 courses for $45 from 5pm-6pm Mon - Wed.). Came in for a pre-movie dinner on a busy Friday night, and other than a few minor issues, we had an overall excellent experience. We got seated in the back room which was cozy and not as loud, which was great. Our server was friendly and put in our order quickly after we let him know that we had to try to make a movie time in nearby Walnut Creek. Because the restaurant was pretty busy, it was understandable that the kitchen was also handling a lot of orders, and all things considered, the food came out pretty quickly overall. The wedge salad was an excellent portion and had a different type of dressing than your usual blue cheese, and even though it was lighter than a typical blue cheese dressing, it was very flavorful, and the salad was packed with tomatoes and crispy bacon, along with crisp iceberg lettuce. The French onion soup was bubbling hot and rich, and the meatball and polenta appetizer included tender, nicely seasoned meatball over creamy polenta and a rich gravy. The polenta was chunkier than we prefer but went well with the gravy and meatballs. The boneless honey fried chicken was outstanding, with crispy skin, tender meat, and drizzled with tasty truffle honey. The potato fennel mash was smooth and salted nicely, and the sauteed kale with dried cranberries had good texture and flavors. Both sides complemented the fried chicken well. We were in a rush at the end to leave to get to the movie on time, and getting the check paid took a little longer than expected, but that was pretty minor. Great area for a weekend brunch type vibe. The street is cute and looks like it has a lot going on. Lots of metered parking lots nearby so parking wasn't that bad. A friend of mine drove a few blocks down the road and found free street parking too. The place itself has multiple seating options. It has an outside patio, casual indoor and even bar seating and what looks like a nicer dining area for occasions and birthdays with very nice chandeliers and tables. We sat in the nice room for my friends bday. We were a group of 13 and our total was about $500 for brunch items, mímosas. They gave a bread pudding for the bday girl on the house. I felt like the prices are a bit high but that's a personal opinion. I got the frittata which tasted alright and it was $24. Service was decent but nothing too good or too bad that stood out from it either. If they have a happy hour, I'll come back again because the ambiance is very nice. I was told that my dish comes with a free side salad but i was later charged for a sad looking garden lettuce salad for $8. I still don't know what happened there. I dined at Hideout with a group of colleagues after a long training day. Great experience. We enjoyed both indoor and outdoor space. We landed at a table in the bar for happy hour - this is where my only critique comes in. The chairs at the high tops in the bar are "half stools" - not enough seat to rest comfortably on. Each member of my party commented on them as they sat down and groaned when they stood up later. We then had dinner on the patio and it was delightful. We shared a few appetizers - the mascarpone toast was the surprise favorite! Then a range of entrees - each one of them delicious. Hideout achieves that perfect blend of homey and chef-driven. The food is great, lots of savory options that are on the healthier side. The meatballs and polenta, mussels, brussels and salads were delicious. What a gem nestled in bustling Lafayette, CA. Love.the decor vibe with ample outside dining offering plenty of shade from the California sun. Went for lunch on a Friday afternoon and was promptly seated amd served water. They have a great menu of various offerings of salad, pasta, wraps, paninis and a specialties section including a blackened salmon and a seafood stew. I ordered the Chicken Curry Wrap with sweet potato fries. Now I would definitely order this again and again. The filling of curry spice, chicken chunks, green beans, brown rice, quinoa, dried apricots, roasted potatoes and served with a side of labney, a strained yogurt for dipping. The labney paired perfectly with both the wrap and the deliciously crisped sweet potatoe fries. The service was great and our waters were kept filled throughout the meal. The Hideout is an upgrade from the Cooperage in terms of quality of food and cocktails. The seafood stew in particular is a highlight. The service is hit or miss. On my most recent visit, our server didn't stop by our table for very long periods of time, more than once. We also didn't get one of the items we ordered. I didn't remember that we hadn't received that item until the next day. I emailed the restaurant to ask if they could take a look at the bill and see if I'd been charged for it. The owner responded and said he'd look if I provided additional information, which I did that same day. I followed up a few days later. Never heard back from him. Cool. read more

It was a lovely evening to sit outside but the service was atrocious. They have a service level problem which is a shame bc the food is actually good. There was confusion between two server for our entire section of 6 tables, which led to delays in getting water, taking orders, receiving food (our chicken wings came our slow and was cold), (did not get a steakknife for my double porkchop, so the food got cold, I eventually flagged down the hostess who got me the correct knife vs a butter knife), and checking in the taste of the food (did not happen). I ordered an expensive dinner and it came out cold. Not great. I'd say I am 0-2 at The Hideout now. It's just not worth the service difficulties - every table in our section had delays and difficulties. It is so off-putting that you'll want to leave. Btw they add "+3% service fee to all transactions" which you'd think would equate to the commensurate level of higher service. Hope they can improve bc the hostess was great, the food was very good, and the ambiance is solid. Despite that I'm not sure I'd ever come back. Yes, that's how badly the service staff is run there. Happy February! My Coworker and I came by the hideout for lunch! This was my first visit, and it didn't disappoint. It is paid meter parking. We came in around noon and were able to get seated immediately. We asked to be seated outside since it was a nice day out! Inside had a bit of a dark modern aesthetic. The menu had lots of good lunch options, but not too many vegan options. We ordered the roasted chicken panini with side of sweet potatoes fries and the smoked brisket panini with house salad! I really enjoyed the chicken panini. I thought the basil aioli was incredibly flavorful! I didn't try the smoked brisket panini, but my coworker enjoyed it a lot! This is my second time visiting The Hideout Kitchen, it was a pretty busy afternoon for employees at they prepare for their New Year Party. My boyfriend and I ordered 1 Honey Fried Chicken Plate & 1 Steak Frites Plate. I ordered the Honey Fried Chicken plate which was delicious, crunchy on the outside & juicy in the inside. I honestly enjoyed my meal so much that I wanted to finish my entire plate but was so full. For the Steak Frites, my boyfriend regrettably ordered his cooked Medium Rare which ended up being a little too red for him (but.. That's on him! I) Personally, I do think the fries could've been cooked longer until crispy golden. As for drinks, I ordered a Hideout Ranch Water which was good. One thing to note, and a reason why I docked a star, was because one item on the receipt (my fried chicken plate) was not the happy hour price. They immediately fixed this but I recommend checking your receipt if you go during happy hour, as they were definitely on autopilot (especially today as they prep for a busy night). Lastly, Ambiance was nice. Casual enough to grab drinks, but also clean and dimmed enough for a date night. Maybe if I keep thinking about returning it'll be a 5 Really yummy, casual but refined New American food - it's exciting that Hideout Kitchen has moved to this new location and it's a great addition to the plaza! There's ample indoor and outdoor seating (including amenities like TVs playing sports indoors near the bar, and heat lamps or fans to keep outdoors comfortable). Service is quick and friendly, and attentive all around. We found parking for a few dollars in the lot across the street but if you scrounge around the side streets and don't mind an after dinner walk some free parking may be available too. The menu is full of enticing dishes such as brussels sprout and flatbread appetizers, fresh market fish and lots of drinks. But we came for the new offer of a three course "Golden Hour" dinner for $39, M-W from 5-6pm and it's a great deal! There's a choice between two starter salads, five entrees, and two desserts and we found all the items we tried to be generously portioned and precisely made. Of note is the Honey Fried Chicken which is boneless!! and includes one piece of white meat and one of dark. The crispy exterior was delicious and flavorful, and pairing with velvety potatoes and tender kale was very enjoyable. The clam linguini was also full of fresh clams and had a complex sauce that could be great to dip bread in. My favorite item was the Basque Cheesecake for dessert which came with some berry sauce and fresh fruit - this managed to be dense and light at the same time, not too sweet but very tasty. It was a pleasant dinner enjoying the outdoor lighting, polite service, and food made with heart. We hope the Golden Hour stays around, maybe with seasonal menu changes for some exciting variety, as it makes a great date night. read more

Food and Drinks were very tasty and of high quality. We ordered the cheeseburger, the Sesame Seared Ahi, one of the beers from their rotational tab and a cocktail (Manhattan). For desert we had Marianne's Mid Pie. We sat on the patio with our dog and the service was very friendly and efficient. The patio is very inviting and tastefully decorated. Excellent all around--great portions, high quality food, attentive service, and solid value. The ambiance can get pretty loud during peak hours, so keep that in mind. They also offer happy hour and weeknight specials, which is a nice bonus. I'll definitely be making this a regular go-to! read more

We had a reservation for a large party (11) and we were happy they could accommodate us. The server was excellent. She was very attentive and super friendly. Nice sized portions. A few of us were able to split dishes and were satisfied. We all enjoyed what we ordered. No complaints from Anyone in our party. read more

The food here was excellent! The dishes didn't come with rice by default, but when we asked for it, they kindly brought us some it was perfect. The drink I ordered was also amazing. One of the staff members was a Persian lady, and she took such great care of us super kind and attentive. The overall service was wonderful, and the place has a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. Came here for Easter lunch. Huge restaurant that's good for big groups. Parking is convenient with the lot across the street. The waiter was very kind and patient with our group of 15. Cocktails were yummy (had the white Negroni) and the portions are generous. I should've skipped the grilled cheese and gotten the shrimp and grits but everyone else liked their dishes! We have been here a few times. We are latinos and have never been felt uncomfortable here until today. First, i came in with my baby and my friend. We ordered but was starting to get stared down by a lady who we assume works there she had on a black and brown dress. Once we received our appetizers and drinks we were constantly getting dirty looks by staff as if they were just waiting for us to leave. When we received out main course it continued with the stares and just eying our food. And its one thing if the baby was making a fuss killing the ambience but he was sleeping the whole time. Once it was time to pay our card declined because we needed to approve our phone if the charge was correct once we approved it it was all good to go, but we did get a bit of a nasty look from the waiter. maybe he thought that we could not afford it but that was not the case. read more

I got the steak frites and the waitress asked how I would like it cooked to which I said medium rare. It came well done. All brown even when I cut into it with a couple random splotches of light pink. To the point I was wondering if they seared the slices individually instead of a whole steak. Honestly, I wouldn't have been too picky about it if the staff didn't go out of their way to ask me my preference. But if I explicitly said medium rare because they asked and it comes well done I am going to say something. They send over another steak and it is literally raw.. At this point I don't even think it's safe to eat. I don't understand how it goes from well done to raw. It seems kind of either incompetent or petty of the kitchen. Quite disappointing for one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. The waitress was exceptionally great though and was entirely understanding of the situation.
