My sister went to The Hangout at Pleasant Hill but they put our party down for the one in Walnut Creek - how does that happen? I'm glad it did because she said there were a lot of people waiting outside at the PH location. By the time we made it to WC, our tables were ready. There were no long wait times for anyone who came after us, maybe 5 minutes. Crowds started thinning out around noon. This was the 1st time any of us dined at The Hangout and it did not disappoint. The staff was very inviting and friendly. The person who took care of us was very helpful with explaining menu items and making suggestions. We were a large party so they had to split our tables but we were right to each other. There is a spacious dining area as well as outdoor seating. Standout dishes: Chicken & waffle - BIG portion. The chicken was crispy and flavorful. It was so good, the entire plate was wiped clean. Crispy chicken with garlic noodles - delicious combination. The garlic noodles were made with real garlic, not just powder. They need to offer this as a side dish. Chicken pops - chopped up, sample size version of the chicken and waffles. Perfect for sharing. I was looking for a brunch place in Walnut Creek and found The Hangout. After entering, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was Brunch + Asian Fusion. There were so many items that I wanted to try, but I only had one stomach. Came here on a Thursday morning and the restaurant was operating at around 20% capacity. The food: Garlic Noodle with Crispy Chicken - Garlic Noodles were tasty. The Crispy Chicken had really nice, almost tempura like batter. Wish it had a little sauce or something to bring it all together. Berry Lover Toast - Two large pieces of French Toast with a blueberry based inside, topped with a ton of stuff including sliced almonds, corn flakes, powdered sugar, sliced grapes and some thinly sliced oranges. There's a lot going on here. I did like the strawberry preserves as a topper - it seemed homemade and it wasn't too sweet. I didn't try any of my friend's Country Potatoes, but they looked legit. Absolutely love this place. I would go back in a heartbeat. The food tasted as good as it looked. All 3 of us were satisfied with our meals completely and definitely want to go back for more and try them again and again and again. I got the Monster Hotcakes that comes with 3 different pancakes and 3 different syrups for the 3 different pancakes. Can you say over the top awesome, you don't have to, I just did haha. It also comes with two eggs, I got scrambled and two meats, I got chicken sausage which was really good. It also comes with French toast and fruit. I was so happy. The only down fall is the cutting board it is served on looks great for presentation but not very functional with syrup being poured. Came here because of the great reviews. To me, it seems like this place is a little over hyped. It's really cute inside, and the staff was friendly. Maybe I just didn't get the right thing, I'm not sure. I just wasn't super impressed. I ordered an omelet and as soon as it came out, I could tell that the eggs were overdone/burnt. That is my pet peeve with eggs, and feel that for a breakfast spot, it should be a big no-no. Eggs just do not taste good when they're not done properly. They did not have sourdough bread so I ordered the English muffin, but it was so hard and thin, it reminded me of a hockey puck. I wasn't really a big fan of the potatoes either. My husband ordered the Benedict and he said that his was pretty good. He did say, though, that there was almost too much ham--like it wasn't well proportioned. That being said, he did enjoy it. We love this place! Before I start, just be aware that on weekends, the wait could be lengthy, especially if you have a party over 5 people. The ube flavoring was powder vs the natural coconut flavors, as it sat on my tongue the whole time. IYKYK. Sauce wasn't too sweet but lacked the true ube flavor I was hoping for. It's almost lunchtime and we wanted to check their special menu. I ended up getting the Hangover consisting of stir-fried Italian noodles, Basil, Bell pepper, Onion, Mushroom, CK Apple, Bacon and fried egg The vegetables are fresh and the noodles are soft. I liked this combination of vegetables and noodles as well as the bacon and fried eggs. The plate is big in portion. Next time, I will try their breakfast plate. Despite it being busy, they constantly checked in on us. They add an automated gratuity of 20% for groups of 6 or more. The menu is quite expansive but only one vegan option. Because I can't have dairy, I was limited to plain eggs, their bomb crispy potatoes, and a slice of the most spectacular ciabatta toast. My nephews had the Ube pancakes which they loved. We visited The Hangout on a Sunday late morning. Located in a shopping plaza this place has plenty of open parking although you may need to walk a little bit. This place was popping. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Upon entering we checked ourselves into the Yelp waitlist. So if you have a passenger with Yelp it may be beneficial to try to join the waitlist before arriving. That said we were fifth in line (party of two) and only waited about 10-15 minutes before getting a text that our table was ready. We ordered the thaitini, ube latte, and the loco moco. Service was very quick as well. The food came out quick. They're busy. It's loud. But they seem to have the flow dialed in. The thaitini was delicious! It tasted just like a Thai iced tea. I didn't really taste the soju. The presentation was gorgeous! The ube latte came with whipped cream and sprinkles. It was very sweet. Presentation is cute. For the loco moco you have your choice of how the eggs and meat are cooked. I wasn't expecting that! It was really tasty! I never would have thought to mix curry and gravy for a loco moco. The ratio of rice and protein and gravy was spot on. The portion sizes are pretty big so I think the pricing is fair. After tax and tip I think the total was around $40 something. The restaurant is very open and inviting and gives a classic family owned feeling to it. The staff is extremely nice and attentive. If they see your drinks getting low they'll offer to refill it without needing to call upon them. The food was good. Their items are a bit more expensive, but for the portion sizes and quality of the food, you're getting what you paid for. The Monster Hotcakes were okay. 3 pancakes and sauces: buttermilk & maple syrup, thai tea flavored pancake and sauce, ube flavored pancake with ube sauce. The plain buttermilk and ube pancakes were good but the thai tea pancake lacked flavor. The 49er benedict was good and tasted really fresh. The pancakes themselves are fluffy and have a nice light crisp to them. The French toast included was also good- we liked it even more with the Thai/ube sauce instead of syrup.
