Ceviche
Amy L.

Parking is either street parking or we parked in a structure and walked over. We went on a Monday evening started off with a few mojitos. Passion fruit Lychee and white peach vanilla mojitos. Both were good but I liked the lychee flavor better. For appetizer we had ceviche with banana chips. The banana chips were delicious with the ceviche. For entrees we picked paella and the ropa vieja. The paella was good came out hot and with shrimp, chicken, chorizo , clams and muscles. The ropa brisket was good but to me it felt like a crock pot. Not fall off the bone melt in your mouth brisket. But I would come back to try some other items.

A lively spot to drink and sober up in downtown Walnut Creek. Service is A+ and it is located in a fun area to hop around. However, for Cuban food, it was underwhelming. The croquettes didn't have much flavor and the grilled shrimp and rice was very sauce heavy. Not the worst Cuban spot, but just okay.

Havana is always amazing! Thirsty Thursdays are so fun- salsa lessons and a live Cuban band! Plus the food and drinks are always great! I enjoyed a classic mojito made "not too sweet" the way I like it. The Cuban sandwich is a classic and the best around. The ham croquettes were bursting with creamy rich flavor. My two new favs are the fresh hamachi crudo with bright flavors (this little balls on top are concentrated lime! So amazing) and the snapper ceviche made in traditional Cuban style. I could eat a whole bowl of this! Amazing dinner

The ambiance was everything. The lighting of the restaurant was dim but also bright enough to still see around the time we went. closer to 830pm. Greeted & seated immediately by a super nice woman at the front desk. latin music playing, a vibe for sure. Service- MIIAAAA was super sweet & knowledgeable about the menu. i was being particular about wanting a side of cream with my dish and she knew exactly why & was able to bring me some. she checked on us the right amount of times & at the end reminded us of their brunch & live music hours. she also made sure to have the manager give us 2 certificates for money off our next visit since it was our first time. give her a raise! food/drinks- everything and i mean everything was delicious. from the drinks to the appetizers/tapas & the entrees & desserts. everything had flavor, the drinks were perfectly strong and not overpowering taste of alcohol either. 10/10 we'll definitely be back

OMG So good Peach Vanilla Mojito

We came here for a quick drink before heading to the R&B brunch and we should have just stayed here. The atmosphere was fun and friendly the bartender Jesse was FANTASTIC!! She took such great care of us we came back after our disappointing brunch at another restaurant. The bottomless mojitos is a steal and kept us in our seats for way later than we expected. I will definitely be coming back here to try the food cause they already won me over with the service and cocktails!

This is a gem of a restaurant in Walnut Creek downtown! Excellent service, wonderful mojitos and scrumptious food. We had the chicken wings, yucca fries and shared a paella. Every thing was delicious and plentiful! Will be going to Havana soon!

Chilaquiles

Being completely honest, I didn't know what to expect coming into a Cuban restaurant for brunch as a first timer but now I'm questioning why I waited so long!? From the second we stepped inside, the owner greeted us like we were long-lost family members who just inherited a fortune. The vibe here is immaculate, but let's talk about the real MVP of the morning: the bottomless mojitos. They aren't just "bottomless" in theory; they are a continuous, delicious stream of minty joy. Pretty sure my glass had a teleportation device attached to it because it was never empty. As for the food? Absolute magic. The French toast is an absolute cloud of deliciousness, the Chilaquiles have the perfect kick to wake you up, and the Ropa Vieja is so tender and flavorful it should honestly be classified as a mood-altering substance. To top it all off, our server Gavin was an absolute rockstar. He checked in on us early and often, making sure everything was to our liking and keeping us hydrated. Food, service, vibe, this place excels in all area and I'll be sure to come back very soon!

The ambiance is cute and delightful. The service was nice and accommodating. I've been her before and it's always been a good time ! The fried plantains with avocado dip were DELICIOUS!! We order I think 3 of them hahaha and the meals we ordered everyone enjoyed !! I have one less Star because the fried churros that we were all looking forward to and is why I voted for this place was not so good. It tasted very oily and it was hard. I know there's a crunch to churros but this was like over done and it turned hard but other than that we all had a good time !!

Second 5-star review for Havana because their brunch really is that good. The booths are comfortable, the vibe is fun, and it's a great spot to relax for a weekend brunch. We started with the Chicken Ropa Vieja Chilaquiles. I had the Plantain French Toast, which was amazing, and my husband had the steak and eggs. We finished with churros and gelato, which were the perfect sweet ending. Our waitress was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Between the bottomless mojitos, great food, and friendly service, Havana continues to be one of our favorite brunch spots.

Bottomless mojitos and mimosas! Brunch is such a vibe here - drinks are flowing, food is fire and our server was the best. Shoutout to Mia for keeping us fed and tipsy! Havana has been my gal pal spot for a while and GALentines Day was no exception. Reservations are highly recommended because this place fills up. Our table arrived starving and we basically ordered the left side of the tapas menu and we had the gall to order entrees on top of that - smh. Highly recommend: -Grilled shrimp with sofrito rice -Scallops with mashed potato purée -Mojo chicken wings -Empanadas -Steak and eggs -Seafood paella -Chilaquiles The flavors, quality, and presentation were on point and of course we got stuffed after the initial tapas. We ended up taking our entrees home (no regrets)! Look forward to the next Havana hang!

Grilled Lamb Chops

Finally checked out Havana downtown and they are legit. The food here is solid. We got the lamb chops and it didn't disappoint. We also tried the Ropa Vieja empanadas and they were spot on. On top of the great food, the service was efficient and our plates were ready in no time. One thing I didn't enjoy was the chicano fried rice - somehow missed the fact it had pineapple in it. It was overly sweet and salty, not my jam.

I came in simply because I love Cuban food, and Havana absolutely delivered. From the moment you walk in, the Cuban-inspired theme hits you -- vibrant, warm, and done so eloquently without feeling over the top. The tables were set perfectly, giving the whole space an elevated yet welcoming feel. I started with the mash and guacamole and it was out of sight. Fresh, flavorful, and the kind of appetizer that immediately tells you you're in the right place. Then came the ropa vieja empanadas -- and these slapped so hard. Crispy on the outside, packed with rich, soulful flavor on the inside, exactly how empanadas should be done. To close it out, I ordered the ropa vieja, and that dish carried it all the way home. Deep, comforting, slow-cooked flavor that reminds you why Cuban food hits the heart the way it does. The service deserves its own shout-out. My waitress was amazing -- charming, funny, and incredibly attentive without ever hovering. I wish I remembered her name, but she was from Pittsburgh and had me laughing throughout the meal. That kind of genuine hospitality makes a huge difference. As if the night wasn't already great, as I was about to leave the owner personally came over and presented me with a cigar. That touch of class sealed the deal. We talked about my trip and his family's trip to Cuba -- real conversation, real connection, no rush. That's the kind of hospitality you don't forget. Amazing food, exceptional service, and hospitality that goes far beyond the plate. This is a place I'll absolutely be recommending to everyone going forward, and one I'm already looking forward to returning to.

Wow, everything was so good. We did family style and it was the perfect amount of food. Shout out to our waiter, Jeff for the recommendations and great service. We enjoyed every dish. On to the food.. Blood orange mojito: was so good. I did it with tequila and it was refreshing! Empanadas: so crispy and paired perfectly with the sauce. We ordered two of them 5/5 Plantains& ceviche: omg the chips are so good. We had another order. The ceviche tasted fresh. 5/5 Lamb chops: I'm not big on lamb, but this was amazing! Cooked perfectly with the sauce 5/5 Scallops with mash potatoes: prob one of the best mashed potatoes I've had in a while ( if that is it). Never thought scallops paired with it, but so good! 5/5 Cubano: the meat was tender and I loved making tacos with the pickled veggies 5/5 Paella: it wasn't my favorite, but filling. 3/5 Overall good food and wonderful service! Love how the staff is attentive and make sure you're happy. Such a lively area and apparently they have happy hour and specials!

Our group of 3 sat outside in their lovely side alleyway and feasted on 6 delicious shared small plates plus their scrumptious dessert sampler. We ordered: -- Cacio e pepe biscuit -- Esquites (Mexican street corn) -- Empanadas -- Tacos al pastor -- Ceviche tostadas -- Alaskan black cod The black cod dish was seriously incredible and a standout amid the other wonderful dishes. The waiter mentioned it had been on their menu for 22 years and that people traveled there to try it. I can believe it! Speaking of service, it was exceptional. Along with our friendly main waiter, there were other staff refilling water glasses and changing table settings quickly as needed. We waited on nothing but also never felt interrupted. Since Va da Vi IS a wine bar, I should mention that wine was also wonderful. I tried their Pinot Noir flight and enjoyed all 3 of the 3 oz samplings, especially the 2023 Status Quo and the 2023 "Klee" by Roots Wine Co. Is it pricey? Well, a little, but not for the quality. I've eaten at places just as expensive and left far less satisfied. I can see the bill adding up quickly for a group who wants a huge meal, but if you're into just sipping and nibbling on amazing food and wine, come!

First, the host is an older gentleman, and it took a few minutes to be seated even with a reservation. My husband and I ordered cocktails, 2 tapas, and the vegetarian paella. The paella requires 30-45 min to cook. This becomes important to the story later. We received the tapas before our cocktails arrived. When the cocktails finally arrived, the server almost gave them to the table next to us. I had to flag her attention that those were for me. This was the same server who took our order...?!?! So that was weird. We were done with the tapas and the cocktails. Our server asked if we wanted something more to drink, so we decided to get a bottle of red wine. The server poured our wine, spilled a big drip across our table, wiped off the bottle, but didn't bother to wipe the table! There was a group of 4 people next to us, and they were seated about 15 min after us. But they received a paella really fast. So my husband and I were dismayed because the server probably gave our food to the wrong table. So, we drank our wine and waited for someone to come and speak to us. We expected some kind of acknowledgement that our order was going to be slow. Waited. And waited. Then the table next to us received the paella that they actually ordered (with seafood). And we kept waiting. The server apologized to THEM about bringing them the wrong paella at first, but no apology or explanation to us! At this point, I'm staring at the server, trying to get her attention, getting pretty angry. My husband is a good person, so he's making jokes and making me laugh. He points out a small dog sitting on a chair inside the restaurant. Definitely not a service animal. At this point, I'm so aggrieved and laugh that I'm going to report a health code violation. The server finally comes to us and apologizes for the mix-up, it will be 45 more min for our paella. She tries to compensate by giving us 2 glasses of cava. But like... I'm starving and tipsy. I ask my husband if I should get a corn dog at Foster's Freeze while we wait for paella... Finally, the food arrives. The paella is good but not excellent. My husband makes paella at home that's better than this. He lived in Spain for a while, so he knows and uses a bunch of saffron. La Marcha's paella just tasted like rice with tomatoes and veggies, no saffron flavor or color. We ate the paella, ordered dessert. When the tab came, they didn't give us any kind of discount. The dinner took 2.5 hours! So I am normally a good tipper, but this time, I only tipped 10% and wrote a long note about our disappointment. I figured the other $25 that I would give to the server was going to pay for the babysitter for the extra hour that it took for us to eat dinner. tl;dr Food was good but not excellent. Service was terrible. I am never going back.
