Ruined a Father's Day celebration over hidden fees We brought a large group here for a Father's Day dinner and spent over $700 on our meals. While the food was fine, the restaurant's sneaky charging practices and lack of communication completely ruined the celebration. To celebrate, we brought in a special Father's Day dessert from Julie's Cakes. We explicitly asked our server for spoons to eat it. Instead of being upfront and letting us know there would be a charge, the staff said absolutely nothing and just quietly tacked an "outside dessert fee" onto our final bill. When we looked at the menu to find where this was stated, we saw it buried in microscopic fine print at the absolute bottom of the page (image.png). For a table spending $700, sneaking a fee onto the bill without a verbal heads-up--especially when we directly asked for utensils--is incredibly tacky and poor customer service. They cared more about nickel-and-diming us over a couple of plates than providing good hospitality for a family holiday. Disappointing experience, to say the least. The service was friendly and attentive, the drinks arrived immediately with our food following shortly after. My mango lemonade was not too sweet, fruit forward and refreshing for a warm day. My brother loved his mango prickly pear slushie so much he ordered a second. The pear flavor was light with more emphasis on mango, the icy ratio allowed the drink to be enjoyed without ice chunks or losing any flavor. The seafood was prepared beautifully, allowing each individual item to shine in its collective and the rice was well flavored without being overpowering in flavor. The dish was extremely harmonious. We both took half our meal to go as the portions are generous. I would definitely return to try a ceviche and half shell oysters. It took over 15 minutes for a server to come to our table, and another 5 minutes just to bring menus. There was also an awkward issue when we were being seated. The hostess brought us to a table, but then the owner came over and asked us to get up because it was supposedly reserved. He said someone would seat us elsewhere, which felt unnecessary since all the tables were the same and there were no reserved signs posted. Went to Limón for a casual dinner last night, where we ordeted the Seco de costillas (which never lets me down!) and a whole chicken with a side salad and french fries. My plate was the seco de costillas, first off - the meal is huge. I ate half last night & the other half for lunch today. The meat was tender, flavorful, and juicy. The rice was delicious lightly topped with fresh veggies. I always enjoy this dish but I almost think the Limón restaurants make it differently because I recall this dish having black beans at their San Mateo location. Service was good, it did take a while to get our orders placed but they were good about checking in on us after receiving our food & replenishing our water. Now, the ambiance is nice for an outing with friends, or possibly even a date. But it gets really loud in there because of the volume of the music, so you're likely yelling if you're engaging in conversation lol. It serves food uniquely Peruvian and wow it is amazing. I bet they have been eating food in Peru for a long time, because they have really amazing food. You can eat ceviche, but add some Peruvian corn made different ways, peanuts and other things that it makes a dish go from spectacular to beyond. Lagarta beer is so great with the food. The tart sauce is so delicious and with the Peruvian corn and other ingredients is an amazing combination. The canchito à la Diablo was such an amazing treat. The crispy pork belly is in a wonderful sauce of whatever degree of spicy that you want. Mine was mild and delicious. I am tempted to try medium next time as well as with the ceviche. This is a classy place. Definitely a super first or more date site. Definitely a great place to explore the wonders of Peruvian cuisine! Btw, let me comment about the service: it is totally friendly and hospitable. Ordered the Ceviche Limon and Taro Chips to start, a Chicha Morada and Lomo Saltado. Loved the Chicha Morada, super refreshing and comfortingly warm due to the cinnamon spice. The Ceviche Limon came with fried calamari and red snapper, squid and shrimp. The ceviche was okay, the salsa and garnish were great additions but didn't find the seafood to be too fresh and the calamari was very fishy smelling. I didn't have stomach issues, but just some things to note. I didn't end up eating the rest of the fried calamari. Also they charge $4 for taro chips. Portion is also small for it being $30. Lomo Saltado is a must order of course, thought it was just okay here. The meat was tough and dry, the stir fry sauce and fries were good. Not the best Lomo Saltado I've had. Service was friendly and food came out quick. Just felt like the food quality was just not there, which is unfortunate since these items are Peruvian signature dishes. Limon is a nice clean restaurant right on Locust Street in downtown Walnut Creek. We went here for a birthday lunch with 8 guests. We had a reservation and we got seated right away. Initially the service was good but they did kind of forget about us toward the end. The food was overall very good. The whole chicken was tender and well seasoned. The pork belly chaifu was very good but was served with an overwhelming amount of rice which seemed a bit too salty. All of the portions were pretty generous so consider that when ordering. The yucca fries were excellent but the sweet potato fries were a tad over salted. Overall it was a good experience but the service was a bit lackluster. read more

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the noise level. There was music going and television screens. It was definitely a lively atmosphere, which wasn't my vibe for this family dinner I planned. We were escorted upstairs where they have larger parties. We asked if 2 chairs could be removed to give us more elbow space, but they said they would just ignore those 2 extra seats. It was good. + Empanada sampler - comes with 4 empanadas: beef, cheese, veggie, and chicken. These were awesome, really crispy outside, with lots of filling. The chicken was really good, and the cheese was really ooey gooey. The veggie one is very mushroom forward, which I enjoyed. + Bruselas - roasted Brussels sprouts was very good. Nice crispy bits and good flavor. + Picante de Mariscos - jumbo prawns, calamari, mussels, clams, and scallops in a slightly spicy sauce. This was great. + Arroz con Mariscos - this was very much like the Picante de Mariscos except the seafood sits on a bed of saffron rice. I only wish the rice had a crispy bottom like a paella. But flavor was wonderful. + Lomo Saltado - stir-fried beef tenderloin with tomatoes, onions, and french fries, in soy sauce with jasmine rice on the side. The beef was kinda dry and overcooked. Might have been better if the beef was sliced thinner than in chunks. + Chocolate Bandido - chocolate cake with melty chocolate center and ice cream. Well against my better judgement, I went to Limon and gave them a second chance. That was a mistake. Not once did someone come by and ask us how our food was or refilled our water. They literally dropped off the food and ignored us the entire time, despite us sitting at the bar and being right in front of the bartender. Whenever I tried to make eye contact with him, he basically looked away. The other thing is we ordered yucca fries and literally got 4 fries. FOUR.
