The restaurant was busy, but the service never skipped a beat--our servers were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. We started with the chips and salsa, and they were a great way to kick things off. The chips tasted fresh and were perfectly crispy. Both the red and green salsas had really good flavor without being overly spicy. We also ordered spicy margaritas, and the bartender definitely knew what they were doing. The drinks were well-balanced with just the right amount of heat. For our entrees, we ordered the burrito, carne plate, enchiladas, and the bee salad. The standout was definitely the carne--it was incredibly tender and practically melted in your mouth. It was cooked perfectly. The burrito was absolutely massive and packed with flavor, while the enchiladas tasted homemade and were comforting and delicious. Everyone at the table left happy. Overall, it was a great dining experience with delicious food, excellent drinks, and attentive service despite how busy they were. Food is okay, happy hour as gotten to be less happy since they opened (meaning more expensive and less options) but it's still a place with a nice outdoor seating area. The one thing that really stands out to me about Bar Camino though is their bartenders. Very friendly and 100% on top of their games no matter how busy they get. Most of the time my lemonade was refilled before I even asked, no matter how many tickets were on the rail waiting to be filled. A few menu tweaks, including seasoning, and they should be able to elevate their overall game on the backs of their strong staff. read more

Came here for happy hour last week. The outside decor is cute. We felt like we were back in Arizona again! I liked how when we sat down the bartender gave us each waters right away. Especially since it was like 98 degrees outside. I wish they had more food options on the happy hour menu. Like add a few dollars for some meat in the quesadilla. Or add meat in the nacho fries. Bar Camino is a large, lively restaurant with a lot going on--in a good way. The indoor decor is really interesting and eclectic, and if I remember correctly, each room has its own vibe or theme, which made the space feel fun and thoughtfully designed. Service was great, and food came out very quickly. Portions were solid, and everything we tried was genuinely tasty. That said, I came in with pretty high expectations after seeing a lot of hype on Instagram and TikTok calling this one of the best Mexican spots in Walnut Creek. While I definitely think the food is good and the overall experience is enjoyable, I personally still lean toward more casual, less upscale Mexican food. If I'm craving Mexican, I'd honestly still pick a no-frills spot like Tacos Walnut Creek. All that said, I can absolutely see why people love Bar Camino. It's a great place for a fun night out, the space is beautiful, and the food is well done--it just comes down to personal preference. My friends told me about this place, so I had to come try it with them when I was in the area. Don't even think about looking for free parking--there is NONE. The residential parking requires a special permit, so it's best to park at the meters and pay. Happy Hour (HH) is offered at the bar and on the patio, so make sure to tell them you're there for HH when you get seated. The drinks are strong and tasty--and most importantly, they're only $5! We ordered all the HH snack items except the nacho fries because they were out. Everything was yummy! We got four steak tacos in the first round, and the steak slices were thin as paper. When I mentioned we had ordered salsa they picked up the guacamole after it had been at the table for 10 minutes. The chips are tasty but very greasy. The carnitas is so fatty and tasteless. Great place to hold a birthday celebration. A friend of mine threw her birthday party here in their outdoor space that look like a greenhouse. The ambience was so cool. It had a lot of of cacti and Mexican paper stars from the ceiling and it was the perfect weather. Pretty much anything from their menu is great. I had gone here before when this place was called Maria Maria. The food is still awesome, especially their enchiladas, tacos, sopas. I typically get their house margarita, but want to get the Horchatalada- a pina colada slushie with horchata. Will definitely come back but will avoid the server who waited on us. She added extra tacos to our plate without asking and charged us for the extra taco and also complained that since she split the bill between several of us in the party she wasn't happy with the tip she received. read more

Meeting up with my friends while visiting Cali and was surprised that Carlos Santana restaurant is no longer here and Bar Camino has taken over the spot. I have not been in Cali for 5 years but the server provided background as to what happened. I love the decor in and outside of this place. The front door is everything! I wanted an item that is no longer on the menu, however, I opted for the Nachos. Also, I read the strongest drink on the menu was the Good Riddance. The Nachos was ok, I don't feel Like it was the best I have had. I do like the ample toppings. The drink was ok as well. This place is a cool spot to mingle and enjoy friends with a cool ambiance. Not very flavorful, but a cool spot. I would try again, but with something else like the Fajitas per se. The service was great, one thing to add....you do have to pay for salsa and chips. Just FYI. Prob more like a 4.5. Overall, great experience! I've been meaning to visit Bar Camino for awhile so when my long distance friend mentioned she'll be in the area, we finally made the stop. Parking: no restaurant lot available. Park at a meter on the street. If you don't want to cross the street, park at a meter behind the restaurant on the library side and walk the pathway behind the restaurant over the creek. Ambiance: so beautiful and fun! love all the colorful art, the neon lights, and the overall vibe of the restaurant. Looks like a great place for casual, celebratory dinner or hang out. Service: So attentive and quick. Admittedly, we arrived during early happy hour time so there weren't as many people there and staff was readily available. But even as it filled up, we were always quickly helped. Food: a great happy hour selection for the perfect "girl dinner" of small bites and margaritas. If you visit on Tuesday, they have the taco specials available all day as well. Their happy hour is Monday to Sunday from 4 PM - 6 PM in the bar and patio. Snacks and select drinks are $5 ea. + protip: if you want chips + salsa, upgrade to the salsa + guac during happy hour. Same price so you basically get the guac for free. + nacho fries were good, but I wish it had meat! + a la carte tacos come at a great price, but only the carnitas, veggie, and chicken ones. Add $2 for the quesabirria, shrimp, fish, or steak (so $7ea) + the margaritas are strongggg and are such a steal at the $5 happy hour price. Add a flavor (mango, strawberry, etc) for $2. I attended a party here in Walnut Creek. I normally don't like Mexican food but to my surprise, the food here tasted pretty good. We were served nachos for starters, filling up with a glass of margarita. Someone said, hold off on the nachos, the meals are coming and you'll feel too full to enjoy it. Here are the dishes they served. All were very filling and delectable. When the last dish came, we were so full that I had to split one quesabirria with the hubs. Met some friends at Bar Camino for lunch. The restaurant has a great space with dining inside and outside. Our waiter was really helpful and friendly and kept our drinks filled. We started with chips and guacamole which were very tasty. I ordered the tacos al pastor. The flavor was good, but the meat had too much fat for me to really enjoy. I also tried the tacos birrias. The meat was tender, the flavor was very good and I enjoyed the dipping sauce. Their menu had many other items, including soups, salads, mains and desserts. The location is on the edge of the shopping area so there is easy access but just enough distance from the shopping madness and with public parking right across the street. Bar Camino was our third stop on our taco crawl this weekend and overall we enjoyed our food. For drinks, we split an Orange Fizz, which was delicious. We also split the dessert plantains and ice cream and it was probably our favorite dish of the day. The plantains just flowed so wonderfully with the richness of the ice cream - absolutely delectable! The cod of the fish taco itself was well battered and quite tasty, but the balance of the other ingredients - the cilantro, pico de gallo, tartar, and guacamole just didn't work together and the tortilla recipe (I believe they were handmade) wasn't the best. The dish could probably do with a re-work. Finally a couple neutrals - the service was fairly slow, even with an almost empty house, and while the patio was comfortable it felt dated. We would definitely return but next time would probably try out a few other items on the menu. read more

If I could give no stars I would. They did not accept my sisters ID-- even though we are both well above the age of 21. We went to get happy hour margaritas and we left with a bad taste in our mouth. The reason why they didn't accept the ID was because their cheap ID reader did not validate it. We have never had problems anywhere else and are Walnut Creek natives. They then said "We've been to court before so we can't serve you." It was our first time here and it was so disappointing to find out that their bad judgement and choices in the past are the reason why we wouldn't enjoy the full experience. I've been here a handful of times, but recently went with a group of friends for my birthday and the experience was fabulous! I have now been to Bar Camino a few times with groups of friends and family. It has become a reliable favorite for entertaining guests in downtown Walnut Creek, due to the high quality of food and drinks, spacious and inviting dining areas, and efficient service. That said, it's a bit pricier than some equally good Mexican food options outside of downtown. We usually get guacamole and chips to start, which also comes with two salsas. They have great tacos - the pescado was my favorite. I recently tried the Machaca Beef enchiladas, which were very good. For a side dish, I recommend the maduros (sweet plantains). They also make great margaritas and cocktails, and I love the selection of non-alcoholic mocktails too! I recently enjoyed the Happiness & Sunshine mocktail. It's easy to make a reservation via their website or OpenTable. Parking is easy next door at the Library garage. read more

My wife's order was wrong, where they tacked on an extra taco and $6 to the bill, but things happen and not something to hate on. What was awkward and inappropriate was when the server wanted us to add more tip with us paying last in the group, telling us we needed to make up for others not tipping her enough and trying to talk us into dropping her more cash. Walking up to the place I noticed it was on the corner and corner places usually have any unique situation as far as their design layout so I was interested to see what they offered. She's an amazing foodie and yelper as well, so it's nice to have an elite on my arm. The front door was very impressive just like you were in Mexico. They have large bright colored doors to welcome you in and I noticed that outside they had a eating area that was streetside and looked very comfortable, but very little shade and it was very hot that day so we decided to go inside. We started off with a Camino style nachos, and we got the small plate which actually had quite a bit on it. I have to say at this point be prepared because everything comes out has beautiful eye appeal. And that I appeal was followed up with incredible taste. so happy to see such detail in their care. The seasonings and the presentation really spoke of the true flavors of Mexico. Had fried tortilla halves with black beans, pico de gallo Oaxaca cheese and avocado creamer drizzled over the top. Vibrant and vivid colors in all of it. We gladly shared our plates. I ordered the pork belly which had crispy, pork belly, cilantro, slaw, peanuts, pineapple, pico, salsa, Matcha pickled onions, and was served with Charro beans. I would be proud to serve a beautiful platter like this to anyone at my home. Looking around, I noticed that it was decorated like a classy eatery with bright colors, painting of Kahlo of course, and nice paintings on the wall and things to dry your eyes to the attention that they wanted you to feel you were not still in the states. I noticed half the side to the back. They had a wonderful slightly shaded area for eating outside as well, which is really nice and it was being used. The bar was amazing. They had probably the largest selection of tequila. I've seen anywhere in a bar. And a lot of the business was in there in the afternoon having their afternoon lunches, which are gladly serve there as well. We were quickly taken to our table and brought menus. I believe my daughter had the Carnitas. It was Cazo braised, pork, grilled poblano, onions, guacamole, pineapple pico, served with cilantro, rice, refried beans, and corn tortillas. Again, a stunning presentation. We were taking pictures like crazy to appreciate everything again later. For those who are learning ... The Mexican restaurants in Texas started adding more ingredients preferred by Texans to accommodate their tastes, resulting in what we call today "Tex-Mex." 5 mins into being seated at our table, they gave us chips and salsa, assuming this was complimentary. It took 15 mins to flag down anyone, luckily we were able to get the attention of the food runner, to ask where our server is so we can order. She told us "she is coming. " Another 10 mins passed and the same food runner came by with guacamole that we didn't order and told it came with the chips and salsa. 10 mins have passed, and we still haven't placed our food orders. The same food runner was able to get the attention of another server who is in the same section to take our order. Food was okay , nothing to rave about. We didn't even come across our actual server until towards the tail end of our meal. She came and filled our water, and packed our leftovers. Our bill came and they charged us for $13 guacamole, where we thought was complimentary and complained. The server spoke to her manager, they removed the $13 but ended up charging us for the chips and salsa for $5. This was the longest dinner we ever had to endure with poor service and only to have 2 entree salads and a burrito. We don't think we'll be coming back. The best part of the outing was the free parking across the street at the library. read more
