We went to the Rooftop restaurant in Walnut Creek for our anniversary. Originally we had reservations at Va de Vi but it was packed and we would have been stuck sitting near the door. I'm so glad we ended up across the street. It's an open area restaurant with a very large wraparound bar and rooftop deck seating overlooking downtown. Despite it being windy and chilly, we didn't get cold at all. I regret not taking photos of the restaurant itself as the ambience was so unique. We ordered 3 appetizers and no mains. Fried calamari, heirloom tomatoes with burrata and roasted brussel sprouts. Calamari: batter was a bit darker than most I've had, but consistency and crispness the same. Don't know if they used extra paprika for the color. The calamari was tender and a good contrast to the batter. The real star was their tartar sauce which was so yummy we asked for more. Tomato salad: this dish was just about perfect. What you can't see well in the photo is the burrata sitting on a bed of pesto. The pesto is arugula-based, making it much milder and not so basil-forward, which we appreciated. Brussels sprouts: It's not the best we've had but I would still order it again, if nothing more than to get those insane bacon chunks that came with the vegetables. I had the spicy maracuya and hubby had the Irish goodbye as drinks. Both wonderfully done, but I especially liked the Irish goodbye which was their take on a manhattan - instead of bourbon they used whiskey, and threw in some green chartreuse along with the vermouth. This was my first visit, and based on this experience, I'm not sure I would return unless the menu or execution has changed significantly. For a party of two, we ordered four drinks, two appetizers, and one salad, with the final tab coming to approximately $170. At that price point, I expect a noticeably stronger food experience, and unfortunately, this meal did not deliver. The service was a bright spot. The waitstaff was polite, professional, and attentive throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the food was where the experience fell short. The cauliflower and spicy tuna appetizers both had acceptable presentation, but the flavors and execution were disappointing. The ingredients did not seem particularly well balanced, and both dishes felt like they needed the chef to revisit the seasoning, composition, and overall preparation. Neither appetizer left an impression worth repeating. The Asian chicken salad had potential, but the quality and freshness of the ingredients kept it from standing out. A salad built around fresh, crisp ingredients should feel vibrant, yet this one came across as somewhat tired and lacking the freshness I would expect. Another point worth mentioning is the 20% gratuity that was automatically added to the bill. While I understand that some restaurants have automatic gratuity policies, it was unexpected for a party of two and felt somewhat excessive given the overall dining experience. I would have preferred that the policy be clearly communicated upfront. I typically include photos with my reviews, but the only photo I took on this visit was of the receipt, which probably says enough about how memorable the food was. Overall: The service was professional, but the food did not justify the approximately $170 price tag for two. Wanted to try something new last week and thought we'd give Rooftop a try. We were able to book a same day reservation online. We arrived 45 min early and they were able to accommodate us. It was a nice day so the ambiance here was great, and the staff was very good and attentive to our needs. We started off by trying a couple of drinks. I had the tequila drink called the "Peach Please," which was like a peach margarita. Very good. However, the vodka drink, the "Huckleberry Sunset" was very refreshing. For the food, I had the short rib benedict. It was cooked perfectly, The meat was buttery and tasty. It came with a side of potatoes that had red onion and it was pleasantly good. Honey had the steak, and it was seasoned so well that it didn't need any sauce, every tough it came with a side of chimichurri. Although they overcooked it a bit for our liking, it was still good. Unfortunately he never introduced himself so I am unable to name him but I felt extremely judged and uncomfortable. Drinks were mediocre and food was over priced. The vibes in general were off. From the customer base to the wait staff. The only positive encouragement I received was from the second bartender. I wish it was him that made our drinks. This was our first time visiting, and we were thoroughly impressed! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for great food, drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. I also ordered the Pink Smoke and substituted the mezcal for regular tequila--it was absolutely amazing! My sister ordered the Heartbreaker, which she clearly loved because she ended up having three! I have been to this very cool restaurant given its location the name speaks for itself . The Rooftop has a very nice selection on their menu not overwhelming just good quality choices . I had the 1/2 of ribs presentation was not the best but it was good . They had plates the mash potatoes and asparagus on a separate dish that made the dish looked underwhelming. The dish plate had black old scorched mark which is not pleasant either to look at I think it's time to invest in new plates . The mash was ok but the asparagus had an aftertaste. It seem to me it was grilled but not on a clean grill because wherever they grill it on the asparagus absorbed and the was not pleasant at all . The salmon was good seared perfectly. I can see why they have such a poor rating after going back and forth multiple times to try and book a private event for a birthday. I filled out the online forms and called 4x to book a private event. The event coordinator finally emails me and tells me to just book a reservation online. The rooftop located in Walnut Creek has an outdoor lounge vibe in the middle of the city. I was greeted by the hostess and taken to a table by the outside patio. Started off with truffle fries and Brussels sprouts. Appetizers were good nothing spectacular that would stand out. Ordered the spicy rigatoni pasta with grilled chicken and tuna tartar. Both items were good but again it wasn't something that stood out. There were few things that occurred that kinda made our experience a bit different. 1. From my view I sat in front of a dining room area where I believe there was manager coaching an employee or corrective action or work review was occurring. The curtain was pulled halfway and my line of view I could see that there was definitely a situation that occurred between employees as I saw one female employee go behind the curtain to speak to a manager sitting at a table then a male employee went in afterwards to speak to a manager. Nonetheless it was kinda awkward witnessing this and I'm not sure if they don't have an actual office to do this behind actual closed doors. 2. Walnut Creek has a two hour dine limit. As I'm not from this area I was oblivious to how strict there are to this rule. You cannot dine past your 2 hour time and I realized this when our waiter kept walking by multiple times asking if we were still eating. He finally informed me about this and said he allowed an extra 15 minutes but he had to tab us out. Kind of off putting to be kicked out. 3. This isn't a big issue but weekend diners are automatically charged extra weekend gratuity. Just a heads up for those who wouldn't have seen it on their bill. read more

Starting off they're known for their ambiance ofc, it's a perfect epicenter of broadway plaza and a good way to unwind after a long day of shopping. At night it could get pretty chilly so I suggest bringing something cozy and warm in case. Food is cool. Not too special but I did enjoy the quick service. The server checked on us a lot, kept the drinks coming, bussers always cleared the table & filled up water. They hooked us up with a birthday cake since I was celebrating mine! My husband and I came here yesterday for a date night and really enjoyed our meal. First off, the drinks were good and really quite strong! I got their lavender cocktail (I forget the actual name) and would definitely get it again. The food was - wow - outstanding! Their salmon had a glorious crispy outside and the potatoes were also nice and crispy. The asparagus was nicely seasoned and the soy glaze on top was delightful. Every bite was *chefs kiss*. My husband also loved his rigatoni. The prices? They aren't cheap. This isn't an every week type of place; but I don't think they are completely out of the ballpark taking into account the quality and location. Drinks are $16-$18 and entrees are ~$25-45 range. The service was very good! Our waiter was very polite and attentive, and staff was very good at clearing our plates, filling water etc. The ambiance? I have mixed feelings on. I love the view, and the decor was nice. Buuut the music was a bit too loud. And it was club type music...Luckily we were in a spot that wasn't fully covered so the sound could escape a little more, but still, I wouldn't say it's fantastic for a romantic evening as it's hard to hear what others at your table are saying. I would say choose softer music, let people enjoy the view and not be overwhelmed by noise. I see a lot of reviews about this place being stingy when it comes to seating you if you don't buy food. Obviously, we didn't face this obstacle as we did intend to order dinner. However, the host did ask us if we were going to order food; and I wonder if we would have said 'no', then we would have been turned away? If so, that's a problem. This restaurant has more far more cocktails than entrees on its menu, so it should not come as a surprise if guests want to come in for a few drinks and nothing else. I can understand that owners don't want people hogging a table if they aren't ordering enough, but there's got to be a better way of doing that. The other common experience I see is people being denied alcohol often. I wonder if part of the reason of this is because A) You have to climb 3 flights of stairs to get there and it's a legal concern or B) Their drinks are very strong so they're trying to be extra careful. Definitely time for an update since our last visit was nearly 10 years ago (!). We went here for dinner with friends between Christmas and New Year's Eve. We had a reservation and when we realized we were running early, they happily bumped up our reservation because they had a table available. Service was great. We started with a round of cocktails and mocktails and items from the appetizer/shareables. Everything was delicious although the standouts for me were the shishitos, cauliflower, and tomato and burrata salad. I got the salmon for my main and it was fine, although I would gladly trade it in for more of the shareables. Another person also ordered a fish dish and found it overcooked. Wagyu Skewers & Crispy Spicy Shrimp (a favorite) were tasty. Sea bass for dinner was cooked to perfection along with potatoes & a veggie. Service from Amaury was good but what added to it was the bus people who were always there to fill waters & clear plates. I recently went to Rooftop and honestly, it was pretty meh. I think most people go for the vibes and the view because the ambiance is definitely very pretty. The food was okay, but nothing really stood out or felt worth coming back for. The drinks were strong and had good flavor. I'm not much of a drinker myself, but my friends really enjoyed their lychee martinis. The service was nice and everyone was friendly, but overall, I probably wouldn't come back. I came here for my birthday, the hostess Ana was hospitable and kind. I was flustered that I didn't have coins for the meter and needed change and my friend was running late, she was patient with me. Once I was seated the view was fabulous the blue sky and the fluffy white clouds were breathtaking. I ordered the Spicy Maracuya and it was refreshing and spicy. I received four street size tacos and they were scrumptious, flavorful, and juicy. I gave only three stars as there was hair in my water as I took a drink, yuk!
