My friends and I stopped by after dinner hoping to enjoy some drinks. We were a party of 13, and despite the restaurant not being full, the host told us we should have contacted the event manager ahead of time to book a table. We were also told that in order to be seated, we would need to order food. The way this was communicated came across as very poor management. We easily could have taken our business elsewhere. While we ultimately decided to stay and didn't mind ordering food, the suggestion that we should have coordinated with an event manager--despite the restaurant clearly having space--felt unnecessary and disrespectful. This experience left a negative first impression to many and is something the restaurant should reconsider when it comes to accommodating larger groups, especially when the space is available. read more

Our dinner at Rooftop was one of those occasions when everything seemed to come together seamlessly. The Chilean sea bass I tried was so, so tender, yet crispy around the edges. The rest of the family had gone with the spicy shrimp rigatoni that came with a rich, flavorful sauce and just the ideal amount of heat. We ended the meal with their butter cake. Rich and decadent, but definitely on the sweeter side, which is how I usually like my desserts. Enjoyed a nice dinner here on Monday. Originally our party of 2 was given about a 30 minute wait time but we were able to be seated sooner. We were given a hightop table on the balcony. For an appetizer we ordered the brussel sprouts and heirloom tomatoes with burrata (couldn't decide between that and the crispy cauliflower but our waiter had good things to say about the heirloom tomatoes). What a lovely spot in Walnut Creek! This place is perfect for date nights, hangouts with friends, etc. At night the lighting is dim, and you get a view of downtown if you reserve edge seating. Calamari - Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The perfect combo! Served with a delicious cocktail sauce and ranch. Portion size is generous as well. Morgan Territory - a light beer that paired well with the calamari. Huckleberry Sunset - probably one of my favorite mixed drinks I've had. The taste of alcohol is nearly non-existent, and the mix of flavors is refreshing! I can't tell you why it took me so long to get here and experience this amazing place, but they now have a customer for life. I was able to make a same-day reservation on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, which I was surprised by. Happy, but surprised nonetheless. When we arrived, we were greeted at the top of the stairs and led to our table right away. This restaurant is absolutely perfect for a beautiful day in the Bay Area. Our waiter came right over and took our drink orders which was very surprising since it was packed. We ordered appetizers and a salad, and then the waiter circled back for us to order our meals. But let's talk about this appetizer. The lamb meatballs, top-tier. The Caesar salad we had, amazing. I ordered the short ribs which were delicious and my husband ordered the pasta, that I wasn't really a fan of (lacked seasoning to me), but we made it work. The star of the show was the butter cake. Don't do it!!! The space is nice but the food and the service were not and it was very expensive. This place up charges for everything! We were greeted by a very friendly hostess upon arrival. We were seated in the outdoor area. We promptly received water which was refilled regularly. Our server came to the table and just looked at us for a few moments and said nothing. I said hello and then he asked if we were ready to order. My husband ordered a margarita with casamigos tequila. I ordered a huckleberry sunset. Since my husband didn't really see anything on the menu that he really wanted, he ordered truffle fries, Mediterranean meatballs, and a Cesar salad with shrimp. I ordered the honey ginger soy glazed salmon that came with asparagus and fingerling potatoes. The fries were bland. There was no salt on the table so my husband used the ketchup that was on the plate. My husband said the meatballs were just okay (I don't try them). The Cesar salad was the size of a side salad but the shrimp were a nice size. Again, he said that was just okay. My dish, the salmon, has no flavor at all. The potatoes were under cooked, the asparagus was over cooked. There was an upcharge casamigos and a 20% service charge was added because it was the weekend. Our grand total was $174.38 which is A LOT for food that's not delicious and lacking service! We will not be back! read more

Updated review from out second visit yesterday. The rooftop restaurant is a nice venue on the third floor. The service yesterday was actually friendly and good. However the food is just overpriced and bad. The $20 burger (including the $2 upcharge for truffle fries which are just sprinkled on salty mushroom powder) was a joke. The enormous bun was hiding a tiny little hamburger patty. Oh and the meat itself had a weird metallic taste. One piece of lettuce, two slices of tomato and raw (!!!) onions completed this runner up to Burger King. The Banh Mi was clearly made by someone who has never been to Vietnam (or even San Jose). The pork should be seasoned and grilled not baked with some weird vinegar bbq sauce. The vegetables should be pickled. Where's the sriracha? Served with French fries? Took my godmother to celebrate her birthday. First time here in Walnut Creek. The weather was super hot that day. But the view is beautiful by the patios. We ordered roasted duck breast, salmon, crab salad, truffle fries and two drinks. Amaretto Sour is my favorite drink and the bartender made it just the way I like it. Super delicious ! The roasted duck breast not so much. It's a bit dry and hard to bite into. The salmon was good and tasty. The crab salad was average, I'm not too impressed. I recently had the opportunity to come and check out this place, I wasn't aware that three businesses were in one building with a shared address that was a bit confusing so I thought I'd share to avoid any confusion for others The food was great, however when we asked to split the plate into two shareable plates it was a bit awkward and disappointing to hear from our waiter that the kitchen staff refused While we did not appreciate the kitchen staff refusing our waiter, still made the remaining experience wonderful Drinks were very good however you're forced to close out at the bar before you move over to a table. It makes for arriving early awkward as well The hostess also refused to sit me at a table while I waited for the remainder of my party to arrive, which is pretty common, but still very unnecessary to have to continuously open and closed tabs in the same establishment They make it seem like you're going into a completely different establishment. When really you're just moving 4to 6 feet away from where you originally were at the bar. The places overall clean, but nothing exciting. Another inconvenience of this place is due to the shared space. The bathroom is located on a completely different level so you need to prepare to go up and down the stairs or wait for an elevator. read more

It had been a while since I visited this restaurant so I gave it a chance on Saturday and met a friend for sips and bites. Despite having made an online reservation we still waited 15 minutes to be seated. This might have been the foreshadowing. The ambience was pleasant, a mixture of high and low tables but no stand out decor. The noise level was quite surprising, it was so loud we could barely hear our server when he came to take orders. I started with the raspberry truffle cocktail. This drink was clearly not a looker but it taste like a chocolate raspberry milkshake with a hint of booze. For entrees we shared the tuna tartar and the mussels and clams. The mussels and clams were the clear standout with the rich, silky wine broth, and the fries were just perfect for dipping. There happened to be several birthday parties which might have contributed to the long wait and high noise level. After multiple attempts we finally flagged down our server for the check. Overall, Rooftop did its job of providing nourishment, there are other places I would like to visit in Walnut Creek before returning. read more

My overall experience at Rooftop was pretty decent. However, there was some miscommunication before we arrived. I had spoken with someone on Instagram about bringing a large group, and they made it seem like it wouldn't be an issue. But when we got there on Sunday, 1/12, for our leopard-themed women's event, we learned there were specific rules for large parties. I made 2 different reservations under my name but it didnt matter and we would not have been able to sit near each other. According to the manager, Allie (if I'm not mistaken), if we wanted to sit together we would have needed to pay extra ( $50 Min per person) for a private room, and we also couldn't be seated until our entire group arrived. Despite the initial confusion, Allie was really accommodating and handled everything well. In the end, about 10 of us showed up, and we were seated at the long table near the door. Due to the restaurant's staffing limitations, any additional guests wouldn't have been able to sit with us. Aside from that, the experience was great, the ambiance and atmosphere were fantastic, and we had a good time. The food was delicious! I only had the cauliflower, but it was seasoned perfectly, filling and absolutely fire. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meals, and everything looked amazing. The drinks were also really good! I had the cucumber drink, which was refreshing, but I think it could have used just a pinch more alcohol for the price. Big shoutout to our waitress she was cool and checked in frequently. Great first-time experience here! We came on a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised to get same-day reservations for two. Once we arrived, we were seated within five minutes and even given a few table options, which was a nice touch. We ordered the tuna tartare, short ribs, and salmon, along with a few cocktails. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, and everything we tried was well prepared and flavorful. Cocktails were on the pricier side, and there is an automatic 20% weekend gratuity added. While the gratuity felt a bit presumptuous, the service was genuinely great and attentive throughout the evening. The manager was walking the floor and engaging with guests, which added to the overall welcoming vibe. Dined here last evening and overall had a nice experience. The cocktails were excellent and the food dishes we ordered - the cauliflower, tomato & burrata, and spicy rigatoni - all tasted delicious. Our server was very attentive and checked on our table often throughout the meal. As far as wheelchair accessibility goes, this restaurant needs some improvement. All of the tables with a rooftop view are high top tables, excluding customers with disabilities. The hostess also did not seat us at the ADA section of the bar when we asked--the ADA section unfortunately appears to be used to store pitchers and other supplies. When I talked to the manager on-duty, he sincerely apologized, which I appreciated. I hope when we come back they will have taken this feedback into account and all customers can have the rooftop experience. Lastly, there is an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill, which does NOT go to the server. This information was only given when our server brought us the bill. It would have been nice if the hostess had informed us prior to dining that we would be expected to tip more than 20%, as the food is already quite pricey. read more

My wife didn't want a big spectacle on her 60th birthday, so we decided to have a quiet lunch at Rooftop. She ordered a salad topped with a grilled salmon. I had the sea bass with risotto, and my daughter had the spicy rigatoni with chicken. We also ordered the shrimp tacos (4 tacos). All of the dishes we ordered were delicious. The grilled salmon that came with the salad was cooked just right. The sea bass was good and the melted cheese in the risotto was just right and not overpowering the overall flavor of the dish. And my daughter had no complaints on the rigatoni as she cleaned up her plate. And saving the best for last was the shrimp tacos. The shrimp tasted so delicious and fresh that I wished we had more, but with all the food we had, the shrimp tacos outshined them all. And not to forget our server, (I forgot his name God bless his soul) he was very sweet and personable, with a happy demeanor. Hope they pay him well because he was very attentive to our needs. Overall, my wife's birthday celebration, even though it wasn't elaborate, it was a very nice experience and we will definitely will come back if we're in the area. We ordered a number of appetizers as he suggested and everyone was quite happy with the selection (Burrata, Cauliflower, Pork Belly, Lettuce Wraps, and Dumplings). I live in New Orleans and don't get to the Bay Area often and my oh my what I wouldn't give for that recipe!
