Have been to this restaurant 3 times. Two for dinner and once for happy hour and have never been disappointed. The main menu always has great food. My go to has been the steak frites. My wife usually changes it up depending on the menu but whatever she picks is always good. Recently went for the happy hour and will definitely coming back. HH oysters were such a good deal. Tostadas and popcorn chicken were also great. Not a single miss on the menu. This place routinely has great service and overall is a great dining experience. read more

Made an easy online reservation for Friday night. We sat outside on the patio but the weather wasn't bad and this time, the patio heaters were working. We had a very enthusiastic and friendly server. We started with the pulpo, and shrimp appetizers. Wife got the steak frites and I had the halibut special over the fresh corn polenta. Steak was skirt, so had good flavor with a bit of chew. Not sure why I only gave this place 4 stars. We have spent a serious amount of time here with laptops open and without the major electronics. The staff, drinks, food and ambiance is all great. The location of this place is in a very nice neighborhood and surrounded by lots of other businesses and stores. Parking is available in front but can get occupied quickly. There is also an underground garage around the corner but do keep in mind that you pay for it up until 7pm. The food- WOOOOOOOW THE OYSTERS!! I had to start there because these are scrumptious! Straight from Washington and they are so buttery. I had to order roughly about 16 total . Worth the price and the way these pair with a good beer are so bomb! The cheese and jam on bread was a nice starter. Mussels I would say are also very tasty and a must have. Curry sauce pairs good with the smell veggie bits in it. Our waitress made as extremely nice and sweep. Gigi who took care of us went above and beyond! Recommend a lot of different things and was very sweet! Social Bird is a downtown Lafayette staple. Great food, excellent service, and a casual yet elevated atmosphere. The crowd is, well, Lafayette.... but we won't hold this against SB. It does get busy, and for good reason, so a resie is a good idea. They have outdoor seating both in the front and back of the restaurant. Perfect for when the weather is cooperative. There is a paid parking lot in the back as well. Ok, let's talk about the food! My recommendations are: -Oysters (they have HH) -Artisanal Cheeses -Grilled Prawns -Salmon Tartare -Mushroom Risotto (excellent!!) They also have a vegan menu, so extra points there. Excellent cocktails and a great wine list. Service is warm and friendly, particularly at the bar. The bar staff is stellar, and will make you feel welcome. Ok, a couple of 'opportunities for improvement'..... The lack of internet connectivity. The restaurant's WiFi is virtually unusable, and so is the cell service in the immediate area. PLEASE invest in reliable WiFi for customers. This is kind of a given in this day and age in any urban area. Second, less downer pop and more unce-unce music please. Think more Purple Disco Machine and Tiesto, and less John Mayer and Ed Sheeran in his depressed era. With these changes, this place would be a solid 100. I've been meaning to try Social Bird for a long time, and I'm so glad I finally did. I loved the ambiance right away. When you walk in, there's a large central bar with seating all around it, plus tables along the sides and in the back. I believe they also have outdoor seating, but it was pretty cold when we went, so we stayed inside. The layout feels lively but still comfortable. The menu isn't huge, but honestly, I appreciated that--it made ordering easy without decision fatigue. We started with the soup of the day, which happened to be clam chowder, and it was so good. Rich, comforting, and flavorful. For mains, my husband and I shared the mussels and the steak. Both were excellent. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare--truly medium rare, juicy, tender, and spot-on. The mussels were also delicious, and I could've happily drank the broth they came in. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and I believe a lot of their ingredients are farm-to-table or at least very thoughtfully sourced. Even the fries stood out--they reminded me of In-N-Out fries in that super-fresh way, but elevated. Service was another highlight. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and took time to chat with us a bit, which made the experience even better. Overall, this is a place I'd absolutely come back to--no question. What a fun experience. We sat outside on the back patio which was comforting, being surrounded by mature plants. But, I have to add that first walking through the restaurant on a busy weeknight was a lift in the right direction. Finally got to check this place out! Loved it so much, I went back twice in 2 weeks. The first time we went, we ordered the three cheese board & some drinks. There's a lot that you can pay for right next to the back patio or you can park for free in the garage beneath. Our food was such great quality. The restaurant was winding down, yet our server was terrific and attentive throughout the meal, and the ambience was at just the right level of noise for us. We really enjoyed the their braised boneless short ribs which were succulent and topped with a rich gravy, along with sautéed mushrooms and herbs, and sitting on top of creamy polenta and accompanied by glazed sweet carrots. The portion size was good, and everything was seasoned well for our taste buds. Social Bird is hoppin' on the weekend ~ I feel like I'm late to the party to check this spot out and especially on a weekend evening. But, finally had the chance for a friend's birthday and it was so fun. We were able to sit outside and merge two tables together for a more intimate, community setting so our entire party could be together. We did make a reservation ahead of time, so fyi that might be the best move for larger parties. My friend and I did the 'girl dinner' thing ~ split an arugula salad with chicken as our protein and truffled, hand-cut fries. Drink-wise, I tried the Devil's Medicine (I'm a Mezcal fan) and it was fantastic. The garlic aioli with the fries was spot on, especially with a little hot sauce dollop added. They split the salad on two plates with the protein also which I think was a convenient and nice move. Our party thoroughly enjoyed their meals also ~ highlights that were shared were the lamb sliders, the fried chicken sliders, mussels, and burrata. My friend made a lunch reservation for five, to celebrate our belated birthdays, and we had such a nice dining experience here! I haven't explored much of Lafayette, so I was excited that this would be my first time in the area and trying out Social Bird. We were seated by the window to the right of entrance. Both were delicious, well seasoned, and a great start to our meal. I ended up ordering the wild prawns and polenta bowl, which was warm, comforting, and exactly what I was craving during the rainy weather we were having that day. Friends of mine also ordered the braised short rib sandwich, and a salmon bowl which they equally enjoyed! Service was decent, but we honestly didn't need much. The server checked up on us a few times, and even discussed books and Fourth Wing with us, so that was nice! The restaurant was moderately busy when we came in, and with the delicious food and drinks, I could see how they would fill up quickly for a lunch or dinner rush. What a perfect place to enjoy lunch with my girlfriend! Got a reservation and a cozy booth for two. The menu has something for everyone. I had the Grilled Mary's Chicken Breast Bowl and enjoyed it thoroughly. Each bite had yumminess... sweet, savory, crunch, protein chew all dressed with a Dijon vinaigrette. My girlfriend had the Blackened West Coast Cod Tostadas and did not leave a crumb for the dishwasher to clean. It was that good. We shared the Toffee Warm Pear Cake that yelled "winter is here". This place rocks on so many levels. We came on a Thursday night and super packed. Although there were a ton of people there, the service was still excellent for the pace of business. Great vibe and plenty of parking was available. We started with the octopus and KFC Korean fried wings. Of all the dishes, the octopus was our least favorite. It was ok, but after having so many different octopus samplers and different places in the past, it was average. The KFC Korean wings however, were on par with a holy movement! Those were so good that we wanted to lick the plate and chew the bones! Plus we saw lots of those wings gonna to all of the customers there so not a secret obviously. The flank steak with arugula and fries is a hearty meal, more than enough for two people and excellent in every way. The duroc pork and veal meatballs were also extremely pleasing but got lost in competing with the wings steak. Big win with this restaurant and would come back immediately. read more

I love this spot! This downtown Lafayette area is bustling with activity. Tons of people out walking enjoying the day and the many restaurants along this stretch. We ventured in for dinner on a Friday after work and weee not disappointed. While I waited for my group to arrive I sat at the bar to have a cocktail. Camilla was engaging and sweet. She remembered my drink from the time before and made it without issue. The bar menu and selections are vast with specialty cocktails, all kinds of high end liquor, wine and beer. When my crew arrived we were sat swiftly in a cute booth and greeted immediately with water by our waiter. We ordered the big plate of French fries and the bruschetta to share while we pondered our dinner choices and caught up with each other. For dinner one of us had the hanger steak which looked amazing. I had the Waygu burger and the other had the roasted beet salad. The waiter was extremely attentive and helpful. To end we all took the yummy cookies home and I also ordered a Blantons. The kicker for me on how special this place is was when he asked if I wanted a large ice cube or small. Okay, so that arugula salad was bomb. idk what oil, seasonings or anything they put on it but I inhaled that thing happily. the lamb skewers were good, and cheap because happy hour and the burger was cheap and easy because happy hour but at the end of the meal, after 3 different foods, I was still really hungry and everything had been kind of plain. One of three restaurants that are owned and operated by Esin and Curtis deCarion in the East Bay, Social Bird has to be my favorite. What I like about all three is that each location has amazing Happy Hours Sunday through Thursday that includes $1.50 oysters! That said, I've been to all three, but again, the b-b-b-bird, bird, bird, b-bird's the word. You see Esin in Danville feels like an old school restaurant that reminds me of Nilla wafers because it feels like a place grandma would like.   Revel Kitchen & Bar is a bit more modern and reminds me of a sweet morsel Toll House chocolate chip cookie because it's a place your parents would like.    Meanwhile, Social Bird feels like a deconstructed deep-fried strawberry shortcake topped with a citrus foam and 24-karat gold flakes. It's modern, clean, and tasty AF. I've had business lunches and happy hours at Social Bird. All their food is contemporary American. My favorite dish has to be the prime beef hanger steak bowl. Grilled soy-tahini rubbed hanger steak topped with chimichurri and served with lettuce, shiitake mushrooms with a vinaigrette sauce is my go-to lunch dish. The buttermilk chicken sliders are also fantastic. Is that why they are called Social Bird? Great drink selection as well. Craft beer and crafty cocktails. Ever since The Coop closed on Lafayette Circle, Social has filled the void. It's def our go-to spot and enjoy taking my out of town friends there, the staff is always so welcoming (like a restaurant family!) and it's fun to run into the friendly locals that frequent there too, from the coop days. It can get a bit noisy, since it's a small space when busy, but it's a lively noise...that just reminds you how lucky we are to be able to be around people again, after the last few terrible years of not. The chicken sliders and wings are a no-brainer, burgers are perfectly cooked and the fries are just great on their own (w the aioli) if you want something to go with your drink.
