I've been here a couple of times for business events. Today we had the salmon and lamb, and both were excellent. The wines are always tasty, and the complimentary bread with herb butter is soft and fluffy. The strawberry salad was especially good, even better than the arugula salad. The ambiance is lovely, our waiter was fantastic. As long as you don't eat the food, you'll have a wonderful time. The prices only add insult to injury. Our pasta dishes were horrible...goopy and weird tasting. I don't know what the curly white stuff on top of the angel hair pasta was but it was certainly not Parmesan cheese. The abundance of fried garlic chips ensure that you can taste nothing else. The flatbread is, well, flat (and flavorless). I don't know how they can call the dessert we ordered tiramisu. It tasted like a slice of cake from Safeway. Having said that, the chicken and the Acme bread were fine. As someone who lived in Italy for several years, this is a terrible excuse for an Italian-ish restaurant. read more

We dined here to celebrate my son-in-law's birthday. I have mixed reviews about this place. The ambience is nice, cozy, intimate, and fun. Menu items are on the high side, so be prepared to shell out some dough. We had a nice waiter, pleasant, cheerful, and very accommodating. I would give the waiter a rating between 4 and 5 stars. It was near closing time when we got there, but we didn't feel rushed to order or eat our dinner so that they could clean up and close the restaurant and head on home. We started with an appetizer and garlic bread (see picture). We had about six pieces of bread and as you can see in the picture, it was on the burnt side. I cannot believe that for the price you pay for a bread, they would serve this. I also ordered a black coffee, but it tasted like it had been sitting there since the morning and tasted really nasty. I asked to have a hot tea instead. Food was good. We ordered spaghetti, carbonara, some chicken dish, and a grilled salmon. All the food tasted delicious and we cleaned out the carbonara and spaghetti. After we ate our dinner, they gave my son-in-law a slice of tiramisu with a lighted candle. Overall, it was a pleasant evening and we enjoyed our food (except for the garlic bread). I'd like to see them do me good and give me a nice garlic bread the next time I eat here. read more

I was considering a lovely lunch in the outer courtyard to enjoy the Summer weather but it was too crowded so I opted for inside AC dining. I was half hour early for 1pm reservation so host allowed me to sit down to wait for my former colleague. I ordered a Strawberry Mugshot cocktail that was refreshing like a Moscow Mule. And upon my request they served me Acme bread with their House butter spread: garlic, herbs & red pepper flakes. My colleague had the lunch addition: Double Cheeseburger with fries which she stated was outstanding. Off the regular menu I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana. Delicious! For dessert we shared the daily ice cream: Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple, which was okay. I wanted the daily sorbet but the flavor was Lychee. Postino is one of our favorite Italian places. Think old school dimly lit with small accent lighting, two fireplaces, linen table cloths, great food and pleasant service. Portobello Mushroom fries had an excellent presentation. The mushroom cap was sliced into steak fry size, about 1/2" and fried. The prices were then stacked on top of each other as a square. A great appetizer to start dinner with. Arugula salad with bread sticks, shaved apples and wrapped in prosciutto had an excellent presentation where the sticks were arranged in a tower. Tagliatelle pasta with Dungeness crab and artichoke hearts gave us a nice entrée. A bit pricey with the expensive crab but very pleasurable and worth the price. Sautéed onions and English peas side were added as vegetables. Chocolate decadence cake with gelato and candle for wife's birthday. Wow, this was a great way to spend time on date night. read more

I had the most amazing dining experience at Postino's! A sweet, sweet friend was kind enough to give me a gift card for Postino's for my birthday, and I finally got around to using it recently. Everything from the attentive staff and our delightful waiter Brian to the intimate ambiance was doing it for me. Brian was an amazing guide, dishing out helpful advice when he found out I was a vegetarian, making perfect pairing recommendations about what beverage was best suited for stage of the meal we were at, and offering up perfect anecdotes about seasonal ingredients and local selections. We had the pleasure of sitting in this little curtained alcove near the entrance (I was worried it'd be freezing because of the proximity to the front door and my penchant for jumpsuits with a thigh-high slit, but we were all to the good.) Scored a Christmas Eve lunch res a day prior, for 1pm (a true flex because Postino is always packed). Sat immediately, holiday miracles do exist! The exterior and interior are giving Snow White Italian cottage meets classy old-school elegance. Cozy, charming, and effortlessly cute. If you're seated in the main middle area, you get a front-row seat to the kitchen where chefs were firing plates out back to back with zero chaos. Calm, collected, great communication and clearly on their A-game. Love to see it. Go team! Feast- Burrata plate: Burrata, olives, prosciutto, crostini, and a tomato jam that I was positive was fig. Plot twist: tomatoes. Sweet, delicious, and confusing in the best way. Spicy garlic capellini with prawns: Heavy on the garlic (thank you). Flavor was solid, but I did wish for more sauce to really cling to the pasta. Carbonara: Cousin approved, no notes. Garlic mashed potatoes: LOL, Yes, pasta and potatoes. Mind your business. I do wish they were a bit chunkier- personal preference. The carb load humbled us immediately. Portions? Generous (especially the pasta); but that's the Italian way and I respect it. Drinks- I'm an espresso martini enthusiast (borderline problem), so obviously I ordered one. Pretty good, would order again. Cousin ordered a Pinot noir. Service was pleasant and smooth. Made a dinner res for 715 and didn't get seated until 800 which was frustrating. Server didn't get to us for another 10 minutes. Didn't expect that from here seeing as it's one of the nicest restaurants in Lafayette. Other than the wait and the service, food was fantastic. Got the hand rolled pasta with rabbit and was sad that I got full so quickly. My wife got the pesto chicken pasta which I didn't care for but she thought was amazing. Been on an Italian food hyperfixation this month and glad a friend recommended Postino's. Came here on a Monday night and there were a fair number of tables. The restaurant is pretty spacious with plenty of seating and a rustic brick vibe. You enter through a mini hall of signed wine bottles (how cute) and into a dining room with a real fireplace! The portions are pretty generous. I would say one dish can be shared by two people. Even the clam appetizer can be a legit entree! The butter garlic sauce it came in was so savory I could've drank it straight. Which I, no lie, sorta did. I ordered the carbonara as my main and it was DELICIOUS. First of all the dish came piping hot and the noodles were still so hot even 20-30 mins into my meal I still had to blow on them! It was creamy, al dente and just perfect. The service was really good too. Waters were refilled quickly and we were checked in on often at good intervals. Defiantly will be returning. read more

Disgusting chicken dish: The only chicken option on the menu was fried in a greasy, unappetizing batter that made McDonald's chicken nuggets seem like a delicacy in comparison. I tried to remove the greasy, fried, batter but the chicken quantity was so small there was not much chicken left. Last time for Postino. The servers however were very nice. read more

It's hard to believe that you can find such a place on Mount Diablo Boulevard. Set back with an almost ferry tale theme. This is the work of master builder Carr Jones. Amazingly, it was the original Lafayette Post Office first built in 1937. The food was very good. i went here last night with my girlfriend and my old basketball coach and can say i was absolutely blown away by the food. we got the melon prosciutto and the salmon crudo to start with and it was just so good. you normally wouldn't expect melon and prosciutto to go together but it worked very well. in addition, we got the watermelon and strawberry and loved it because it was so fresh. for the entrees we got the pork chop and the steak were so juicy and honestly one of the best dishes i've ever had in a while. the veggies paired very well with the meat dishes and were so good that i am definitely excited to come back just for that. we ended the night with the strawberry lemonade and it was so refreshing and so so so good and honestly wish i could take a tub home. overall the service was amazing, people were super friendly and lots of people were making sure we were served and constantly attended to. lastly the ambiance was honestly just as good as everything else. you can tell the owner invests in the employees and really helps attract the customers. read more

Enjoyed a Satur-date lunch with my husband. Service was excellent and was grateful we were asked where we wanted to be seated (main or more corner/quiet). We had the fritto misto which had a mixed of calamari and shrimp. I was debating between the salmon and short ribs but decided on the short ribs. It was tender and the pairing with the polenta (oh so creamy!) was delicious. I even had extra to bring home. And it was just as good! The tiramisu was a perfect ending to our meal. Our reservation requested a quiet table in the small room if possible. Unfortunately a car issue made us a few minutes late but I had called the restaurant to let them know that. The hotels assured me not to worry there were plenty of tables available. When we arrived the hostess greeted us and the disappeared. When she finally returned we asked what the delay was. She snapped back: "You asked for a quiet table so we're setting one up!" Her idea of a quiet table was to seat us next to 10 or 12 people. Fortunately our server Heather was terrific and saved this birthday celebration from being a total disaster. I've been going there since it opened in 1998 but we won't be rushing back. read more

Service is attentive yet discreet. ARTICHOKE: So tender and flavorful, perfect with the (tartar?) sauce! MUSHROOM "FRIES": These are delicious! I'll never turn down a mushroom dish. Very lightly fried and almost succulent inside. Oddly laid on a bed of mayo (?) and random raw spinach FISH STEW: Hmm... This is fine? I thought the appetizers were more memorable. Loved the arugula salad with light lemon vinegarette topped with fried sunflower seeds and shaved parm. So simple yet so good! The classic Caesar was also a hit! I had the duck wing appetizer as my entree- meaty duck wings with homemade ranch and veggies. The eggplant parm and rabbit pasta are always go-tos. This was our first time at Postino and Lafayette. We didn't know what to expect. The minute we walked in, the hostess was cordial and we got seated by a window. Our server, Jesus, was outstanding. He was very attentive and told us about the menu items. We went straight for our main course. My husband had the ribeye steak. He didn't want garlic mashed potatoes or the garlic green beans so they suggested grilled zucchini. He was very pleased! The steak was served hot and the zucchini was very good. I ordered a fettuccine dish topped with a zucchini stuffed with meat. It was different but very tasty and I ate it all! Postino's is a bit pricey but well worth it. Came here for the first time with my partner for my birthday dinner earlier this month. We came early on a Monday night and got seated in the back room with the fireplace, which felt very romantic and rustic like a little restaurant you'd find just off the beaten path in any Italian village. Antonio was our server and he was an absolute delight! His knowledge of the menu and recommendations were superb! Every dish hit the spot..."Special" flatbread appetizer, half orders of salad, my "special" duck confit and risotto, his ribeye, half order of the crab pasta, delicious wines, and an amazing tiramisu made my birthday extra special!!! While visiting family in the area, we were excited to return to Postino after a many year absence. The last time we were here, we had a fantastic experience. But, holy cow, was this a thoroughly disappointing meal. To start on a positive note, the staff were great...mostly attentive and courteous. The other positive - the appetizers were tasty. We had the arugula salad and Cream of Mushroom soup. The Cosmopolitan was a tell that our dining experience was not going to be delightful, as it looked & tasted more like a cough syrup than a delicious, classic lightly pink tinted cocktail. The recommended Cabernet was okay. The mains were SO bland... the salmon was probably the best of the bunch, but it was not great. The "spicy" capellini was indeed spicy, but other than that it had NO flavor. It was ordered with a skewer of shrimp, which were equally tasteless and overcooked. I tried to melt garlic butter in the shrimp to give them a little flavor. Finally, the Farfelle was quite al dente and bland. The ambiance was fine and we were impressed watching about 40 salads being staged and delivered to a private party. Sadly, this was a bummer of a meal and one that was fairly pricey. IMHO Rachel was our server-extraordinaire for our table of ten. We all felt she deserved a drink on us, after having to take care of us! LOL She was very patient and never rushed us. We asked if we could have separate checks for three groups of our ten, and she happily obliged us. After giving us the dining specials of the night, she left us to ponder. The restaurant is quaint but spacious, warm and inviting. Our table was in a back room near a fireplace with view of the kitchen, and close to the restrooms. Our table was beautifully set, waiting for all of us to arrive. My family of three ordered; Calamari appetizer, $21, Eggplant parmesan, $26, Scallops & Pork Belly, $50, and New Zealand King Salmon, $42, and a shared Pear salad, $15. (Splitting the salad added an extra $1 upcharge). Others at our table ordered the Half Chicken, $32, and the Garganelli, $32, hand-rolled pasta, marinated roasted rabbit. My husband loved his Hokkaido scallops, and I loved the bite of pork belly that he shared with me. He only wished there had been at least one more scallop and one more slice of the pork belly. (The dish was served with three scallops and three slices of pork belly.) My salmon was perfectly cooked, nestled on top of a squash puree. It was good but I felt it needed an extra punch of flavor or seasoning. For dessert, we enjoyed the Affogato, vanilla ice cream, espresso, whipped cream, $14, and Tiramisu, $13. Service was prompt, available and friendly. We enjoyed our evening at Postino. Will we return? Sure! read more

My husband made a resy here for my bday and we both really enjoyed their spaghetti pasta. I actually wish I had ordered that instead of my steak because the pasta was rich and creamy but not too much on the stomach. The bread and butter we ordered as well as the salad was the perfect starter for our dinner but I'd be careful because it is easy to get full super fast. My steak was a little too crispy. Actually it was pretty burnt lol. All I could taste was the burnt pieces which resulted in me eating my husbands pasta instead. Service was great and everyone was really nice when we walked in. The service and food quality are always amazing! I work in the restaurant industry and I cannot fault Postino in any way except for one. The duck! The chef at Postino cooks and creates the best Duck breast I have ever had. If I am at a restaurant anywhere in the world and they offer duck, I order it. Yet not one has held a torch to the duck at Postino. They took it off the menu earlier this year and I stopped going until they put it back. As I said, I work in the restaurant industry so I understand the need to change up a menu. Yet when you have the ability to cook a certain dish to such perfection, there is no need to take it off the menu no matter the season. Please put the duck back on the menu, or offer it as a reoccurring special. Your chef has an amazing talent for how he prepares a unique dish, which has never failed to amaze me. Postino is an amazing restaurant but as someone who has tried at least 75% of their regular main menu, the duck is the stand out dish. The specials exemplify the chef's prowess, but he has a gift for duck and it needs to be shared with everyone. read more

We are at Positinos because my MIL met one of the owners at a party in Rossmoor. We parked in the private lot and as we walked to the front door, we Noticed the nice patio furniture on the lawn. We walked to the entrance, and were greeted by the staff. Good thing we had reservations because the restaurant was packed. We ordered the garganelli rabbit pasta, the carbonara, children's pizza, and the rib eye steak. I ordered a glass of cab franc. We loved the handrolled pasta in the sauce. The carbonara was the best, and that's probably the one thing that we would try again, and maybe the wine. The steak was served well done when we requested medium rare. We showed pur server as we wouldn't eat it. They remade the steak, and it came back cooked medium well. We didn't have time to ask for it to be remade because everyone else at the table was almost done with their meals. Other than the steak, the food was fine. read more

Postinos is a stable for my grandmother when anyone of her grandkids come to town. This time she ordered her go-to the capellini pasta, I got the special which was meatballs, and then we split the chocolate decadence cake. Everything was good as normal! She liked her pasta and I thought my meatballs were tasty. And of course the cake was excellent! We sat right by the kitchen door so all the coming and going took away from the restaurant a little bit but it was a good time and I'm sure my grandmother would like to go back next time I am in town.
