Postinos is a stable for my grandmother when anyone of her grandkids come to town. This time she ordered her go-to the capellini pasta, I got the special which was meatballs, and then we split the chocolate decadence cake. Everything was good as normal! She liked her pasta and I thought my meatballs were tasty. And of course the cake was excellent! We sat right by the kitchen door so all the coming and going took away from the restaurant a little bit but it was a good time and I'm sure my grandmother would like to go back next time I am in town. After a long day, my husband and I had a taste for Italian food. So like always, I trusted Yelp to guide me. We came across Postino among a few other choices in the Lafayette area. The Capellini on the menu was a dealbreaker for me. We came around 4:45 on Sunday right after opening. We were easily accommodated and greeted very pleasantly by the hostess. There were only two people in the restaurant when we arrived. When we left, it was packed. The restaurant gave the feel of an authentic Italian restaurant...with Soft jazz playing in the background. I loved the open kitchen and the excitement of the chefs. The aroma from the kitchen was simply heaven sent. Our server was great. He gave us great advice on what to select between two difficult meals and very friendly. That's important to me. We ordered the calzone-Scacciatta to start us off. It was toasted just right, and the cheese melted so perfectly. The Arugula and truffle oil was a flawless addition to this dish!! Next, we had the seared New Zealand salmon and I must say it's among the best salmon I've ever tasted. The texture was so light and fluffy , not to mention that it was seared perfectly with just the right amount of crust. The Capallinni had an interesting twist with its light spicy sauce and garlic flavors. It was slightly bland to me. But, I eat a lot of salty food so, I appreciate its mild salt. The hint of spice made up for the salt...most definitely!!!! Finally, for dessert, we had the special which was a baked peach Crostada topped with caramel and vanilla bean ice cream & the chocolate cake with sea salt, caramel and vanilla ice cream!! We didn't leave a crumb on our plate! We will be back next time to try the duck, and the steak!! We're working our way to being regulars!!! We were looking for a nice end of the work week dinner and we haven't been here for a bit. We managed to get a table for 4 at the last minute. Nice and charming interior, friendly greeting by our server. We ordered drinks, then started with the unique and tasty mushroom fries, burrata, and tuna crudo. I ordered the seafood stew, we also had the salmon, and the spaghetti carbonara. Everything looked and tasted great. My seafood dish had very fresh and plump prawns. Nothing except the calamari is really worth mentioning... and that's saying something. The rest? Forgettable. $60+ for a duck breast & leg confit that's small, sitting on a bed of orzo with a few blackberries tossed in? I mean... the math ain't mathing. It was, simply put, okay. The steak, on the other hand, was just a slab of meat without any real thought or finesse behind it. Partner finished a few bites, and we took the rest home in a doggie back. A place like this should *nail* a steak. And when you look around the room, it starts to make sense. The average age of the patrons hovers around 60+, and that might explain why the food feels like it's coasting on nostalgia rather than inspiration. We came on a Sat. with 5:00 reservation so it was not crowded. There is parking available at that time. For appetizers we shared the mushroom fries - boy it was fantastic! If you like fries and mushrooms - it's a combination of that. Mushrooms lightly coated and fried over some mayonnaise based sauce. I had Garganelli - rabbit with pasta, was delicious, just slightly salty, rabbit had a few bones (so be careful as I did not expect that), pasta not served soft. Hubby had Fish Stew which was also delicious and again for his taste just slightly too salty. Bread was also delicious with flavored butter. We asked for refills. As stated on menu, you must ask for bread, it's not automatic. (This seems to be the trend at many Italian restaurants.) Service was fantastic. Empty plates taken away almost immediately. Water glasses refilled and never less than half full. Restaurant does tend to be a bit noisy. Cost: definitely a restaurant for special occasions. Our total costs for the shared appetizer, garganelli and fish stew was just under $99 not including tip. (No drinks, just water - we do not drink.) Help yourself to a few small hard candy in a bowl on your way out to slightly sweeten the end of the meal. Summary: very pleasant meal with pleasant waiter and attentive staff. read more

Went to Postino for lunch last Tuesday and had the Rabbit dish. Everything tasted good but the Rabbit was tiny diced up pieces and very little tiny diced up pieces. Could not tell if it was Rabbit, I think it was chicken. I'm disappointed with my experience and don't plan on eating there again. read more

The greeter was great young man, we got seated and the service was just ok. We got there at two pm. Server lady 50 ish w ponytail not friendly, seemed tired, no water refilled, & never asked. I have been meaning to post this since I had an amazing dinner at Postino on Saturday night. I don't know why I forget about Postino. It is always so good! Hands down the best food in Lafayette. Great ambiance. Great service, and amazing food! Thank you for not cutting corners. We had the carbonara as a shared starter. AMAZING. We also had the Mary's chicken piccata and their signature short ribs with polenta. Heather was a great server. She didn't just try and upsell us. She gave us sincere responses to what her favorite dishes are. She was not looking to up the tab. I truly appreciate that. Had a lovely birthday dinner here with my husband, and the food was portioned generously and was full of flavor. The cheesy garlic bread was absolutely delicious, and we would come back just to have that again. We also had the lamb Ragu pasta, and I particularly enjoyed the burrata charcuterie appetizer plate at the start of our meal. We were seated outside, which had a lovely and relaxing, secluded vibe. I would give the chef 10 stars for the warm potato salad. We went for a special occasion dinner just 2 of us and it's a beautiful building, definitely date night vibes. The server was great, the food was also good. We asked the server to beg the chef for the warm potato salad recipe because it was hands down the best potato salad we've ever had and our favorite thing we had there. The one downside was we were by a kind of loud group, but not the restaurants fault. The is place is definitely on the fancier side but at reasonable, mid range prices which isn't too far off from the more casual restaurants in the area. A lot of large parties there for celebrations but we came with a group of four. We shared some calamari and garlic bread as appetizer, which was so crispy and the garlic bread was full of cheesy, garlic flavor. Loved it. The apps were so heavy that most of us were full by the time it came to the mains. I got the rabbit pasta which was good. Good and mediocre experience: Good: Food and service Mediocre: ambiance (dated looking restaurant). Restaurant was half full at 6pm and they sat my party of two at the smallest possible table really meant for one person and it was squeezed between two tables of diners. There were at least 25-30 other tables available that were still not used when we were finished. I asked to be re-seated and they obliged. Menu generally stays the same. Prices are fair to overpriced. Parking lot now has paid meters which is not good. I have dined at Postino many times over the years. I think they are struggling and riding their previous reputation. They need to up their game or they will go out of business. read more

Made a reservation for my wife and myself on her 70th birthday. Made it about 2 months ago. Was supposed to be inside, was called the day before, was told there was only a table outside in November. They told me they did not have space inside, possibly a table in a small space in the bar. I have been there many times and have enjoyed it but now I am not sure if I will go back. When we crave Italian, its an easy choice to go to Postino in Lafayette. The dish to try here is the short ribs. They put the meat on top of a creamy polenta that is to die for. It also is topped with peas and scallions and red onions. What a beautiful dish. Great to get my protein and veggies on one plate. On a recent visit, we got to meet the executive chef. His name is Stewart Beatyy and he was a delight to meet. Such a creative mind. He really is an artist. The ambiance is a combination of New American and Italian. Nice and cozy. read more

The peach salad looked very fresh and good and got raves from those who had it. They really fell down on the entrees. My very small half chicken was terribly over cooked and over marinated. The white meat was like sawdust and the dark meat was dry but edible. The vegetables weren't very good, either. At $34., it was a total disappointment. The eggplant parmesan and risotto didn't look appetizing and solicited no positive comments. This lovely white tablecloth Italian restaurant in Lafayette has a country club atmosphere, where you can dress up a little and regulars can be treated like royalty. Great for romantic dinners, or dining with friends. The attractive bar area was packed, so if you like quiet ask for an outside table on the beautiful patio or sit away from the bar. We didn't see any children on the weeknight evening we were there. We didn't feel rushed. Our server was very busy yet the friendly helpers, thanks Arturo, saw to our every need. The menu is limited with common appetizers, salads and entrees. There were no special offerings. Desserts were large enough to share, and looked delicious. I had the BEST experience tonight at Postino! I was warmly greeted at the door and immediately seated in one of the many cozy little nooks in the restaurant. The place was buzzing with many large parties, yet my friend and I were treated royally- never rushed. Our amazing server, Heather, brought me a delicious glass of Sauv Blanc almost immediately. Executive Chef Stewart Beatty's specials were delightful. We ordered the Burrata appetizer and practically licked the plate clean, not wanting to waste a single bit of that San Marzano Tomato Jam. I chose one of the special entrees: Risotto with Spinach and Beef Tenderloin- out of this world! The rice was silky and the beef was so tender it practically melted in my mouth. My friend had the Sole, which was prepared in a way that kept the fillets so tender and yet had a lovely browned crust. It sat atop a bed of garlic mashed potatoes studded with golden raisins and toasted almonds. I topped off the meal with the house-made fresh strawberry ice cream- not too sugary sweet and you could really taste the fresh strawberries. They had drinks flowing but it took foreeeeeever to get seated and place our orders. The salad was fine. What to say. It was a salad. Didn't rock my world but was a nice start. The eggplant parm was good but it was such a small serving. The chocolate cake for dessert was the highlight. The restaurant is beautiful but the private room wasn't as nice either.
