We were traveling home during rush hour and decided to to stop and eat. The Portobello fries are delicious. My wife had the Tagliatelle with Dungeness crab. I had the Garglameli (sic) with roasted rabbit. The food was delicious. It was our second time eating there. We will be back as the pasta is homemade and everything we had was delicious. We came on a Sat. with 5:00 reservation so it was not crowded. There is parking available at that time. For appetizers we shared the mushroom fries - boy it was fantastic! If you like fries and mushrooms - it's a combination of that. Mushrooms lightly coated and fried over some mayonnaise based sauce. I had Garganelli - rabbit with pasta, was delicious, just slightly salty, rabbit had a few bones (so be careful as I did not expect that), pasta not served soft. Hubby had Fish Stew which was also delicious and again for his taste just slightly too salty. Bread was also delicious with flavored butter. We asked for refills. As stated on menu, you must ask for bread, it's not automatic. (This seems to be the trend at many Italian restaurants.) Service was fantastic. Empty plates taken away almost immediately. Water glasses refilled and never less than half full. Restaurant does tend to be a bit noisy. Cost: definitely a restaurant for special occasions. Our total costs for the shared appetizer, garganelli and fish stew was just under $99 not including tip. (No drinks, just water - we do not drink.) Help yourself to a few small hard candy in a bowl on your way out to slightly sweeten the end of the meal. Summary: very pleasant meal with pleasant waiter and attentive staff. read more

Had a lovely birthday dinner here with my husband, and the food was portioned generously and was full of flavor. The cheesy garlic bread was absolutely delicious, and we would come back just to have that again. We also had the lamb Ragu pasta, and I particularly enjoyed the burrata charcuterie appetizer plate at the start of our meal. We were seated outside, which had a lovely and relaxing, secluded vibe. I would give the chef 10 stars for the warm potato salad. We went for a special occasion dinner just 2 of us and it's a beautiful building, definitely date night vibes. The server was great, the food was also good. We asked the server to beg the chef for the warm potato salad recipe because it was hands down the best potato salad we've ever had and our favorite thing we had there. The one downside was we were by a kind of loud group, but not the restaurants fault. Only one small note for the restaurant: the fried calamari/shrimp/pickle appetizer looks very cute in the cone but it makes it really difficult to eat out of. read more

The is place is definitely on the fancier side but at reasonable, mid range prices which isn't too far off from the more casual restaurants in the area. A lot of large parties there for celebrations but we came with a group of four. We shared some calamari and garlic bread as appetizer, which was so crispy and the garlic bread was full of cheesy, garlic flavor. Loved it. Good and mediocre experience: Good: Food and service Mediocre: ambiance (dated looking restaurant). Restaurant was half full at 6pm and they sat my party of two at the smallest possible table really meant for one person and it was squeezed between two tables of diners. There were at least 25-30 other tables available that were still not used when we were finished. I asked to be re-seated and they obliged. Menu generally stays the same. Prices are fair to overpriced. Parking lot now has paid meters which is not good. I have dined at Postino many times over the years. I think they are struggling and riding their previous reputation. They need to up their game or they will go out of business. read more

Made a reservation for my wife and myself on her 70th birthday. Made it about 2 months ago. Was supposed to be inside, was called the day before, was told there was only a table outside in November. They told me they did not have space inside, possibly a table in a small space in the bar. I have been there many times and have enjoyed it but now I am not sure if I will go back. Jamila was on top of everything coordinating all the meals and wine selections to make the family room look beautiful and fit all our guests. When we crave Italian, its an easy choice to go to Postino in Lafayette. The dish to try here is the short ribs. They put the meat on top of a creamy polenta that is to die for. It also is topped with peas and scallions and red onions. What a beautiful dish. Great to get my protein and veggies on one plate. On a recent visit, we got to meet the executive chef. His name is Stewart Beatyy and he was a delight to meet. Such a creative mind. He really is an artist. The ambiance is a combination of New American and Italian. Nice and cozy. read more

The service was so wonderful, truly special! The ambiance in the courtyard was great, very special, as well. My hibiscus proseco cocktail was fabulous! The burrata appetizer was really nice. The peach salad looked very fresh and good and got raves from those who had it. They really fell down on the entrees. My very small half chicken was terribly over cooked and over marinated. The white meat was like sawdust and the dark meat was dry but edible. The vegetables weren't very good, either. At $34., it was a total disappointment. The eggplant parmesan and risotto didn't look appetizing and solicited no positive comments. That said, on a nice day or evening, I'd go back to sit in the courtyard and I'd order cocktails salads and appetizers. read more

No heat at all and I had to wear my coat the whole time. I asked to move, but they said all tables were booked. I went to the restroom and they were seating two people at table closer inside the restaurant. After telling me there wasn't any. We ordered the chips and blue garlic cheese dip. Dip was great, but the chips tasted stale. I ordered short-ribs and was so disappointed. It tasted like pot roast not like a good short rib. My husband's food was fine. This lovely white tablecloth Italian restaurant in Lafayette has a country club atmosphere, where you can dress up a little and regulars can be treated like royalty. Great for romantic dinners, or dining with friends. The attractive bar area was packed, so if you like quiet ask for an outside table on the beautiful patio or sit away from the bar. We didn't see any children on the weeknight evening we were there. We didn't feel rushed. Our server was very busy yet the friendly helpers, thanks Arturo, saw to our every need. The menu is limited with common appetizers, salads and entrees. There were no special offerings. Desserts were large enough to share, and looked delicious. The adjacent parking lot is close and has meters. We will be adding Postino to our Lafayette favorites. read more

I had the BEST experience tonight at Postino! I was warmly greeted at the door and immediately seated in one of the many cozy little nooks in the restaurant. The place was buzzing with many large parties, yet my friend and I were treated royally- never rushed. Our amazing server, Heather, brought me a delicious glass of Sauv Blanc almost immediately. Executive Chef Stewart Beatty's specials were delightful. We ordered the Burrata appetizer and practically licked the plate clean, not wanting to waste a single bit of that San Marzano Tomato Jam. I chose one of the special entrees: Risotto with Spinach and Beef Tenderloin- out of this world! The rice was silky and the beef was so tender it practically melted in my mouth. My friend had the Sole, which was prepared in a way that kept the fillets so tender and yet had a lovely browned crust. It sat atop a bed of garlic mashed potatoes studded with golden raisins and toasted almonds. I topped off the meal with the house-made fresh strawberry ice cream- not too sugary sweet and you could really taste the fresh strawberries. Postino really does a phenomenal job going out of their way to make their guests feel like "family" and providing an exemplary experience that shouldn't be missed. read more

Came here with my elderly mom who had good memories prior to our visit, but I won't be taking her back. The receptionist and our waitress were so rude (both eye-rolled behind my Mom's back at her admittedly elderly questions). They had a great dessert, a Mexican hot chocolate ice cream, but dinner was forgettable, and there are too many nice people in Walnut Creek to subject her to such out of context service at a restaurant of this level. My husband had this and I was surprised that it came with a fried egg on top. First time I've seen it come this way, He said it was just ok Tiramusa. 2/5. Wow. No alcohol or espresso flavoring. I would just call this cake with a bit of cream Berry cobbler 3/5. The cobbler was good. The berries were way too sweet, but the ice cream and granola were good Coffee 2/5. How do you mess up coffee? They had drinks flowing but it took foreeeeeever to get seated and place our orders. The salad was fine. What to say. It was a salad. Didn't rock my world but was a nice start. The eggplant parm was good but it was such a small serving. The chocolate cake for dessert was the highlight. The restaurant is beautiful but the private room wasn't as nice either. 99% of the time when I ask someone I'm supposed to meet in Lafayette where they want to eat, they say Postino. It's a great place for a celebration, special dinner or to have a meeting in their private dining rooms. Staff is incredible and food is always fresh and delicious. I don't often get chicken when at a restaurant but they make the most amazing roasted chicken! Seasoned just right every time. My alternate is their salmon which is moist and flavorful. Also love just meeting friends for happy hour and having flatbreads and cocktails. read more
