Chicken Marsala -- just bizarre, with a thick and heavy sauce atop a mound of undercooked, crunchy risotto.

Our server was lovely, but the entrees were a sad disappointment. Bring back the old menu. Why fix what wasn't broken?

Had an excellent meal at Massimo. The food was excellent! Was a little uncomfortable when check in. The restaurant had lots of empty tables as it was around 5p Sunday. We were asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. The guy says, ' no problem', then walks us through the 2/3 empty restaurant to a side room. Really didn't appreciate that, but there was a large party also sitting in the side room. The service was good, but I think our waitress may have been helping guest in the main dining room. We didn't see her nearly enough. Thankfully, the extended staff kept the water glass covered. Side note, there were a few misses between request not actually making it to the table. At the end of the day, we just reasked the busboy and continued enjoying our food. Definite communication ussues between the waitress and the bus staff. I'm pretty sure at least two of our request went to the other party. Then when paying bill, had more circle communication just trying to break a $20. We wanted to leave extra for the busboy, but he was literally scared to touch the money. ‍ At the end of the day... will try another day.... the food really was excellent.

Massimo is our favorite before a show at Dean Lesher theatre. The charming, romantic, restaurant is elegant. Each table is adorned with a candle. Tables are covered with white linens that bring us back to days where nice restaurants all had linens. Service was excellent. Our server regularly asked about the courses he delivered. The sea bass with mashed potatoes and asparagus was extremely tasty. The burrata had great texture and flavor. The Sbriciolata lemoncello dessert was a very pleasant surprise. We strongly recommend you giving them a try. Updating to re-add photos

    Definitely not cooked enough.

From our reservation time to receiving food was over 1 1/2 hours. First dish delivered to last dish delivered was another 10 minutes. When the food arrives the 2 Mother's Day Crab Benedicts arrived looking completely different. One had paprika and parsley on top, the other was plain Hollandaise. One had barely cooked eggs, completely runny whites and yolks. The other Benedict had basically hard boiled eggs. See pics. This was a horrendous experience. Also, the kitchen was not really busy from my observation.

Beautiful location and fantastic service! Every week we try to check out a new restaurant, and this spot came highly recommended. We started with their amazing cheese bread and homemade meatballs. I'm usually super picky when it comes to meatballs, but these were so good--and dipping the cheese bread in the sauce? Game changer. I ordered the Mango Tango martini, and honestly, it tasted like vacation in a glass. I could've easily had three more! My girlfriend got the cucumber cocktail and thought it was okay, but not nearly as good as mine. For our entrees, we ordered the Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Marsala, and the Pasta Massimo. Everything looked beautiful and was cooked perfectly, but we all agreed it could've used a bit more seasoning. That's really my only critique--flavor-wise, it felt a little underwhelming. Service was excellent--our waiter was super friendly and attentive--and the restaurant itself was spotless. I'd absolutely come back for appetizers and drinks. Definitely worth a

I'm going to give Massimo 5 stars, not necessarily because the food is the best thing I've ever had but for a few reasons. I had a good well rounded experience here. We went on a slow night before July 4th. 1. The service was strong and they are super attentive. 2. The bang for your buck. The menu is fairy priced the food is solid, not spectacular but solid. But the amount of food you get for the price is some of the best in Walnut Creek. Normally I feel like I get overcharged when I eat out in Walnut Creek. This I felt like was great value. I do wish the corkage fee was slightly cheaper or you could get a deal for bringing 2 bottles. Some of the food.... -The cheese platter was only $23, I didn't get a photo of that but it was super filling and you got a good amount of food for the price. At most places I think this is a rip off, I 100% would get this again here. -Soup of the day only $9 and it was lobster that day, absolute steal. -Crab Stack $28, very good, I wanted to-try this I did like it but probably wouldn't do that again. -Shrimp Capellini $33 my wife really liked this. -Rib Eye steak $47 - This is one of the only things I think maybe I could do better, I would get steak here again but probably something different for the price, it was good still for the price but I just prefer my own. -Parm Fries - they had really really awesome fries. -Blackberry chese cake..... I don't normally get desert but so so so so good!! One of the best values in WC, would return.

The NYE menu - unbelievable. We would have came even if the price was $150 pp

Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Value 10/10 We came as a large group for NYE late seating and although it was raining cats and dogs outside, dinner was magical. This is our second year here and I was floored. I started off with a new cocktail for me the French 75 with vodka vs gin and my husband had bourbon neat. The lady bartender was so good, friendly and easily took care of our crowd with wonderful cocktails. The menu and the food quality is exceptional. Stephanie MA, was our server and she was friendly, met our table of 12 every need which is hard with a big group. The menu is pre fix and we couldn't been happier I started with grilled oysters topped with butter and caviar. My husband had focaccia topped with crap and prawns. I had seared scallops and my partner had the fig salad and a huge portion of filet mignon topped with crab and prawns. I had the seared duck breast and for desert chocolate lava cake for me and a lemon foam concoction. Each of the food offerings were plated beautifully and our group was happy with everything. We finished our meal and at midnight we had a champagne toast, a balloon drop and old school dj music encouraging all of us to join on the dance floor. Massimo's outdid themselves and I intend to come in for dinner throughout the year as we live close. It is without reservation,I encourage you to dine here. I'm definitely coming next year for NYE. Bravo!

Best medium rare burger that we have had in a long time without having to send the burger back to the kitchen multiple times. Today, we ordered the Massimo Burger, Fish and chips and a Cabernet. We were so happy with our choices. I rarely eat fish and chips, but I was looking forward to carbs so that ordered fish and chips as my meal. We were so happy with our meals. The service was amazing and the restaurant was clean!

Loved Massimo's! Called the place and luckily they were able to save us a seat of 4 on a Friday night! Food tasted delicious, there was a live piano playing in the background and overall a nice stay. Our food did take awhile but our waitress always checked up on us and updated us so it wasn't bad. Went during my birthday weekend and got their complimentary dessert and our waitress gave us an extra one as it was a double date. Absolutely loved her! She definitely made our night special. Steak was juicy and medium rare, pastas were nicely al dente and our drinks tasted great! Would come here again.

We rarely do other Italian spots in Walnut Creek, but Massimo Ristorante serves lunch and had covered outside seating during the rainy weekend, so we decided to try them out. Everything but my caesar salad was delicious. The affogato was rich and the ice cream decadent, the sides of veggies were cooked perfectly and seasoned well, and the tiramisu with caramel and cocoa powder was light and sweet without overpowering. That being said, my salad had about the same price point as the amazing salad at Chataeu, however Massimo's was average. The dressing didn't feel fresh and the chicken tasted dry and bland. It wasn't bad, but felt inexpensive. The service was spot on, friendly and prompt, and they have quite a bit of covered outside patio seating with heat lamps that also boast fresh flowers on the tables. I just wish my salad had been better. All in all, I'd absolutely return but order the pasta next time.

Came here for a holiday dinner outing with my team from work. After being seated, we were informed that a lot of the items on the menu were out due to the rush that happened a few weeks prior- which was very disappointing. The dining room was pretty empty and we ordered shortly after being seated. However, the food took an unusually long time to arrive. There were a few stand outs when it did arrive- the cauliflower and the garlic bread were great. However, I ordered the salmon dish and the plate looked like it had water in it, as well as the salmon was overcooked and dry. I was disappointed in this meal as Massimo Ristorante has a lot of great reviews but it fell short when dining in.

Enjoyed a late brunch and sat at the bar since I'm solo. Service was excellent. Beautiful decor and more of an upscale ambiance. Started with the Caesar salad . Lettuce was nice and crisp and the dressing was tasty. Had Carbonara which had crispy pancetta, mushrooms and peas. The sauce was not as heavy with cream that most carbonara has and I enjoyed their interpretation of this dish. Requested bread and glad I did! The bread was fresh with a crunchy crust and soft in the middle. What I really appreciated about this was the butter was soft!! I don't like butter that is hard as a rock so this was so nice to be able to actually spread the butter! Most of their pasta is dry with exception of ravioli and that is not on their brunch menu. I'll be back to try their dinner menu.

Interior is interesting, it's like you're dining at someone's home? Street parking or there are lots nearby with the first hours or so free. Service was good  The Valentines prix consisted of an app, entree, and dessert, some of which are not on their regular menu!!  -bread and marinara (4/5): bread was great, thick slices and nice crust. Marinara was standard -potato-leek puree (4/5): came in a cute little cup to drink out of, good flavor -gamberoni (5/5): prawns were a good size and perfectly grilled. The sauce was a good addition -polette (4/5): meatballs were juicy and the pesto was flavorful and creamy. Interesting thing to have as an appetizer though -fettuccini carne (5/5): I always have an internal struggle about getting a red sauce or a cream sauce, so this was the perfect option as a creamy red sauce pasta. Serving size was good, and there was also plenty of meat and mushrooms, which I loved! Flavor was great! -lamp chop (4/5): good grilled flavor, but one was slightly too raw for our liking so we had to send it back to the kitchen to cook it some more. Our waitress was very understanding though! The mashed potatoes and veggies were also good. -tiramisu (3.5/5): good flavor, but there was wayyy more cream than ladyfinger, so the textural balance was off. And I love cream! -peanut butter chocolate brownie (4/5): really good but also pretty sweet. Loved how thick the whipped cream was, but didn't taste as much peanut butter as I would've liked Overall, I had a great experience for their valentines day prix menu. Food was great and I would definitely go back to try their pasta!

The pace of our dinner moved along exactly as expected. Service (Jess, et al) is friendly, professional and timely. Members of the service staff moved in and out efficiently to refill water, remove plates and keep our table uncluttered. The dining room is busy and loud (or maybe we're old), so there was quite a bit of "what did you say" in our conversations, but it did not diminish the experience. The wine list provides a great selection to complement the menu without breaking the bank. Menu prices are in line with what we see these days - and the large portions make dining here a great value. Our table ordered Pollo Scallopini, Vitello (veal) Scallopini, Melanzane (eggplant) Parmigiana, and the off-menu special Salmon Piccata. Everything was excellent. The veal was a big hit with the table. Strongly recommend making a reservation. Looks like they do a good job with larger parties without impacting smaller tables and couples. We chose Il Fornaio Walnut Creek to celebrate both my birthday and my daughter's birthday. We were pleasantly surprised by the spacious, elegant dining room. When making our reservation, we noted that we were celebrating two birthdays. As a party of 10, including a 5-month-old baby and a 3-year-old toddler, we were seated at a large family-style table in a quieter area of the restaurant. It felt like we had our own private celebration space. The kitchen did not disappoint. We ordered two Tomahawk steaks, which were expertly prepared and carved tableside by the chef. Every dish we ordered was delicious, and the affogato was one of the best I have ever had. Unfortunately, our waiter fell short of the restaurant's otherwise high standards. Despite ordering appetizers, salads, and drinks, our water glasses remained empty for extended periods. My husband eventually had to speak with the manager because neither the waiter nor his assistant seemed attentive. Since the restaurant was not busy on a Monday evening, this was disappointing. The manager was excellent and quickly addressed our concerns. When she asked about the birthday celebration, I explained that both my daughter and I were celebrating, yet only one candle was provided despite our mentioning this during the reservation and to our waiter. The manager immediately apologized for the oversight. Another issue arose when we requested the dessert menu. Our grand baby was becoming restless as it approached bedtime, so we wanted to order quickly. However, our waiter repeatedly told us to wait until he had completely cleared the table before bringing the desert menu. It was an unnecessary delay. Obviously, we could have already been reading through the dessert menu while he was clearing the table. Our waiter did not know about time Management. To make matters worse, the complimentary birthday ice cream was served to the wrong person, even though the waiter had been told multiple times who the birthday celebrants were. We also requested an extra candle for my daughter's tiramisu, but that request was ignored. We shared one birthday candle. Despite the service issues, I still consider this restaurant a very good for dining experience because of its outstanding food, attentive manager, talented chefs, and warm atmosphere. We spent over $800 on dinner and typically leave a 25% tip for excellent service. However, due to the lack of attentiveness by the waiter and waiter assistant, we gave only a 20% tip. (Honestly, the chef and the manager deserved the tip More than the waiter himself.) Please don't give this waiter a large party because, the service has a negative impact and leaves a sour taste. I would give this restaurant a 5 star, it only fell short because of this waiter. Il Fornaio Walnut Creek offers food and ambiance that rival much more expensive restaurants. With more attentive service and better attention to detail, the overall experience would be truly exceptional.

Our waiter left us sitting for very long periods of time between courses, and we actually had to flag down another server to get the check. For my part, I expected better than the food I received. My husband and I split the chopped Italian salad, which we both agreed was rather flavorless and definitely underdressed. I ended up pouring some of the oil and balsamic vinegar from the bread dipping plate into the salad, which made it a little better. I ordered the Tuesday Trio which was a sampling of three supposedly popular pasta dishes. The Tagliatelle with Ragu was OK but a little dry. The corkscrew pasta with sun-dried tomatoes and pesto cream sauce was actually quite good, but my biggest disappointment was their rigatoni à la vodka, which is one of my favorite dishes. This restaurant's version was heavily flavored with smoky bacon, which, in my opinion really drowned out the lightness of a creamy vodka sauce. It was also pretty salty - I couldn't really eat it. However, my husband's Pollo de Toscana was delicious. Overall, I was unimpressed. I know there are better Italian places out there. Probably won't be back.

We originally planned to grab boba and eat at a different restaurant but when we parked the smell in the air called us to Tomatina instead. We originally came in and the older gentleman said they couldn't seat us right away and to come back in 20 minutes. We didn't mind and took a walk around the block and was seated right away when we returned and he brought us menus. A waiter came and was friendly, making sure he got the order correct. It seemed like he may have been in training. We decided to each get a lemonade, share the meatball appetizer, I ordered the pasta trio and my husband ordered the chicken parmesan. The meal started out nice with the drinks immediately coming out and the appetizer shortly after. The drinks were good, however they were out of pint glasses and came in a collins glass instead. The waiter mentioned the lack of pints and the smaller glass calling it fancy but didn't reference if we'd get a discount or a refill due to the smaller portion as a result of the glass switch. The meatballs were tender and had a good flavor. The sauce was nice and the bread was serviceable. After we finished our appetizer, there was a lack in service for at least 15 minutes. They did not clear the dirty dishes, offer water, or provide any type of check in. While we waited, my spouse had noticed a pasta entree (and a salad) was put up and was placed on top of a pizza box. He didnt think much of it until we started to realize we had been waiting longer than felt appropriate and noticed it was 3 different colors, like you'd expect for a pasta trio like I had ordered. Eventually the pasta was removed and we gave the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't my food that had been sitting out for at at least 10 minutes and they were just slow. A few minutes later, a waitress brought our entrees and they finally cleared the appetizer plates. I took my first bite and my food was cold. Not it cooled down but was still kinda warm, any food that was exposed to air was physically cold to the touch. My husband tried to flag the waitress down that delivered the food and her and another worker were talking and looking at their register with no awareness of the rest of the room. Given the service thus far, I just got up with the food and walked it over. I explained it was cold to the point where I said she could touch it (I proceeded to touch a noodle) and it's obviously too cold to be served. She apologized and said she talk the the cook/chef. My spouse watched as she went with my cold plate to the open kitchen and it was clear that she explained I said it was cold but they were not planning on remaking it and just reheating it. A trio of pastas with 3 different sauces would not be reheated in a pan so the assumption is there would be a microwave involved. My spouse got up and approached the cook and waitress that reheating the pasta was unacceptable because if we wanted reheated pasta, we could get something from a freezer section grocery store. At this point the waitress seemed shocked that we'd say anything about them choosing to just reheat the food. After a few more remarks they finally said that they'd remake my food. But that'd mean I had to wait while my spouse ate or my husband would wait and then their food was cold when we eat together. At this point, the service was so bad and they made it fell like we were inconveniencing them by wanting at least warm food, my spouse said we just wanted to settle up and leave. Again it took them a minute to process that we didn't want to stay there anymore and eventually said we could just leave. We left and have no plans on returning. I would consider trying a different location since it's a chain, but I will not be back to the Walnut Creek location. I give Tomatina a very generous 2 stars for the service at the very start of the night and the flavor of the meatballs.

Our group of 3 sat outside in their lovely side alleyway and feasted on 6 delicious shared small plates plus their scrumptious dessert sampler. This was plenty of food for all of us, although I might have been able to force down one more small plate since everything was so delectable. We ordered: -- Cacio e pepe biscuit -- Esquites (Mexican street corn) -- Empanadas -- Tacos al pastor -- Ceviche tostadas -- Alaskan black cod The black cod dish was seriously incredible and a standout amid the other wonderful dishes. The waiter mentioned it had been on their menu for 22 years and that people traveled there to try it. I can believe it! Speaking of service, it was exceptional. Along with our friendly main waiter, there were other staff refilling water glasses and changing table settings quickly as needed. We waited on nothing but also never felt interrupted. Since Va da Vi IS a wine bar, I should mention that wine was also wonderful. I tried their Pinot Noir flight and enjoyed all 3 of the 3 oz samplings, especially the 2023 Status Quo and the 2023 "Klee" by Roots Wine Co. Is it pricey? Well, a little, but not for the quality. I've eaten at places just as expensive and left far less satisfied. I can see the bill adding up quickly for a group who wants a huge meal, but if you're into just sipping and nibbling on amazing food and wine, come!

Menu items are on the high side, so be prepared to shell out some dough. We had a nice waiter, pleasant, cheerful, and very accommodating. I would give the waiter a rating between 4 and 5 stars. It was near closing time when we got there, but we didn't feel rushed to order or eat our dinner so that they could clean up and close the restaurant and head on home. We started with an appetizer and garlic bread (see picture). We had about six pieces of bread and as you can see in the picture, it was on the burnt side. I cannot believe that for the price you pay for a bread, they would serve this. I also ordered a black coffee, but it tasted like it had been sitting there since the morning and tasted really nasty. I asked to have a hot tea instead. Food was good. We ordered spaghetti, carbonara, some chicken dish, and a grilled salmon. All the food tasted delicious and we cleaned out the carbonara and spaghetti. After we ate our dinner, they gave my son-in-law a slice of tiramisu with a lighted candle. Overall, it was a pleasant evening and we enjoyed our food (except for the garlic bread). I'd like to see them do me good and give me a nice garlic bread the next time I eat here.
