If I could be honest with y'all, there's only two words that could describe this Philz location in the hills of Oakland: mixed thoughts. This Philz Coffee is very much a vibe, and they make the best drinks, but its customer service is very questionable to say otherwise. While I've had good experiences here before in terms of guest interaction, there are times where I don't feel welcome (despite their poster saying that everyone is treated equal in the establishment). The recent time that I went to order a tiramisu latte from this location, I was met with glares from not only the customers, but also from the staff as well. I was told to wait in line when there was clearly nothing big going on (no long lines, no online delivery orders constantly popping off on the receipt dash). Mind you, I had to wait 10 minutes to ORDER a cup of coffee -- and I was the only person standing in line, while the baristas were chatting it up while making it coffee. Please make it make sense. The tiramisu latte that was made was honestly questionable -- while I had asked for oat milk, they put whole milk in there instead. The details really matter a lot to me, and I had wished they heeded my preference over just making a drink. There was a lot of attitude thrown at not just me, but with other customers alike who were after me as well. The people taking orders were very not nice and unprofessional, and it didn't really align with what I had in mind. Thinking about the future, I am questioning whether or not I will come to this location again for my coffee.

Philz Coffee has finally come home so to speak! What began with one small location in the Mission District of San Francisco that has now expanded to multiple locations through the state of California and even all the way out to the metropolitan Chicago area, Philz Coffee has provided uniquely crafted coffee drinks including their signature iced drinks for almost twenty-five years. With their second location in Oakland, this time in the Lakeshore neighborhood along Lakeshore Avenue, which replaced a long standing Starbucks Coffee, Philz and their father and son ownership Phil and Jacob have put down roots in the city where they now roast and distribute their highly prized beans. With this newest location in the East Bay, the neighborhood seems revitalized with more people walking to and from their new storefront to various nearby points in between. What brought me and a friend here was the fact that I had a quick appointment in the neighborhood for my car nearby and while it was being serviced, we decided to walk down Lakeshore Avenue to check out Philz Coffee's newest location. With a freshly painted exterior and warm interior with soft lighting and the same elongated counter that once greeted Starbucks customers for so many decades, this Philz has a little less natural light that other locations, but makes up for it with the generous amount of comfortable seating both inside and outside of their storefront. They weren't too busy with customers in line when my friend and I arrived, as many people were sitting on their phones and laptops, so ordering was quick and service by their large workforce was fairly easy. What I like about Philz Coffee, is that their menu is so accessible with a number of seasonal drinks on their menu, in addition to their traditional favorites such as their Iced Mint Mojito and Cold Brew. What intrigued me on their menu this visit, was their New & Caramely drinks on their menu, and of those two drinks being offered, their Caramel Cardamom Karma, of which is served both hot and iced. I ordered a medium size drink which came with cold brew, caramel, cardamom oat milk and salt. My friend ordered a medium size of their Iced Coffee Rosé, which was topped with creamy rose cream. It wouldn't take too long for our drink order to be called for pickup, and both drinks were lushly handcrafted and super sippable as we sat in two of their comfy chairs with an end table waiting for our other errand to be accomplished. The key here with iced drinks in warm weather is to request your beverages be with "light ice" as they usually fill it up to the brim with ice which in turn gives you less beverage. Our total bill was $13.50 before gratuity is added in which is on the higher side, but well worth the price tag thanks to these two lovely beverages. Now that we've been to their Oakland location, I just can't wait to try out their other new locations in the East Bay. With their customized coffee blends, made from sustainably sourced green beans sourced globally, and roasted right there in Oakland, Philz Coffee goal of making a really good cup of coffee has not only been achieved but surpassed all expectations of what is possible when goals are achieved!

Hadn't been to Philz in ages and had a few staple teas that I enjoyed primarily the Istanbul Treat. Decided to stop in the Lakeshore location as it sides to be a Starbucks. There is plenty of seating tables available should one choose to get some work done. The tea selection has been greatly diminished but the Fresh Chai was still available so I gave it a try. They no longer offer whole milk so I opted for the crème and honey for sweetener. So back to the Fresh Chai, the caffeine kick was still there and mixed to my liking. It was good to try again but I think my tea preferences are more matcha based.

This is one of my favorite coffee shops to visit when I'm in the bay, hands down. I love the drinks here, as well as the energy. I've almost never had a grumpy or rude employee here. The mint mojito is the classic drink they're known for, and it's killer every time. This previous visit I tried the oatmeal cookie cold brew, as well as the holiday winter bliss cold brew. Both were great. One of my absolute favorite things about this coffee shop is that you can change your milk, sweetness level, and coffee blend. This allows your coffee to be perfectly you no matter what you're craving.

A nice new spot but it seems like they are still ironing out the kinks with service and training. There were no orders ahead of me and it took about 15 minutes to get my order, there were multiple baristas around so not sure where the delay came from

Ok so I've never been to a Phil's, but they opened a location near me so I couldn't wait to check it out! They're totally different from the coffee shops in the area. After you order, they scoop fresh coffee beans, grind it, and do a pour over just for your cup. They do way more than just charge you $5 and pour you coffee that was brewed over an hour ago, so I think it's more than worth it. Can't wait to come back!

The moment you walk into the shop, you'll notice the current flavor offerings displayed on colorful ice cream-shaped signs across the wall to the right. I could spend an eternity studying each flavor, but there's limited space to queue indoors so really gotta decide on a flavor and serving style fast in order to keep the line moving. Among the flavors were some classics, fruity/floral mixes, and dessert-inspired ones too, a whole range so there's something for everyone. I got the Breakfast Brownie and it was unforgettable! It tasted creamy and delightful without being overwhelming, while the cornflakes mixed inside added a satisfying crunch to each bite. I came back a second time before a show at Crybaby, a smaller venue across the street. Grabbing a scoop here to-go has naturally become part of my pre-concert routine at this point and I plan to come back again next time to explore more flavors. If you're ever heading to a show nearby, I'd definitely recommend stopping by beforehand for a lil energy boost and treat.

Also, whoever they have making their flavors is super creative! They list out all the flavors on the wall on super cute little ice cream scoop cut outs for you to browse while you wait in line. It is definitely more of a takeout ice cream spot with not a ton of seating so you either gotta get lucky with seating, wait for a spot, or take it to go. We got the pandan strawberry and the milk & cookies + cream. Next time I stop by I really want to try out their sundae!

A few years ago, there was definitely a dip in communication when I was trying to order a birthday cake, but since then, I've had the pleasure of enjoying Gregory's treats many times. His cheesecake is truly unlike any I've ever had. The chocolate brownies and chocolate chip cookies are so good, they'll make you feel like you're not even on planet Earth! Seriously, they're that delicious. And the chocolate cake? It tastes like it was baked by a sweet Southern grandmother. It literally melts in your mouth. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that every time I go, I buy all four items and happily eat them over the next few days! Hands down, Gregory's is the BEST BAKERY IN OAKLAND. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out!

I've heard many things about Gregory's Gourmet Desserts but tried it today for the first time…read more Parking was a challenge, with the location being nestled within downtown, closer to Lake Merritt. I was surprised that no one spoke of business specifics in their reviews. There is a limit to how many can come in; and you are not allowed to touch anything when inside. There are also no prices listed anywhere. We thought this was odd. Our order: * Personal Peach Cobbler * Walnut Brownie * Banana Pudding For these 3 items, our total was over $25. The service was friendly but a bit awkward. You are only able to see cases of dessert options, it is more of a pick-up point, not so much a bakery location you can browse. I wouldn't suggest coming as a large group, there is no where to sit to enjoy your baked goods and parking is very difficult. While the cobbler and banana pudding were good, I wasn't a fan of the brownie. My partner enjoyed the cobbler a lot, but when we did the calculations, the prices were astronomical. I'm not sure what gourmet difference the items contained, but we likely would not come back to this bakery considering prices and parking. The location is cute, in theory, but with no actual location or displays, or price lists- what you pay for doesn't balance out. The lack of transparency for prices was very sus to us. I'm sure the business will continue on especially with how much they charged. I can't imagine the bakery location and building rent costing a lot as far as operating costs; as it is small, and not expansive at all. The price of the baked goods doesn't even go towards branded packaging. Which could be understandable. The only beverages available that I seen was Nesquik. Steep prices with no justification - especially when you have other bakeries in the area, in addition to Nation's for Pies, very affordable and classic as well. E&J's has a great banana pudding and cobbler as well for $6- they are also a Black-owned business and family operated. Absolutely no bad intent, just wanting to share transparency in my review so Yelpers know that prices are not listed, which means they are subject to fluctuation- in this economy that is not a fair way of doing business. One star per item we liked, for this review. As much signage is visible upon entry regarding rules and limited persons for entry at a time- not one area provided prices; only signs that tell you not to touch. It's required by law for prices at every establishment to be listed, according to SB 478 for general consumer goods and services in California.

Overall, it's been a good experience every time. Parking can be challenging depending on the time of day. Most of the parking is on the street, so you'll need to keep an eye out for pedestrians and bicyclists while looking for a spot. That's probably the biggest inconvenience of visiting this place. There is usually a 15 to 20-minute wait whenever we come for dessert, but we've always been seated within the quoted wait time, which we appreciate. The restaurant itself is fairly small, so the dining area can feel crowded. Tables are very close together, and you're practically sitting back-to-back with other guests. Because of this, the noise level can get pretty high, and it's easy to overhear conversations from nearby tables. The desserts are the highlight here. The BingSu is excellent, and the lava cake is one of our favorites. The menu is accessed through a QR code, making ordering simple and convenient. Food portions are decent, although prices are definitely on the premium side. Service is efficient, and the food and desserts usually arrive pretty quickly. We used to go to their city location regularly, but over the years we've found ourselves visiting this location more often because the area feels more comfortable and convenient for us. That has made this our go-to spot whenever we're craving dessert. Overall, this is a great place for dessert. The quality of the desserts keeps us coming back, but the difficult parking situation and cramped seating prevent it from being a full 5-star experience. Would definitely return for the BingSu and lava cake.
