    Nitro cold brew.
    Rick M.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Finally had a chance to drop by this West Oakland location of Proyecto Diaz Coffee, and what a great space and spot to enjoy a craft coffee.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This shop is tucked into a side street in the very industrial section of Mandela Parkway, and you'd miss it if you didn't know where to look. It's in a store front on the side of Pacific Pipe climbing gym.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If your lost, just follow the trail of gym rats heading for a pre- or post-climb buzz. The shop has a small but super carefully curated menu that spotlights Mexican grown estate coffee, a lot of not most being single-origin. You will probably find a roast to your taste as well as some really creative concoction, hot or cold. I went with the nitro cold brew which was perfect for an 83°F afternoon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space inside is clean and welcoming with lots of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are also sunny tables outside as well as shady seating in the breezeway in front of the rock gym.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While I didn't grab anything to eat, there are some pastries and empanadas on the menu. I did grab a bag of beans to take home. Service is friendly and efficient. Definitely adding Proyecto Diaz Coffee as a stop on future transits through West Oakland.

Mazapan Latte with Oat and a Quad shot

This is my favorite coffee shop of all time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the wonderful humans that work here and the design inside is neat and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a great place to come and hang out with your dog outside and read while enjoying your coffee and the good energy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have the best drinks and I mean the BEST. Their coffee is unmatched and unlike most places their matcha and coffee are equally amazing. I love that they make their own syrups and you simply cannot find drink like theirs anywhere else. I basically live here and I wouldn't have it any other way.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Spacious and open seating with a beautiful interior and exterior![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Found parking quick and smooth ordering, I got the horchata latte which I was initially anticipating some sort of horchata syrup, per other coffee shop experience, but enjoyed it still as a regular horchata with espresso on top. My friend got the mazapan latte with oat milk, I think that one is a more sweeter and creamier compared to the rice milk of horchata, so up to personal preference.

Still going strong! Proyecto is on the rotation at least once a week and not because we just love their delicious and creative drinks but because the staff is extremely friendly.

    Tamales!

This is one of West Oakland's favorites, and to be fair, is quite hidden from the naked eye -- unless you decide to explore the area in more detail. This coffee shop is honestly unique in its own way -- the Western kick of coffee meets the Mexican style of pan, tamales, and more. Upon going there many times, i find that they have a wide variety of things that none other coffee shop can do better: horchata lattes. To my surprise they're honestly one of the best in the area. They source their coffee beans locally from Oakland and Hayward, and their syrups are made from scratch. In addition, they get their tamales from a local tamal factory in Hayward -- which tastes authentic and of region. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They also give really good hospitality, and the design of the coffee shop is very modern and chique.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I will say the down side of this coffee shop is that they have limited seating inside, and the outside seating is usually pretty cold, so some people just take their food & drinks to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Otherwise, I'd recommend this place forsure!

Cafe is right next to Pac Pipe. Perfect place to get that caffeine fix before climbing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute interior with seating inside and outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Free parking available in front but can get busy later in the day. Staff is super friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restrooms with code on the side.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had the cappuccino which was the perfect balance of milk and espresso.

So the sauce IS called salsa macha, and I finally got a pic of the ever so delicious tamale. I arrived kind of late today but was able to order. Today I tried their seasonal drink, the iced calabaza latte - you can order it hot. Pumpkin and cinnamon are some of the flavors listed for the drink. This was the creamiest drink I've ever had. I'll be sad when this drink goes away.

Love this hidden oasis tucked in into West Oakland. Easily accessible and they had good places to park. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was greeted by the barista and a very bright interior that almost felt out of place in the warehouse setting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was tons of space on the inside and outside to enjoy your coffee and telework.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was a big fan of the iced mocha, which was not too sweet or bitter. I was surprised that they used real chocolate bits and not a syrup like usual. I'll be back here soon to try more of their specialty drinks and also Mexican pastries, which looked amazing!

    Espresso (Decaf)
    Felix W.

I got espresso. Tried the single origin and the decaf blend of the day both were very well executed. The light roast good layers and smooth texture. I tasted notes of fruit and mild citrus. 5/5 The decaf had a bit more body with creamy texture. I tasted dark chocolate with mild acidity. 4/5. This was my second visit and I'll definitely be back.

I was beyond impressed with the Cappuccino here. Thick and silky smooth foam. And it is conveniently located to one of my favorite climbing gyms in the Bay Area: Pacific Pipe. The service was above par, and the coffee at the base was delicious. Even though it's in Oakland, and I am in SJ, I picked up their punch card because I will definitely be back.

    Nopal y pineapple agua fresca
    Sydney J.

I saw Proyecto Diaz's stall at the West Oakland / Prescott night market and since I didn't want to get caffeine that late in the evening, I decided to try their nopal y pineapple agua fresca. The cactus makes it taste more vegetably overall. I wish I could taste the pineapple better, but it's good if you don't like your agua fresca super sweet. It has a spicy tang around the rim.

The shop is located on a side street and is pretty big inside, with plenty of space to sit and enjoy a coffee. I came in early, before any rush, and took my time perusing the menu and picking out a drink. I ended up getting the mazapan latte and the pan de elote. The latte was amazing with bit of the candy, and the pan de elote was deliciously custardy. Would highly recommend and will definitely make my way back here soon. Also, the guys working were really nice and happy to answer any and all questions!

We had a spontaneous trip to this coffee shop and I do not regret it. I got the mocha and the concha cause it was cute. The mocha wasn't overly sweet, the concha wasn't dry and the tamal de elote?? Yeah, I took one of those to go. Recommend the tamal de rajas too. The line got long a couple of times and they served everyone quickly. I will for sure be back.

I pedaled my bike over there this Wednesday morning, aiming to secure a proper breakfast that would actually carry me past 11 a.m. The shop is cozy, definitely on the smaller side with a few seats inside, giving it that familiar, neighborhood spot feel. It's not a sprawling, antiseptic café, and I appreciate that. I ordered the Laney Breakfast Sandwich, which features egg, fresh spinach, sliced turkey, and Swiss cheese on a toasted English muffin. What impressed me was the intentionality--this wasn't something sitting under a heat lamp, looking defeated. It was clearly made to order. The egg was seasoned right, the turkey wasn't flimsy, and the spinach added that necessary fresh bite. It was a damn good sandwich, simple as that. I paired that with the Berry Lovers Smoothie. The original recipe calls for banana, but I asked if they could swap that out for mango. My people know that mango adds a different kind of sunshine, and they executed the substitution flawlessly. It came out thick, perfectly blended--a rich mix of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and that mango kick. It was super refreshing and didn't taste like I was drinking melted ice. The service was quick and friendly, which is key on a weekday morning. Everything tasted clean, fresh, and intentionally prepared. If you're looking for high-quality breakfast fare that feels less commercial and more like something someone actually cares about, stop by. The short bike ride and the intimate seating are worth it for what comes out of that kitchen. They earned this review.

Later on, they sold dried fruits also. Eventually they sold hot foods like popcorn chicken, curry fish balls and different boba drinks. They have seatings as well. Their boba drinks had became so popular that they opened locations in Berkeley, San Francisco and Milpitas. I love their bobas, it's sweet, bouncy and great chewing texture. They used to have small tapioca options which I had loved, but it isn't an option anymore. All their drinks are pretty good so you can't be wrong what drinks you choose. I highly recommend their drinks and their popcorn chicken. I will definitely come back and try other drinks as well.

The milk tea quality honestly was ok. I am not sure why I tasted a hint of thai tea lol but I did not mind. The boba quality was great. Perfect texture and I love how chewy it is. Plus they gave a good boba proportion! The popcorn chicken was not spicy enough for me so I used the powder they had near the seating area. I think they try to not make it too spicy because a lot of families and kiddos order it so they probably don't want to make it very spicy. You can sit here too as you wait or as you eat. Staff are typical - not overly friendly but not cold. They are ready to work and hustle! Many childhood memories associated with this place. It has remained a place I will always come back to.

Our orders were taken and we sat down to wait. There were a TON OF FLIES buzzing around and I kept having to wave them off especially when we got our order to the table, which honestly was gross. We were called to pick up our order, but only 1 of the 4 items was ready: Zadie's Masterpiece Breakfast Sando - Really tasty and enjoyed the biscuit it was on. Skimpy on the bacon, there was ONE piece but overall good breakfast sandwich. Next item ready 5 minutes later: Khadija's Slow Burn Harissa Hot Honey Breakfast Burrito - Really tasty. Definitely flavor packed and would order this again. *BUT there was an issue. Apparently the person that ordered before us asked for the same burrito to go...they NEVER got it and yet our order was ready. The person was pretty cool about it but they were definitely annoyed and gave us a look although it wasn't our fault. *The ordering system seems unorganized with the cashier writing orders on a slip of receipt paper and putting them on a stand by the kitchen. I wonder if the slips were out of order or fell and they skipped this persons to go order? IDK but they need a better system! We tried waiting for our coffees before starting to eat but then our food started getting cold...YOU KNOW WHY?... because the poor person that was taking orders was also in charge of making drinks. Having one person as cashier and barrista is NOT a good idea on a busy Saturday morning. It was hard for them to take a moment and focus on the drinks becuase people kept coming in an placing orders which means we waited for 20+ minutes before getting our drinks. By then our food was mostly eaten! Thankfully we noticed they had a water pitcher for free water which was a saving grace! The wait for drinks was so long that people that were already sitting when we arrived and had already eaten their food were JUST getting their drinks before us. HORRIBLE! I felt really bad for the cashier/barista :( Another turn off, there is no understanding on what to do with dirty dishes. Do we bus our table? If so where do we put it? We noticed people leaving plates by the water pitcher and cups, some put them on the long counter by the coffee area. There wasn't a garbage or compost bin, so we weren't sure where to put food scraps. There was a bin for "Plastic Only" but only the cup lids were plastic and the cup itself was paper, so where TF do you put that? We noticed a black plastic bin that someone had brought out from the back, so we placed our stuff in there but wasn't exactly sure. We tried to ask the cashier/barista but they were slammed with customers so we ccouldn't get their attention. IDK the place is just poorly organized and messy! There are tables for people to make artwork which is nice but on a busy Saturday it might have been nice to clean those areas up to allow people to sit. Sorry guys... *You need a dedicated barista! People waiting 20+ minutes for drinks is insane especially when the food comes out relatively fast. *Please clean up your restaurant. The amount of flies was gross and no one wants to swat them away from food & drinks. *Tell people if they should bus their own tables and if so.... *Make it clear where to leave plates, cups, garbage, compost etc.
