I must admit that I'm very late to the smash burger trend! After a day of kids' birthday parties and lots of sweets, I fancied a burger. My husband was agreeable for once, so we took the kid to Lana's (it's one of her friends' names, haha). The location in Old Oakland is fine at the weekend. It might be difficult to find parking during the week, though. We basically parked right outside. We ordered three burgers and some fries, and just had water from the cute water station. I was honestly really impressed with the burger! I got the classic double and it reminded me of what's on a McDonald's burger but obviously 100000% better. I loved the crispness from the smash burger it was delicious and the prices weren't too bad. We also got the okie sauce but to us it didn't really have much flavor. My partner found this location after we swam in the area. We arrived and both the exterior and interior are quite aesthetically pleasing, sleek and very clean. The color palette is so nice. We got two smashburgers and fries fried in tallow and the smashburgers were satisfying but not as flavorful as other smashburger places. Wow. Their smash burgers and fries are GOOD! I ordered the old town western (and tried some of the okie onion, which was also great) and split a side of hot fries. My burger came with patties that were both caramelized and juicy, crispy fried onion, two strips of bacon, american cheese, and house bbq sauce. This was definitely a "cheat meal" type of burger with how heavy the ingredients are, but dang, was this delicious. The fries had cajun seasoning on them and were excellent too! Super disappointed :( I've been craving the cookies from here for quite some time, I haven't stopped thinking about them since the last time I've had them over 2 years ago. Came here after dinner & shopping for a sweet treat. The ice cream flavors are unique but so unique you question what you'd actually like. The gentleman who helped us immediately greeted us with a warm hello when we walked in and let us know we had the option of sampling any of the flavors. We tried the Vietnamese coffee flavor and the black sesame. They were so creamy and delicious we opted for those. Turns out they make the ice cream in house. No wonder it was so good! I've been coming here for over 2 years and the food is always very delicious and the ice cream flavors change often. The past few months we've been having an issue with our order almost everytime we come. It's either they add sauce onto the burger when we tell them no sauce, they forget a fry or give us the wrong type of burger. We've never had this problem coming here until recently. This burger joint gives the perfect old school vibe. It is so cute and retro and the decorations make you feel like you're in a different time period. I came on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy. There was a good amount of people waiting for food and others were getting ice cream. It was about a 15-minute wait for a deluxe burger, okie onion smash, and hot tots. The burgers were great! They were juicy and cooked to perfection. Pairing it with ketchup and ranch gives it extra flavor. The hot tots are seasoned with different spices and they were a little over seasoned to me. The flavors seem to always be rotating and I love seeing Asian influenced flavors! The staff were very friendly when taking my order. On another note, this is far from being a nice neighborhood. The more unpleasant characters of Oakland will always find their way here. This may not be the best spot for families and the faint of heart. Used to frequent Lana's (before it rebranded it was CookieBar Creamery) back in the COVID-19 times and always thought they had some of the better ice cream flavor ideas and execution than other spots in Oakland. Before they even started offering burgers and fries, some of our favorite flavors were their black sesame, viet coffee (probably the best version I have had), and matcha. Their milkshakes were also really good especially if you liked them on the thicker side. When they rebranded as Lana's, we also wanted to go and try the burgers and fries. We have had their regular and curly fries when they started offering it prior to the rebrand and remember them being really nice and crisp with a good pepper seasoning on the outside. So when we went post-rebrand, we ended up opting to try their tots instead. We got their classic double smash burger and regular tots. After trying it, all I have to say is that this smash burger is on par with some of the best you can get in the Bay Area. Lovely's and Beep's Burgers have been my S-Tier in the Bay but Lana's definitely deserves to be in that conversation. I generally think of a good smash burger as giving you that type of feeling of eating a McDonald's hamburger - if it was good and made fresh. It should be the pinnacle of nostalgic American eats and the juiciness, crispy edges, and beefiness of the meat at Lana's definitely evokes some of that feeling. The fries and tots pair really well, even if they aren't the very best I have had. They are crispy and seasoned incredibly well. I know that online it seems like some people tend to think of Lana's as overrated but I think that can't be farther from the truth because it is one of the best burgers I have had here over the years and deserves to be put on that pedestal. read more

Cool little spot I stopped in to grab some ice cream on a weeknight. The place was open late and worked out perfectly. I was drawn in by the banana Oreo flavor which was a first for me and I have to say it was super tasty. Ice cream was firm but creamy and definitely had a well pronounced banana flavor. When we ordered there weren't many people in but as we were waiting a group of 20 kids in an afternoon camp came in and shortly after another 10 people for a midday rush. We went on 3/17 around 3 pm. It was between this and another joint when my partner and I decided to DoorDash a burger on a rainy day. Y'all Yelpers convinced me -- this was a damn good burger. Even takeout and a bit of sitting didn't make the burger taste any worse. The two smash patties were buttery and the sweet bun made it even better. I added grilled onions which didn't disappoint (will it ever?) Really bummed that we ordered their house made ranch and our order showed up without it, but we're coming back to try it. I finally got to try them!!!!!! Let me just say this, get the Lemonade Blueberry ice cream with a sugar cone!!!!! It was a hit!!!! That was the best ice cream flavor I had in my life- not sure if they make this flavor their self or what. I did speak to some other customers who stated they come once a week for a pint of this flavor!!! Parking is not the greatest, they have parking in front of their business but there are other local businesses - so the parking spots can be taken up. The inside was very cutesy, the lighting was so perfect, I wondered what kind of lighting mounts they use. I would love to just take a million pics in there. Everyone was super nice, staff was accommodating- since it was my first time. Only thing was, I ordered a smash burger and ice cream.... I got the double size up to 3 flavors in a cup for $8.xx and a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was aright, nothing special. The ice cream was good and creamy. I sampled their salted caramel ice cream and found it off-tasting, and went with a vanilla flavor with a variety of toased in chunks of textured pretzels, chocolate bits or butterscotch that was enjoyably lighter than expected and also not too cloyingly sweet. Wow where has this place been. Was craving a smash burger and turned to good old Yelp for assistance. Since its roughly a 10 minute walk, we decided to take a stroll down the hood to get there.
