My friends surprised my fiancé and me with a birthday trip here to finally try the crepe cake because I've been wanting it forever, and it was such a fun experience. We all got the Thai tea crepe cake and it was so good. Definitely lived up to the hype. I also got the Thai tea, which was really good too. What made it even better was that one of my friends had secretly asked the staff if they could just bring our slices out with birthday candles, but they ended up going all out. They had the staff singing and played birthday music through the speakers. It was hilarious, unexpected, and honestly really sweet. It's a little pricey, but worth it for both the quality and the experience. There's plenty of indoor seating, the whole place has a really cool vibe inside, and we had such a great time. One of my go-to late night dessert spots in Berkeley. I really like coming here with friends when we want something sweet after dinner because the portions are pretty big and perfect for sharing. Their bingsu is honestly one of my favorites here it's shaved ice and it's super fluffy and creamy without feeling overly heavy. The presentation is also really cute and the desserts always come out looking so good. The service was fine overall The only thing I wasn't the biggest fan of was the Thai tea lava toast. The flavor and sauce were good, but the toast itself was a little on the drier side and I wish it tasted a bit fresher. My friends and I returned to U:Dessert Story after a couple of years since our last visit, and this time around somehow topped our last experience. We arrived late after dinner, but the cafe was still packed around 8 PM. We were fortunately able to be seated right away. We were celebrating a birthday, so we ordered a few different desserts to try - mango sticky rice bingsu, Japanese yuzu cheesecake, and chocolate truffle cake - with a couple of sparklers to mark the occasion. Minutes after we had placed our order, the server brought out our treats with much fanfare and a celebratory birthday song - and the whole restaurant joined in the singing and clapping. I've tried the mango sticky rice bingsu before - it was as tasty and refreshing as I remembered it. While decadent, the yuzu cheesecake was pleasantly tart and refreshing and paired well with the matcha ice cream. I tried a bite of the chocolate truffle cake - it was super decadent. The cafe continued to stay packed throughout the evening - the line even stretched out the door as we were leaving. I'm sure we'll be back to celebrate the next birthday soon. read more

Visited around 7pm on a Sunday evening. There's only street parking so I had to circle the block a few times to find a spot. Unfortunately that's pretty normal in Berkeley but if you're on foot, the location is pretty great! Once inside, we were quickly given a table and ordered through the QR code. There was a good variety of Asian inspired crepe cakes, bingsu options, and drinks! I was torn between ordering a dessert or a drink and opted for the Matcha chocolate lava cake ($16) since I wasn't planning on consuming everything and wasn't sure whether a drink could be packed to go. The atmosphere was pretty relaxing. A lot of tables were filled and the decor was welcoming. There seemed to be a lot of people doing pick up orders as well. It took about 15-20 minutes for my dessert to arrive which felt a bit long but it wasn't a huge issue. The presentation of the food was lovely and I was happy that the taste was great as well. Cutting into the cake released a surprise stream of both molten chocolate and matcha. I had thought it would only be chocolate and the addition of the matcha cut through the sweetness of the molten chocolate. The matcha taste was not gritty or bitter. The cake was warm, moist, and not overly sweet. I liked the inclusion of the strawberries as a palette cleanser. The only drawback is that the matcha ice cream itself was just sweet and lacked any matcha flavor. Overall, I would return! The food options are enticing and the atmosphere was great. We were there for about an hour and we never felt pressured to hurry up and leave. Many of the surrounding tables were there for a while as well. It's a great place to catch up with friends while enjoying a bite after dinner. I hope to try the Oolong Lychee float in the future. read more

I think, in the future, we will just split one snow between two people. Ordering one a pop was also quite pricy. Two snows and two fancy drinks ran up a relatively high bill for a desert order; I definitely consider this place ti be on the pricier side. But that what you get with good location and ambiance. So, I guess didn't really have any expectations other than to just have a sweet treat. We were pleasantly surprised. You order from a QR code, but pay with the server. Only 1 server during our visit, and very busy. I know we're in the Bay Area, but these prices at U:Dessert Story are very high. Looking at the menu, I was just wondering how they're justifying these prices. Now, that said, the quality and how these desserts were crafted are very good. Thought can sense that (from the two we ordered), there was thought put into the dishes to make them work. The ingredients felt like they were well sourced, and what we ordered were very tasty. And as to the two we ordered, one was worth its price (barely), the other probably not. We ordered the Strawberry Bingsoo. I've had many bingsoos before, most were just okay. This one took me on another level of bingsoo that I haven't experienced. This was simply that good. The shaved ice could have been finer, but I think if it was, the toppings wouldn't have held up as well. Hints of yogurt and almond really makes this dish. The strawberry bingsoo, at $16, it was just worth its price. We also ordered the Oreo croffle. Well made. Ingredients came together with the toppings. I LOVE THIS PLACE. I always go here with my friends and family for dessert. The tables are spaced out and it is always busy. However, seating is fast. Service is so good, they constantly check on you no matter how busy it is. I love the decor and it is a great place for a little girls day or even a date! The sulbings are fine because it's hard to mess up ice and syrup with toppings, but the remainder of the menu, for example these crepe cakes, are of horrible quality at top prices. I brought my FIL here one late afternoon as he was craving bingsu since I first introduced it to him during a trip to Taiwan (ironic being that Taiwan was his first introduction to this delicious dessert rather than Korea where he had visited before). There was only 1 other occupied table when we arrived, so we had our pick of seating options. They have a decent amount of seating inside the premise, as well as a few outdoor tables also. We opted for the Mango Sticky Rice Bingsu. The size portion was huge, so we were able to share amongst the 3 of us. Comes with a side of condensed milk, mango puree, and green sticky rice. The bingsu had a generous amount of thick, fresh mango inside. And the snow ice was very fine, smooth, and melts in your mouth. The addition of the sticky green rice was a nice touch. As it added a complimentary warmness that paired well with the cold bingsu. The prices here for everything are on the high end. But given the large portion sizes, not too bad if you average it out amongst a party. read more

The food was awesome! We were really happy that they also had some savory items to go with their extensive dessert menu. Ordering was simple, via a QR code that brought you to site to order from. While we placed our order online the service was very friendly and helpful. Since we ordered both sweet and savory they checked to see if we wanted e returning at once or not. The appetizer plate was the perfect size for 4 of us. Enough for everyone to get some but left us room for our desserts. The fries were particularly addicting. The strawberry smoothie was tasty but not too unique. The matcha cheesecake was really light and had a good matcha flavor. It paired really well with the matcha ice cream. The strawberry croffle was really good. A nice crunch even with the cream on top. The pandas sauce was really good. We had to take the left over sauce home. Only 4 stars because it's really pricey. We entered the restaurant to dark, moody lighting and cramped-yet-cozy tables. We were seated promptly by staff. We ordered the Double Fromage Honey Yuzu Cheesecake and the Hojicha Banoffee. Double Fromage Honey Yuzu Cheesecake: good, but personally not my taste. really yuzu heavy, rich cheesecake, but I wish it was more honey forward. I didn't taste any honey flavor in my slice. I like that the cheesecake has divots in the top for the yuzu sauce to sit in. The sauce is in a little plastic dropper stabbed into the cheesecake top, and you can take squirt it to your liking onto the cheesecake. 3.5/5 Hojicha Banoffee: liked this better than my cheesecake! the nutty, roasted hojicha cream complimented the almond, caramel, and banana well. still not personally my taste, but several of my foodie friends would definitely love this one. 4/5 I recommend to visit during construction while it's not so busy!! read more

I drove about half an hour to come here, expecting a good dessert spot, but it ended up being a complete letdown. We arrived around 10:15 PM and ordered shortly after. My friend ordered on his phone and got his dessert, but never received his drink. I placed my order too--and my dessert never came at all. To make things worse, people who arrived after us were getting their orders before we did. We kept waiting, thinking maybe it was just delayed, but by 11:00 PM, still nothing showed up. I even spoke to the server and explained the situation clearly--that we were missing a drink and my dessert never came. They just smiled, didn't fix anything, and walked away. That honestly made the situation even more frustrating. When we finally got the check, they actually tried to charge us for the missing drink and the dessert I never even received. We had to point it out and get it corrected, which shouldn't have been necessary in the first place. At that point, it didn't feel like "U :Dessert Story"... it felt more like "U served us no dessert, just a story." I drove all that way for nothing. Super disappointing experience--long waits, poor service, and zero attention to basic order accuracy. Definitely not worth the trip. read more

4th visit! Whoop whoop! This is the place to get dessert in Berkeley (I may actually be bolder and say the East Bay). Such lovely treats over here that must be discovered. This time we got the mango sticky rice bingsu and the matcha chocolate lava cake. Really great balance between the warm chocolate and matcha and the cold shaved bingsu. Cute date spot. Really nice selection of desserts to choose from, with pretty exotic/Asian flavors. We got the Thai tea lava toast and mango sticky rice bingsu to split between the 3 of us. Definitely have to be okay with sharing food, unless you're soloing a dessert (but that's no fun!) The lava toast is fun since they take a block of bread carve it out and build inside of it. Highly recommend both. One thing to note is the sound environment is a bit noisy, my girlfriend could hear a few conversations from around the cafe even though we were tucked towards the back.
