Cute, spacious and aesthetic venue with the best shaved ice - our favorite is the Volcano Bingsu and Thai Tea Lava Toast! The service is friendly and depending on the time pretty quick too. Another plus is that they're open until 10pm Monday + Tuesday and 12am the rest of the week, perfect for late night munchies! Parking can be a bit tedious, I recommend trying to find a spot in the neighborhood to avoid the meters. It might be a small walk to and from, but gives you time to digest after indulging on dessert. read more

My friends surprised my fiancé and me with a birthday trip here to finally try the crepe cake because I've been wanting it forever, and it was such a fun experience. We all got the Thai tea crepe cake and it was so good. Definitely lived up to the hype. I also got the Thai tea, which was really good too. What made it even better was that one of my friends had secretly asked the staff if they could just bring our slices out with birthday candles, but they ended up going all out. They had the staff singing and played birthday music through the speakers. It was hilarious, unexpected, and honestly really sweet. It's a little pricey, but worth it for both the quality and the experience. There's plenty of indoor seating, the whole place has a really cool vibe inside, and we had such a great time. Definitely will be coming back :) read more

One of my go-to late night dessert spots in Berkeley. I really like coming here with friends when we want something sweet after dinner because the portions are pretty big and perfect for sharing. Their bingsu is honestly one of my favorites here it's shaved ice and it's super fluffy and creamy without feeling overly heavy. The presentation is also really cute and the desserts always come out looking so good. The service was fine overall The only thing I wasn't the biggest fan of was the Thai tea lava toast. The flavor and sauce were good, but the toast itself was a little on the drier side and I wish it tasted a bit fresher. Overall though it's still one of my favorite late night dessert spots in the area. read more

My friends and I returned to U:Dessert Story after a couple of years since our last visit, and this time around somehow topped our last experience. We arrived late after dinner, but the cafe was still packed around 8 PM. We were fortunately able to be seated right away. We were celebrating a birthday, so we ordered a few different desserts to try - mango sticky rice bingsu, Japanese yuzu cheesecake, and chocolate truffle cake - with a couple of sparklers to mark the occasion. Minutes after we had placed our order, the server brought out our treats with much fanfare and a celebratory birthday song - and the whole restaurant joined in the singing and clapping. I've tried the mango sticky rice bingsu before - it was as tasty and refreshing as I remembered it. While decadent, the yuzu cheesecake was pleasantly tart and refreshing and paired well with the matcha ice cream. I tried a bite of the chocolate truffle cake - it was super decadent. The cafe continued to stay packed throughout the evening - the line even stretched out the door as we were leaving. I'm sure we'll be back to celebrate the next birthday soon. read more

My first visit and it was love at first bite. We stopped in toward the end of the day, so the wait was minimal which is always a win. The Mango Sticky Rice Bingsu easily earns top marks. A beautifully layered bowl of Korean snow ice topped with fresh mango, house-made crumble, sticky rice, mango purée, and a drizzle of condensed milk. The textures and flavors come together effortlessly; so light, refreshing, and not overly sweet. Perfect for sharing, though you may not want to. The double fromage lychee cheesecake was pure bliss. Delicate, airy, and luxuriously creamy with a subtle lychee finish that keeps it feeling fresh. It strikes that rare balance of being rich without heaviness. Easily one of the better cheesecakes I've had in a while. Definitely a spot worth returning to. read more

Visited around 7pm on a Sunday evening. There's only street parking so I had to circle the block a few times to find a spot. Unfortunately that's pretty normal in Berkeley but if you're on foot, the location is pretty great! Once inside, we were quickly given a table and ordered through the QR code. There was a good variety of Asian inspired crepe cakes, bingsu options, and drinks! I was torn between ordering a dessert or a drink and opted for the Matcha chocolate lava cake ($16) since I wasn't planning on consuming everything and wasn't sure whether a drink could be packed to go. The atmosphere was pretty relaxing. A lot of tables were filled and the decor was welcoming. There seemed to be a lot of people doing pick up orders as well. It took about 15-20 minutes for my dessert to arrive which felt a bit long but it wasn't a huge issue. The presentation of the food was lovely and I was happy that the taste was great as well. Cutting into the cake released a surprise stream of both molten chocolate and matcha. I had thought it would only be chocolate and the addition of the matcha cut through the sweetness of the molten chocolate. The matcha taste was not gritty or bitter. The cake was warm, moist, and not overly sweet. I liked the inclusion of the strawberries as a palette cleanser. The only drawback is that the matcha ice cream itself was just sweet and lacked any matcha flavor. Overall, I would return! The food options are enticing and the atmosphere was great. We were there for about an hour and we never felt pressured to hurry up and leave. Many of the surrounding tables were there for a while as well. It's a great place to catch up with friends while enjoying a bite after dinner. I hope to try the Oolong Lychee float in the future. read more

I came here for dessert at the end of a date. The music and lighting and ambiance inside created a fun party vibe, which I very much enjoyed. The service was fast and the food was good! Once seated, we ordered through scanning the QR code and using the website portal for our table. I like that method especially when I can order fancy boba-like drinks that need me to specify sweetness level, ice level, any milk substitutes, etc. it's a very convenient way to order. We ordered the Ube and Mango snows, which were big enough for us to share, but we ordered one each because we wanted to be over the top. I think, in the future, we will just split one snow between two people. Ordering one a pop was also quite pricy. Two snows and two fancy drinks ran up a relatively high bill for a desert order; I definitely consider this place ti be on the pricier side. But that what you get with good location and ambiance. I highly recommend the tiramisu latte! It totally tasted and looked like tiramisu. It was a really fun drink. read more

Our dessert story, after having ramen from across the street, was very random. We actually wanted gelato but opted for U:Dessert Story. So, I guess didn't really have any expectations other than to just have a sweet treat. We were pleasantly surprised. You order from a QR code, but pay with the server. Only 1 server during our visit, and very busy. I know we're in the Bay Area, but these prices at U:Dessert Story are very high. Looking at the menu, I was just wondering how they're justifying these prices. Now, that said, the quality and how these desserts were crafted are very good. Thought can sense that (from the two we ordered), there was thought put into the dishes to make them work. The ingredients felt like they were well sourced, and what we ordered were very tasty. And as to the two we ordered, one was worth its price (barely), the other probably not. We ordered the Strawberry Bingsoo. I've had many bingsoos before, most were just okay. This one took me on another level of bingsoo that I haven't experienced. This was simply that good. The shaved ice could have been finer, but I think if it was, the toppings wouldn't have held up as well. Hints of yogurt and almond really makes this dish. The strawberry bingsoo, at $16, it was just worth its price. We also ordered the Oreo croffle. Well made. Ingredients came together with the toppings. Very enjoyable, but at $9 each, this one I didn't feel like was worth the price. Street parking may be tricky. Free on Sundays. read more

I'm so glad we came across U:Dessert in Berkeley. We've been to SF and this one was so much more airy. You scan the QR code menu and place your order. They came out fairly quickly and boy were they worth the wait. My mango sticky rice was light and its size made me think I'd be absolutely full after consuming it all. But it totally didn't. I loved all the extra so I had something with every bite. My hubby said the coffee was strong and robust (he had a latte) The croffle was chewy and crispy, the fruit was sweet and ripe. The cream was nice and sweet. He said it was easy to eat. Would definitely make the trip over the bridge to visit again. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. I always go here with my friends and family for dessert. The tables are spaced out and it is always busy. However, seating is fast. Service is so good, they constantly check on you no matter how busy it is. I love the decor and it is a great place for a little girls day or even a date! This is a cute dessert place. There are lots of choices too, so it was quite hard to narrow it down to two haha. The service was quick and friendly as well. Thai tea ice cream toast cube: 5/5. This was so good omg, never had anything like it before. The toast and toast pieces were warm and buttery, and the ice cream added a nice touch. Black sesame mochi milk tea: 4/5. I like a strong milk tea flavor, and this one hit the spot. However, I found the mochi a little bit overcooked. Overall, this one is pretty good. I brought my FIL here one late afternoon as he was craving bingsu since I first introduced it to him during a trip to Taiwan (ironic being that Taiwan was his first introduction to this delicious dessert rather than Korea where he had visited before). There was only 1 other occupied table when we arrived, so we had our pick of seating options. They have a decent amount of seating inside the premise, as well as a few outdoor tables also. We opted for the Mango Sticky Rice Bingsu. The size portion was huge, so we were able to share amongst the 3 of us. Comes with a side of condensed milk, mango puree, and green sticky rice. The bingsu had a generous amount of thick, fresh mango inside. And the snow ice was very fine, smooth, and melts in your mouth. The addition of the sticky green rice was a nice touch. As it added a complimentary warmness that paired well with the cold bingsu. The prices here for everything are on the high end. But given the large portion sizes, not too bad if you average it out amongst a party. read more

We went as a group and the servers seated us after a little wait. However, she kept coming back to re-arrange us and moving the tables around to accommodate other people coming in AFTER we had already sat down. This wasn't a big issue but each time she just proceeded with moving our tables around without saying anything to us - what the heck? Now onto the desserts. I've been here 3 times and frankly never been impressed whatsoever. I refrained from commenting previously as this seems to be a nostalgic institution that UCB kids frequent. But now that I'm here let me just jot this down - these desserts are not good. The sulbings are fine because it's hard to mess up ice and syrup with toppings, but the remainder of the menu, for example these crepe cakes, are of horrible quality at top prices. Pictured here is the pandan coconut millecrepe cake. The flavor of the cake is extremely artificial. The texture of the glaze was disgusting. Honestly, the experience was so bad that I really thought the people raving about this place were gaslighting. read more

This is the kind of place to take a date who loves dessert or for a personal treat if you have a sweet tooth yourself. It's such an indulgence that I suppose I should limit myself to one visit every few months, but, honestly, life is too short. The flavors are Southeast Asian, and these particular desserts are unique to my experience. We were there for the Young Coconut Pandan Crepe Cake. I saw it on the menu before walking in the door. It's why I chose the place. We are big fans of the pandan coconut waffles at the Hong Kong Snack Shack at Pacific East Mall in Richmond, and this was only the second time I've seen a pandan-flavored dessert anywhere. The crepe cake was even better than I had hoped or imagined. It's totally different from a waffle. These are super-thin layers of crepe with a whipped cream-like filling and a coconut cream sauce to die for. It is chilled, not warm. And believe it or not, it's not too sweet. The second time we shared a slice of the Thai Tea Crepe Cake. It was very delicious, but I prefer the coconut pandan. I don't know if it's because I'm partial to coconut or if it's because the tea flavor was a bit on the mild side. I like to order Thai milk tea with boba at milk tea & boba shops, and I was expecting a stronger tea flavor like I expect with that. It was still yummy, but not as distinctive or boldly flavored as the coconut pandan flavor. They also have all sorts of cheesecakes that I'd like to try. And there's a whole savory menu that we haven't explored either. The space itself is small, packed, and a bit on the loud side (but not uncomfortably loud). Both times they were very busy, but we didn't have to wait to be seated. The servers on both visits were very polite. The only downsides are: 1) there's not a lot of parking in that neighborhood, and 2) it's not inexpensive. Neither is enough to deter me. I see many future visits to my new favorite dessert spot! read more

The food was awesome! We were really happy that they also had some savory items to go with their extensive dessert menu. Ordering was simple, via a QR code that brought you to site to order from. While we placed our order online the service was very friendly and helpful. Since we ordered both sweet and savory they checked to see if we wanted e returning at once or not. The appetizer plate was the perfect size for 4 of us. Enough for everyone to get some but left us room for our desserts. The fries were particularly addicting. The strawberry smoothie was tasty but not too unique. The matcha cheesecake was really light and had a good matcha flavor. It paired really well with the matcha ice cream. The strawberry croffle was really good. A nice crunch even with the cream on top. The pandas sauce was really good. We had to take the left over sauce home. Only 4 stars because it's really pricey. But I guess that's downtown Berkeley for you! We'll be back though when we are in the area, so it's not so pricey where it's unreasonable. read more

Sidewalk is under construction right now, but U:Dessert Story is still open for business! Visited with a friend, and we dined in. We entered the restaurant to dark, moody lighting and cramped-yet-cozy tables. We were seated promptly by staff. We ordered the Double Fromage Honey Yuzu Cheesecake and the Hojicha Banoffee. Double Fromage Honey Yuzu Cheesecake: good, but personally not my taste. really yuzu heavy, rich cheesecake, but I wish it was more honey forward. I didn't taste any honey flavor in my slice. I like that the cheesecake has divots in the top for the yuzu sauce to sit in. The sauce is in a little plastic dropper stabbed into the cheesecake top, and you can take squirt it to your liking onto the cheesecake. 3.5/5 Hojicha Banoffee: liked this better than my cheesecake! the nutty, roasted hojicha cream complimented the almond, caramel, and banana well. still not personally my taste, but several of my foodie friends would definitely love this one. 4/5 I recommend to visit during construction while it's not so busy!! read more

Cute date spot. Really nice selection of desserts to choose from, with pretty exotic/Asian flavors. We got the Thai tea lava toast and mango sticky rice bingsu to split between the 3 of us. Definitely have to be okay with sharing food, unless you're soloing a dessert (but that's no fun!) The lava toast is fun since they take a block of bread carve it out and build inside of it. Highly recommend both. One thing to note is the sound environment is a bit noisy, my girlfriend could hear a few conversations from around the cafe even though we were tucked towards the back. Drinks came last should be first. Nobody came to ask if everything was alright until we asked for the check. Fries fried wrong temp and dirty oil. Strawberry kiss drink had a lingering freeze dried fruit taste. Tempura shrimp had chemically old taste. Strawberry mojito good add slush option in the summer please also for the texture difference since it will complement the flavors and textures. Mango sticky rice drink was good but the starchy green rice was always clogging the straw maybe replace it with rice puffs on top for texture and stop the rice from clumping(it will get soft and sink for boba effect) Water cup was always filled big plus I don't mind a crowd and it was packed but the seating was perfect Will visit again to try more things like the actual sweet treats you eat with a spoon they looked amazing as they passed by read more

The food was alright, but was refreshing. In my opinion the food looks better than it tastes, but it's extremely expensive given how the food tastes. The bingsoo and cake slice was good, but the toast felt lackluster and dry. The service was also on the slower side but that was okay. TLDR: okay on special occasions for the pictures, but to fulfill your cravings I'd recommend elsewhere as the prices were a bit too high in my opinion. Food was hot and flavorful. The menu options are vast. From sweet to savory. There's something for everyone. We tried to cheese corn dog- had cheese and fish sausage inside. Very flavorful and crunchy. The honey on the outside gave it a different flavor. Next we had the chicken and fries. The wings were fried well and seasoned with love. The wedges were hot and crispy. The dipping sauces were cold- kind of a temperature shock compared to the food. We had dessert as well. The lychee cake with the cheese. Idk how to describe it but wow. It was good. Especially with the fresh lychee fruit on top. My daughter tried the matcha chocolate lava cake. It was very lava-like. It came with a small dish of matcha ice cream. Overall the food and service were good, but the restaurant smells like old dust. The seating is either velveteen-like cloth or bar stools. The fabric doesn't smell clean or like it's been vacuumed recently. It also has food stains on them. The walls are white so stains show up easy and there were quite a bit of them. We used to visit their other location in the city, but we've been coming to this location more often lately because we feel more comfortable in this area. Overall, it's been a good experience every time. Parking can be challenging depending on the time of day. Most of the parking is on the street, so you'll need to keep an eye out for pedestrians and bicyclists while looking for a spot. That's probably the biggest inconvenience of visiting this place. There is usually a 15 to 20-minute wait whenever we come for dessert, but we've always been seated within the quoted wait time, which we appreciate. The restaurant itself is fairly small, so the dining area can feel crowded. Tables are very close together, and you're practically sitting back-to-back with other guests. Because of this, the noise level can get pretty high, and it's easy to overhear conversations from nearby tables. The desserts are the highlight here. The BingSu is excellent, and the lava cake is one of our favorites. The menu is accessed through a QR code, making ordering simple and convenient. Food portions are decent, although prices are definitely on the premium side. Service is efficient, and the food and desserts usually arrive pretty quickly. We used to go to their city location regularly, but over the years we've found ourselves visiting this location more often because the area feels more comfortable and convenient for us. That has made this our go-to spot whenever we're craving dessert. Overall, this is a great place for dessert. The quality of the desserts keeps us coming back, but the difficult parking situation and cramped seating prevent it from being a full 5-star experience.
