We came on a Saturday around 2pm and were wondering if it was open as the place didnt have anyone until you go on the other side of the bar. Isiah was the host and waiter. It had been a while since we went into famous Dave's here in Alameda for a late lunch. We ordered two appetizers, the barbecue nachos with chopped pork and the mac & cheese balls. Both appetizers were good, but the nachos could've used more meat. I felt it was a very little amount of chop pork on the nachos. We also did enjoy a couple of the margaritas. My favorite one has been the watermelon, Margarita. For the main meal, my husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger with a side of tater tots. It was a very good size burger and tasted great. We're rarely in this part of the Bay, but recently found ourselves here and stumbled on this location of Famous Daves. Walked in and the place is huge. It seems newly built inside and out, with fresh everything from table and chairs to TVs and menus. Suffice to say, it felt sparkling clean inside. But worried that on this Saturday early dinner, it was relatively empty. We dropped in on a night when the Dodgers (yuck) were playing in the postseason. But surprised it wasn't on. Had to ask one the waiters to put the game on one of the 20 TVs they had going on. I really think it's the bartenders job to know what's going on sportswise on the day of their shift. And tune the games to show. Oh well, I ordered up a beer and one of the combo plates that you get to pick your meats. Got me some ribs of course and some brisket. The ribs were nice and tender and not fall off the bone. Which I like. It had some bite to it. Don't like when it just comes off the bone. Mines came without sauce, but there's a bunch of bottles on the table that you can dress your meat to your liking. The brisket was also good, tender and juicy. I remember going to the original Famous Dave's about twenty years ago in Minneapolis. Good food for not a whole lot of money. So I was psyched when I saw they had grown out of their midwestern roots and set up a restaurant in alameda. Checked it out with my fam. And yeah. Some things have changed. The seating area is modern and bright but has lots of good nooks to eat with your people. Felt a bit sad it was empty at 7:30 pm on a Saturday night. Maybe alamedans don't party late? Ordered the feast for two despite having four people cuz some of us weren't that hungry. That was a good call as the plate that arrived was huge and could have easily fed four hungry people. Lots of leftovers I think. This is a Midwest bbq so it's different from Texas or South Carolina. Good in its own right. I find it a bit sweet. The provided sauces were good but wish there was even more choice. Oh yeah, the onion rings were on the smalll side but the two sauces they came with were yummy. Good beer selection. Late post from this past Sunday. I totally meant to post sooner. Second visit to this location. I had great service by the person who was running the corner and bartending and serving which is quite a bit for one person but he did a good job. The food is always great and this location is pretty quiet which is also a plus. I was there around lunch time just after opening so that should be mentioned. I will continue to return as I am a fan of the franchise and it's food. I had a couple drinks also which were good. Lots of seating - tons of options - both inside and out. Sit on the perimeter for quiet - or near the bar with the TVs. This restaurant is just across the street from the new $1.5 million pack and stack housing. I'm ready to live in a shoe box there just so I can have Famous Dave as my neighbor. Recently was also at Everette and Jones. So many redneck diamonds on the sidewalks there. If you've got an SUV I would strongly suggest you come here instead - or mabye E&Js #2. Ordered the 4 piece St. Louis Style ribs with the potato salad and jalapeño Mac and cheese. This place was a ghost town at lunch time on a Saturday. I placed my order to to and the credit cardaching was down so they had to move me to a different register. They couldn't figure out how to put extra sauce on the side so I asked them how did they do that for to go orders? They said they just placed it on the ribs itself. As you can clearly see the ribs do not have a lot of sauce, nor do they have a lot of meat. I felt like it was a rip off. Dry NOT meaty ribs with a broken cornbread muffin which mimics my feelings and barely warm heat lamp jalapeño Mac and cheese was like 2 1/2 stars. The potato salad was okay at 3 stars average.. The cold cornbread muffin being the best thing at 4 stars even though it was cold. The dry ribs were like chewy beef jerky...when you could get some meat. Pretty good barbecue spot. I got the rib and meat combo. I opted for the brisket as my meat option along with the ribs. I also got French fries and coleslaw with my meal. The meal already included a slice of cornbread. First of all, the ribs were delicious. They were cooked exceptionally. They were tender and had a very wonderful flavor. Loved that smoke of the ribs. The brisket on the other hand was okay. I felt that they were a bit overcooked. I was glad that I had the pleasure of eating the brisket with their BBQ sauces. I have tried the 3 that were provided and enjoyed the sweet and tangy sauce the best. The sauce definitely saved the slightly overcooked meat. The fries were good and tasted better with the sauces. The slaw was okay. The cornbread wasn't too bad. It has a nice consistency and wasn't too sweet. I was really surprised by how much lemonade I was given. It was served in a pretty big mason jar and it was a lot for me to finish. Service wasn't too bad. Our server was very friendly and efficient. They made sure our meal came in a timely manner and also made sure we had an enjoyable experience. It was actually a delight to have a huge glass of drink to wash down all of the meat that I have consumed. The ambiance was nice. The restaurant is situated in a plaza with many other businesses. Ribs and burnt ends were mostly fat. I have never seen fat in burnt ends which made me think they were made from something other than brisket. The ribs were also mostly fat making them inedible as my child said "the top part is too soft". On the up side, the thick potato wedges (not fries as they call them) and the chicken were delicious. Today after attending the Black College Expo in Oakland, we went through the tunnel and came over to Alameda. We walked in and there was nobody in front of the restaurant. We will stayed there by the register then I walked towards the back. There was a couple sitting and eating, but no employee to be found so we standing around for another three minutes or so and my daughter started going to the kitchen and knock on the door by the time she got back followed by an employee I was already over this place. My office did lunch delivery from Famous Dave's and it was fantastic! The portions are very generous so be careful not to overstuff yourself! I had a two meat combo with the brisket and ribs. All the meat was moist and pull apart delicious! The devil's spit hot BBQ sauce is delicious and not too hot. I don't eat cornbread. Ever. I devoured their cornbread without even using butter. It is amazing. My sides were the jalapeño Mac n cheese and the beans. The beans are stupid good and I wish I had more! I ate all of the Mac b/c it was tasty and the jalapeño added a nice hint of flavor but I would say the cheese sauce was a bit loose and saucy more than cheesy. However, the food. Oof I was not impressed. I felt it was way to expensive for what it was. My man got a salad with chicken and the chicken was sand paper dry and hard to choke down. I got the cup of chili and it was too spicy for me not to mention I had a strange allergic reaction on my mouth after eating it. The best part of the meal was the corn bread and my small side salad. I wish a had read a review on this place before stepping a foot in there. The nastiest bbq I have ever had. Ordered the brisket. Consistency of the meat = tire rubber, it look dark and old. The sauce not good flavor, you're better off getting Hawaiian across the street or five guys. Funny thing is that they're prices are crazy. 30 dollars for a meal with a cornbread side. Sometimes looks are deceiving and food looks better than it tastes. This is the case with Famous Dave's bbq. I got the St. Louis combo with mac and cheese and potato salad with added order of brisket. The ribs aren't a part of the 2 or 3 meat combos. The ribs were tough and just ok. Same with the brisket...tough, dry and reminded me of jerky. The sides were aright, can't really mess up the sides or can you?! Cornbread muffin was dry. Me and my friend stopped by mid afternoon and there was barely anyone inside. Both of us hadn't really eaten anything all day so we decided on the Feast for Two with 2 fries and 1 beans as our sides and 2 Pepsi for drinks. Fries were one of the last things I ate and it was still warm. I didn't try the beans since I'm not a bean guy but my friend wanted it. Everything tasted delicious and we were both full. I like the way the inside of the restaurant is laid out. Lots of open space and the tables are spread out throughout the restaurant.
