    Tea leaf salad
    Cynthia C.

Surprised at how reasonable the lunch prices were! Also usually no specials on weekends and usually not on a holiday. Check, check, check. A little muggy in the interior and the seating is pretty cramped. We wanted parklet seating but they were full outside on July 4th. Service was kind and professional. Food was not necessarily photogenic but it was solid. And I liked how I wasn't thirsty afterwards.

Came here with a group of people. First time trying Burmese food. We were seated outside for dinner. There is a heater for outside seating. We got 2 salads- the tea leaf and rainbow salad. We also ordered samosa, mango chicken, spicy pork, pumpkin pork stew and coconut rice. I also ordered the sassy lassi which was a mango lassi with vodka. That was interesting. Overall the food was good. Samosa was ok, had lot of potatoes. Pumpkin pork was a comforting disg. The spicy pork was a little salty. The mango chicken dish and pumpkin pork I liked the best with coconut rice. The waiter who took our order was patient with us when we were deciding what to order. He also took a picture for us.

This was a truly delicious meal. When you talk about food giving you life, this was really it. Everything was wholesome, hearty, and fresh. From the calamari, to the tea leaf salad, to the curry, to the sesame chicken & beef, this was a special meal. This is definitely a return spot for me and I was truly impressed with all of the options. There's plenty more for me to try. Don't miss this delicious spot.

Umm the best obviously?? My dad and I always debate on which location is better but idk alameda does their mango salad REALLY good and the lamb doesn't taste tooo gamey it's perfect I crave it all the time it hits the spot especially their lunch options are just the perfect portion. My dad really likes their lunch options milk tea but it's a little too bitter for my sweet tooth. Service is great here kind smiling genuine servers who really care for you. We like sitting outside I've actually never been inside so I can't speak for the ambiance

Came here with my family for a recent graduation and the food did not disappoint. We started with the Platha & Dip, which came out hot and flaky with a rich curry dip that I could honestly have eaten on its own. The Burmese Samusas were crisp and golden, perfect with the sweet chili sauce on the side. But the standout for me was the Lotus Root Chips. They were light, crunchy, and came with a creamy dip that kept me reaching for more. Everything was fresh and full of flavor, and you can tell they put real care into each dish. The service was excellent too. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations without ever rushing us. It really added to the whole experience. A couple of small things to note. The space is a little cramped, so it can feel tight when it is busy. And the price is on the higher side, so just go in knowing that. Those are the only reasons I am holding back from five stars. Would I come back? Absolutely. Just maybe for a special occasion when I am ready to treat myself. Highly recommend if you want something a little different and packed with flavor.

    Welcome to killer food.

Selasteen our server was amazing. He and the entire crew that worked there were so regular stopping to check. Make sure we had everything that we lacked for nothing. The quality of the food was amazing. I loved it. I loved everything that we ate and we all shared. There were six of us each of us ordered something different and the flavors were such a treat to my palette. The presentation was beautiful. The service was killer. The prices were reasonable for the amount of food that you got. I would return here again and again. Thank you for a beautiful evening out with my family and all six of us. Agree you rocked it.

I was in the area and this place got good ratings. We got a lot of dishes and shared family style. We got laphet thoke salad, OHN NO KHAUK SWE soup, NAN GYI DOK noodles, and broccoli and tofu. The food was flavorful and super good. My favorite was the Ohn No Khauk Swe soup and the salad. The presentation was cool too and they also would mix the food in front of you. I will say that after a few hours, my friend did get sick. I also had stomach pain but figured it was because I ate too much. I'm not sure if this was correlated to this food, but wanted to be honest and say she did have stomach pain for the next few days.

Great place with great food. I usually order to go but recently went and dined in. I sat outside and the waiter was friendly and efficient and made sure to offer to turn on the heat lamp for us once it got cold. I'm vegan and Burma has really good vegan options with a clearly labeled menu for what is vegan or can be modified to be vegan. The main con is this place is pricey for their portions in my opinion. I would recommend going with a group and doing family style, otherwise the bill can add up pretty quickly.

I arrived very early to meet a friend on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant was not too busy around 5:00. There was also tons of outdoor (covered and heated) seating. The staff were super accommodating when I let them know my friend wouldn't there for maybe 30-40 minutes. Our server was awesome. The outdoor seating was cozy even as the sun went down. He occasionally checked in to see if the temperature was still okay. I don't remember the gentleman's name, but our server was great. He bought out the Golden Hour Menu (M-F, 3-6pm). The drink specials were amazing. Cocktails for 50% off! Most, if not all were about $8 and yummy. We tried a number of them. The cucumber water was refreshing. The ginger lemon drop had just enough of each flavor component to hit the spot. I ordered the chicken samusas ($7), salt and pepper chicken ($8) and the calamari ($9) all from the Golden Hour menu. Portion sizes were hearty. Our server was kind enough to let me order before my friend arrived and waited until she arrived to serve us. It was plenty of food for two people. The only minor note is that the bathroom is down a somewhat small walkway past where take out and dishes are stored. Some of the tables inside looked very compact, especially if a party of two orders more than two dishes. Outside table for the win! We had such a great experience. We were there for at least three hours and never once felt rushed to leave after we finished.

Enjoyed a great lunch with friends at Burma Superstar! The service was super attentive and responsive. That's what gave it a 5 star rating. We ordered a few dishes and ate family style. I really love their coconut rice and their catfish curry, I have had it several times. I also had the ginger lemonade. This was my first time trying the chicken appetizer it was so crunchy and delicious. It was also my first time having the lamb and tofu dish, also very good! I recommend stopping here when you're in the neighborhood and want to enjoy outdoor or indoor seating on a nice day!

Food was great! Burmese food feels like Indian flavors with its own unique twist, which I really enjoyed. Everything tasted super distinct and flavorful. The service was friendly, and they were especially sweet about my dog. They brought him water right away. We sat outside on the patio, which made it an even nicer experience.

First time at this location and it didn't disappoint. I called in to make reservation for 6 pm same day and they were able to accommodate. Tea Leaf Salad:enjoyed all of the different textures and flavors. Fried Calamari: nicely fried and nice portion with jalapeños/scallions Garlic noodles were a big miss. Not much garlic flavor and didn't really taste much flavor at all. The chicken curry was good as well. Not spicy at all to me but had good flavor. Get the coconut rice too. Service was nice from everyone. Indoor/outdoor seating available Street parking

Instead of turning us away, the staff graciously seated us and welcomed us with genuine warmth and kindness. That level of hospitality is rare and deeply appreciated. Our server, Hameed, was absolutely wonderful--so patient, attentive, and gracious even though we arrived at such an inconvenient time. He made us feel completely welcome and never rushed us. The food, as always, was extraordinary. The Tea Leaf Salad and Samosas were exquisite--bright, complex, and perfectly balanced. This was my nephew's first time trying Burmese cuisine and he was completely blown away. For our mains, I had the Shredded Mint Chicken, which was fragrant, fresh, and packed with flavor. My nephew ordered the Chili Lamb, and he loved every bite--rich, savory, and beautifully spiced. It was one of those meals where every dish delights, and you leave already thinking about what you'll order next time. Burma Superstar has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Oakland, and experiences like this are exactly why. Exceptional food, exceptional hospitality, and a team that truly cares about their guests. I will continue to recommend Burma Superstar most highly to anyone looking for a memorable meal in the East Bay.

Things changed: more breading on the chicken (spicy crispy chicken) and reduced protein in some of the other dishes, too. But the flavors still hit and its popularity hasn't dimmed much on the nights I've gone over the last few years. I bought their cookbook years back but much of what I like isn't in it, so I keep coming back for the food and community vibes. There is a communal table, which I appreciate though I tend to sit at the bar when I go alone. It's worth it to get a view of what's happening all around you. The B S in Alameda doesn't have the same energy or coziness, but it is easier to access with safer parking (now windows broken there but I've had that here and been hassled walking to/from) and dramatically shorter waits. The diversity of the diners is much lower than this one though (Alameda is still mostly old white people) and the menu has more options here, so I'll continue to return again and again and recommend it to others ... and hope to not have to replace car windows.

The Roti Dip was OUT OF THIS WORLD (6/5). It exceeded my expectations. The Roti was very soft and crispy and the dip had an amazing coconut/herby taste. The waiter saw how much we loved the dip and brought us another one to use for our rice. Big shout out to her! The chicken wings were okay. Not that spicy for me (I have a high spice tolerance) but I expected them to be more savory. They were cooked very well though. I would give it a 3/5 Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed with my main which was the crispy whole dried fish. I am a sucker for whole fish dishes so I was pretty excited and expectant for something spectacular. The fish itself was bland. It was very crispy and cooked well but not really seasoned. I had thought the sauce they serve with it was intended to impart flavor on the fish, but the sauce was just very tangy and not flavorful. I did finish the fish though but it's not something I would get again. Overall a 2.5/5. Their coconut rice was good though I was expecting more of a coconut flavor with it. I would rate that a 4/5. It was cooked very well. I think this is a really nice place though, perhaps I just did not order the right or more popular dishes. I'll be coming back for the ROTI WITH DIP (It was that good) and to try the other items in their menu.

I really loved the interior design. Everything was clean and well put together. The restaurant had a smaller, cozy feeling but still felt spacious enough to sit down and enjoy a meal. My favorite parts were the cultural decorations and paintings throughout the restaurant. Little details like that made the experience feel more authentic. Even the cashier area was beautifully designed and added to the overall atmosphere. Customer Service - 5/5 The service was very good. The server was extremely welcoming and friendly -- I believe she might have been the owner. She greeted us with a beautiful smile and created a warm environment that made the whole dining experience even better. Small interactions like that make a restaurant feel more personal and memorable. Food - 5/5 Dish Ordered: Trei Chlaing Chein Kroeung (Pan Fried Catfish) 5/5 My first time trying Cambodian food, and honestly this was an amazing introduction to the cuisine. This was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. The fish was cooked perfectly -- crispy golden skin on the outside while staying incredibly tender and flavorful on the inside. The sauce was what brought everything together. It was light with the perfect consistency, not too thick and not too heavy. You could taste the lemon coming through, adding the right amount of freshness and kick. There was a little spice, but not the kind that takes over the dish. It created a wonderful balance where every flavor complemented each other. The combination of the fish, sauce, citrus, and seasoning was simple but executed perfectly. Every bite made me want to keep eating. It was honestly delicious. Would I Order Again: 100% Yes. This is easily a dish I would come back for. No surprise this restaurant was previously Michelin recommended -- you can taste the quality and care behind the cooking. Additional Comment: I've always struggled with the idea that eating healthy means sacrificing flavor. A lot of healthier foods like salads can sometimes feel unsatisfying, but this dish reminded me that food can be both healthy and incredibly delicious when done right. I have passed by this restaurant ever since I was young, and it's amazing to see that it's still here after all these years. Seeing a restaurant with food this good not filled with customers honestly feels like a shame. Great food deserves to be discovered, shared, and supported. From the welcoming service, beautiful cultural atmosphere, and unforgettable food, this was an incredible first experience with Cambodian cuisine. I will definitely be back. This is the kind of restaurant you hope stays around for many more years.
