Not sure where I heard about this place, but I've had it bookmarked for a while. Since I was in the area, we decided to stop by to check it out. I didn't realize that it was inside the marketplace at the far end near the door. I ordered the Tahina bowl with chicken and my order was ready within 10 minutes. I love Mediterranean food and enjoyed all the different ingredients in the bowl, especially the saffron rice and tahina sauce. It would've been nice if they gave a few pieces of bread/pita chips to dip in the hummus. They do charge extra for protein so it came out to $17 for just one bowl. It's definitely on the pricier side but what isn't pricey nowadays. I would love to come back to try their wraps and pitas next time I'm in the area. There is also a few tables available inside to eat our food, which was nice.

I have to say this meal hit the spot. Nice Shawarma plates that filled our bellies. Located inside the Marketplace in Alameda. Parking lot was full so had to wait for someone to leave. They have outdoor seating alongside of the building. Beautiful day so it was very pleasant. You go inside to place your order. They call your number when ready. Clean and orderly front counter service. We ordered Beef Shawarma plate with eggplant dip and cucumber labne Chicken Shawarma plate with eggplant dip and hummus The meat protein is served over saffron rice and some pickled veggies. Great combination of flavors and textures. Savory meat with fresh veggies. Includes pita bread slices. Warm, chewy, soft. So good to dip into the side dishes.

Another delicious meal @Tahina. Went in and placed an order and 10 minutes later my number was called. - Beef Shawarma Plate - ***** w/fries, hummus, beef on top of saffron rice and pickled onions and salad. It was so tasty and filling. Can easily be shared if you're not too hungry. Love that it's like a healthier fast food option without the guilt.

Friendly counter service with a few seat inside and more outdoor seating outside of Marketplace building. I picked up a beef wrap and IT WAS TO DIE FOR. The textures and flavors were perfect for my tastes. I can't wait to go back.

Greens and grains next door is one of my favorite places, but this is definitely up there now. I've ordered plenty of times, albeit looooooooong wait times especially during lunch. The wait is always worth it. The falafel is fantastic and so are the fries. The roasted cauliflower is also very tasty. I always get an order of falafel and a chicken/beef plate. Pita is some of the best I've had as well, can't tell if it's fresh or frozen but really good either way.

I decided to check out Tahina and order ahead for takeout when I was in Alameda; the store is located inside of a marketplace. I ordered the tahina bowl, pomegranate lemonade, and halwa, which were ready a little earlier than the scheduled pickup time based on the email notification I received. Unfortunately since I was going home via bus and walking, on the way, the lid of the bowl got slightly loose, so some of the tahini sauce (that's what it tasted like to me, even though it's called "tahina" in the description) leaked out of the bowl and broke a hole in the bottom of the bag, so just be careful about transporting it carefully. Pomegranate lemonade: I unfortunately found the lemon part of it is overpowering so it was harder for me to pick out the flavor of the pomegranate. Aside from the color being different, it mostly just tasted like lemonade. Tahina bowl: The vegan lamb does taste kind of like lamb, but maybe not worth a whole extra $8. I liked the saffron rice and tahini sauce though, so overall the food was savory and pretty tasty. Halwa: It had heavy sesame flavor, but I liked it especially since there was a lot of rose petals. Just be careful to not choke on the powdery parts and other tiny bits.

I ordered a meal through DoorDash and am glad I did so I could try the food and definitely was not disappointed . I have never had food from this restaurant before and was curious what the food would taste like. The reviews and menu were promising . They have an impressive selection of meals to choose from. I chose the chicken Shawarma plate with a side of fresh pita bread. The food was fresh, top quality products prepared to perfection. Flavors were spot on. Tender flavorful chicken, delicious rice and salad and the pita bread was soft fresh and yummy. And don't let me forget succulent fresh hummus. Give this place a try you will be glad you did. Bon appétit

When craving fresh med food, I come here. The pitas are fresh and soft. I ordered the beef wrap. Meat was tasty. Loved the pickled red onions and added greens.

Came here on a Wednesday evening. They were open and there was a short line. Do note that they have very few dining spots, it's more of a take out spot. I sat outdoors on a small table. They have 2 small outdoor tables. Fries are well seasoned and very crispy! You do have to ask for ketchup though. Chicken shawarma was also very good. I had to save half for later.

Tahina in Alameda is a delicious mediterranean spot serving delicious chicken Shawarma plates and wraps to go and for takeout. Their salads, hummus, and sauces are so good as well. What stands out about their food is that they serve large portions and everything is super fresh and delicious. Their staff is friendly and hard at work getting your order ready. This place is very popular especially after work. It may take about 10-15 minutes to get your food as there is usually a line there. Everything I've eaten here is delicious! They are located inside the Alameda Natural Grocer and they have a few tables inside the grocery store if you're super hungry and want to eat there but Tahina does not have a seating area. Tons of parking in the street and in their parking lot. Highly recommend!

Overview: Fast, delicious Mediterranean food, "to-go" atmosphere but restaurant quality food ---- Beef Shawarma Plate $17 - sides I chose were eggplant dip and quinoa tabouli - flavors of everything were great - comes with saffron rice, small side salad, and pita Rolled Pistachio Baklava $5.85 - perfect crunch - good amount of pistachios - they had regular baklava available as well ---- Other notes: - street parking or the parking lot in the back - service was nice, friendly, and quick - dessert options like baklava located in front on where you order - ambiance is very "to-go" there isn't inside seating next to where you order - there's a couple outside seats - other inside seating are closer to the beanery and the coffee area - located inside the Alameda Marketplace alongside a couple other to-go restaurants, the grocery store, and coffee shop -- Overall: a great find in alameda for Mediterranean food, flavors of both the food and desserts were yummy, I really like the eggplant dip and the baklava

Falafel, so fresh, crunchy and delicious.

I was back in the area and had to stop by again. The service is always friendly, and your food comes out fast and flavorful. On two separate visits there was plenty of street parking. There was plenty of seating outside on the street. A nice urban ambiance. Come to Tahina whenever your in Alameda.

*This is for the Greek frozen yogurt* While I love it and get it almost every time I come here, the topping amount can be inconsistent. The last time I came here, one of the three frozen yogurts we ordered was completely melted. The staff fixed it, but it was weird that it was sent out to customers given how soupy it was. Will this stop me from getting more frozen yogurt? No... but I am just more aware that sometimes I will get more or less baklava crumbles depending on who is making it.

Palella was flavorful and enjoyable. Everything on this plate cooked just right! To continue the celebration we ate dessert! Crème brûlée, raspberry sorbet, chocolate crème. Delectable and hit the spot finish :-) Thank you Asena for capping off a beautiful day with tantalizing our tastebuds.

I was in the area looking to grab a bite before heading to Southie to catch the Hawks manhandle the Niners. As usual, the restaurant that I always look to forward to visiting is Hummus Republic. Once I found some parking around the corner, I was happily skipping down the block towards the entrance, until... The place was dark, and no one was inside. I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't one of the scheduled closed days. Sure enough, it was not. There was also no signage on the window or any mention of a vacation or emergency. It was just... closed. As I looked inside, I noticed some furniture and decor had already been removed, so I knew it was beyond the point of no return. In any event, it is indeed a dark time for me, as I frequented Hummus Republic quite often. Yes, I know it is a chain, but the nearest one that I know of now is all the way in Livermore near the outlets. Honestly, it's not completely a shock though, as this particular location was often empty, and I also heard that rent is quite high. There are also alternative Mediterranean shops in the vicinity, such as Tahina and Q's, but none of them combine the level of freshness, convenience and overall value as Hummus Republic. Although it's a lazy comparison used a zillion times before, just think of Hummus Republic as the Chipotle of Mediterranean fare. Depending on who you get serving you, portions can range from large to absolutely gargantuan. It's no exaggeration when I say that a single bowl serving is pretty much enough for both lunch and dinner. Coming from a pig like yours truly, that is saying a lot! Sadly, this exact address also seems to have a high turnover rate, as I have seen a myriad of various businesses sprout up there in recent years. Hopefully the next tenant will provide something to fill the inevitable void. RIP Hummus Republic! You will be sorely missed! The only thing that improved my mood after witnessing this sad news was watching the Hawks absolutely mollywhop the Niners. :‑D
