This place sits in my heart as another Latina-owned and local business that everyone appreciates. I love how aesthetic they made their coffee shop, despite it being in such a small space. They promote so much culture and honestly I do not take any of that for granted. When Cafe Cordoba down the street is closed or too full at times, I usually go to this coffee shop. Their cafe de ollas are also the best in the nation as well -- hence, why I go to them so much more often. If you want to go for the pastries, go early though -- they usually either run out by mid-morning or even before. The hospitality at this coffee shop is top-notch. This place is amazing! I found it on a whim. It is very cutely decorated inside and looks to be family run. All workers are friendly and attentive. I ordered the chipotle chicken sandwich and my boyfriend got the el despreciado sandwich. Both were DELICIOUS, well sized and came with a side salad. I had to take half of mine to go and I loved that they were filling, but not too heavy. The side salad was delicious and helped that light portion size compared to potatoes or chips. This is probably the cutest cafe in the surrounding area. It appears to be family run and while I didn't have any food, the food looked fresh and tasty. Their menu has healthier options available, including vegan options. Unfortunately, they are charging really high prices for coffee drinks but the quality of ingredients is really poor. Since I am vegan, I had to ask them about what they used for their mocha to read the ingredients. They use Hershey's syrup and charge over $6 for a small mocha. You can get a mocha with no artificial flavors, real cocoa, and no high fructose corn syrup, etc from a nice cafe in Piedmont for that price. That price is far too high for Hershey's syrup and I ended up getting a vanilla latte that tasted like it came from a gas station. 4 stars for the decor and because the food looked good. read more

I love this corner cafe! I love having a chill, go-to spot where you can get some studying/work done while you order food. It is owned by a Hispanic woman named Irma, and she has been very kindhearted every time I stop by. Irma and the staff provide excellent customer service consistently, but please keep in mind this is a small family owned business and items are made to order. I love supporting mom and pop shops because it increases the satisfaction of living in the neighborhood for those in the are. Unfortunately, there is nothing like The Romo Cafe in my own neighborhood of Castlemont in East Oakland. Thankfully, I am able to enjoy being at The Romo after I drop off my son at school or when I'm on the way to work. Their menu has a good variety of breakfast/brunch/lunch type food. If you see something and would like it modified, just let Irma or Veronica know and they'll fix it up for you. Like, today, I had an egg sandwich for breakfast and added turkey and avocado. Yesterday, I had the Cobb salad and I can literally drink that dressing. If you're in a rush, make sure to call at least 15/20 minutes ahead of time so you don't have to wait for your food. Parking can be kind of tricky right at the front but you can find some on the side streets that intersect. Oh! Make sure that when you look up on Yelp/Google/map search for "The Romo Cafe in Oakland" or else it might give you directions to a different business in Hayward.
