There isn't much that needs to be said about kitava besides "I'm obsessed"! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and experience at kitava. The restaurant itself is super cute, and the ordering process is a breeze. The staff were super friendly, and the food came out quickly. I love a good self-serve water station, and they get extra points for having a delicious cucumber water! I was so impressed by the freshness and quality of the food, especially since everything was gluten free. My boyfriend and I both chose the "build your own bowl" option. In my bowl, I chose: - cauliflower rice - crispy chicken - charred broccoli - brussels sprouts - ponzu ginger sauce First of all, my bowl was phenomenal. Every single element was delicious and flavorful. I highly recommend everything I got. It was my perfect bowl! My boyfriend chose: - jasmine rice - paprika chicken - charred broccoli - chimichurri mushrooms - pickled onions - jalapeño lime dressing His bowl was also so delicious. I thought that the chicken tasted like a better, higher quality chipotle chicken. The ingredients were so fresh tasting, and the jalapeño lime dressing was so good. I also wanted to give their desserts a try, so we went with the dark chocolate chip cookie. This was the most "gluten free" tasting thing out of everything we got. The texture of the cookie was unlike normal cookies, but that didn't bother us much. The cookie itself was more on the "less-sweet" side, and was packed with rich dark chocolate. While not exactly my thing, it's worth a try for true dark chocolate lovers! Overall, I was so impressed by kitava. It is the perfect option when you want something healthy and fresh, but do not want to sacrifice flavor. I was absolutely be back!
Delicious and flavorful, one of My favorite bowl places. I love the whole Folds, clean ingredients, low Processed foods. I especially love that they don't use dairy or seed oils in their dressings. I often get all veggie bowls and they are super filling. Much of the menu is also Daniel Fast- friendly
Wish there were more places like this where healthy foods just taste so good ! Everything on the menu was tempting- order at the kiosk and they bring it to you . Otherwise it- grab your own utensils water and bus your own plates. We started with their chicken and wild rice soup that also came with mushrooms in a "immunity" broth - it was so savory and warming. This is what I would want the next time I get a cold ! I love all the bowls and salad options. You can't even build your own bowlsz The plantain bowl was delicious and came with beans and a refreshing kale slaw . I couldn't decide between some of the chicken bowls and we ended up getting the Sesame Chicken, which is lightly battered and crispy. It's also hard to decide between all the fun sides they have. Eggplant is my fave , and is like not on menus enough, so I appreciated that ! We also have their cauliflower and hummus side - cauliflower was perfectly cooked, being lightly crisped. They have coffee (but no espresso drinks), beer and juice and also kombucha on tap. The kombucha tap comes in a number of flavors and we enjoy the strawberry one . The interior is also very modern and welcoming !! I'll need to check out their sister site next time. I'm in the Mission !
Healthy with many vegan options. I went with a make your own bowl with... Wild Rice Plant Protein made with beans nuts and oats Charred broccoli Eggplant Avo Goddess dressing Tasty Healthy Friendly service
The service was quick, and you can really taste how fresh the ingredients are. I also loved how clean the space was and it reflects in quality and care that goes into the food. On days when I don't feel like cooking but also don't want something heavy or greasy, this is the perfect spot.
My best friend and I came to Kitava for lunch after taking a top rope class at Great Western Power Company. It was very evident that the dishes live up to the restaurant's health-focused marketing. My sesame chicken bowl was pretty light despite the chicken being fried. At most places the chicken would be extra salty but not here. The chicken was actually so mild, it needed the sauce to carry it, and the bowl overall was well-balanced with vegetables, protein, and carbs. I also got a side of crispy cauliflower (not pictured) to share, and it was the best item here. It was perfectly crispy and well-seasoned.
Dining in, the food is fantastic. Bowls are delicious and healthy, service is also good, ambiance is Oakland nice. I'd have dinner with friends or family here or even a date night.
My friends and I stopped by Kativa in Oakland, and I'm so glad we did. I went with the build-your-own bowl, crispy chicken, cauliflower rice, sweet potatoes, and brussels sprouts and it was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned, and I loved that I could customize it exactly how I wanted. The space has a really welcoming vibe with its modern, clean design and friendly staff. You can tell they care about quality ingredients and creating food that's both healthy and satisfying. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
Met a friend for dinner and she suggested this place. I was familiar with the area, but never heard of Kitava before. The menu sounded healthy and contained a number of items I enjoy so I was keen to give it a try. I thought parking would be difficult, but it actually was not too bad for a Tuesday evening. And the streets were not terribly busy. It has a corner location which is great and the place is full of windows. Near the entrance are 2 small tables to enjoy a meal in the nice weather we had today. While not a huge place, it felt very open and had ample seating. You place your order and then seat yourself. They do quite a bit of take out, so that was a great sign. I ordered the plantains, brussel sprouts, and their chicken. They infused their water with fruit so I was happy to have that. We sat in the front corner to enjoy the wonderful windows and views outside. Each of my dishes came with their own sauces. And like many people have already mentioned, I liked the ketchup as well. I was very pleased with each of my little dishes. It was the perfect meal. I got my fiber, protein and carbs and I didn't feel guilty eating any of it. I can't wait to come back and try out the rest of the menu.
Came across this place as a Yelp suggestion and decided to have a lunch meeting here. I'm so happy I found this place! It's literally the best place for delicious food, but great lighting and seating options. I had the sweet plantain bowl and added paprika chicken, plus a side of the cauliflower bites. The cauliflower was perfectly crispy. Though it didn't have a sauce on them, they were perfectly seasoned. The dipping sauce was so yummy too! I wanted a bottle of it to take home. My bowl is perfectly balanced, perfectly seasoned and great portion size. My colleague enjoyed her food as well, the only down side to her meal was that it took a bit longer to make but the woman who took our order didn't give us a heads up. I can't remember the name of the dish, but it's something they should either note on the menu or disclose when people are ordering. Other than that, this place is a winner! Food rating Sweet plantain bowl 10/10 Cauliflower bites 10/10 Customer service 8/10 Ambiance 9/10
Tuesday's kids eat free which is nice. Their fries are good too and the ketchup doesn't have a lot of sugar. Service is always nice and they are good about keeping it clean. We like their build your own bowl options. The kids always poach our tuna poke. The plantains are really good also. Nice place to eat healthy without breaking the bank. Kids like the food here too.

My daughter ordered a few chicken. Broccoli sesame bowls , french fries, Brussels sprouts , A green smoothie-yum and a couple of desserts that are going to be delivered to a good friend for her birthday. We live in Castro Valley and we're thrilled this restaurant delivers. Top quality food which was prepped and seasoned to perfection. Everything was delicious. Top notch!. Give this place a try you will be glad you did. Bon appetit. Support local businesses. Thank you read more
If you're looking for a healthy alternative for fast food, this should be top of mind. After spending the afternoon training at Witterfield for a 5K, my friends and I decided to find a healthy option and stumbled upon Kitava on yelp. We ordered... Sesame Chicken 4/5 Chicken was crispy. Broccoli was cooked perfectly. It could use a little more seasoning on the chicken and broccoli but the sauce was there to elevate it. Reminds me of panda express haha Miso Salmon Bowl 4/5 Salmon was cooked flaky and moist. Really enjoyed the jalapeño lime sauce. Brussel sprouts were roasted to perfection. Very light and tasty meal. Fish & Chips 4/5 Crispy fish and chips. Simple dish but it was fun and tasty! Evolved Caesar Salad + Paprika Chicken (Protein) 5/5 Absolute favorite. After mixing everything together it was the best healthy salad I've had in a while! Chicken was tender and flavorful! Enjoyed this dish the most. Service 5/5 Ordering is very quick, Staff was very friendly and our order came in timely within 10 minutes or less. They do serve your orders right to you but water and utensils are self served, as well as cleaning up after yourself. There is a 5% mandatory fee for employee health, so be aware of that. Ambience 5/5 I loved the vibes inside. It's very bright and homey. Made me feel good to be there. Seats are comfy and tables are clean. Parking was a breeze. Definitely adding this to my diet rotation if I forget to make a meal prep read more

They were very kind and welcoming here! I felt like a regular despite never reviewing the menu. Options were given as to how to order from how to read the menu to "we will take suggestions." And order here or go to the QR at the table. A relic of the pandemic, but sometimes you don't want to talk, and that's okay. I got a paprika chicken added Wild Mushroom Bowl... with cauliflower rice. Everything was fresh and well seasoned. Love the cafe environment. I think I could study or spend a few minutes researching something here. Will definitely be back! read more

I ordered a BYOB online from their website. The food itself was decent. The delivery person asked me to write him a great review, and I told him "sure," (I guess Kitava is partnered with DoorDash?) before realizing that my order came without napkins, utensils, etc. I asked about it, and he just responded "bad restaurant service." read more

Let me start off by saying this place was a very pleasant surprise! We came here randomly after an appointment nearby wanting something other than fast greasy food. The salads were so fresh and just the bit of healthy we needed at the moment. Staff was super friendly. We sat at the bar which was fine because the place was packed out. It had a cool little vibe where a lot of people seem to work from there or come chill out. Some people were playing cards, lots of laptops and also friends just enjoying a good meal with one another. We will be back to try new and different combos! read more
Exceptional and totally gluten free establishment. Was impressed that they have full nutritional information on their website that lists allergens, ingredients and nutrition facts. If a restaurant does this, they really to care about your health and well-being. I was caught off guard that the wild mushroom bowl was served cold (other than the wild rice), but aside from that, the bowl was an ideal and realist portion size of each item. The chimichurri mushrooms were rich. The ranch dressing was so herby, one of the best vegan ranch dressings I've ever had because it has so much herby flavor. The green goddess dressing was the best vegan green goddess dressing I've had. It's got a prominent acid punch. The wild rice was a little too mushy for my preference. I'm glad I ordered an extra side of greens, if I hadn't, the bowl itself would not have hit the mark of pleasure without the greens... would have been too much starch for me. The plant protein patty was the best black bean patty I've eaten. With the pumpkin seeds, oats and almonds, it really earns a gold medal in my book. I stuck around for dessert after my bowl. The soft serve ice cream is oh so creamy, hard to believe it's vegan and refined sugar free. The chocolate is uber rich and the maple is extraordinary. I also ordered a carrot spice muffin - gooey and delicious. I'm embarrassed, not, to say I devoured everything I ordered. Looking forward to returning and working my way through the menu! The dining room is roomy, with options to sit a high-top bar along the windows or at the official bar. Everything to-go is compostable. Love the care and diligence for health conscious humans and earth lovers. The only thing that disappointed me was the $1 extra charge for sauces. All the staff were genuinely caring and engaging. Made me feel really valued as a guest. read more

What an incredible and healthy meal. Everything tasted so fresh and clean but the real star is the seasonal soup! The soup is so good and hearty and has so much flavor. Simply nutritious and delicious. Their mission and values are another reason to come back. Everything was served quickly and although it's not the most extravagant food, it all tastes fresh and doesn't leave you feeling bloated or hungry either. It's a perfect balance. I came here after a hike and never felt better. You order up front on the kiosk or counter and they give you a number to bring at the table. You'll get served quickly. They have complimentary water and a utensils station. I haven't tried the drinks but they have some kombucha or other juices. Check out this location or the one in Mission. I'm sure their menu choices aren't that different. Overall, I would come again if I'm in need of a fix without wanting to visit Sweetgreen. Supporting local businesses instead of chains is always better! read more

I had been excited about Kitava because they have some really healthy food for the most part. The ingredients are well sourced. My friend bought me a power bowl. it was so delicious. Then I went back again and I got some of their fries. They were so tasty as well. I like that they don't use seed oil. Then I went on my own and I went to pay for my items and the woman said they don't accept cash. I was dumbfounded because that's what I make most of my transactions in. Dealing in cash, eliminates, needless fees, and promotes our currency. With some upset and hesitation. I found my card in my purse and I paid for it with a credit card, which I am trying to eliminate from my life. Was my power bowl tasty again? Yes but not as much because my enthusiasm for it has waned knowing that Kirava does not accept cash. It will probably deter me from going there as frequently or ever. Update: thank you for your response, Bryan. I truly empathize and did not even consider lawlessness of our Bay Area and California in general to be the reason why you went cashless, but now from that perspective, it makes sense. It's so unfortunate that these are the times we live in. Society is shooting itself in the foot. I appreciate the offer of a a free meal, but probably better not to become a soup kitchen. ;). Glad to hear there have been no more robberies. read more

Hi Lisa,…
Food: I shared the poke bowl and sesame chicken bowl with my partner. I liked the poke bowl more but $17 is kind of a lot considering the amount, you could definitely get a better deal at a regular poke spot. The sesame chicken bowl was okay, the broccoli was yummy! But I didn't find it too flavorful. I know this is a health food place, and everything does indeed taste fresh! But I think the tastiness doesn't match the high price for me :/ I also tried the seasonal agua fresca and sadly I didn't like it either. They top it with soda so it's not fully authentic and I think there was too much of the soda that took away from the fruit flavor. Service: you either order with someone at the counter or on your phone at the table once you scan the QR. the food came out quickly and workers were friendly. Ambiance: beautiful! Great lightning, lots of seating and space, WiFi, modern and comfortable furnishing. Overall, I wasn't super impressed with what we ordered and I had high expectations because the reviews were so good and the pictures looked yummy! Perhaps I'd come back to try other things on the menu. read more
I love this place for it's all gluten free menu with fresh vegan options. I also appreciate that they charge extra for meat instead of charging me full price to remove animal products like most restaurants. I thought I had given this place 5 stars before but it's only 4 stars now I'm my book... shrinkflation is in full effect. Prices went up at some point over the past year so I can no longer get a lunch under $15, there is an employee wellness surcharge added to your bill (which I think may now be illegal), they're payment service annoyingly asks for tip when you get your own cutlery/water/napkins and bus your own table, and the portion sizes keep getting smaller. The food still tastes good though and I support the mission of providing real food... so there's that. read more

Hi Casey - thanks for the amazing review! We're glad to hear you…
Order at the counter, choose a seat, and once the food is ready, an employee will bring it to you. Don't forget your utensils before sitting either. Pretty much self service I'd say. I was pretty underwhelmed with my first time here at Kitava. I ordered the power bowl and added paprika chicken. The dressing itself didn't have much impact on the dish and the sweet potatoes overpowered everything. Overall, I wouldn't exactly recommend Kitava. $22 for a bowl that tasted like a sweet potato salad was just not impressive for me. There were also a lot of bugs flying around in the seating by the glass window. read more
